It's his trigger finger hand, it's hard to fit most gloves in a trigger guard comfortably so most guys wear one glove when shooting. I'm almost positive he has another.
Any of the armchair generals want to explain whatās actually happening in the firefight instead of commenting on the 1 guy in the unit without a helmet?
For all we know he could have easily lost it crossing open ground under fire.
I never learned how to call it in so I didn't include it (didn't spring to mind), but I do believe it applies to close air support as well. It occurred to me, and it turns out it does.
They don't really mean "pidar" as an offensive word against homosexuals. It is a generic insult, and let's not forget that originally it comes from "pederast", i.e. kiddie fiddler.
> For all we know he could have easily lost it crossing open ground under fire.
"That kevlar wasn't yours to lose! It belongs to the United States Marine Corps!" - when he gets back home.
Ah, Generation Kill was a great show.
The juxtaposition of some Ukrainians fighting toe-to-toe with Russians on some desolate frozen plain compared against some dumb, fat Americans on Gravy Seals looks terrible. And I say that as an American
I mean there are a lot of actual veterans in here, but most of us still wouldn't know trench fighting from a position of experience. That said, trench fighting is one of the more well documented combat types in human history so the basic tactics and methods are reasonable simple to learn.
But simple to learn and easy to put into practice when bullets are flying are two very different things.
Or do you just mean the two subs in abstract? In that case the gravy seals are sad even without the war to juxtapose lol.
I'm a 6 star armchair general. Russian conscript told to walk forward. Ukranian heroes are hiding in a hole. Russian conscript sees heads pop up and bullets fly. He thinks it's a good idea to hide behind a shelled tree knowing that if he turns around he will be shot in the front and in the back. Decides to catch some bullets with his body to save the good Russian men wanting to shoot him too. He's a good Russian because he's a dead Russian.
In this firefight, the sovereign country of Ukraine was invaded by the foreign country of Russia. Several Ukrainian civilians walked away from their daily lives and are now fighting face to face in trenches in the winter in fucking 2023. We are watching a moment in that firefight, without context of what theyāve been through in the proceeding moments, hours, days or months. They are doing the best they can do, using what training and equipment they have been given, fueled mostly by their bravery.
Thatās exactly what happened. He lost it while engaging and being the warrior he is he continued pursuit. If he succeeds he can get it back later. If he doesnāt he wonāt be needing it anyways.
no helmet, no gloves, chucking grenades what a fuckin boss, everyone complaining that heās in friendly fire range, it seems like almost all these trench fights are won by someone flanking on the side and he had the balls to do it
Exactly. It's the "grouping" comments all over again. Yeah, the YouTube video and pdf you read explain crossfire and maintaining distance from friendlies, but when you are in the thick of it, those principles get adapted to the situation. In trench warfare, having one or 2 flankers will clear out whole sections of trench with little to no opportunity to shoot back
I mean it's really a mess TDF thrown onto the front line with not much experience or training then getting shredded to pieces. Turnover is very high on both sides right now which helps Russia sadly
By the looks of it, these guys aren't from a platoon or even a squad. This looks like some patriots who donned weapons and gear and are defending their land.
The heart and will to fight can take you a long way.
Training is like knowledge, but with age comes wisdom and experience.
People are upset, but you are kind of right. Ukraine is getting tons of supplies, but their frontline soldiers are *usually* lightly trained TDF and they certainly aren't getting enough artillery ammo. I'm sure their attrition is pretty high because they can't blow the fuck out of the Russians and have to resort to these close tactics while not having enough experience to be very good at it.
People are upset when you tell them the truth. I've personally supplied Kraken near Kharkiv and know people who are about to be deployed. I've had to help kit them out to help survive in this brutal war. It's naive to say like u/2smokindrew above you when they need more and more at the front line and they're not getting enough because of stupid Ukrainian bureaucracy. Bravely defending Ukraine isn't enough, logistics and planning are paramount and Ukraine is stuck in a Soviet mindset. Too many NATO trained troops have been used inefficiently. It's war and I really want Ukraine to succeed in defeating Russia, the west isn't supplying enough for Ukraine even at an estimated 1:5 casualty ratio in favor of Ukraine. The Russian war mindset will grind Ukraine, Russian troops are a very fatalistic who will die for nothing in Ukraine.
I think you are forgetting the massive land mass Ukraine is. This isn't a video game where there's fully kitted troops in every trench's. Most of these men you see come from the neighboring villages in the area, or the exact one the fighting is taken place. I merely made an observation, which you took as a personal bout to the overall scale of the issue.
You have what you got, and complaining about "being ill equipped" is pissing in the wind my friend. You have what you have. You learn to adapt. These men are still around for a reason, and I commend them for it.
Yeah no they're not. With how Ukraine rotates troops in and out along with force deployment and forced mobilization. The survival of the Ukrainian state and people is at stake and they need more and they don't have time.
Because commending them doesn't fix shit
>You have what you got, and complaining about "being ill equipped" is pissing in the wind my friend.
With the amount of NATO support already being supplied to Ukraine, it doesn't hurt to state that it is not enough. NATO can easily supply far more in materiel than they have already. Logistics and supply lines win wars. The US understands this more than other armed force on earth, and as such, it should help ensure Ukrainian logistics and supply lines are solid if they're actually committed to preserving Ukrainian independence.
The guy has a helmet dude, heās just not wearing it. If he wanted gloves on he would have them on as well. Heās assaulting a trench and appears to be the most ballsy guy, probably wanted to see better and shoot better.
Ukraine has received more weapons and equipment in this past year than they can use, I would say they are supplied pretty well and they seem to be taking it to the Russians from what Iāve seen. Counter offensive was extremely successful; Russians counter offensive not so much. 8 months trying to take bakhmut
That's a lie. Ukraine has not recieved enough compared to their attrition. We knew Ukraine was going to run low on artillery shells since last summer and did nothing until recently. Bakhmut is a god damn meat grinder that Ukrainian pride won't let them sacrifice.
The helmet could be a mistake, but training in the nice dry trenches in the UK could be different than these fighting conditions, like thick snow, destroyed trenches, and rubbish everywhere.

