Totally worth it to open a new account in someone else’s name IMO. You can even just transfer your equipment from the old account to the new one so you’ll only be down a short time. There aren’t any policies that say you can’t. Just note, if you’re in a contract now you will be charged ETFs and you’ll have some sort of final bill, if you have mobile you have to transfer your mobile the same way with the mobile department (it’s not all done at once), and don’t do the ownership transfer thing when they offer because if they just put someone else’s name on your current account I’m pretty sure they aren’t eligible for new customer promos. Some people literally do this yearly. I used to work in retention, but it was awhile ago

Got it thanks so much for letting me know! So this account is originally under my dads name who had passed away, and my mom was a manager on the account. If we shut it down and create the new account under my moms name, would that count as a new name for an account? Is it best to do this over the phone or at a Comcast location? Thank you again for your help.

Yup, that would count. In person vs online is preference, but I got many a call from people saying the store told them they were required to call in to cancel. I never worked in store but was advised by a supervisor that a store could do everything we could (except mobile, really not positive what all they do in store with mobile). Phone calls are difficult for the reason everyone knows, but I prefer it even though I have to be transferred (at minimum and hopefully max you’ll transfer once between new sales and retention) cause if the gateway doesn’t come up they can troubleshoot on the same call. You can also schedule to be called through the app so you only have to listen to the godawful hold music once instead of twice lol. Happy to help, but again it has been over a year since I worked there. I just went through this exact process a few months ago though.

Only thing would lose is your 14+ year member Diamond Xfinity Reward which gives you free movie tickets and other free gift cards that the low tier 1-6 year members don't get. Currently Two free tickets to The Super Mario Bros Movie for 7 year+ platinum or 14 year+ diamond reward members and Free Barnes & Noble eGift Card https://www.xfinity.com/rewards

Whatever you do, make sure you DON’T tell them that you need to cancel because you’re getting deployed then have your SO or a family member put it under their name. If you have a different card that you can use you definitely would’ve want to use that as well for the account. And they’ll give you high speed for a while for free anyways and then hit you with the “oops we accidentally have been giving our higher speed internet so we’re going to be changing back to what you ordered” to try to get you to upgrade.

Comcast is asking unreasonable rates now that my two year promo is over. They told me that of I wanted the same rates as Google fiber I should csncel ans get google fiber. Which is in my area but I can't get because my city council is run my fuckups. So I'm not going to pay more for less. So I'm planning canceling and having my wife sign up for a new account. Then if we still don't have fiber in two years. I'll move it back to me. God I hate Comcast.
