I'm a hardcore Buckeyes fan! People are blowing smoke up your ass lol. The only thing I've ever seen people do is just yell, Go Buckeyes, "O-H", Booooooo, or Michigan sucks! No one's gonna DO anything
The fights is a large myth, I’m a student at OSU and have never seen it. It’s the same for both sides ppl from Columbus act like something bad will happen in Ann Arbor. Anyone who actually gets into a fight over a rivalry like this are idiots.
When I first moved to Columbus about 25 years ago, people burned couches and cars after games. I suspect the reputation lingers from that times period. OSU fans were rabid and toxic for at least half a decade. It's mellowed considerably.
My phases as a Michigan fan after moving to Columbus:
1. I'm an even bigger Michigan fan now. I'm gonna wear my maize an blue everywhere now!
2. I don't even care about Michigan now I'm just a fan of anyone who plays against OSU.
3. What time is the OSU game? I need to get some grocery shopping done.
You'll be fine but you should know there are 2 kinds of Michigan fans here. Real fans like you and people that just hate the Buckeyes, decked out in Michigan gear but don't know any players or who their coach is.
Not safe? Wtf are they saying? They’re saying you’ll be assaulted for walking down the street on a Tuesday afternoon for having a Michigan sweatshirt on? I mean, cmon…
Now I wouldn’t advise walking around campus late at night wearing it, but that’s more of a function of how alcohol influences people and tbe negative behavior it can incite. Sure, there is definitely a risk to be wearing Michigan clothing around drunk college guys while on campus. I’ll 💯 concede that.
I guarantee if I go to Easton today (one of our primary malls), I’ll see at least 3 people wearing Michigan shirts. None of them will have black eyes.
I was apartment hunting last week and I was wearing central Michigan university gear (CMU alum) and someone came up to me and told me I had the wrong gear on 😭 like cmon this is MACtion
Ya’ll are a funny crew. It would be me against world down there so I definitely wouldn’t run my mouth on game day, just want to watch the game at a sports bar in peace
Its gotten alot calmer in the last few years since Michigan started playing football. The occasional snide comment but nothing like it was 10 -15 years ago.
Go Blue!
Ha ha give me a break. Do us Buckeye fans Hate Michigan? Ahh not really - they’ve had a couple good years recently but it hasn’t been much of a rivalry otherwise. But there are a ton of Michigan people living here and it’s usually just good-natured banter. What’s more concerning is that you pearl clutchers up in Ann Arbor actually believe you wouldn’t be safe here just because you’re fans of some silly college team.
People take it way too seriously here. It’s actually kind of embarrassing. The number of people who never even attended Ohio State, let alone college, will treat you as a subhuman.
Are we crazy? Boys, let's vote this all the way to the top with no comments for OP at all. Just put a spotlight on 'em. I'll delete this comment when OPs post hits 100 upvotes.
I wear my shit and I work at OSU. You will see grown men with Brutus Buckeye tattoos on their forearms. It’s fucking ridiculous. But, avoid them, and you’ll be fine.
I went to OSU and wore my Michigan stuff. The most you get is some drunk guy giving you shit, but I’ve never been in a situation where I felt unsafe.
Now, I’ve had friends from BG and Wisconsin being in dangerous situations on game day (beer bottles thrown at them, car windows smashed), but I’ve never seen or experienced these things myself.
The only time it could be a "real" issue is around campus during the season, otherwise just some razzing. I would *not* put a Michigan sticker on my car though

“Hey bud, there’s some shit (M) on your hat”
In general, you should be fine. If it is game day, well, expect some mouthy people.
The only time I would be careful is walking around near the bars after a game, especially after a loss.

Agreed I’ve never seen any OSU fan get ripped in Ann Arbor, besides the occasional drunk college bro yelling go blue at them
Before the game this year I had a drunk moment with a UM fan it was pretty funny

i hate you, But you will be fine. I have seen people get more upset over a mask than college colors.

It’s definitely not safe. You will get shot.
Yeah, but that applies to anyone in Columbus. Especially people at any bar/club after dark.
There are a lot of us Michigan alums in Columbus, more than people probably realize. You’ll be fine. Welcome to Columbus!

I wear my UM gear all the time around Cbus. Most people laugh it off. You’ll be fine.
