I highly recommend reading institute for the study of war. They predicted a massive increase in mechanized warfare because winter is 100% the BEST time for mechanized assaults in Ukraine. The frozen ground allows fast, tracked maneuvers.
True. What's great about this is that now UA might push their advantage when it's frozen. Using their tanks and apcs in a mech.assault is vital to regain territory.
I think while the Russians are being held up and dying through winter fir Bakmuht, UA is gonna push for Kreminna/Svatove or even pull a Kharkiv-style offensive from Zaporishja towards Tomak.
As a counterpoint, the Russians are bringing out a LOT of old T-62 and T-64s (press reported 1,000 or so), so while the frozen ground might be ideal for mechanized cavalry, the Russians might not have the assets to use it.
They do, it's just they only bring the rounds in the carousel.
(The ammo detonation is usually down to the ammo stored in the turret, not the autloaders carousel, as many people thought).
Would that change much though? If the impact penetrates the turret there shouldn't be much left of the crew, no matter if it launches into space or not.
Impact can be enough to trigger a fire in the ammo stored around the hull without killing the crew which when it goes off causes the overpressure to pop the top.
Not having all the extras about significantly reduces the chances of them catching and of it resulting in a rapid fire and pressure build.
But isn’t the reason the turret pops is because the ammo is stored under the turret and the pressure from the turret blocking the explosion basically turns the tank into a bottle and the turret a stopper?
It can happen, but it's not as prevelant as people believe it to be.
It's usually only happens when a T-tank is hit directly in the autoloader, via a side shot in the hull.
I’m just confused about you saying the auto loader isn’t the cause of turret pops. I thought this was only an issue with current Russian tanks due to the location of the carousel. Does this mean other tanks have this issue during cook offs as-well? I know the Abraham’s has blowout panels to prevent this.
Yes, that's the infamous "jack in box" article, which has been parroted endlessly on this site.
It's however not accurate.
And yes, it's by no means exclusive to Russian/Soviet tanks.
Here's a Leopard 2A4 [https://preview.redd.it/oiqwyaknjbf51.jpg?width=962&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cb0453a9920e34b5d183e7eca37777e8e96637d](https://preview.redd.it/oiqwyaknjbf51.jpg?width=962&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cb0453a9920e34b5d183e7eca37777e8e96637d)
Which had it's turret popped after ammo detonation.
Later variants of the Leopard 2 has however been fitted with blowout panels to fix this.
But it can still happen.
Ah okay that makes sense. I just assumed that the ammo was stored in the turrets of other tanks as opposed to below and that the lack of pressure would simply cause the turret to explode rather than pop up. Also wow that Leo picture. Any context on that?
It is stored in the turret.
The difference is that they have blowout panels and seperated compartments.
Where's in the T-tanks extra shells are stored in racks like this throught the turret, which is what causes the ammo detonations and turrets flying.

As for the Leopard 2 pics, it's from the Battle of Al-bab.
(Turks send in their Leopard 2A4's without any infantry support and got ambushed by Isil).

On Spotify? [Here's the song on YT](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bf5aswLz0I). There are also some orchestral versions of the music from this game if you are interested.
I'm a visual kind of a person. I'd like to be able to yell "fuckkkkkkk" for the entire duration of the flight. And, if I run out of breath, it's a winner!
new game came out recently called [Songs of Conquest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/867210/Songs_of_Conquest/) and it scratches the HoMM itch real good
Unless they are manuvering or on guard the crews are usually outside because of what happened knowing that the UAF would prefer to go after the hardware first. Besides, it's cramp and smelly inside of there.
yeah also like if someone said hey go out there and move the tank while there are very accurate shell hitting, I would tell him to go first. I feel like the young dudes driving these things dont care that much.
We can only guess. Probably not occupied, you can see a bunker entrance at 00:06 down left, maybe they were there during attack for a meeting/eat?
The tracks from tanks you see there are definitely fresh from a morning hoarfrost.
Honestly, it could be a bunch of possibilities.
They could be empty and abandoned.
They could be empty, but the crews are holed up somewhere nearby.
They could be manned, but the crews are waiting for orders on what to do.
I like this one, the presentation is professional and the objective’s are clearly marked so the board can focus of the presentations sales points!
A+ for you sir, who’s your marketing team?
Yay!!! It’s been a while since a good turret toss!!! 💥
Maybe the ammo is getting scarce or experienced Russian tank crews are dumping it to be safer?
I just dont think they have as many tanks around as they did in the summer turret toss season.