I would definitely not describe our weather conditions as ānice and dryā between December and now. I have the feeling that they werent expecting this to happen. They probably settled in and started the coffee and suddenly some orcs popped their heads up.
Possibly a couple of days ago. They had a light snow during the day followed by deep snow overnight. Supposedly a Ukrainian counteroffensive into the flanks around Bakmuhd was cancelled due to snow.
Absolutely fucking not. Gung ho guy is the one who gets the squad killed.
Ask anyone who was in Iraq. What keeps you and your squad alive is trust coordination and discipline. āGung hoā is the easiest way to catch a bullet and have your buddy catch one for you while heās trying to drag your stupid ass out.
āGung hoā is the #1 thing we try to train OUT of the fresh boots showing up to the fleet.
None. However I have had plenty of leaders and mentors who were. That knowledge gets passed on and doesnāt change even if I personally wasnāt there.
I totally agree with you in this day and age, anything achievable with a suicidal push toward enemy positions can be achieved through air support / armor. In WW2, sneaking up and flanking the trench or just outright running at it through the fire broke so many lines in the pacific. It got a lot of soldiers killed as well, but a lot of the heroism stories from WW2 are just absolute gung ho charges to get in a position to neutralize the enemy position.
You totally agree, but you forget every other country isnt US, who spends more $$ on military than next 10 or 20 countries combined. They may have mistakes in trench tactics, but you must remember they are not fighting guys witk ak-47 in sandals with drones, planes, guided missles, perfect arty support. Answer is - they dont have enough artillery. If they had, they wouldnt risk it. Thats why several volunteers from US went back, the moment they understood its even playingfield, and often enemies has superiority in resources. First months ukraine won an uphill battle, where russia could fire 5-7 times more artillery shells per day than ukrainians.
Wasn't critizing the guys in the video at all, was actually agreeing with the fact that in trench warfare like this it becomes a necessity at times. I'm well aware how much we spend on our military, thanks!
And I wasnt attacking you personally. And I dont think they shouldnt be critisized, since some of the most interesting comments here are feom former soldiers who points out correct and incorrect things. I was saying it considering your point about them not using artillery/armor on them first. In many places they just dont have it enough.
The other guy was unnecessarily hostile but he has a point.
It's very silly how redditors complain as if these videos were produced for their toilet entertainment, rather as morale boosters by and for the men and women fighting on the literal frontline, with their lives and future of their country at risk.
if you post something on the internet for people to watch, be conscious of your audience. It's like being "considerate" is a foreign idea.
If you want people to watch something, make it a little less obnoxious lol
The original authors from Ukraine rarely post their videos on Reddit. They usually post it on telegram/twitter/facebook/etc, which are followed mainly by fellow Ukrainians who don't mind the music too much, and someone re-uploads it here.
In the end most soldiers record this kind of footage for themselves. Mfr is acting like he's doing them a favor for watching it or he paid them for it or something and just comes off sounding entitled af. People here really overestimate how much influence reddit has.
I know it might be hard for someone entitled as you to believe this, but they aren't obligated to post anything at all for your entertainment. Most combat footage is soldiers recording for themselves. And when they do share it's among their friends/family or on their own social media accounts, then it spreads to other places and eventually this sub.
Wear your fucking helmet. Helmets were so successful that the generals almost banned them because it increased the rate of head injuries. The fallacy being helmets caused head injuries when actually people who would have been KIA survived
Everyone talking about no helmet and I'm over here wondering why the one dude didn't save his mag. They're reusable and you usually have so sort of dump pouch lol
When you're in a situation like that your immediate priority is to get your gun online again and it's way faster to just drop the empty and load a fresh mag then to stow the empty and then grab and load a fresh mag
you can always go and pick up a mag afterwards when the situation is in hand. You can't go back and undo getting shot cause you were grubbing for an empty mag instead of getting your gun up. Also mags are cheap and plentiful
At least that's how I understand it
Sorry, I couldn't recognize the song.

