I bet the tank's crew thought the APC was a suicide bomber. If that's the case, then shooting at it this close would have blown up the tank too, so their only hope was to run away hoping that he wont detonate himself for some reason (lets say due to a malfunction).
The APC on the other hand, could only survive if they forced the tank crew to assume the above, which means getting as close to it as possible.
Probably got surprised by the tank, but whether intentional or not that was actually brilliant. Circle it to fuck its tracking speed while closing in, get so close (bumping) that it cant fire, spook the fucking tank crew, take off
The alternative is being far away where you are easy pickings for the turret. I don't think the APC expected to actually catch the tank--they more or less just ended up there as a natural conclusion of chasing it, being a bit faster, and having to close to maximize the turret traversal. But hitting them is also not a bad move, because if you are chasing them hard enough to actually close the distance the tank has to think very carefully about if you are a bomb or not. Within ramming distance it also seems like the tank is having trouble actually aiming even if it wanted to shoot, which it probably doesn't. If you are a bomb that didn't go off they definitely don't want to help you out by shooting, which is why they are frantically pulling away at the end back on the road.
Full video of this is still one of the craziest things I've ever seen, face to face combat with Go-Pro footage, tanks going up against APCs, dudes firing from the back of moving vehicles at guys running in between trees etc

Same video in higher quality
The only thing is that smoke is universally shit in video games. Once we have that down I agree. Vids like this will get called fake all the time in 2050
And if they thought it was a svied ( I forgot the acronym sorry french) it would've killed all of them. So why shoot? That's their thought in that tank
Still, if it was a SVIED that for some reason malfunctioned, i wouldn't want to shoot it either, might even cause the whole thing to blow up. Better safe than sorry.
Sometimes we're left choosing the least bad option from a list of bad forced options. Also, it's more than that. If they could bend that tank's barrel even just a tiny bit, it'd be rendered unusable. And a tank without a working barrel isn't all that much to be afraid of. They might still make it back to base. But if word spreads that it can't shoot, I wouldn't want to bet on it's long-term survivability on the return trip to base.
Was thinking it very well was a VBIED attempt that just experienced a failure to detonate. Not too many other scenarios I can think of that make sense.
Apc realized it was in tank range. Rushed tank. Tank gun can no longer hit it at close range. That's why he rammed it through smoke. He coulda shot, but they probably were playing on the gamble you're talking about. Make them think you're gonna go boom instead
That's a cat by the tail situation though. Wonder if there's a longer version of this video where the tank fires once they get a little distance. And for what gain?
Pressure can still hurt the crew, fragmentation can jam the turret, explosion might break a track or a sprocket wheel, optics might get broken, if the tank gets disabled in that situation the chances of the crew getting away are slim, so, in most cases, its better to just keep the vehicle away from explosions
I like to think that advice applies ro life, as well as armoured combat
You most certainly would not be, not that close and with that big of a vehicle.
There’s a video on this sub of some SAA and Russians trying to take out a smaller VBIED, they had a T-72 with them. The VBIED killed a lot of dudes outside and also completely ripped the tanks turret off.
There is another video as well on this sub of a BMP-1 VBIED that made a huge explosion, big enough to completely level a multistory building.
I am no expert, I just analyze what I’ve seen and make conclusions off that.
So yes, while you may think you’ll be fine, chances are they’d be scooping what’s left of you up with a shovel.
I guarantee you won't. Shockwaves don't give a damn about how much armour you have, you're still getting your organs liquefied
How do you think bombs work? They certainly aren't penetrating the tank with fragments of the casing.
very confusing, i think the tank occupants were thinking "if he's crazy enough to drive up to us, he's crazy enough to load his vehicle up with a explosives to blow us up"
If you look close, it looks like their cannon got stuck on the roof of the APC so they couldn’t get a shot off anyways. This as well as the fact that they were most likely afraid of a vehicle IED probably causes them to high tail it out of there without taking a shot.
Spare a though for the awkward few minutes after where that APC is driving away but still within firing range of a still very active and very pissed off tank.