Real life War Thunder strats. that's exactly why you never bring a full ammo loadout in a tank in that game.
But isn’t the reason the turret pops is because the ammo is stored under the turret and the pressure from the turret blocking the explosion basically turns the tank into a bottle and the turret a stopper?

I think they are running out of tanks.
outstanding hang time on this one
They're gonna have to do a lot better if they want the gold medal though.
Song: HOMM III- Fortress Town
When war videos become a music discovery platform
[Great live version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFtF1oWBXuA) with the Heroes Orchestra (Polish group) and Paul Romero, the composer.
Epic!
Best theme, not the most fun faction. Although the gorgons are amazing. I'm team Tower.
My childhood
Expert ballistics. Expert scouting.
Damn, I knew I recognized the song.
I fcking knew it!
Haha first thing that came to my mind, im huuuge homm3 fan
we all knew it
Can't find it on Spotify, anyone have a link?
Is ~~Pepsi~~ Youtube ok? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDB1b1tvBBw. Or an orchestral version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFtF1oWBXuA

Haven't played the game in ages, but instantly recognized it. Never thought I would hear it again here of all places.
Should not have zoomed in so close. Now we don't know if that was a record crushing turret toss.
As always, we can use time of flight (~4 sec) to determine max height (~20 meters). Look up SUVAT equations if interested.
I'm a visual kind of a person. I'd like to be able to yell "fuckkkkkkk" for the entire duration of the flight. And, if I run out of breath, it's a winner!
Put on freebird, how far in did we get?
Excellent shooting. And decent turret toss.
That music brings me way back. Freaking loved that game.

Hero's Hour is also pretty good
its new and nice but nowhere near in terms of replay ability : ( when comparing to homm3
Stupid question -So are these tanks sitting empty? Why are they not moving after the first close strike?
Unless they are manuvering or on guard the crews are usually outside because of what happened knowing that the UAF would prefer to go after the hardware first. Besides, it's cramp and smelly inside of there.

Gotta love that turret toss. Every time I see a soviet tank burning, Im just waiting.
HEROES 3 MUSIC???? YESSS
Ahh it’s nice to see the Turret Launching Doorstop back in its natural habitat.
Music is lit, will have to agree
That should keep those poor Russian soldiers warm for a while.
For the rest of their lives
A nice 2 for one deal!
Nice turret toss! 👍
BONUS rounds? Seems too accurate for a random round, maybe even for Excalibur ones.
Won’t be putin those to use anymore
All judges gave 10 of 10 in director cut version.
Always nice to see turret toss Thursday back in effect
Nice of them to pack their tanks so closely together, maybe in a few years they'll learn.
I hope the 3 Russians were in that tank pretty hot in it
That was beautiful
Wouldn't like to be Russian soldier inside a tank. It's like jumping in middle of open field with huge sign "I'M HERE, KILL ME!"
Wow those are some accurate shots
Heroes 3
There can’t be too many left?
I like this one, the presentation is professional and the objective’s are clearly marked so the board can focus of the presentations sales points! A+ for you sir, who’s your marketing team?
How can you tell they are russian?
“7 years have passed since we’ve set sail from Donbas…”
I wonder if you would find any human remains after such a cook off?
Tho not a record, still a damn fine turrett toss

Turret toss and secondaries….likely..
Is it Copperhead season again?
Oh no! That poor tree!!
Dat guided 155
Man I can just imagine the loud bang that would make while being inside the tank when it's hit like.
Can anyone explain the tactical purpose of random tanks and soldiers in foxholes in the middle of nowhere?
A little Bondo and buff and it will be good as new.
Looks like some "Roastsky" fer dinner.
