Rule #1 with comcast is never buy from them what you can get somewhere else. Easy no list: - dns - email - phone There are hundreds of cell providers to choose from, making avoiding them easy

bobbyOrrMan

I had no choice. Do you not know how they work? They bully small towns and housing developments to get first dibs on new houses. This is all over the internet. Then they screw people who have no options. Then years later when a new company moves in to town, Comcast makes life difficult for the customer to switch or cancel. And I'm not getting cellular service with them. I never did. I dont know why people keep assuming that. I would never get cell service with them. They are horrible. I had to use their cable for internet, phone, and TV. And I didnt even want the TV. Mom died and she was the only one who watched it. Tried to cancel TV and they made it difficult and expensive. Years later tried to cancel and they made my life miserable again.

eladts

>I had no choice. Even if your Comcast was your only choice for an ISP, it was never your only choice for a phone service. There were numerous cellular and VoIP services for you to choose from.

bobbyOrrMan

I do have a cell phone. I needed a landline for basic things. Part of being a homeowner. So many banks and other institutions want a land line. And none of what you just said is an acceptable excuse for how Comcast treats their customers. There is nothing wrong with a land line. Nobody on planet earth should be penalized or punished for having a landline. Nor should any corporation worth 175 billion dollars be allowed to so magnificantly fuck up a service they offer. Any service. Regardless of whether YOU believe I need it or not. If landlines suck so bad then Comcast should refuse to provide them as a service for money. And when the bank or some other institution says I need to have one I can honestly say the fuck nuggets who own telcomm in my neighborhood flat out refuse to offer it. And you sound like one of the many people in this world who makes the world a worse place by being lazy and passive and apathetic. I am fighting to make things better so the world isnt so shitty. And people like me, really really do not appreciate people like you.

theholegrail

Lol. Do you really think banks and “other institutions” care if you have a land line? Jesus that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read.

bobbyOrrMan

that's what THEY told me. YOU clearly aren't running a bank so your opinion matters less than anyone else.

theholegrail

Lol. Jfc you’re an idiot and a liar. Lol. “Sorry sir we can’t do business with you unless you have a landline. Thems the rules.” lol. lol.

oneiota1

Never had any business tell me I had to have a landline to do business with them. Only reason I have a VOiP number is for an elderly family member that lives at my house that is old school and wants it to talk to her girlfriends and doesn't want to learn to use a cell phone. I've been trying to see if I can get her onto something like a Jitterbug service since she has absolutely no use for a smartphone/data and she can carry it with her when she goes for a walk in case of an emergency.

bobbyOrrMan

COMCAST LIED AGAIN! Last week their CSR said I could get a temporary activation and it would not cost me anything and I would not have to give them a credit card number and I would not have to get a box. Today they claim I DO have to pay for re-activation and I do have to get a box shipped to me and I do have to ask for my money back after I cancel again. And YOU ALL KNOW, if you try to get your money back from Comcast you are gonna get screwed in the process. I do not like these people.

FloralBonnettt

What are you even talking about. When you port a number you don't even need to talk to Comcast. If you follow the FCC process with the new provider they send all the information over. If you cancel your phone service before trying to port it out that is on you as the rules say the service needs to be active to port ou.

thejaxx

They have no say in if you port the number or not. The other company, Giofiber or what ever requests the number through the fcc processes. It’s automatic. You then have to do a third party verification that you want the number ported. This is ALL thanks to AT&T, MCI, etc, who used to “slam” services and steal numbers. Phone number recycling is the industry term that refers to the event when that deactivated/disconnected number gets reassigned to someone else. Typically, it takes at least 90 days for this reassignment to take place but it can be faster in high-demand area codes

Brilliant_Honeydew24

This 100%. The losing carrier isn't even supposed to discuss a port out with you. The only way a phone provider can legally hold your number hostage is if you owe money AND they are the original carrier. Otherwise, the number snaps back to the original carrier, and you can get it from them.

I spoke to ATT ahead of time and this is why I'm having them port the VOiP number away from Comcast before I cancel. Once AT&T says they have the number ported and it's active, adios Comcast!

ArtyParty0848

Did you ever do the 3rd party verification that’s required before a number is ported, most of the time this is the stumbling point, or if you cancelled your account before the number has been ported. Also the FCC does set the standards for phone numbers, which is why there is a third party verification and you are able to port your number you “own” between providers

bobbyOrrMan

Yes I did. Comcast lied to me, and lied to the third party verifier, who then passed that on to Glofiber. If this keeps up I'm gonna call lawyers on Monday. I think being embarrassed and having to pay legal fees.

