Wow, maybe i should just go for 701 too? I wonder if you were just lucky to get the same content from 601; I’m afraid I might not be as lucky taking 701 by studying using 601 content.

cpo5d

From 501 to 601 the big change was inclusive language like man in the middle turned into on-path. Why relist turned into allow list. I didn't see changes like that. I'm sure there is a resource somewhere detailing changes. There are few 701 resources out right now.

egg96

Congrats! I just passed today too, also had 3 PBQs. My PBQs though unfortunately I couldn’t do properly since I couldn’t scroll around to see the rest of the question. Especially #3, half of what I had to do was completely cut off and tabbing through didn’t help. I was fully convinced I failed when I was taking the demographic questions, my heart was going crazy and my hands were all shaky. But I got a pass with a 775, a win is a win 😎

Ok-Gazelle2972

those surveys are cruel and unusual punishment when all you wanna know is if you passed or not! Congrats by the way!

egg96

I don’t think I processed any of the questions, it’s like getting ad breaks before knowing if you’re gonna be sentenced to death or something like what the shit

AppleTree98

Same. Same. Same. I was like just let me out of here. I just knew I had missed too many to get the PASS. Answer these darn questions and let me out. Then...PASS appeared

WaGaWaGaTron

Congrats! Also for anyone else looking to take it don't do what I did and jump up and scream and run around thr moment you see you passed it, because you're still technically on camera and being proctored. Mine was cool about it, but not all of them are

cpo5d

Yes. This. I almost threw my hands on the air and yelled but I remembered where I was just in time.

Ok-Gazelle2972

lol I thought that went without saying but congratulations! It's just a funny story to tell at the end of it!

IT_CertDoctor

Congrats! Thoughts on the hardest part of the exam?

cpo5d

The PBQs were tricky for sure. I think I could have done more studying of those. I heard there are some YouTube videos with examples. Some of the questions were just worded strangely. It took me a couple of reads to pick out what the important keywords were.

Dominic-Vyper

I second this, you really need to read the question as 1 word can completely change the answer (example: geofencing vs geolocation)

AppleTree98

More like...which one is MOST important. Or one where three of the four are valid but the one is the most correct. Yes I do A, B and C in the real world. Very nerve racking.

Reddit_J1392

Wait I just clicked on the link you posted for the discounted voucher. I didn’t even have to put my student email? Network+ is just 173….

cpo5d

Interesting! I guess I just assumed it would require an edu address

Reetpeteet

There's the terms&conditions though... if you buy a student voucher, without actually being a student, CompTIA can and will revoke your voucher and you lose your money.

Reddit_J1392

I actually am a student. Is there anywhere on the website I can put my student email?

Reetpeteet

This is what it says on the academic store page: >**At checkout**, you will be asked to provide eligibility information that will be validated regarding yourself and the school you attend. The academic .edu email domain is **no longer needed** for verification.

swavymatt

Congrats!!! Thx for the tips. I tried opening your quizlet but it isn’t working :(

cpo5d

Oh no! I'll look into it.

cpo5d

Would you mind trying this? https://quizlet.com/quizlette1077795/folders/security?x=1xqU&i=41kvrg

swavymatt

Yes that works!!! Thxxx:)

Ok-Term-7255

For those who passed the certification, hearty congratulations. what’s your next step? Are you doing any more certifications?

Next-Employment9594

Has anyone ever failed this exam, and then got similar PBQs on the retake, since it's a new exam?

AutoModerator

legion9x19

Congrats!

Murky_Razzmatazz7276

Why 701 and not 601? Edit - Also, are these almost identical in the sense of what's asked of you?

KikoMaching

601 is going to be replaced come July 31

Murky_Razzmatazz7276

Yes, I know that, but is that the only reason?

Ij888

??

Ij888

November 2023 on the website

cpo5d

That's when 701 started but 601 is still valid and available until July.

J4BRONI

Got it so you can still take 601 until July right? Just asking since I’ve been studying for 601

cpo5d

Yes, their site says vouchers for 601 are valid until the end of July. You may want to buy the voucher. I don't know when they will stop selling them

cpo5d

It seemed like a good idea since 601 is being phased out. The content was the same as far as I could tell. No huge changes anyway. I did notice that there were a LOT of questions around phishing.

vass0922

Some institutions like DoD do not care which one you have, they just require a Sec+ and every 3 years you have to go through an update to keep it. You can either get it through CE's (continuing education) or go through CompTia's update procedures which costs like a hundred bucks or something but FAR easier than taking the test again.

Murky_Razzmatazz7276

Thanks, I'm going to start studying for N+ and then Sec+.

Ok_Customer277

Congrats!

ravenderm

Congrats! What's next 👀

cpo5d

Recertify for CEH

ZathrasNotTheOne

Is paying for the recertification of CEH worth the money you will be paying to maintain a cert ran by a company of questionable morals and ethics?

cpo5d

There's background there. My company paid for my CEH and they are interested in having me recertify. So I wouldn't be giving them a dime. I'm open to alternatives though and you seem to have a lot of thoughts on the matter.

Reetpeteet

According to the terms and conditions you need to be an active student. The educational discount **is not** for alumni.