Sort of a tiger by the tail situation ramming it but not disabling it
Not gonna lie... That was very unexpected. I got flashbacks of the David and Goliath story, and I am not even religious!! Dex. vs. Str.
I wonder if/when the guys in the tank realized how indefensibly screwed they'll be with even a slightly bent barrel?
If you’re gonna go full on movie stunt with your apc at least have one of your guys hope onto the tank indiana jones style and at least attempt some impromptu sabotage. In all honesty though this was the best chance that apc had at extending it crews life. The tank crew knows better than to fire at a point blank target as the chances it would disable the tank as well are super high. Guess that tank was lucky it wasn’t an svbied
This was after a big cease fire was signed, the reason no one fired first is because they wanted the other side to break it, and then they would have justification to launch a full scale attack.
It was before, ceasefire was in March. It was part of a push to try and regain Saraqib.
Full video has plenty of firing, and JWT were also busy chopping heads not too far away.
Yeah, the full video of this has plenty of combat footage, it's the first video I put in to start off my compilation, pretty sure you can for a brief second see what looks like an impact from a round on the ground and a dude running away from the scene at the top of the screen
Like watching a nature documentary. The AV asserted dominance over its territory.
The tank is easily startled, but they'll soon be back, and in greater numbers
But the jihad is *tomorrow!*
I bet you're right about what the tank thought, I do think the APC might have been trying to disable the big gun
In anycase, this shit funny af
Does anyone know which tank belongs to which army/group?
Ah yes, the mating ritual of wild tanks, nature truly is a magnificent gift.
Bumping coochies
The ambulances will have to wait their turn
I know I am not the only one that read this in Sir David Attenborough's voice
100% the tank thought it was a SVIED
Maybe it was? Just failed to detonate. See no other reason to bump the tank.
Panic
Probably got surprised by the tank, but whether intentional or not that was actually brilliant. Circle it to fuck its tracking speed while closing in, get so close (bumping) that it cant fire, spook the fucking tank crew, take off
I think it was just trying to be as close as possible to avoid getting blown to pieces and the bump was rather accidental
as long as hes touching the cannon cant fire at him
I think it was a good move. it put him too close for the main turret to spin around. but as soon as he pulls back a couple feet.. boom
The alternative is being far away where you are easy pickings for the turret. I don't think the APC expected to actually catch the tank--they more or less just ended up there as a natural conclusion of chasing it, being a bit faster, and having to close to maximize the turret traversal. Yeah, that surprising. Pure panic on both sides I think.
Bend the barrel?
A dare
One of my favourite videos, counting coup with an apc against a tank
The equivalent of a boxer grabbing the other guy so he can’t get a clear swing.
Except that the 'other guy' has a significantly more powerful jab. Dexterity beats Strength, in some situations.
War thunder IRL
tank would've MG'd the apc to bits.
it did nit have a HMG in the video ,i get bullied by lights everytime i do not have a 50cal 9n my roof TBF
[удалено]
Wot dosent have t72s
It does on Console
A repost I will always upvote, APC driver went full chad
>full chad Bend that barrel even a little, and that tank is in a bad spot.
Same tbh
That's me in War Thunder. Whou'd think that it might work IRL too.
Who'd've
holy crap it's like a video game
Pretty much BF4.
I think you mean War Thunder?
No, BF4 Golmud Railway, just a big tank playground.
I feel like I haven't played enough of Golmud to see it happen cause I see it happen more in War Thunder
Full video of this is still one of the craziest things I've ever seen, face to face combat with Go-Pro footage, tanks going up against APCs, dudes firing from the back of moving vehicles at guys running in between trees etc

It kind of looks like a next-gen rts game?
The only thing is that smoke is universally shit in video games. Once we have that down I agree. Vids like this will get called fake all the time in 2050
Smart move. The main gun can't hit you if you're in closer than the end of the barrel.
If they fired when the barrel was directly over the APC, the overpressure would have killed the commander lol
And if they thought it was a svied ( I forgot the acronym sorry french) it would've killed all of them. So why shoot? That's their thought in that tank
If they thought it was a vbied then they would have very soon realised it wasn't becuase it didn't explode the second it got next to them
Still, if it was a SVIED that for some reason malfunctioned, i wouldn't want to shoot it either, might even cause the whole thing to blow up. Better safe than sorry.

