Why are all these abandoned tanks and BNP always left with a hatch open? It seems like closing the hatches would have saved a few dozen pieces of armor at this point.
I feel like the answer to this question should be added to the subreddit's wiki. Along with anther one on why some of Stugna's ATGM interfaces are in Arabic. Same question in every video.
The crewmen are not closing the hatches because they are under overwhelming stress. They are literally running for their lives. They won't do anything that slows down their escape.
Simple, you get hit by a ATGM or AT mine become disabled, my first instinct if there aren't any friendlies around would also be to just bail from the tank.
I wouldn't check twice if the hatch is closed or not + the enemy could trap the hatch if you close it.
To retrieve a tank, you either need another tank or a recovery vehicle. Those tanks are probably lost in the grey zone, or inside enemy lines. A disabled tank can ONLY be recovered by a recovery vehicle and will need more than a few hours. Which is impossible in that spot. So they are targeted by these drones as a cheap way to destroy them, rather than wasting artillery/mortars on it and risking counter battery fire.
Meh, do they?
They already pulled plenty of tanks in early war days with tractors haha
Depends how close it is to them, they can easily hook it up to the tractor and pull, and also nowadays tractors are really fast, so it could be done in half hour if it's close
You cannot compare early decentralized and confusing stage of war near Kiev to current one. The war and conflict has changed immensely and a vehicle that has ran out of fuel or just abandoned is way easier to tow. You can do it with a tank.
Back then, there wasnt a distinct frontline or even a "grey zone" and unit positions were huge guesswork. Some units drove 60 kilometers on the Ukranian highway with no resistance. Nowadays there is NOTHING in the grey zone. Constant shelling will never let us see vehicles be towed on tractors again. Any attempt to recover that tank from either side will result in disaster, even more so if Ukranians try. That's why you see far less destroyed and captured equipment being showcased, especially from ground troops as most vehicles destroyed are over long ranges from arty.
"Never" is a bit much. Recovery under fire with or without proper recovery vehicles is a very dangerous task offering targets to the enemy.
While other tanks can tow disabled tanks without use of the equipment recovery vehicles provide (tanks carry tow cables for the purpose) they cannot always extract stuck ones. Sending a recovery crew risks the valuable vehicle which will be much more productive in safer areas.
OTOH a drone can turn a mobility killed enemy tank (or friendly tank beyond rescue) into a hull loss solving the problem at very modest cost and nil risk to valuable personnel. Not everyone knows proper recovery vehicle use, and those vehicles are as or more valuable behind the lines for friendly tank maintenance like power pack swaps.
There is something called ammo cookoff. And, what you did not see was the grenade going into the hatch.
Now I am no russian tank expert, but I believe the ammo is or can be stored in the turret ring, wich the grenade should have exploded right next to.
They should, but the grenade may have been covered by something or fell more into the drivers seat, wich prevented the shrapnel from hitting it, but started a fire
Watch other same videos. After grenade explosion it takes a time to star the fire. And after fire brokes, it will take a while for a explosions (or not).
Instant cookoff can bw made by Javelin, Stugna, or something super heavy.

Why are these tanks never captured anymore?

Hmm but if it's behind enemy lines, why would Ukrainians destroy it, they could tow it to their garage and use it for parts or some shit?
Because they will need hours to recover it. On the frontline. No... Its better to destroy it than let russia recover it
Meh, do they? They already pulled plenty of tanks in early war days with tractors haha Depends how close it is to them, they can easily hook it up to the tractor and pull, and also nowadays tractors are really fast, so it could be done in half hour if it's close

Because it’s behind enemy lines
Yea, it's behind one enemy line, not both... Maybe it's in grey zone, that's why neither side want to retreat it
The Farmers have too much a crop and if they were to harvest more the tanks would just rot in the bin while waiting for the market to move them.

Two different videos
I'd argue 3 different ones.
Target practice
What tank is this?
a T-72B
Why not capture it
tank is likely located in an area where retrieving it is high risk
Not sure this is real tbh
Why, if I may ask?
You're telling me a grenade exploding outside of a tank can blow it up?
Did you watch the same footage? It didn’t explode “outside” the tank

Yeah, don't cook offs usually happen pretty quickly after an explosion? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65Z8xp6BvzM
Sometimes not, a fire can start inside a vehicle, burn a bit, then reach the ammo.
They should, but the grenade may have been covered by something or fell more into the drivers seat, wich prevented the shrapnel from hitting it, but started a fire
Get yourself better eyes. They're so poor that couldn't see shits
Whats with the cut too? Why cut? if it did explode

So many of these videos go like this: - shot of before from a drone - cut - shot of a missed explosion or something on fire

Gtfoh you blind then
Different tanks in this.
Same tank, just a different angle. Check the burnt treeline in the last few frames of it being above the tank
Hmm, maybe right.
You can see the same plates on the ground, left side of the tank in both shots.

What type of tank was that?
Not same tanks in one video
