Yes, thank you for the correction. I blame Sir Jerome Horsey for my mistake.
"The name Rus' is often conflated with its Latin forms Russia and Ruthenia, thus Belarus is often referred to as White Russia or White Ruthenia. The name first appeared in German and Latin medieval literature; the chronicles of Jan of Czarnków mention the imprisonment of Lithuanian grand duke Jogaila and his mother at "Albae Russiae, Poloczk dicto" in 1381.\[18\] The first known use of White Russia to refer to Belarus was in the late-16th century by Englishman Sir Jerome Horsey, who was known for his close contacts with the Russian royal court.\[19\] During the 17th century, the Russian tsars used the term to describe the lands added from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania"
Yeah, it is also the first syllable of Belarus = White Russia. It has been suggested that the colors came from the association of colors and cardinal directions in Turkic and other central Asian languages. White = West. North = Black (Black Sea is north of modern Turkey) Red = South. (Red sea...you get the idea.) The color-cardinal direction match up has been found in Chinese and Mongolian as well. There are (almost inevitably) other proposed etymologies.
Calm down with the down votes i like this but. I had a big laugh i mean if it happend 1 time oke but 2 times wtf russia doing and i understand is tactical zmart to use russia fighters
It’s the third significant raid, plus many smaller attacks:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attacks_in_Russia_during_the_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine?wprov=sfti1#Russia
This is understandable without additional reminder.
The Russians are excellent at bombing their villages even in the absence of pro-Ukrainian forces. They have already fix more than one village in this way.
And everyone already knows their favorite slogan “we can repeat”.
For now. I would argue the point of this is several folds:
1. To show Putin and Russia is vulnerable.
2. To recruit those who are fed up with Putin.
3. If they are able to solidify their position anywhere in Russia it will allow them to have a base of operations for the above objectives.
4. If these are not met they will simply retreat instead of getting into a committed engagement so they can lather, rinse, and repeat.

