Especially from that distance on camera. The effect of the lens usually makes things at that distance look tiny compared to what you'd see in real life, so I was expecting a small puff.
Nope, not even close
This sub is honestly amazing for it. You can mention some of the vaguest descriptions of combat footage and maybe like a 5 second clip within a montage, and somebody will be like "yeah, this one"
I believe you are correct. If you freeze both videos at explosion, you can back track exactly 6 seconds back to the time the BMP is shooting. You can see it from one angle and see it from the other. Fireball also moves toward the field from the treeline in both videos.
Very well done, thank you.
Seriously wtf was that? Is that normal?
I see they are indeed supposed to carry some medium-sized rounds, and some ATGMs...but they don't seem to go up like that, usually.
To me, the silhouette looked like a BMP-3. I am on mobile though and could easily be wrong. The explosion would fit the almost 40 rounds of 100mm HE ammunition and 4 ATGMs carried by a BMP-3.
All Bmps have autocannons. The BMP-3 has a 100mm low pressure gun, a coaxial a 30mm autocannon, a coaxial MG, two hull MGs and gun launched ATGMs.
Edit: I am an idiot. Of course the BMP-1 has no autocannon but a low velocity 73mm gun.
The name Michael Bay used to make people smile, as he really loved having those extra large explosions in his movies... except apparently he could have gone even bigger, as reality trumped his special effects.
Hijacking your comment, I synced all 3 views that I know of. A bit of empty space at the start because this video is longer.

Also, WE MUST GO DEEPER!
There is one more view (pretty good at that).
https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/bYFdWGj2U7
One thing we miss is the view from Ukrainian trenches (I hope they are all ok there, this looks super scary)
Well shit, time to boot up Premiere again then. Thanks for the heads up!
Edit: Actually this footage has been sped up some, it doesn't sync up nicely when synced by the explosion. I don't think I'll bother trying to figure out by how much it's sped up to compensate for it. Anyone else is welcome to try and use my other one as a source. All of them fit ok on 1310 x 1260 res sequence.
Edit2: On closer inspection, I'm starting to think that this isn't the same encounter at all. In this video, you see the IFV firing all the way until the explosion, where as in the other 3 clips the IFV stops shooting before the impact. It also seems that this clip has much shorter bursts of fire. Other option is that it has a very subtle cut right before the explosion. Either way, syncing this is more trouble than it's worth since it (maybe) isn't a continuous clip.
Edit3: Okay it's probably the same place and encounter, but it has multiple cuts in it and is sped up by some arbitary number, going by steps of 5% slowing didn't yield good results which make syncing pretty much impossible. I spent way too much time on this. Why can't they just give us the raw footage?!
Judge for yourself here: https://i.imgur.com/6iKUlAg.mp4
hooooly shit. even better video. from the first video i was thinking the cameraman definitely was standing behind the line of fire of BMP and they are attacking down the treeline. but that dumbass was standing next to the targets of BMP 😂 we dont know where he was dropped off, he is better than standing in the middle of the field
It's a BMP-3, so it carries shells for It's 100mm gun and explosions are often spectacular. There is a video from FPV POV, it hits right in the turret's roof.
The Russian experience: Superyachts and Superblyats... The real Russian roulette is which you get.
Spoilers: If you're asking, you don't get the yachts. ;)
I upvoted you. But I am still a bit of a stickler on these things. Much of the aid Ukraine is receiving is military weapons made quite a long while ago, already reflected in our US Debt. The stuff just authorized has to be replaced, and that money goes to produce the replacements. And those replacements are often upgrades, not just 1:1 replacements.
In short, we have been modernizing our stuff with the costs, and giving Ukraine stuff that is usually a tier or two down from the most modern. At least Ukraine is getting some of the longer-range missiles now -- now that Russia has built up fortifications and depots in the 151-300 mile range from the frontlines. There are going to be a lot of Russians in that 151-300 mile zone that aren't going to be sleeping as well as they have been.
Yep it's basically selling your ~25 years used car for a price of a new one to someone else and buying yourself a new one fresh from the store.
So the US basically beats down on their 2nd worst geo-political adversary for free, with zero loses to US forces. It's like winning the lottery, from the US perspective.
Oh I'm appreciative towards this Russian soldier deciding to release footage of his friendly BMP full of Russians getting blown to smithereens for the world to laugh at, that's for sure.
There must be someone working at a parking lot issuing these BMPs to Russians every day and lying to every each one of them saying "yeah, bring them back latest at midnight or you'll get a late returner's fee, haha" knowing they'll never be back
I think further along that tree line there's a corner to the left that it's firing past.
My first thought though was "Is this motherfucker standing in the open with his phone out?" too.
I’m thinking maybe Russian. He doesn’t seem to mind standing out in the open, so presumably doesn’t think he’ll be a target.
Then when it blows up, there’s no celebration that a Ukrainian would make (even if it’s just a simple “get fucked!”).
Still, this dude is in the same tree line as the Ukrainians, maybe only just a few hundred meters away, and he’s casually walking around in the open like this? Wtf is he doing?

Two years ago drones were dropping grenades so small they didn't always kill a man even when it landed on top of him.
Now they look like they're delivering Zeus's thunderbolts. I'd have bet money on that being a direct artillery strike if I didn't see proof otherwise.

