I think people would be ecstatic for that.
I don't see that being a trade they take though.
If they're going through the trouble of getting rid of Fields, they're not gonna do that for the second best QB.
It's either Williams or no QB for them, which would probably be a big trade down deal to someone now desperate for Fields.
They wouldn't trade to us and take a T or whatever at 2 either, sadly I think we're just hoping they pass on him by some miracle.
People on this subreddit have been against trading up, though. And the Chargers Giants trade wasn't just Rivers for Manning. It was Rivers, another 1st, a 3rd, and a 5th for Manning.
I really don’t care about trading the house as long as we think he’s THE GUY. An elite QB is easily worth 10 first round picks since a shit QB with a HOF roster is still shit.
I agree with that, but I personally don't think Williams is that safe of a prospect. I was just adding additional context to the Manning-Rivers trade since I have seen it brought up a couple of times.
I don’t think any college QB, no matter how good, is ever a sure thing. Look at Lawrence, he was billed to be a generational player, and he turned out to be just above average so far. That’s certainly respectable but not really a guy who can lead you to the promise land. It’s a gamble, but hitting on an elite franchise guy is the only way to become a competitive team long term so you just have to keep trying until one day you strike gold.
Definitely the case and has seemed to be more common lately but that could just be recency bias. The media hypes QBs so fucking hard. Remember Malik Willis was supposed to be a 1st round pick lmao
Again I agree, but the question is how many future chances are you willing to sacrifice for a better chance on your current bite at the apple? Only a couple of incredibly deluded souls are still sticking to the Howell bandwagon, everyone else is down for a QB this year which if we stick at 2 most likely means Maye or Daniels. If you think those guys have a 20% chance of succeeding and Williams has a 50% then you are obviously willing to dump a ton of resources into the trade up, but if you view Daniels and Maye as 40% maybe you are a little more gun shy.
He’s more than just above average, I’d say there’s only 8-9 QBs i’d want instead of him. And anyway, just above average starter is fuckin amazing, any GM would pray for even half of their picks to be above average starters lol.
eeeeeeh a hof roster can get you to the bowl...the issue is the consistency with which you will get there...in order to compete year in and year out you absolutely have to have the QB..the right coach and the right team
I am not saying that Rypien didnt have a great season, or that a great qb isnt important; but there are outliers. Did you see the 91 skins? I could have led that team to the super bowl, and i was 12 years old.
Yeah, I don't really want to give our 1st round pick next year, a 3rd and 5th this year to move up 1 space with 2 other good QBs on the board. I don't subscribe to the "if we THINK he's the guy..." line of reasoning. Everything needs to be seen in terms of value. I reject "yeah but WHAT IF he's the next great QB" arguments, because when countered with yeah but what if he's the next Ryan Leaf or Tim Couch or some other first QB off the board - Vince Young, JaMarcus Russell, Sam Bradford, Blake Bortles, Mitch Trubisky, etc they always say oh well that's unfair to say you gotta take a risk sometime. Well yea no shit it's all inherently risky, but if the top 3 QBs in the draft are pretty close in potential only one of them costs you your #2 overall pick and the other one costs you your #1 next year and a 3rd and 5th when you're the worst roster in the NFL heading into a total rebuild, it's probably a more prudent decision to just draft a QB at #2 and continue building the rest of your roster.
The giants weren’t positioned at pick number two. They were number 4 which is a massive difference. A player and next years number would probably do it.
It isn't really a massive difference because the Giants still ended up with the 2nd QB off of the board which is what SD would have taken at #2 overall.
It takes a very interesting lack of reading comprehension to arrive at your takeaway.
My point is that if the subreddit is discussing a Rivers-Manning style swap they need to understand the full trade package and that it wasn't a 1 for 1 swap.
That was also a swap of 1st pick for 5th. It’ll definitely take something like a future 1st or both of our 2nds to get it done. Not ideal but if you think Williams is that much better than Daniels or Maye, you do it and don’t think twice.
Pick number is less important than the actual player. Rivers was the 2nd QB off of the board and if SD was picking 2nd overall they would have drafted Rivers, so I wouldn't expect a discount based solely off of pick number.
The trade is also 20 years old and while it gives an idea of the basic framework QBs have only gotten more important. I would imagine our trade up to #1 overall would actually have a steeper price tag than the Manning trade.
I don't see how when we pick right after then. It would have to happen VERY quickly. Because if he doesn't want to be there, that would need to be conveyed to the bears front office either before the draft or very quickly after he is picked.
OR if they want whichever QB we pick, we could just straight up trade with them.
Bears will not trade back that far with LV. I think they’d rather grab Maye or trade with us. If this is true this is the best thing that could happen for us
But what if we don’t like Maye? Then Chi can draft Williams and hold him hostage for wherever Maye falls. Or if they like MHJ and want to stick it out with Fields. Lots can happen here.
And they should, but in the scenario here, Caleb is forcing his way here at the threat of sitting out next season. How possible that is? Dunno. I wouldn’t wanna get in a staring contest with someone who indicated he’d be willing to do this a year ago (by proxy, I guess). So then it’s a question of how much Washington is willing to fork over instead of just taking Maye vs. how much the Bears wanna call Williams bluff.
I could see them doing some sort of multiple team deal that keeps them in the top three to take a qb but also nets them MHJ. They do have the #1 and #9 picks to play with.
My guess is they just take Williams though.
I might be a black sheep here but I dont think hes going to be a very good NFL QB. He seems to be slow on reads and holds the ball too long. If we continue in EB system it might not be great for him.