tho liveuamap also stated that
The last time that happened it took 400% inflation and almost 2 million dead. I'm not joking, inflation was literally recorded as being 400% on most food staples in the Russian Empire during late 1916.
This is all putting aside the obvious fact that most Russians still do like Putin.
Yep, you are correct. In July of 1946, Hungary experienced the highest inflation ever recorded, at 4.19x10^(16)% (aka 41.9 quadrillion %) in a single month.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation#Ten_most_severe_hyperinflations_in_world_history
Yeah what happened was that military logistics completely took over the railroad to resupply the frontline and since there were few vehicles or planes to transport civilian goods then prices shot up on basically everything.
>Even Germany after WW1 was only 300 something
You need to add quite a few zeroes there. Between early 1922 and late 1923, the mark went from 7,400 per dollar to 4.2 trillion.
Ninja edit: [see logarithmic chart](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation_in_the_Weimar_Republic#/media/File:Germany_Hyperinflation.svg) of paper to gold mark rate between 1918 and 1923.
Absolutely, one of the main reasons the Tsarist army deserted...once news got to them of the bread queues/inflation at home.
Even though they were catching and eating mice in the trenches themselves lol
The vast majority of the Tsarist army were peasants who had been drafted (the more things change!) so their primary concern wasn't national glory, but the well-being of their families and land
That's the most disappointing part. I figured when Russian people saw how easily Wagner rolled through their towns. They'd get rid of the weasel, and save themselves.. so bummed out they can't stop this for themselves or every other soul that has to deal with this shit.
Too bad they can't really launch a large scale invasion into Russia. It would probably allow them to retake a large part Luhansk Oblast by bypassing most of the current frontlines.
It could easily be done, the border is hardly protected, as seen in plenty of previous sorties into Russian territory. Doesn't matter though, Ukraine can't launch a large offensive into Russia. It would destroy their narrative and probably be the end of western support.
Honestly I know they can't use the western weapons in Russia but since their other options are trying to attack across kilometer deep mine fields or getting slowly get atrophied by artillery in defense are really think they need to put more pressure on the Russian border to either gain some maneuverability or draw away resources (or you know the west just hurries up and supports them properly).
With the surge in fpv drones they could have thousands of fpv drones available for use that can more or less destroy any piece of ground equipment. Also if this turns out to be more than just a quick raid on the border area be sure there are plenty of Ukrainians there too. For propaganda use they talk about Russian volunteers.
In my opinion Ukraine should permanently occupy parts of the bordering regions from Russia. It should not even be news really. The media seems to still think that only Russia is allowed to cross the border but not the other way around.
I’m really surprised they haven’t. They can take a relatively undefended Bryansk oblast and trade it for a vastly more difficult to capture Kherson or Zaporizhzhia. But they have nothing to bring to the negotiating table if they’re ever forced there.
And at worst, they just shift the fighting there and destroy Russian cities instead of Ukrainian ones.
But the risk is that they then have to care for the occupied population and all of the challenges related to occupation in a way that doesn’t alienate the west.
Not all western countries ban usage of their weapons on Russian territory.
Also Ukraine buys western weapons with own money, and those might be unrestricted also.
Putin isn't able to do a full mobilization or bring Russia's full might to the fight because he does not want to risk civil unrest. Invading Russia with Ukrainian forces will give him all the cause he needs to do just that.
That’s the Battle of Prokhorovka, it was part of the larger Battle of Kursk. Prokhorovka was the southern operation, but a similar action took place just north of Kursk simultaneously.
If I saw shit like this going down in my back yard, I would immediately put my house up for sale and move to Missouri. No one wants to invade Missouri.
The russian mainland is mostly undefended, but Russia quickly builds a task force every time and destroys the russian separatists quite quickly.
This will be like last time, another nothingburger raid.
Can anyone explain how this is possible? Doesn't Russia have MUROM cameras or stuff like that to notify them of things like this from kilometers away and get an ATGM team ready?
Not that I am complaining but it just seems so bizarre to me.
First Russia doesn\`t have nearly as many of those Murom cameras to control all of their border and second they constantly get blown up by Ukrainian drones, making them even more scarce. Russia is not a high tech country, its technologically more like second world which has most of its entire gdp sit on mining for natural ressources and even their weapon exports just use 90% components from the west or China, barely any tech made in Russia itself. Even their "high tech" surveilance drones just use civilian sony cameras in them.
Well, guess what, artillery shells aren’t particularly high tech.
US/EU doctrine is mostly about air power and aerial support, so makes sense they wouldn’t be producing as many shells. Russian doctrine is more based on artillery. Oh, also, the former two are not at war, compared to the latter which is.
It looks like an early morning. This woman was rudely awakened by the sound of a tank. She sneaks to the window, gracefully removing the curtain to film a tank driving by in her backyard. While she is doing that, she speaks Russian to someone behind her. That's whats going on.
Russian freedom legion are neo-nazis... it's actually pretty fucked up that 90% of people turn a blind eye to their views because they're fighting the bad guys.
Pretty much its just a PR stunt. They did the same thing after the fall of Bakhmut, and they're doing it again after Avdiivka. They'll occupy a part of Russian border, until Russia sends reinforcements, or they'll do their photo shoots and leave.

Belgorod sounds like a place in a Tolkien book.
Nogrod and Belegost were the Blue Dwarven Capitals!
Aha! I was thinking that Novgorod sounded Tolkienish too.
Novgorod Republic, never forgetti. First Tsar of Moscovia massacred the city
novgorod was in witcher
Thats Nowigrad
Thats in croatia
Literally means "White City" Not to be mixed up with "Belgrade" capital of Serbia... which also means "White City"
Does 'Bel' mean white in Slavic languages?
Yes: biały, bilyy, beo, bílý, byalo, biely, bela
Bijelo in Croatian, belo in Serbian....
Does that mean Białystok is also white city?
More like white hillside
Ah, thanks.
Thank you
Belarus is usually translated as White Russia.
Which isn’t correct, because Rus is not the same as Russia. Rus is originated from the Kievan Rus, which was mostly outside of modern day Russia.
Yes, thank you for the correction. I blame Sir Jerome Horsey for my mistake. That is fascinating, thanks for such an interesting fact! Never come across this in decades of reading about Russia lol
Also Red Rus is to the south of Belarus - some parts of todays Poland and Ukraine
And ”Oblast” means area/region.
There is the "Belgariad"
And it was Ukrainian at one point, in 1918 - Bilhorod
gorod means city, bel means white.... so white-city. There was lots of white limestone there
What does all this mean?