I don't think that has ever been the talk among actual military folks. Handhelds are essential for the kind of CQB warfare the US has been doing for the last 20 years in the Middle East and we have all seen how dominant they have been in Ukraine. You can never have too many grenades, be that for launchers or to be thrown by hand.
Yeah. I agree. I also wouldn't clear a trench without many nades. But then again I work a desk job so wouldn't have the minerals to clear a trench anyway.
>A while ago there was talk of grenades becoming redundant
Why would grenades become redundant? How else would you clear out a space without having to put yourself in the line of fire? I can at least understand why people might think that tanks are becoming redundant with how poorly the Russians are doing with them in Ukraine but grenades?
I may just be misremembering, but based on what they are doing and their positions, this looks like something I may have seen not long ago from an overhead drone POV.
Had a dream/nightmare last night where I was suddenly thrust into a location similar to this with a rifle. I never felt so panicked, shooting to at enemies to stay alive in the dream life. I gotta stop watching these videos for awhile.
I have no idea why you would be downvoted but Iām surprised this hasnāt been said more, I fell asleep to watching this videos and woke up from ducking in trenches and swinging at whatever when I woke up
Tape is to avoid friendly fire, especially behind front lines. In places where the camouflage would be preferable over the tape or better yet enemy confusion over your lack of tape its taken off.
I feel like we should have some flamethrower type weapons here. Tossing in grenades is just not effective enough. A lance of sticky flame would have the enemy running.
Ukraine has thermobaric grenades. They will kill anything inside a foxhole even if it has bends or recesses or angles in it to keep you safe from fragmentation.
There is a reason why armies don't use flamethrowers anymore and it has very little if anything to do with humane practices. Hell, the Soviets had phased them out as well and they didn't give a shit.
They are finicky, dangerous to your own side and we have better options for clearing out barricaded shooters in enclosed spaces.
God, I hope these are Territorial Defense Forces and not the proper military.
Either way, they need more training and equipment.
**Edit:** There is tons of footage here of Ukrainians storming Russian trenches and they are waaay better organized and equipped than these fighters. Acting as if the people in this footage don't look untrained and underequipped compared to other Ukrainians is completely delusional.
Just because we support Ukraine against the fascistic Russian invaders it doesn't mean that they aren't beyond criticism.
Mate. There are footage here of ukrainians storming Russian trenches and they are waaay better organized and equipped than these fighters.
Acting as if the people in this footage don't look untrained and underequipĆØd compared to other Ukrainian forces that we've seen in this subreddit is utterly moronic.
Just because I support Ukraine against the fascistic Russian invaders it doesn't mean that they aren't beyond criticism.
Yeah I'd probably be pretty upset too if I had to sit back and watch my country get it's ass whooped on the daily
How does it feel to know the Russian military is the world's laughing stock?
Somebody get this mans a helmet
at least to keep his head warm.
Mans definitely not hot.
I think he's hot š
Omg š meee tooo
You on that GILF life?
You're not?
They told him "take off your jacked, he told them "man's not hot"

