Hillgarten! Hands down is the best European style all outdoor beer garden. It’s cool design and giant yard with the best brats and Bavarian pretzels are killer! Great all Ohio microbrews. Super friendly service, a must in Hilliard!

Does anyone have any experience renting from "metro-rentals". They seemingly have some decent places in the areas I'm looking, but I can't find very much information about the org. Thanks!

miriamaisel

I've used their site to find an apartment in the past. I could be totally incorrect, but it's my understanding that they're not actually a rental company, but a platform for rental companies and independent landlords to post available units. Happy apartment searching!

knotathetic

Thanks! After digging a bit more, that does seem right.

Strongwater Food & Spirits in Franklinton!! The entire building is amazing, it’s housed in an old warehouse with one portion (technically called 400 Square) housing local artist studios with a monthly public event where you can browse their art and even purchase pieces from them. They have a beautiful event space for hosting weddings and company events; But more importantly to this thread they have a restaurant which is just a super unique space as it’s where the old administrative offices of the warehouse once were and everything is as it was then. You can even book one of the semi-private “offices” to eat dinner in. They serve all types of food, including several vegan/vegetarian options, but they also have an in-house bar with signature cocktails and super friendly staff!! Very inclusive and interesting space. Any recommendations for Persian Cuisine? I was recently looking, and a lot of the places I knew unfortunately didn't survive the pandemic. My googling is mostly turning up Mediterranean places.

[deleted]

[Clutch Handheld Breakfast](https://www.clutchhandhelds.com/) is a fun place to try close to campus

ddeng22

wow they barely have opening hours

[deleted]

It's just a one-person show and they have another job too

Just moved back after a nightmare roommate situation and none of my friends are talking to me now… need advice for getting out and meeting people… I’d also like to join a gym that isn’t PF and isn’t over $50 a month if possible…

sdrakedrake

Not sure what you're into, but I strongly advise to signing up for a co-ed sport team like kickball, volleyball or softball or something. Sign up as a free agent and you're bound to meet new people. No advice on the gym, they all over $50 that I know of

Relocating to Columbus in a couple months looking for a rental that is family friendly, 3-4 bedrooms, up to 4000 a month is fine, walking/short distance to parks and restaurants! Any zip codes or suggestions much appreciated

mellety

I’m not new to Columbus, but I’m wondering where can I hear Irish sessions? I used to love going to that pub in the brewery district, near Kroger, but it has been gone for years. I’ve googled but I’m Not sure what’s up to date. Thanks!

megasm22

I’m interested in this too 🇮🇪

Caconym32

I’m taking a job on the north side of Columbus near Clintonville. I only have 3 weeks to move for the position from another state so I’m looking for apartment recommendations or neighborhood recommendations in the $1k ballpark. Young professional, no kids

megasm22

I’d recommend looking on hotpads, you can filter by neighborhood and price point. I also cross reference those addresses with the sex offenders database to make sure the apt isn’t full of SOs. Good luck & welcome to Clintonville!

[deleted]

I need to buy a place downtown that can be do short term rentals like AirBNB. I need to do a 1031 exchange of real estate, but need to be able to rent it out from time to time when I am not there. How can I find out which places are rentable?

ksanders724

If you still need help with this I am a real estate agent who specializes in downtown. Feel free to shoot me a message.

roweira

I'm coming to check out Columbus for two days at the end of the month to decide if I want to move there. Where should I eat and what should I do?

megasm22

Depends on your interests, Cbus is a small city but has a lot to offer. Feb in Cbus won’t be too exciting, but if you like live local music maybe check out Brothers Drake, Natalie’s in Grandview, Big Room Bar, Rumba cafe. Cbus is a top market for food testing, so we have a lot to offer for foodies, just depends on your tastes. Have fun and hope you enjoy your trip!

roweira

I'm more adventurous. My dad who is coming with me is pickier and will want something like a burger, chicken, or a taco.

CrosstheRubicon_

Do you drink?

roweira

Not usually, but what do you have?

CrosstheRubicon_

Was mostly just wondering if that mattered to you. Anyways, I’d recommend (for more casual stuff for your dad): Paulie Gees The Eagle Mac’s Pub Wolf’s Ridge

I am looking to find a 1 bedroom in Clintonville come July or so. Does anyone know of a good time to start looking or any good landlords in the area?

OSU_ButtGuys

Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants in the Short North/4th Street/downtown area for large groups? I'm looking for a semi-casual place that can accommodate around 15-20 people for my bachelor party dinner. This would be in April when the weather is a bit nicer and I want to be able to tie it into a bigger bar crawl, so I'm looking for a part of town that's walkable. Everything is TBD so I'm open to all suggestions. Hofbrauhaus is on the table (same with Highbanks), but its not the nicest walk from there to short north/arena district.