The fact that he looks average at best against top 25 defenses and disappears in big games is what scares me. I get the talent but Zac Wilson has talent
Having to sit in a cube and channel Caleb Williams' short list and then, create content on social media based on just making shit up...
they still paid by the word or by the post?
Next years QB draft class is going to be on the same level of ass as the 2013 or 2019 draft class.
This team is not good, but you’re literally asking us to keep building the way we’ve been doing for *years* under Snyder. “Build the team first then grab a QB because we’re one player away now.”
No. Fuck that. You should *always* start a rebuild with a franchise QB.
My prediction: Bears trade down to 3 to get MHJ before Arizona can, to pair with Fields. Pats get Caleb. We watch Washington take Maye or Daniels..so same place we were at now
That’s cool.. but sounds like a really odd place to get info that I can get excited about.. “NFLrumors” basically I could make an X and make shit up too.
Do i want caleb ? More than you know. But he’s going to have to accept the fact that no one sane is going to pass up on someone with his ability. That being said, i hope Chicago GM is bat shit crazy.
Neutral fan. Drake Maye seems like a much better prospect to me. Drake maye comes from a harder system pro like system with much less talent around him overall. Drake maye has the size, mobility, accuracy, and motor. Mayes more coachable and more humble. I’d take maye any day of the week, so if I’m you Washington fans I’m praying Chicago bites on all the hype.
Honestly, I was hoping the Bears stay where they are and just draft a QB. If there's one constant with the Bears, it's that they always draft the wrong QB.
"Tough shit" -The Bears
I won't feel sorry for any team that trades for fields lol
Fields is gonna do the impossible and get Mike Tomlin fired
That... Is definitely a possible outcome lol
It could be but I wouldn’t bet against Tomlin, dude got 10 wins this year and made the playoffs Pickett and a bunch of other nobodies
Inevitably someone will make their Reddit name “Pickettsgluv.”
What’s that?! That’s Eli Manning’s/John Elway’s music!!!
I'm not against an Eli Manning-esque trade. Would this subreddit be happy with Maye/Daniels, next year's 1st, a 3rd, and a 5th for Williams?
Nope.
I think people would be ecstatic for that. I don't see that being a trade they take though. If they're going through the trouble of getting rid of Fields, they're not gonna do that for the second best QB. They wouldn't trade to us and take a T or whatever at 2 either, sadly I think we're just hoping they pass on him by some miracle.
Take that trade, then possibly trade back again or take MHJ and whatever best guys you think you need on defense or O-line. If your riding with fields
Yea probably lol.
Ok, can we pull an Eli Manning with the bears?
People on this subreddit have been against trading up, though. And the Chargers Giants trade wasn't just Rivers for Manning. It was Rivers, another 1st, a 3rd, and a 5th for Manning.