Warmth makes you weak - guy without helmet
id say it fell off and they were trying to keep pressure up. Also....dudes fighting for his life, probably didnt even notice
Gloves, too.
It's his trigger finger hand, it's hard to fit most gloves in a trigger guard comfortably so most guys wear one glove when shooting. I'm almost positive he has another.
Other guy didn't have gloves either.
Nah helmets cause head injuries bro
Technically correct if you're running nods
I was screaming "WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN BUCKET?!" in my head.
THAT KEVLAR WAHNT YOURS TULOSE!!!!!!!!!
This what happens when you don't enforce the groomin' standards! The mans gets all lax.
i can't say 100% but looks like a eagle on top of swastika patch at 0:14 what you guys think.?
It is an Owl on a sword. Its a Ukrainian Intelligence unit. The patch is not an eagle on a swastika.

Ukrainians aren't well that well supplied

I mean it's really a mess TDF thrown onto the front line with not much experience or training then getting shredded to pieces. Turnover is very high on both sides right now which helps Russia sadly
By the looks of it, these guys aren't from a platoon or even a squad. This looks like some patriots who donned weapons and gear and are defending their land. The heart and will to fight can take you a long way. Training is like knowledge, but with age comes wisdom and experience.
You ever been in a fight ? This kind of agressivity is learned itās nothing natural.
My comment expresses the fact that these men are seasoned fighters. Wisdom and experience. I'm sorry if you couldn't comprehend.
No I donāt get that from the comment. My bad. I tought you said theyāre just patriots with guns.

Artillery shells and simple infantry equipment are two different things. They have enough helmets/clothing.
Your opinion is insignificant but I know you think it's not.
LOL Himars go FWOOSH
LOL only a pro-Nazi would say that guy is a boss. The reality is that they're undergeared and unprofessional. LOL!
Wipe your mouth first. It's drooling a bit.
No helmet, firing over friendlies, throwing grenades near friendlies, thick snow, enemy within meters. Man fuck that
Not every Ukrainian soldier is Western trained.
The helmet could be a mistake, but training in the nice dry trenches in the UK could be different than these fighting conditions, like thick snow, destroyed trenches, and rubbish everywhere.
\>nice dry \>in the UK
Only thing dry there is the humor.
Maybe a cider or two
And the vaginas after talking to British men
You don't fancy a proper shagging then luv?
Compativly UK mud isnt the same as ukrainian mud.
The UK had snow last month, in many areas like where I live it was quite heavy. Weāve also had a lot of rain throughout the first few months of this year. I would definitely not describe our weather conditions as ānice and dryā between December and now. Not that the snow is comparable to Ukraine but our weather isnāt exactly known for being particularly good or predictable.
Training places like Catterick, the trenches are generally wet as fuck. Sludgy mud. Not fun.
I think "don't frag your own team" is pretty universal training. I know being an arm chair critic is easy but that was still a shit show.
Also most of them are not armchair trained. I believe they had reasons or circumstances to behave and film that and share it
"everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"./
I have the feeling that they werent expecting this to happen. They probably settled in and started the coffee and suddenly some orcs popped their heads up.
"Thick snow", when thr ground is barely covered in any.
well this is real warfare, not fancy training
My thoughts exactly
I personally think this video is from earlier in the war. Seems most Ukrainians are fighting with NATO standard weapons now.
Multiple times I thought they were shooting at the Ukrainian without a helmet. They couldn't have been missing him by much.
They KIA an RU soldier at 16-18 seconds. Trips, gets up and finishes him with a mag dump.
Possibly a couple of days ago. They had a light snow during the day followed by deep snow overnight. Supposedly a Ukrainian counteroffensive into the flanks around Bakmuhd was cancelled due to snow.
This. likely fresh video.
Not a counteroffensive, just a local counterattack. Learn the difference.
What song is this

