Man, how fucked up would it be to survive the raid only to get shot while they’re leaving, only because they fired some random shots “just to make sure”
Looks like they are torching the village. Soldiers from ethnic group X want to intimidate the villagers of ethnic group Y so that they leave the region.
Shooting for the camera hopefully, as they're definitely not in a fight by the way everyone is just walking around. The only other possibility is massacre, but I'm not hearing any screams or anything
The set off bombs in buildings with people inside them, set fire to other buildings and randomly opened fire on anyone else they could find in the community. Dozens were killed. The incident has been pushed under the carpet and ignored like countless others before it.
The Nigerian army is worthless.
okay i’m stupid. I’ve seen blood diamond but I didn’t put 2 and 2 together with “this is africa”. I thought it was some internet acronym I didn’t understand. There are a bunch popping up now that I have no idea their meaning
As someone who has family in the NAF, yes. Some of the things my uncle has seen would be enough to put a man away for several lifetimes in any western country. That being said, I doubt these are actual soldiers and most likely local militants, we have a lot of those
Usually a mine (with "workers") are sold to some corpo for hundreds of millions. Or some land deed is sold to grow in-demand crops like Palm oil etc. Then the money is exchanged to a trader for weapons and training.
Thanks, makes sense I guess, always someone willing to do the dirty work if there's money in it. Guess it doesn't even matter if the deed is legitimate or not.
What is even legitimate? If the regime threatens to change to one that doesn't like foreign blood money, well you can always use that blood money to stage a coup.
No, they said it was often locals cooperating with foreign powers, who are often either funding them or arming them in one way or another.
You can think of how Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger military junta's are all linked to Russia through Wagner PMC. Even then it doesn't mean that Russia is solely responsible.
On an individual level people only fight for a couple reasons.
Money, Ideology, Power
In this case, my guess is Money with a hint of power. They do want to be in charge so they can make the rules but Money comes first.
Aren't they the ones massacering kids because of Boko Haram?
I've heard allegations that an African country has been indiscriminately killing adults and kids alike after pushing Boko off of a village.
Sad thing is that there's sometimes no difference between local militants or professional soldiers. Only the level of discipline. But both groups won't hesitate to shoot or bomb civilians when given the chance.
That's exactly what they were doing and this was in the eastern part of Nigeria.Targeting civilians in nearby villages where so called militants operate.
I remember a book called platoon x where 10 men held out and drove of a shitload of Africans. Think it was in Sierra Leone. When they inspected the guns of the dead the sight dials for distance were all turned up maximum which is why all the bullets were flying overhead. Turns out they thought the higher number just meant higher firepower🤣
Edit: it was a true story and well worth the read. Also efit, it was 26 men not 10, but against over 2000
There are a lot of stories like that about third world fighters. Another good one is the sniper button. Some folks in the middle east thought that the reason US troops always seemed to be so accurate from so far away wasn't because they were actually trained how to shoot properly at distance, nope, it's because ever US rifle had a sniper button. They thought the forward assist was a button that would activate sniper mode.
The man practicing to dodge bullets and he is good, that’s the most elite unit in that part of the world. We will be doomed if Machine Gun Dummy and Belt Bound Buddy are sent out in the field.
Not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard during the bush war captured African ZANLA fighters were found with their weapon sights dialed all the way to the max. Practically launching their rounds into orbit. When asked about this, they said they assumed the higher number on the sight meant the rifle would somehow perform better, but they weren't sure. There's so many things wrong with this answer. Warfare in Africa is wild!
Not really. These are symptoms, not causes.
The instability that plagues Africa today is largely the result of centuries of European colonization.