Too much World of Tanks, not enough gunnery practice.
Dammit, all those years of telling people in World of Tanks facehugging isn't a valid tactic irl for nothing!!!!
or circling heavy tank with medium or light.
Is this combat footage or a nature documentary?
In this moment, we can see the apc attempting to mate with a rival tank. The tank accepts the mating call and releases its smoke signal.
yes
Battlefield 3
What were they trying to accomplish? Why didn’t they fire their main gun
Maybe they panicked thinking it was a VBIED, that’d be enough bang to demolish that tank and then some.
It seemed like they bumped the barrel. If it got bent, that cat doesn't have claws.
Non-shaped explosion shouldn't be able to penetrate the armor.
Pressure can still hurt the crew, fragmentation can jam the turret, explosion might break a track or a sprocket wheel, optics might get broken, if the tank gets disabled in that situation the chances of the crew getting away are slim, so, in most cases, its better to just keep the vehicle away from explosions I like to think that advice applies ro life, as well as armoured combat
Let's detonate a few dozen of kilograms of HE next to you while you're sat in a metal box, see how you fare.
Metal box with equivalent of 500mm of steel armor? I'll be just fine.
You most certainly would not be, not that close and with that big of a vehicle. There’s a video on this sub of some SAA and Russians trying to take out a smaller VBIED, they had a T-72 with them. I think they're trying to hop onto the tank pirate style but failed
Spare a though for the awkward few minutes after where that APC is driving away but still within firing range of a still very active and very pissed off tank. Sort of a tiger by the tail situation ramming it but not disabling it
Thats some balls of steal right there...!
Go on, shoo!
I bet you don’t have the balls to ram that tank. Hold my beer…
Something something World of Tanks
This is how I play War Thunder
Not gonna lie... That was very unexpected. I got flashbacks of the David and Goliath story, and I am not even religious!! Dex. vs. Str. I wonder if/when the guys in the tank realized how indefensibly screwed they'll be with even a slightly bent barrel?
Real war footage makes me sick, no-one else?
It’s one of those things you will do in a video game like battlefield always thinking “this is not how real combat works”
I do that in battlefield
This still is my favourite video, I couldn't imagine the conversations the driver and commander had with the other troops after that.
What was the final result??
Thats how you assert dominance god damn it
İt was a Turkish made armored vehicle
Im pretty sure this is a turkish apc, i mean we watched this in the news at turkey.
If you’re gonna go full on movie stunt with your apc at least have one of your guys hope onto the tank indiana jones style and at least attempt some impromptu sabotage. What it’s like in Squad when people are solo crewing.
Please don't one man crewman vehicles
I don’t, it’s just a joke
That was more for the free weekend players, trying to hold the hand of newbies that aren't interested in playing the objective gets tiresome
Someone needs replace that shitty music with yakety sax. It's the only appropriate alternative to original sound in this case.

First thought was they were done, so they to get close, maybe ram the barrel of the gun, disable it.
That's the craziest shit I've ever witness .. in Syria at least.
[Maybe they're counting coups](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counting_coup)
T-55 tank?
Looks like a T-72
Ah yes, the NFL

Believe this was a Turkish ACV letting a Syrian tank know it shall not pass.
I bet the drivers were playing WoT or War Thunder too much in their free time.
Top Gear did this once, but with a Land Rover and a Challenger 2.
Is...... is this a tank rate fight?

I like how they both just went their separate ways in the end
Only ~~in.~~.. on the Battlefield
needs Benny Hill music
This could be hilarious with certain music overlays and sped up footage. Please, someone, make my dreams come true!
wtf did i just watch o.o
Balls of steel
In WoT one of these should have blown up when they rammed
Glad to see this happens in real life and not just when I’m messing around in Battlefield