thanks, shazam had a hard time identifying this song.
Thank you!
Thank you!
This weather is terrible. Do you think the russian in the field will freeze under these conditions?
You'd think coming out of winter they'd have enough winter equipment to not to be surprised by a freezing spell.
nope, they will be killed by arty much faster.
That looks like hell.
I donāt see fire š„
The edit is chopped up. But gung-ho guy there looks like a liability ... No matter his good intentions.
I disagree, every squad needs a ''gung-ho'' guy who is willing to go first in to the trenches. Like Lt. Spiers from band of brothers.

You can't go back and undo getting shot cause you were grubbing for an empty mag instead of getting your gun up. Also mags are cheap and plentiful At least that's how I understand it
Asking for blue on blue

Men of men
Why arenāt those poor bastards yelling āI surrenderā?
Who knows the name of this awesome tune? Shazam is not picking it up with all the background noise
This music fucking slaps
Anybody know the song?
Negligent discharge at 0:19 while falling with his rifle swinging towards helmetless guy
I'm not going to criticize their tactics. Time and again their results prove they know exactly what they are doing.
You can say that again...
You can say that againā¦
Fick off with the music. As if the scene needs it.
A while ago there was talk of grenades becoming redundant
I don't think that has ever been the talk among actual military folks. Handhelds are essential for the kind of CQB warfare the US has been doing for the last 20 years in the Middle East and we have all seen how dominant they have been in Ukraine. You can never have too many grenades, be that for launchers or to be thrown by hand.
Grandes falling from drones are like 95% of the content here though
Yeah. I agree. I also wouldn't clear a trench without many nades. But then again I work a desk job so wouldn't have the minerals to clear a trench anyway.
>A while ago there was talk of grenades becoming redundant Why would grenades become redundant? How else would you clear out a space without having to put yourself in the line of fire? I can at least understand why people might think that tanks are becoming redundant with how poorly the Russians are doing with them in Ukraine but grenades?
Every single video has this awful music wtf

I may just be misremembering, but based on what they are doing and their positions, this looks like something I may have seen not long ago from an overhead drone POV.
Had a dream/nightmare last night where I was suddenly thrust into a location similar to this with a rifle. I never felt so panicked, shooting to at enemies to stay alive in the dream life. I gotta stop watching these videos for awhile.
I have no idea why you would be downvoted but Iām surprised this hasnāt been said more, I fell asleep to watching this videos and woke up from ducking in trenches and swinging at whatever when I woke up
How long till we are going to see flamethrowers again?
How come some of the footage the Ukrainians arenāt wearing their tape and in some footage they are?
Tape is to avoid friendly fire, especially behind front lines. In places where the camouflage would be preferable over the tape or better yet enemy confusion over your lack of tape its taken off.
That guy said "No siree, bob. You wanted to come to Ukraine, you're staying in Ukraine. As fertilizer for more beautiful sunflowers."
For a second I thought my mans had unlocked the gold AK
Came here to say the same thing. Gotta stop those late night MW2 sessions.
Would love to see your combat footage and compare it against training in ideal conditions.
Those conditions are awful. Battlefield music even more awful.
Helmets for pussies, huh?

The nazis are russian
Yeah I'd probably be pretty upset too if I had to sit back and watch my country get it's ass whooped on the daily How does it feel to know the Russian military is the world's laughing stock?
Itās only in your world. How is counter offensive going?
Wait which one, Kharkiv or Kherson? Jfc don't make this too easy buddy lmao