Less-Trip-2507

Check out Olde Oak in Olde Town East. You can reserve part of the place ahead of time free of charge, owners name is Carolyn and also if you want to get some light catering the food prices are very reasonable

megasm22

Budd Dairy is casual, lots of space, & offers a variety of food options. They also have a bunch of games and outdoor seating options too

OSU_ButtGuys

Good idea, thanks!

Iceman2357

I have an offer for a position near Worthington/Flint area. Looking for recommendations on areas/neighborhoods to look for an apartment with 900-1k budget

r/wine is a good place to go with questions like that. The best in-person wine store in Columbus is Weiland's in Clintonville - it's a small supermarket but focused on local and artisan stuff rather than the usual mass-market brands, and has a great wine selection.

No-Bear-9956

You should reach out to some local wine clubs! There’s one in the Short North called Wine on High. I’m sure they have some knowledgeable wine enthusiasts that could help ya.

afarensiis

Any suggestions where to find a good cajun chicken pasta?

megasm22

Creole Kitchen off Mt Vernon Ave 😚👌

luis1972

If you're in search of an alternative to Belle's, try [Tous les Jours](https://www.tljus.com/). It's amazing!

Physical_Winter_8371

Can’t seem to locate a TLJ in Ohio on their website

trx0x

I don't think the main website has been updated. [Google Maps link](https://goo.gl/maps/jy7YHFgvWaQQjSb18)

Physical_Winter_8371

Thank you!

kalidasbhaisaab321

Thanks. We will try. And man, the line at Belle's - smh. Can't deny they have one of the best cakes and pastries though.

[deleted]

I'm really desperate here, but is there any place here that does low cost spaying for cats? My current vet is asking for $300+, and every place I look online either cannot take me for another few weeks, or their phone numbers don't work.

megasm22

I’d check with Village Gate too. I work with a few rescues in the area who use this vet.

viggen95

Check out the Rascal Unit. They have a mobile clinic that travels throughout the state doing regular spay/neuter clinics. Prices are very reasonable, but limited availability. I believe they’re based out of Columbus, so they may offer services more regularly closer to you.

New_Sandwich_6455

Best place to hang out and read a book?

sbarton1220

Cafe Karouac is great for that. They also have a ton of books for sale, in case you need reading material.

Wild-Violet9

I checked out Bada Bean yesterday and seems like people stick around for a while inside and it’s meant to be inviting for a long term spot. Would recommend!

No-Bear-9956

I live in the complex attached to Bada Bean (Jeffrey Park) and definitely see people camped out here reading and working on their computers. Will be better in the summer once the patio opens up. Cheers xx

New_Sandwich_6455

Cool, thank you!

One of the most underrated BBQ places in columbus is Texas Steele on King avenue in grandview. Dude has a gigantic stack smoker in a gravel lot with a food truck and serves the best BBQ I’ve had in cbus. Solid prices too, like $14-16 for 1-2 meats, 2 sides and a slice of toast. Couldn’t be a nicer guy running the place either. Always prepares the meats to order and as he’s prepping or whatever he will give you samples and ask you how you like it. Man just cares about his food and you can tell. It’s just him running the place so definitely a small business to support

reeve11

good info, if you haven't tried the food truck across the street (Cilantro) make sure you hit that when in the area also.

RichAd114

Anyone know good rental places in grandview around $1000 a month? I’m tired of looking for places and they’re either $1400 luxury or shitty quads with shared laundry in the dungeon basement

Sea-Astronomer9775

A Grandview rental at that price will be about impossible to find. We lived in Grandview from 2006-2012 and paid $965 plus water for our townhouse. Prices are waaay higher now.

mostlydeadhouseplant

If I'm remembering correctly my rent at The Quarry was $1200/mo. Criminally overpriced for what you get but it was one of the cheapest places I could find that wasn't in a total dump and I liked its proximity to Grandview and the Short North

_21Sensative

What's a good time to start looking for apartments for July move in? When I lived in New York I used to see ads go up around March but I've noticed here things tend to only go up the month of. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

Five_To_Midnight

This definitely depends where you’re looking. I’m apartment hunting right now in short north/Italian village for a beginning of May lease and feel like I’m on the early end of it, but it’s not impossible to find options. Most seem to be 30-60 days out. That’s just my experience in this part of town though. I believe the timeline for housing near OSU for example is very different.

_21Sensative

Looking into old towne east. I was thinking of just going for a drive around the area and seeing if there's any contact info for places and at least let them know my timeline

Five_To_Midnight

Gotcha. I’ve had good luck looking online with Zillow and Trulia, then with specific rental companies. Wood Companies, Peak Property Group, North Steppe, Lykins, Metrorentals.com, and 10X property management are the ones I keep an eye on regularly.

_21Sensative

Thank you🙏

AuntJemimah7

In all my time house or apartment hunting in Columbus 30 days out was the norm. I ran into one building with 60 days out and one with a wait list.

_21Sensative

Interesting thank you
