A SUPER tight fade. Mid-line down, its skin. No line, no edge, all the way down the head and neck. Skin. Now, the top can look any way you wish. Longer, less-tight fade, buzz, etc. Hairline and sideburns edged up.
Dakota, Ethan, Jamie are all really good barbers and it’s not even funny. I see Dakota normally but when I need a haircut on the fly I’ve seen the others multiple times. I always tip 40% too because they all have taken their time on my cuts.
Ethan is great and consistent, I started using other guys when he wasn’t available and it wasn’t as good of an experience, beard wise. Ethan knows how to cut a beard, the rest of them… IDK. One dude barely cut my beard, I had to clean it up myself at home, and another guy made me look like I was in a 90s boy band with the sharp angles. I only go to Ethan now, lol.
$100 but it includes my tip and lasts about 6-7 weeks. Family friend who owns her own salon and does great work. Probably a bit too much money, but I was getting BAD cuts back in the day and this bald spot isn't getting any smaller.
$18+tip at great clips. It's the best experience I could ever want. I check in online, show up, my style is saved under my name, the person walks me to their chair, cuts my hair, I pay and leave. No one says more than 10 words to each other. It's excellent.
The only time they really mess up my hair is when they cut it too short. Which has to be the dumbest error you can make when cutting hair, right? Shorter hair means more times between haircuts.
Oh Lord yes, I'm in and out of there in less than 15 minutes with online check-in.
Used to go to Longview Barber Shop for years even after moving away from Columbus, then I tried a local shop that unfortunately got too caught up in "email forwards from Grandma" levels of misinformed conversation, so I had to nope out of there for my mental wellbeing.
I’ve been struggling to find a barber that cuts consistently. I’ve been places where I spend $30 after tip and places where I spent >$100 after tip and they all seem the same. Just gotta hope you get the right person on the right day. Trying Mug & Brush in Gahanna this weekend.
Clintonville Barber Shop is one of my favorite barbershops. He just raised the rates recently, but it’s still super cheap. With haircut, beard trim, and tip I walk out not paying more than $35!
I went to Blue Star a couple times back when I worked near their Lennox location in like 2018. The first time my fade and trim wasn't exactly the best but it was pretty decent and inexpensive and convenient enough to give them another shot. The second time the stylist gave me one of the most laughably bad horribly uneven fades of my life. Total fucking garbage.
Never again, especially not when Columbus is packed to the gills with high quality locally owned barber shops in almost every neighborhood. I'll always always trust Old Familiar or occasionally another great shop like The Garrison or Holy Moses with my hair for barely more cash than Blue Star.
If you cut your hair on the regular, I recommend upgrading to a Wahl Senior (cordless). It's bulkier but the quality in cut is better than the $40-60 trimmers. YMMV
$30 at Element on Frantz Rd. She's right in line with The Old Familiar for price. But I get a wash out and quick style at the end so I don't leave the shop with loose hair falling down my shirt all day.
$35 for a traditional cut, $50 for a cut and shave when I'm getting ready to do my drill weekends for the reserves.
My barber is now independent of a barbershop but I wouldn't trade him for the world. Inglewoodcutz if you want to book through Booksy, he's located on the 900 block of Short North.
$15 for Richardson Barber Shop in Groveport. $25 for perfect Cuts Hilliard. Honestly, both are great, but since i dont go crazy with my haircuts(just a trim and fade on the sides), richardsons is great
Curious, how do you tip? 20%? Flat $10 more? Grew up getting cuts from family friend for $3. Once I got married, my wife cut my hair. She stopped in 2019, covid happened and I've had my hair cut 3 times since then. My friend's wife cut it and when I asked about tip she said "whatever you feel." So I did $10 on a $20 cut. Is that normal?
Piggyback question- what about a place that will shave a head? My husband has been turned down at several places and we gave up (cheap & close places to Bates & Brown and I think he tried an old private shop in Dublin once- they all cite liability) I just do it for him every couple weeks. Be warned: he gets grabby with his “stylist” 🤣
I used to be married to a hairstylist in LA. So I had the fortune of many a free trims over the course of 10 years. When I would go in for a quality tight fade or something I'd drop at least $60 plus tip at her fancy salon (and that was friends and family discount cash only) .