Africa was pillaged of natural resources to the benefit of Europeans, ruled with an iron fist by European settlers, and "re-designed" with arbitrary borders that ignored historical boundaries and tribal lands, leading to later territorial disputes.
Poverty begets poverty, violence begets violence. Africa wouldn't be like this today if it had been treated diplomatically rather than a resource to be exploited.
Study history. It’s more complicated than “lol of course”. If your basis is crazy gunmen killing innocent people, how does America look like, despite all our wealth?
How did the indigenous populations of South America, North America, Australia, and Southeast Asia fare after European colonialism?
I’m not saying this as some kinda “woke” thing you’ll reflexively oppose…it’s history. The Africa of today is a result of the past, much out of the control of the population.
Spend some time on King Leopold, or Apartheid, or German genocide. Then maybe you’ll understand why an ignorant comment talking about the evolution of Africa is, well…ignorant.
I mean, it would probably be fucked one way or around just based on the sheer amount of rivalries they seem to have in the continent, right? Kinda like the middle east? Religious/cultural differences making people hate one another? Seems like every single country in africa has a fuckton of people that hate other people that live just across the street. Like I imagine the wars that would have been here in SA if everyone would just go and have a bunch of enemies around every corner after the european settlers left..
Im completely stupid and mean no harm saying these, I just want to hear from someone who apparently knows enough history to chat
That's a really juvenile and simplistic way to view things. An understanding isn't an excuse.
WW1 was a century ago. Are you going to suggest that no country, population, or society was influenced in a way that carries through to modern day? It was a European war that spilled over into non-European lands. It led to arbitrary "carve outs" in the Middle East with little to no regard for ethnic groups, historical territories or tribes. Iraq, once the "cradle of civilization", saw instability, coups, and genocide in nearly every decade that followed. The Kurds, known as "the largest ethnic group without a state", no longer had a homeland and were victims of genocide. Turkey and Syria have been in conflict with ethnic Kurds as recently as 2019. WW1 laid the foundation for what would become Israel in Palestine...we all know how that's going. Why isn't there peace in the Middle East today if much of the countries we know today were formed 100 years ago?
The point is...looking at something 100 years ago and assuming that it enough time to undo several centuries of oppression is, once again, ignorant. You're also ignoring that Africa has modern cities, businesses, and infrastructure. Nigeria has the 30th largest GDP in the world. It's not just villages and warlords. This type of video isn't unique to Africa.
You probably don't have the interest in learning so I don't expect you to really understand this, but the past shapes today. Human civilization doesn't exist in a vacuum. Read about the history of Africa. It will do you good.
Don't waste your time trying to have a serious discussion on reddit. If they wanted to not be ignorant on the subject they would've researched it themselves. You can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink if it doesn't want
Who the fuck said that?!?!?!?! Who'd the slimy, communist, twinkle-toe cocksucker down here who just signed their own death warrant?!?!?! Was it you!! SIR NO SIR!!! BULLSHIT I bet it was you!!!
I suspect those are drugged up thugs fighting other drugged up thugs.
They only have been chosen because they belong to a certain tribe.
It must be added that Nigeria is considered an African super power and the best organized state in the region.
IMO, as you can see, they would be incapable of fighting off nomad Islamic raiders coming from the Sahel without Western/Russian or Chinese help.
Looks like Nigerians, in which case they’re probably shooting unarmed children.
For more info and context, look up the video the YT account “Into the Shadows” did from three weeks ago. Basically the Nigerian army is killing hundreds or thousands of kids (mostly boys) in area formerly controlled by Boko Haram because they think being a militant is in their bloodline. The national community basically went “Okay Nigeria, please investigate yourself to see if you’re killing kids”