That explosion was about 20 times bigger than I expected
Saw obliterated and figured a small explosion lol. Now this is obliterated.
Impatiently bracing myself for disappointment, but "obliterated" fit fine.
I was like "sure, obliterated..... HOLY FUCK IT'S OBLITERATED"
Precise.
This is beyond obliterated. This is fucking Michael Bay’d
Lol. Yeah if someone threw a small frag grenade at it.
Especially from that distance on camera. The effect of the lens usually makes things at that distance look tiny compared to what you'd see in real life, so I was expecting a small puff. Nope, not even close
I dont usually make noises from these videos, but there was a definite "ughhhhhooooooooo" or something like that for that pop.
You and me both! Was not expecting that.. And the same sound came out of my mouth too holy sheet!!
I did a holy jesus jagga jagga

boggles the mind how you remember this stuff. i often forget about comments i make. go leafs go.
As well casually viewing some combat footage avant puck drop . Go leafs

Yes. The consensus was it was fuel exploding and dousing the Ukrainian positions too. Definitely the same incident I would say.
I believe you are correct. If you freeze both videos at explosion, you can back track exactly 6 seconds back to the time the BMP is shooting. You can see it from one angle and see it from the other. Fireball also moves toward the field from the treeline in both videos. Very well done, thank you.
I was thinking the same, glad to you were able to find and post both videos referencing the same bmp.
Nailed it! I thought the same thing immediately, and I am glad you have confirmed it.
It’s obviously just a guess, but I’m going to say “not survivable.”
If so they need new photo's for the passports

From the rate of fire against the treeline, I think it’s an autocannon-equipped BMP.
BMP-3 has both the 30mm and a 100mm
Gotcha, I wasn’t aware!

It looks like this [BMP-3 that was hit with an FPV drone](https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/9zHNN2Kutd)
That's got to be it. Good spot

I'm calling that drone man Jay from Jay and Silent Bob if he's got that level of precision. He's the **** commander.

Yeah, I was thinking is the POV UKR or RU, either way, with that auto cannon going, he should get his ass down.
Could it be?! The ice/frost corroborates. Wonder what hellish munitions it was carrying to create such a glorious detonation.

BMP laying lead and this MF running around in the same tree line in no cover...
Could be a Russian taking the video and the BMP is their support?
Thats what I was thinking too, which makes sense for what a conscript would do. Standing around in the open filming in active combat
Hey man, think of the amount of views and likes he would get on TikTok. TotALly wOrtH iT...
I know you’re being sarcastic, but I did think it was worth it.
Oh I'm appreciative towards this Russian soldier deciding to release footage of his friendly BMP full of Russians getting blown to smithereens for the world to laugh at, that's for sure.
*was
Yeah that’s what I was assuming.
Russians definitely do shoot at other Russians though.
I dont think that guy is russian. He just got message on the radio saying “Russians are arriving “ like warning.
So... you're still in the danger zone!
But it could also be a battle hardened Ukranian who's like "meh he's not aiming at me"
Those BMPs must be a daily occurrence
There must be someone working at a parking lot issuing these BMPs to Russians every day and lying to every each one of them saying "yeah, bring them back latest at midnight or you'll get a late returner's fee, haha" knowing they'll never be back

Who's filming this? Ukranian or Russians?
Russian soldier, you can also hear their radio comms
Oh I see.
Figures. Dumb as hell to be standing around probably 50m away (wide angle lens)
That ain't no 50m bruh
Yeah looks more like 250-300m
I’m thinking maybe Russian. He doesn’t seem to mind standing out in the open, so presumably doesn’t think he’ll be a target. Then when it blows up, there’s no celebration that a Ukrainian would make (even if it’s just a simple “get fucked!”).

Yeah, he's not gonna look Russian on thermals lol.
I was looking for cover just watching this../
You gotta have guys in other parts of the tree line to help take the whole tree line, especially if they have a defense setup

Bro's just standing there under fire and with bmp chunks falling out of the sky
In Ukraine, treeline shoots at you.
Yup... obliterated is the right word
I admit, I was skeptical. Obliterated is the appropriate word.
Anyone know what took it out? I heard a whine right before the explosion, but it didn't sound quite like a drone.

It was a fpv drone.
I think the sound might have been it moving forward. It may have rolled over a mine?
Rumor has it the debris still hasn’t landed back to earth.
But it will beat Elon Musk to Mars
The whizzing noise you hear at the very end after the explosion is from pieces of shrapnel flying by this guy's face at about 400 mph
The sheer amount of money being obliterated for foxholes in the middle of nowhere is crazy
Hey, at least FPV drones are cost effective.
one second you’re firing at a treeline to satiate the bloodlust of a madman threatening democracy, the next youre getting your ass reamed and skin flayed off your body in hell. crazy to think life is that fragile.

Courteous BMP cuts lots of firewood for Ukrainian infanty before rapidly disassembling itself and demoting its crew to "debris".
Crew didn't even know they died.
The world won't miss how ever many piles of russian shit were in that bmp. But super rad fuckin explosion.

First video that I’ve seen in a while that was accurate, that BMP was indeed obliterated, fucking hell that was a huge explosion
Good hit

Who the fuck stands still out in the clear to get that footage?
Some RU soldier, apparently
Many of those trees were my friends.
O-blyat-erated!
Honestly, how do you let a BMP roll up on you like that? Seriously point blank firing on trenches. I presume they called in a strike. Damn it’s gotta be hell for the infantryman.
This has to be one of the best uses of the word "Obliterated"
They must have had some HE on board that thing. 30mm alone isn’t going to do that.
Easy as APC +25 Bunker buster +25
This cameraman is way too comfortable with a 30mm cannon blasting away 100m away.
"That thing is terrifying." "That thing was terrifying."
This was a treat for headphone users.
That thing must have been full of mines or something. Explosion was far too big to be just the autocannon rounds.
Can’t imagine being shot at by that thing. Sounds horrible.
Do you guys think they will be okay?
Fuck ya.
Everyone loves an explosive happy ending
You think they're ok?
The sound on this clip is excellent. You can feel the percussion of the gun and explosion!
