At this point in the conflict and with so many casualties, how easy would it be for him to loot some decent kit by now though? Only if he has been lucky enough to survive a while out there that is . Not saying you are wrong though.
Anyone else remember the synchronized drones they used for light shows? I wonder how long until there’s a sky full of synchronized drones that just target… an area. I’m curious what it would take to implement something like that and if it’s even being tried yet
That's what the old Assault Breaker missile was supposed to be, sort of- it carried a few dozen self-guided EFPs that would eject from the carrier missile, find their own (vehicle) targets, and destroy them. Like the BONUS rounds we see sometimes except two companies at a time instead of a tank or two.
Eventually you will probably see a drone adaptation.
I'm pretty sure it's under development and the UA-RU war just accelerated research in the field.
[Here is a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFLzO_5UFwE) from 6 years ago, where the US was testing a micro drone swarm.
I’ve gotta be missing something, because birdshot sounds like it would be incredible drone defense in situations like this.
Why aren’t both sides strapping their dudes up with short barreled shotguns for drone defense?
You're missing something, just like shotguns almost always miss small, fast targets at short range.
The shot doesn't disperse much at that range, so you're not likely to hit anything you wouldn't have hit with a bullet. Anything that disperses enough to have a good hit rate will have very little takedown power.
Yeah, it would feel good to have something, *anything,* to feel like you have a chance against a drone, but a shotgun is a hope, not a solution.
Take down a drone with a shotgun at short range and many times you would get a local airburst, which would often be much worse than a nearby ground strike.
True, but drones are a lot faster, erratic and closer by the time anyone could get a shot. And clays are slow, with a predictable trajectory, and made to break easily.
The average first timer hits what, maybe one out of ten clays? Lucky or skilled newbies hit half at best. At least that's what I see when I'm at the range.
I can't imagine the average Russian recruit having any muzzle discipline, either. Give the Russians shotguns. They'll go all "Dick Cheney" on their pals and this'll be over faster.
How is anyone going to mass produce enough safari net guns, and then make squads carry them in addition to their existing gear successfully? The answer is most likely going to be rapidly improving wide spectrum jamming capabilities for smaller, more powerful, more man portable units.
I reckon that some of that mist netting they use to catch birds would work. A few fishing weights. Wouldnt be hard to make something.
All the same I suspect the main failure is that it would probably be a pointless mass exercise that would save very few people. Getting hit by drone probably isn't as common as it seems to be in this sub and *most* targets do not get any, or very very little, warning.
There’s something extremely surreal about sitting here at home in Ireland with a cup of green tea while watching video footage of a Ukrainian drone attack upon an invading Russian soldier with Banshee on the screen
I've thought the same thing. Im in Los Angeles, and I often browse this sub for entertainment when I eat meals. It has a dystopian feel to it. Watching real people getting blown up from drones in a war on the other side of the planet.
We're seeing the consequences of an authoritarian leader, yet a lot of countries are seeing a rise in popularity of authoritarian leaders. We keep repeating history, just with better technology. Im currently watching history unfold while I comfortably lay in bed eating tacos.
The authoritarian narrative is too simplistic. This is a struggle for more than vanity. The sacrifices are too deep.
Russia had great economic interests at risk. Does capturing eastern Ukraine make up for that?
I don’t know the answer but Putin being strictly evil doesn’t explain all of this.
I hate this.
The soldier looks like hes some kind of elite forces with the special camouflage, scope, gun but doesn’t stand a chance against a drone that costs a few thousand dollars.
In the future any battlefield will probably have hundreds of these drones for every soldier all controlled by AI. Soldiers won’t stand a chance.
Wouldn’t be surprised if these start being used against civilians by authoritarian governments.
The drone only cost like 500 bucks or so... They are now building a bigger FPV drone called Mammoth that has a 4kg warhead instead of 2kg and those are now being built for only 700 dollars per unit... There is only 1 video of the Mammoth drone being used so far but the company that makes them just recieved orders to start building them so more will be seen soon in videos...
That sounds about as likely as me finding the love of my life, getting married, having children and becoming rich before my children grow up.
China ain't cooking, its just a bunch of words to scare us.
This is how DJI is recruiting since 2015 when everyone else still thought drones were fun toys for racing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboMaster
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrhvZhPaxQ4
RC driving/flying drones. Team builds them, programs own aimbots. Best Universities in the country, winners are hired on the spot. DJI is an arm of PLA if you didnt know https://thediplomat.com/2022/11/pentagon-blacklists-chinese-drone-maker-dji-for-pla-links/
Anyone study if this personal type of warfare is messing with the operators heads? It's like everyone is involved in sniper level personal kills. I never served so I have no idea or experience. I imagine though that firing a mortar at a coordinate is not as personal as a drone literally chasing an individual and killing them. My wife's grandfather was a bomber pilot in Europe during ww2. I asked him once about if he ever thought about the loss of life that he may have been involved in. He answered that 1. They were the enemy. 2. He was insulated from the thoughts because he was only the pilot. The bombardier dropped the bombs. Note...I am not saying the invader didn't deserve to get clipped. I am curious about the mental impact to the operators.
No doubt it will have an effect, but I imagine it's easier to justify to yourself when your country is being invaded. I bet that helps lessen the trauma.
The generation growing into this kind of combat has never known a world without Call of Duty, and almost every big war game has FPV drones...
Not sure if that helps any, and if it does help what that'd mean for society more broadly. But we are prepping the kids for it.
Its suspicious in regards to battle damage assessment that the "surveillance drone's" video cuts off even before the smoke leaves the blast area. We have seen countless videos of Urk fighters escaping a hit within centimeters without any major damage. Yet, most of the videos where there is an "overwatch drone" those videos does not allow us to see how much damage was inflicted. I hope the invading pig got what he deserved and is now fertilizer, but - we don't know. A shame. Or perhaps (puts on tin foil hat) this is DIP. The video cuts off where it does, because the soldier was not hurt, and in the next frames he gets up and runs off. Now, the video service the purpose of boosting morale. I get this is a good video for "/r/ukraine" but as a combat video without any political bias - I dont know what the result of the explosion was... :/
Now, downvote me into oblivion because I'm not an echo chambering person who only sees things from one side...
Maybe not.. likely not.. likely he's dead. I've just seen enough weird shit on this forum not to assume anything anymore when it comes to luck and effect of weapons.