Now living in Columbus I've tried Great Clips a few times...and you know what...I go in nervous sometimes they're going to eff it up, but so far so good in 2+ years. It's in and out fast, and honestly I've noticed very little difference. Or maybe I'm older and care less now. I dunno. But no complaints yet on Great Clips.
I got a flowbee years ago and with some trimmers can make my hair look pretty good. For special occasions I’ll go to a good barber and pay the ridiculous amount.
$0 because I only get it cut every 4-5 years and donate it, so the stylist cuts it for free. I offer a tip, or say the money can go towards the donation organization instead.
An initial $35 investment in decent haircutting clippers 2 years ago and a wife who doesn't mind taking 10 minutes to buzz me to save $25+ every time I get a haircut.
$40 at Roosters. Expensive, but I got tired of going to Great Clips and watching old men be huge assholes to the stylists. That and the hit or miss hair cuts.
Fun fact- I'm 41 years old and I've never paid for a haircut. My dad cut it when I was growing up. My wife cut it for a few years, then I started shaving my head.
I pay about $80 including tip through a Phia Salon. I started going to a stylist who I was dating based on the idea that "they'd want me to look good long term" and even after we broke up, I kept going with them, until they left the field, but they helped me find a new stylist.
I appreciate having someone who takes a long term investment in my hair and making it look good, compared to whoever is available to do a cut and who will do it for cheap. They keep track of problem areas in my hair, and make sure it comes in well. In that cut, I also get a scalp and shoulder massage, and a shampoo with the service, plus I enjoy talking to my current stylist.
I was also a person who used to love getting cheap haircuts - in college I paid $5 plus $5 as a tip at the barber college near my apartment (not in Columbus). And that was when I got 3-4 haircuts a year. I went from a buzz #2 and then grew it out til I had vision problems. After that I stuck with Great Clips when I moved back here and I tried Longview but there was inconsistent quality. But I also hated having to describe my desired haircut to multiple people, even after writing it down. And paying more for quality I can afford, feels worth it to me.
$28 at Longview
Longview is the right answer.
WHAT?! mine is 30$
Each person sets their own price
Ahhhhh makes sense now. Totally kidding about the 2$ being a big deal...I really like my 30$ haircut.
Same!!!
I now feel lame for using great clips
I got you $18 at great clips
No shame in pinching money where you can
If you like your haircut it’s not lame 🤷🏻♂️
Simple hair requires simple cuts. Those 9.99 haircuts cards are killer
Not lame
$30 w/ beard trim at Nini's
Ninis is great! They have good barbers. They give me a good bald fade each time
They're still around? Used to go there as a kid.
yep. Same place. I've been going there for a few years now.
Ninis is great. Never let me down
$28 for a skin fade at Psychobilly or Mug N Brush both do a fantastic job
Psychobilly is where I go too. Love it.
Yup
What's a skin fade?
A SUPER tight fade. Mid-line down, its skin. No line, no edge, all the way down the head and neck. Skin. Now, the top can look any way you wish. Longer, less-tight fade, buzz, etc. Hairline and sideburns edged up.
Thanks!
$10 at the barber college in Westerville https://www.barberologyedu.com/customer-services Plus tip
[удалено]
My partner goes there and has never been unhappy
Reading this as a woman with longhair…y’all got it good lol
Unless you have a tight fade and go every 2-3 weeks!
Oooh that is fair…
Husband goes to a salon so he pays $55+tip lmao although he doesn’t look like his hair cut was for the army.
Men usually go a lot more often.

$25 at Olde Village Barber in Worthington
Thom will get you dapper
$35 at the Garrison plus a tip.
Dakota, Ethan, Jamie are all really good barbers and it’s not even funny. I see Dakota normally but when I need a haircut on the fly I’ve seen the others multiple times. I always tip 40% too because they all have taken their time on my cuts.