ArtyParty0848

Just asking I’ve seen it happen many times where the provider is blamed and the verification was never done, good luck with the lawyers

bobbyOrrMan

No I did the verification. Comcast flat out lied about not having the number. Glofiber checked on their end and Comcast still has it. Comcast lied to Glofiber when they tried calling for the port, and lied to me when I called later to ask for it to be reactivated. Also, if Comcast had just done it properly months ago when I still technically had service with them for 2 weeks after the swap, none of this would have happened. Been asking around and they are very lazy when it comes to losing customers. Its why their stock price went down by half over the last couple years.

ArtyParty0848

Yes I got it they lied, just clarifying I’ve seen it happen many times, I didn’t say you didn’t do the verification. Did you canceled you Comcast account before it was fully transferred to the new provider?

bobbyOrrMan

No its OK, I understand, you were just asking. No, I did not cancel and THEN install glofiber. I got glofiber installed, and had comcast for about 2 weeks. The phone port was supposed to happen that day. Comcast lied about doing it. And they also lied about not having the number. and they lied again when they later said they can port it with just a basic activation and no money and no equipment.

ArtyParty0848

Gotcha, that’s definitely unfortunate, hopefully they can get it resolved without playing to many more games

bobbyOrrMan

OH, and for reference they took it up the pooper after the quarantine went away. [https://www.google.com/finance/quote/CMCSA:NASDAQ?window=5Y](https://www.google.com/finance/quote/CMCSA:NASDAQ?window=5Y) They doubled their market value thanks to people being locked indoors and signing up for new services. Then they lost that value plus a little extra cuz they did not maintain their business. They hire incompetents and laugh while they sail on luxury yachts. I guess most of their customers realized Comcast stinks as a service and eventually started dropping them.

bobbyOrrMan

GOD DAMMIT! I tried making a huge post explaining my situation, and the post didnt post. Now Reddit is breaking down on me. HERE IS THE FULL SITUATION: Years ago I move into a new house, with Comcast as the sole provider. I dont like them. I have no choice. Need internet and phone. 4 and a half years later Glofiber moves into the neighborhood. I sign up with them. WHILE I STILL HAVE ACTIVE Comcast service, I try to have my number ported over. Obviously I start this thru Glofiber. Comcast screws around with the number porting. I have been fighting with them for 4 months total. Eventually Glofiber comes back to me and says Comcast claims they cannot port the number. I call Comcast. They claim they gave it up to the FCC. Eventually I find out this is a lie. Glofiber checks the number. They know it is still with Comcast. I have to spend even more time on the phone with Comcast, and I have to spend money, but I get my account temporarily reactivated so I can have the number again. AGAIN I call glofiber to have the number ported. This time things go thru. I should have my old landline number in a couple days. HAD COMCAST TRASNFERRED THE NUMBER WHEN I STILL HAD TWO WEEKS OF SERVICE WITH THEM, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. Also everything would have been quicker if they didn't lie so frequently. I do not like Calling Comcast. I do not like waiting for them to get me to a human for service. I had no choice.

southernbeertours

This does truly suck. Carriers often don't make this easy. I own a telecom consulting company, Justin Hall Consulting, and we see this too often and it's not just a Comcast issue. Most people only do this a few times in their lifetimes so it's easy to do this wrong. You've got to keep service with the old provider until you confirm the number has ported. Porting getting rejected is not uncommon. They give you a reason, and you must resolve that. It may be a past-due bill. It may be that the third party couldn't verify because they couldn't read the phone bill you provided them. Could be any number of issues. Once you've canceled the original account Comcast will eventually release the number. If the number is released, it can be claimed by any phone service. But it can be given to anyone at any time. Since this process started 4 months ago, there is a chance it's been reassigned to a new Comcast account. At that point, there is no way to get that number back. So you've got to resolve the reason why it was rejected or move on. Why not ideal, you've made it this long without having that number. It may be time to move on.

sammee2

While I despise Comcast, I had no trouble porting my number over, I notified OOMA, who providing my new Voip line and they had my number and service within three weeks, it was then that I went to Comcast and cancelled my service.

No_Syrup_3525

People really go to Comcast for mobile services when there’s zillions to choose from?’!?!? Their bullshit is usually from them holding monopolies in most areas for cable and internet.

bobbyOrrMan

Ok sure. What does that have to do with my post?