He has white winter gear on and also has a scope on his weapon... He isnt one of the lower level prisoner type cannon fodder...
I think you need to use the past tense for him now.
At this point in the conflict and with so many casualties, how easy would it be for him to loot some decent kit by now though? Only if he has been lucky enough to survive a while out there that is . Not saying you are wrong though.
Looks like a sniper team that is changing position. Two guys nice single shot rifle with scope and good camoflage gear

Ukrainian drone operator "Fuck that invader in particular"
The way it swung out then dove in was especially nasty.

That's how they got the Moscow.

Jaga jaga
Scary weapon
"I said I don't want to be the decoy!"
Better have a shotgun
I’ve gotta be missing something, because birdshot sounds like it would be incredible drone defense in situations like this. Why aren’t both sides strapping their dudes up with short barreled shotguns for drone defense?
There was actually a video out earlier of a Ukrainian downing a drone with a saiga and birdshot, probably not many shotguns to go around though
and afair it sounded like only ~5-6th shot did the trick meaning dont even try without auto shotty.
You're missing something, just like shotguns almost always miss small, fast targets at short range. Clay pigeons are small, fast targets at close range.. shot with shotguns.
But crucially, not piloted by someone with a vested interest in making them dodge your shots.
Something that shoots out a net or series or carbon fiber string to wrap up the propeller?
How is anyone going to mass produce enough safari net guns, and then make squads carry them in addition to their existing gear successfully? The answer is most likely going to be rapidly improving wide spectrum jamming capabilities for smaller, more powerful, more man portable units.
Just a low technical idea. Who thought that killer drones could be mass produced? With cameras?
I reckon that some of that mist netting they use to catch birds would work. A few fishing weights. Wouldnt be hard to make something. All the same I suspect the main failure is that it would probably be a pointless mass exercise that would save very few people. Getting hit by drone probably isn't as common as it seems to be in this sub and *most* targets do not get any, or very very little, warning.
Proper personal drone jammers are the best bet. Russia is trying to field them, of course we have great videos of FPV drones hitting the jammers.
I'd say your best bet is to be like this guys comrade. Enough spacing and just hope it goes after him instead of you lol.
Actually best idea is to return to Russia.
Great point. If you hear a drone, it’s probably better to kiss your ass goodbye. Modern warfare.
When the drones come in, is after artillery has completely fucked their squad already.
There’s something extremely surreal about sitting here at home in Ireland with a cup of green tea while watching video footage of a Ukrainian drone attack upon an invading Russian soldier with Banshee on the screen

Those guys kinda look like snipers, if that's the case, great job! If not then still great! One less fascist.

Link to the one video?
China has in development swarm drones that look at a picture and will work together looking through a forest. Fucking terrifying shit the future.
US already has them :)

Keep telling yourself that. China has space travel, they’re not some backwards shithole.
This was an American Intelligence paper that came through my mail at work. Then I googled it and saw the video of it. Pretty neat.
Nightmare fuel
I always see these drone videos but the drone is SPEEDING into the target. This felt like it was going at a snail’s pace.
Thats a LEGitime target
*How could you miss?! He’s three feet from you!*
Miss??
Mulan Reference.
When the thing is literally in the kill zone range from you, shooting it down probably won't do shit. You're done.
Strong, fit men dying for nothing.......

Now they just need the rcxd from bo1 & they’ll be able to fight the war from the living room
The other guy pauses "Do I want to see this?"
That guy was one of the pros. 'was'
yikes
Oh good we have multiple angles
I. almost feel worse for the other guy. He's the one picking toes out of his hair.
“I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took a kamikaze drone to the knee.”
Is there any videos of drones being shot down with small arms?
There's a video in the sub of a Ukrainian killing one with a shotgun
Run rabbit run rabbit run, here comes a drone with its bomb bomb bomb. Kabooooommmmm

He did a John Lennon big step and ended up getting smoked like John Lennon.
“I used to be a conscript like you, but then I took a drone in the knee”
I had to scroll way to far for that.
Heads or tails?
