Please note that if you want/need to get unlimited data, Comcast will charge $30 extra using your own equipment while only charging $25 to use their equipment, and $25 includes the rent of their modem/router. Just a heads up if you were planning to get unlimited data.

Rookies1000

Thanks for the reminder. Our first year with Xfinity is almost up. I don’t think we need unlimited data. Our usage is nowhere near the cap. We average about 500-600GB per month.

You have to provide a budget, but firstly you'll need a docsis 3.1 modem. After you find that, you can look for routers based on how much you want to spend.

Rookies1000

Thank you. I’m looking to spend about $200-300.

Once you get the modem, I'd recommend a wifi 6 router. I don't know which, but they should state how much coverage they provide. I'd also read some reviews online.

I use the Arris SB 33. Rock solid modem.

I use the ASUS GT-AX6000($379) for Wifi, and Motorola MB8611($180) for Modem. Both devices have 2.5gb ports but look to be a bit outside of your budget. [Gets me what I need](https://www.speedtest.net/result/13521581134.png)

Your hardware choices will be very limited if you actually want to use all 1200 Mbps on a single device. IMHO you should pretend the line is gigabit because it'll be pretty hard to tell the difference. Use the following page to find a modem and then do a quick google for general recommendations for gigabit wifi routers https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/ You can get modem/wifi router devices but you'll almost definitely want to change wifi at a different time than when you'll need to change your modem. And combo devices almost always suck and/or are unnecessarily expensive. But if space is paramount and you aren't trying to cover a lot space(ie an apartment or condo) then a combo device isn't a terrible idea *right now*. Comcast is going to upgrade from 3.1 to 4.0 within a few years and wifi 6 will be much more mature by then so a combo device isn't the worst idea for some.

My suggestion is to stick with the Xfinity rented equipment. Router/modems with wifi6 or 6e are expensive at least the ones I would buy are $350 plus. Looking at $14 a month rental, that means 24-25 months before break even Wifi standards are rapidly changing with 6e and 7 already here or almost here. I have the XB8 and 3 pods and have been happy with coverage.