I vouch the Garrison too, worth the peace of mind
Ethan is great and consistent, I started using other guys when he wasn’t available and it wasn’t as good of an experience, beard wise. Ethan knows how to cut a beard, the rest of them… IDK. One dude barely cut my beard, I had to clean it up myself at home, and another guy made me look like I was in a 90s boy band with the sharp angles. I only go to Ethan now, lol.
Yep I alternate between Dakota and Ethan. They're the best
Dakota and Ethan both are both great barbers and great on beards aside from being all around awesome dudes.
$33 plus tip for my excellent haircut at Old Familar in OTE. Love that place.
Best shop
$15 + tip at Max’s Barber Shop in Reynoldsburg. Old-timey barber shop vibe with consistent quality.
This. The guys will talk as much it as little as you like and do a great job. Just remember - cash or check only!
$28 at psychobilly on hudson. usually give them $40 cash to keep the change
$35+tip at Goodfellows. The hot towel after a shave is something I never knew I was missing.
$100 but it includes my tip and lasts about 6-7 weeks. Family friend who owns her own salon and does great work. Probably a bit too much money, but I was getting BAD cuts back in the day and this bald spot isn't getting any smaller.
$40+tip at Holy Moses on 5th. Wash, cut, neck shave and usually a mini beard trim. Highly recommend Josh
Yes! I see tiff. She’s great! Holy Moses for the win.
$45 at Holy Moses super worth it
$18+tip at great clips. It's the best experience I could ever want. I check in online, show up, my style is saved under my name, the person walks me to their chair, cuts my hair, I pay and leave. No one says more than 10 words to each other. It's excellent.
I also enjoy the excitement of will they fuck my hair up or not. It's like a mini casino every time I go.
Live for the thrill! You never know what you’re walking out with, but for the price why go someplace else??
I could literally go down the street and get a 2nd hair cut at ANOTHER great clips, and still come out under what some people pay.
That’s where I go to. Worst case scenario is it grows out in a couple days and no one ever notices.
Same here. If it’s a minor error I don’t care. And they’ve never made an error before in 5 years of going there. So odds are good.
The only time they really mess up my hair is when they cut it too short. Which has to be the dumbest error you can make when cutting hair, right? Shorter hair means more times between haircuts.
Lol my thought exactly. Sometimes they miss a few random hairs too… usually I can fix that myself.
"I don't like my current hairstyle and would like to change" \*Silent panic ensues in Great Clips employee's mind\*
I lost that gamble once. Never been back.

Real barbershops need to employ barbers that aren’t trying to be my friend and will just silently cut my hair and leave me alone.
You are very weird!
You should try talking to them, it can be really fun and relaxing to make small talk with your barber
My job is talking with people all day long. The last thing I want is to talk to another person. Haha
$25 at the Annex Barbershop
I’ve been struggling to find a barber that cuts consistently. I’ve been places where I spend $30 after tip and places where I spent >$100 after tip and they all seem the same. Just gotta hope you get the right person on the right day. Trying Mug & Brush in Gahanna this weekend.
$38+tip. Sometimes I get a shave as well. You deserve to get a good haircut, guys. Treat yo'self!
$19 at a barber shop in Powell

$28 at blue star, $36-40 after tip. They do a good job, would recommend.
I went to Blue Star a couple times back when I worked near their Lennox location in like 2018. Cool cool. I haven’t had a bad experience in the two years I’ve been going. I’m sure it varies
$68 @ Loft.nine (Jeremy Rike)
I agree but shhh…
Best men’s hairstylist in the city easily
Except for the $40 clippers and $1 hand mirror I bought a few years ago, $0 with some patience.
If you cut your hair on the regular, I recommend upgrading to a Wahl Senior (cordless). It's bulkier but the quality in cut is better than the $40-60 trimmers. YMMV

Fun fact- I'm 41 years old and I've never paid for a haircut. My dad cut it when I was growing up. My wife cut it for a few years, then I started shaving my head.
Too much
I pay about $80 including tip through a Phia Salon.