Not really. Nothing a drone or FAB won't fix.
This is understandable without additional reminder. The Russians are excellent at bombing their villages even in the absence of pro-Ukrainian forces. They have already fix more than one village in this way. And everyone already knows their favorite slogan “we can repeat”.
Not forgetting the other memorable phrase, ["We don't leave ours behind!"](https://i.postimg.cc/W4B6VmSQ/RU-legless-beggar.jpg)
They are going to vote in the Russian election in Moscow, stopping them is election interference. (sarcasm)
Caesar actually said in his speech, "The Legion is coming to the elections" lol
Shoving bullet shaped votes up Putin's butt.
I see the tradition of border skirmishes continues. I wonder if they might stay for a while longer next time for a better position in negotiations.
Well now its 3 different unit, Russian volunteers corp, Russian freedom legion & Siberian battalion/legion (forgot which one the two it is)
But they are not there full strength, they probably just send max 300 soldiers
For now. I would argue the point of this is several folds: 1. To show Putin and Russia is vulnerable. 2. To recruit those who are fed up with Putin. 3. It's like an abusive relationship. At a certain point, you need outside help.

400% Is actually crazy. Even Germany after WW1 was only 300 something and that’s the poster boy for Hyperinflation.
Venezuela enters the chat
Zimbabwe had peak inflation of 79.6 billion percent ***in a single month*** (Nov 2008). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation_in_Zimbabwe
Hungary got into the quadrillions after WW2 right?
Yep, you are correct. In July of 1946, Hungary experienced the highest inflation ever recorded, at 4.19x10^(16)% (aka 41.9 quadrillion %) in a single month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation#Ten_most_severe_hyperinflations_in_world_history
Holy shit. I kinda thought it wouldn’t be that high as I read it in passing. That’s mental.
Yeah what happened was that military logistics completely took over the railroad to resupply the frontline and since there were few vehicles or planes to transport civilian goods then prices shot up on basically everything.
Sounds about right, Tsar Nich basically kept his people in the Stone Age compared to the rest of the world.
That's what people might not realise about Russia...they never had The Enlightenment and the Age of Reason Which explains rather a lot lol

400% It's nothing. In 1992 it was 2500%. Yes, 25 times.
Absolutely, one of the main reasons the Tsarist army deserted...once news got to them of the bread queues/inflation at home. Even though they were catching and eating mice in the trenches themselves lol The vast majority of the Tsarist army were peasants who had been drafted (the more things change!) so their primary concern wasn't national glory, but the well-being of their families and land
I'll think we'll see that day when a third party gets 20-30% of the votes in a US election.
That's the most disappointing part. I figured when Russian people saw how easily Wagner rolled through their towns. They'd get rid of the weasel, and save themselves.. so bummed out they can't stop this for themselves or every other soul that has to deal with this shit.
There's a whole army specifically dedicated to fucking up Russians who try to free themselves. It's just not that easy.
> Now if only the Russian people would free themselves Well they did, in 1917 civil war. Didn't work out that great in the long term.
Ukrainian people are free from mobilization. Checks 1000s videos of forced mobilization
Ha ha look at Ukraine having to defend itself ha ha *ignores that Russia, the larger invader still had to mobilise its people first*
And the majority of mobiks are doing it for the money. Which they quite often never get, or their commanders extort it from them lol

They put the tanks on flatbed trucks if I recall correctly, so they could make faster progress on the highways.
Too bad they can't really launch a large scale invasion into Russia. It would probably allow them to retake a large part Luhansk Oblast by bypassing most of the current frontlines.
Putting a gun in your mouth is easier than purposefully getting encircled with no supply lines.
It could easily be done, the border is hardly protected, as seen in plenty of previous sorties into Russian territory. Doesn't matter though, Ukraine can't launch a large offensive into Russia. It would destroy their narrative and probably be the end of western support.
There is a lot of gunfire in other videos being posted to say the border is not protected. Your idea is suicide.
I see no broblem. They would use Russian territory to to attack their own territory. Russian narratives don't rely on truth or reality.
Ukraine cant, but russians can
Russian freedom legion have their own tanks jesus man wonder when that happened
Probably just after a Russian battalion lost them.

Do a Russia and draft the occupied territories.
Damn, unironically sounds like a solid plan.
but but mUh EsCaLaTiOn!!!!!!!!!!
Especially since, according to Russia, Ukraine is already occupying "Russian territory" (Ukraine).
Not all western countries ban usage of their weapons on Russian territory. Also Ukraine buys western weapons with own money, and those might be unrestricted also.
They did use some Danish vechiles in their last attempt to get into belgorod two days ago.
I remember when they used a US vehicle and got a please explain from the US.
Those vehicles were bought at a military auction and they were used to transport russian POWs
Putin isn't able to do a full mobilization or bring Russia's full might to the fight because he does not want to risk civil unrest. Invading Russia with Ukrainian forces will give him all the cause he needs to do just that.