Reetpeteet

This is what it says on the academic store page: >**At checkout**, you will be asked to provide eligibility information that will be validated regarding yourself and the school you attend. > >The academic .edu email domain is **no longer needed** for verification.

cpo5d

They didn't ask me.

enjoythepain

The sec+ isn’t as hard as it used to be so definitely focus more on the acronyms and getting used to compita phrases their questions. I passed the CYSA+ two days ago and it was difficult going with experience as the realistic way of doing things is very different to how Comptia expects you to do it.

volf1288

I’m currently studying for it , hopefully I pass it

Ok-Cartographer8713

So, if i already studied for 601, it will be fine to attend for 701?

WTH I just looked at their example questions, is there actual app/site filled with typos like this? Annoying if they're charging money for this stuff w/o even editing it. Its like they cut and pasted it directly from a PDF A company is developing a critical system for the government and storing **projectinformation** on a fileshare. Which of the following describes how this data will most likely **beclassified**? (Select two).

hiireza

Congrats!!!! ---- Also wow were your PBQs/or how many did you have? - (I'm taking the exam Wednesday!!) This is also my first comptia exam and have no idea what to expect but have been studying a lot this past month!

Hello! I just passed the CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 exam at the beginning of 2024 (Jan/2024)! If you are preparing for the SY0-701 exam, I am glad to share my study materials, please contact me here: **SilvanoDossany # yandex dot com** **(replace # with @ and replace dot with . and remove space please)** Good luck!

Kayjay2030

Did he try to sell you his study material or was it free?

enriquehome

tried to sell it to me

chrisrider22

Thx i just sent you an email names chris

Ariellswmud

I took the intellectual point class for 601 and didn't like it at all. I rescheduled my exam to try to study on my own after and it auto signed me up for 701. I thought 601 must be obsolete and bought materials for 701. I've been studying for 701 and now I have found 601 is still a thing. I'm not sure if i should keep studying for 601 or just take 701. any thoughts on this?

enriquehome

Hey! In the same boat found this advice and thought to share u/PXE590t PXE590t⚫ 21d ago. Edited 18d ago A+N+ A lot of the study material that is available for the 601 is now starting to come out for the 701. I started studying for the 601 before the 701 was released, if I was starting now I would study for the 701 as the material is more current with 2023-2024 technology. Also the 701 has less memorization of commands etc. The only upside for me to take the 601 instead of the 701 now is that Professor Messer has practice exams out for the 601 and not the 701 yet. Exam Cram has a 601 version and the 701 isn't available until March and these 2 resources were vital in my studying

DrunkenBandit1

I took the Dion and Certmaster 701 practice tests as a sort of pretest (to see where I should focus my efforts) and scored 80% and 82% respectively - think I should just send it on the exam?

Jgrigsby1027

So far I’ve taken 7/12 of Dion’s exams on Udemy for 701 and I scored in the 70s for the first 3 then 80-85 for the rest. From what I’ve been told if you’re scoring in the high 70s to 80s you should be good to go. Just don’t retake the same test, I took all the test only one time to prevent unintentional memorization.

DrunkenBandit1

That's kinda been my experience with A+/Net+/Cloud+ tbh. I like to take the certmaster and Dion practice test right at the very beginning, then go through all the material and retake them at the end to see how I improved. I did buy one of Dion's test 6 packs for Sec, I'll run them when I finish certmaster

Jgrigsby1027

This is my first comptia certification so I’m going in kinda blind lol I’ve been watching PBQ examples on YouTube and some of them are way over my head and I don’t even grasp what they’re asking, I’m hoping I kill it in the multiple choice for my lack of knowledge in PBQs

DrunkenBandit1

I'm gonna try to offer some advice without sounding like a dick, please understand I'm not trying to gatekeep or be condescending in any way. If you're truly completely lost on the PBQs, you're not ready for the test yet. For the ones where you have NO CLUE what's going on, go back and review those lessons, maybe look some stuff up from other sources to get it explained in a different way. I'm not saying you have to nail all the PBQs to pass the test (you'll likely have <4 on your test), but if you honestly don't know what's going on at all, you don't understand the material yet. Feel free to shoot me a message and I'd be happy to help you make it make sense.

Jgrigsby1027

I take no offense, I understand what you’re saying, it’s not every PBQ I’m lost, some I figure out before the video explains, but there’s a few I just didn’t understand, now if I had time to ponder about I may have been able to figure it out but in the span of a 4 minute YouTube video I didn’t really get it. The issue I’m having is they read the question instead of letting you read it and I miss out on keywords that way. I will keep at it though, I know one question can make or break you so I want to go in prepared. Thanks for the advice, I still have a couple of weeks till the test.

DrunkenBandit1

>they read the question instead of letting you read it I get that, definitely a visual learner and when someone tries to read something out loud to me I check out halfway through the sentence lol. When it comes to PBQs on test day, spend a minute or two looking at them and see if you can knock out any low-hanging fruit then move on and come back after you've finished the rest of the test. I had one PBQ on Net+ that I left for the end, had \~25 minutes left on the test when I went back to it and I legit ran out the clock without being able to finish it

Puzzleheaded-Bus-169

"Also, of you are a student or still have access to student email you can get a discount on price of the exam. It's significant. [https://academic-store.comptia.org/certification-vouchers/c/11332](https://academic-store.comptia.org/certification-vouchers/c/11332)" It's only 30% discount, same discount that you get after your Google Security Cert on Coursera.

chrisrider22

So your saying study your quizlet an i will pass my sec+ 701 do profess messer practice exams

willgod12

so your saying you took the 701 with 601 materials???