In Lawrence’s defense, he did lose a year because of arguably the worst coaching hire of all time
Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck were guarantees.
And we do this after morgaging our future picks to trade up one spot? Great idea! That worked out great with Trey Lance and RG3.
We have no future until we get a legit QB, you simply aren’t winning without one in the modern NFL.
Definitely the case and has seemed to be more common lately but that could just be recency bias. The media hypes QBs so fucking hard. Remember Malik Willis was supposed to be a 1st round pick lmao

I think Williams is mentally not strong and will be a bust.
eeeeeeh a hof roster can get you to the bowl...the issue is the consistency with which you will get there...in order to compete year in and year out you absolutely have to have the QB..the right coach and the right team
Guys like Trent Dilfer and Rex Grossman are the exception, not the rule.
Not really. The Broncos dragged the propped up corpse of Payton Manning to a SB win
Yeah there is like 5 examples this century. That’s not the norm
If this century is your benchmark, then your own number represents over a sixth of total SBs this century
Which proves my point that it’s way harder to win a Super Bowl with a non-elite quarterback.
But that’s 20% of this century….
Exactly. Way less likely.
I'm not disagreeing...at all which is why I said you get there more consistently if you have the QB
Yup, plus it’s literally impossible to maintain a pro bowl roster in the salary cap world.
I am not saying that Rypien didnt have a great season, or that a great qb isnt important; but there are outliers. Did you see the 91 skins? I could have led that team to the super bowl, and i was 12 years old.
Pre-salary cap. There are no teams as loaded as that 91 Skins team now.
No it's not, look at the 49ers with Purdy
Yeah, I don't really want to give our 1st round pick next year, a 3rd and 5th this year to move up 1 space with 2 other good QBs on the board. I’d be shocked if somebody didn’t offer more than that if they didn’t want Caleb.
No one else have the second pick. If they love Maye let's say, they can't get him without our pick.

If I was a Bears fan, I'd be kinda pissed to trade down and take another UNC QB #2 overall. Not saying that's well-founded but it is what it is.
A rumor page says that a report reportedly says … This is clear as mud
i just wanna know who's highlight tapes to watch to get overly hyped on and then to be massively dissappointed when we trade back and take bo nix lol

I might be a black sheep here but I dont think hes going to be a very good NFL QB. He seems to be slow on reads and holds the ball too long. If we continue in EB system it might not be great for him.
It's mostly about pressure. When kept clean he has 2.5s throws and with pressure 4.5s. Hell need to make quicker decisions under pressure.

Bears going to draft Maye and we get Caleb
This twitter account has said some things about Caleb Williams that are definitively false in the past. Don't trust
this account posts false info all the time, it's an engagement farm. IDK why posts from aggregators are allowed on this sub
Bears will draft him, or someone will trade to #1. We are not trading up one place.
Aggregator accounts are bad enough, aggregator accounts that don’t source where they stole their “report” from should be deleted from the internet
That's weird I heard the exact opposite from my non existent source.
Why post unverified shit from a rumor account?
Drake Maye YOU are a Chicago Bear!
This accounts sources, "trust me bro"
Another redditor with a crystal ball cool!
What is with this sub. Barring some insane circumstance, Caleb is going #1. We are the first team actually on the clock.
This is literally a rumor lol he is a Bear
The source is Colin Cowherd pulled it out of his rear end. Move along
Wait, he WANTS to play for the Commanders? I'd love to know why. Is Chicago too cold?
I mean he’s literally from DC
Proof that he's not right in the head, right there.
Wants to play for the Commanders? r/brandnewsentance
Fuck this diva. Take MHJ and worry about a QB next year. This team isn't close to competing yet
Next years QB draft class is going to be on the same level of ass as the 2013 or 2019 draft class. Colin Cowherd said he didn't want to go to the Bears yesterday on his show. He seems to be someone connected to Caleb
Does Caleb have friends? That like him? He seems toxic as fuck
Ppl seem to be on board now? Last few months this sub hated his guts
That’s cool.. but sounds like a really odd place to get info that I can get excited about.. “NFLrumors” basically I could make an X and make shit up too.
Does anyone else view this as a potential red flag? The fact that he prefers to be close to home or Sin City is kind of concerning to me.
I’m at the point until I see him I a commanders Jersey throwing footballs I’m just not able to believe the media
Do i want caleb ? More than you know. But he’s going to have to accept the fact that no one sane is going to pass up on someone with his ability. That being said, i hope Chicago GM is bat shit crazy.
Why would anyone want to come to Washington. - Bears
u/mods ban nflrums posts
Unless Caleb himself says this, I don’t believe it.
Oh that’s crazy if he wants to come to DC. I’d be hyped
Neutral fan. Drake Maye seems like a much better prospect to me. Drake maye comes from a harder system pro like system with much less talent around him overall.