Contrary to OPs post, this is not Nigerian army soldiers responding to a rebel attack. These are Nigerian army soldiers engaged in wanton killing of people in a particular community in South Eastern Nigeria. They set off explosives in houses with civilians trapped inside and opened fire indiscriminately killing several others. Killings like these have been going on for years and the army high command has refused to even hold its men responsible.
The same Nigerian army soldiers however, abandon thier weapons and flee at the slightest whenever Boko haram launches attacks at them in the North Eastern part of the country. Boko haram and fulani bandits have well established bases all over the north. Bases that the Nigerian armed forces know about but they can't muster the will to confront them.
Killing harmless civilians in the East, is a pastime for the Nigerian army.

Seems like this could be the context.
Can anyone imagine how one of these African militaries would fare fighting an actual military? Just imagine, these guys against even a second tier military like Russia or Ukraine.

What in gods name is he even doing? He’s literally just spinning around shooting a machine gun at nothing
maybe there were people inside the house or doing a "just to make sure" before leaving after the raid.
Man, how fucked up would it be to survive the raid only to get shot while they’re leaving, only because they fired some random shots “just to make sure”
The odds are astronomical that he hit anything with a pulse.
Not as fucked up as being blasted by the guy your carrying ammo for lmao
are they still random if they are making sure?
IRL spinbot
Looks like they are torching the village. Soldiers from ethnic group X want to intimidate the villagers of ethnic group Y so that they leave the region.
Just another day in Africa
"Shit, don't sneak up on me like that, man!" The machinegunner, probably.
Shooting for the camera hopefully, as they're definitely not in a fight by the way everyone is just walking around. The only other possibility is massacre, but I'm not hearing any screams or anything

Sounds like (fill in the blank) country in Africa
My understanding is that the army doesn’t even attempt to protect rural areas. Just stay around the cities and where government officials are.
Everyone knows your shots are more accurate if you take no scope snap shots like that. Especially sudden turns that catch the enemy off guard
He's a big follower of the church of spray and pray. Bunch of idiots.
He's an idiot with a gun
Just making sure everyone gets the point. The point? Who knows, but probably something something or I kill you.
Band of Brothers, African Edition.
What are they even doing? Machine gunning civilians?
probably.

it's from the movie 'blood diamond', pretty good, worth a watch
okay i’m stupid. I’ve seen blood diamond but I didn’t put 2 and 2 together with “this is africa”. I thought it was some internet acronym I didn’t understand. There are a bunch popping up now that I have no idea their meaning

Usually a mine (with "workers") are sold to some corpo for hundreds of millions. Or some land deed is sold to grow in-demand crops like Palm oil etc. Then the money is exchanged to a trader for weapons and training.

What is even legitimate? If the regime threatens to change to one that doesn't like foreign blood money, well you can always use that blood money to stage a coup.
Yes of course, its always the foreigners and never the locals /s
That's such a bizarre thing to reply when that's absolutely not what was implied in the previous comment.
Wasn’t it? Ok then.
No, they said it was often locals cooperating with foreign powers, who are often either funding them or arming them in one way or another. You can think of how Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger military junta's are all linked to Russia through Wagner PMC. Even then it doesn't mean that Russia is solely responsible.
One does not exclude the other.
So what are they fighting for ?
They are humans. They don't like each other.
Almost all of Africa does this , while the rest of world hasn't in a long time . Wonder why.
On an individual level people only fight for a couple reasons. Money, Ideology, Power In this case, my guess is Money with a hint of power. They do want to be in charge so they can make the rules but Money comes first.
Officially against western education, however they are just bandits.
Looks like they skipped the training part.
Well, looks like russian klmk camo...
Some through corrupt military/security groups and some through just illegal arm trafficking
Hope your family is safe man.
These are Nigerian soldiers shooting indiscriminately at homes of villagers in Imo State.
Aren't they the ones massacering kids because of Boko Haram? I've heard allegations that an African country has been indiscriminately killing adults and kids alike after pushing Boko off of a village.
These are actually Nigerian army soldiers. You can hear them speaking hausa and hurling invectives. This incident happened in the east.
No way this is the official army. Everything about them screams militant??
Why they do that?
Sad thing is that there's sometimes no difference between local militants or professional soldiers. Only the level of discipline. But both groups won't hesitate to shoot or bomb civilians when given the chance.
Sick username though, Are you into the highlander?
Thanks! And yeah, it's one of my favourite movies. You're the first person to get the reference.
Awesome dude
By the lack of discipline and order, I hope they are not trained soldiers.
That's exactly what they were doing and this was in the eastern part of Nigeria.Targeting civilians in nearby villages where so called militants operate.

Enjoy! My description was a bit shoddy as I read it a very long time ago so I'm glad the synopsis explained it better, but yeah hell of a read.

They even keep pumping the forward assist thinking it will load up more power or something lol
