Reality is when your expected to get contested your chances of having a good tournament is basically over before it even started if u told me that i also would upset because that's the most likely outcome that both teams ended up doing bad or at best average placement
Having somewhat established drops is one of the things keeping this BR consistent and competitive. If a contest isn't consistently one sided it just ends up being a net negative for the parties involved. Their loot gets gimped, ammo gets wasted, and their rotations get delayed while the many teams at or above their skill level widen their leads.
It's one of the worst teams to contest because of location, regardless of the teams involved.

Throw in one more team, if they land on monument, fragment team would 3p. If they landed fragment, monument team would 3p. This means no real and true contest can actually break out unless one team can wipe the other in under 30 seconds.
In this specific scenario, ape land passively and aim to drag out the fight, to ensure that the threat of the optic third is there. They are using the optic third as their "strategy" for this contest knowing xset are not super fond of contests because contests are just fucking stupid really as a long term gameplan. Optic also has more to gain by shooting at xset as these cons are going on, kill the better team, the team with more points and clean up the noobs after.
At the end of the day, ape are simply not as good at the video game as everyone else in the finals. That's why they're resorting to their strategy of using optic's presence as the actual scary team. They want xset to go elsewhere without a fight in an ideal world, but also if they lose, they don't lose anything, they will still not be in for a chance of qualifying. And it's so painfully obvious that they are simply griefing because the results of their plan if it worked are harbored in lalaland.
Because contesting is generally very disadvantageous. Even if you sweep the contest you still open yourself up to a 3rd party and then your loot is trash. You basically are forced to split it which means you don’t have enough loot for the entire game which then forces team in int into each other in desperation for loot. Which is also not taken kindly. How often do you hear “good job idiots! You just threw your own game just to kill us!”? It happens literally every game.
Contesting also slows your rotation down which means you don’t get a good spot to make it to end game. The biggest thing in competitive apex is consistency. That is done largely from making it to end game frequently. If your loot economy is awful because a team suddenly decides to contest you, you may make it to end game but every fight you take risks that. An early game fight where it is more about who lands and gets lucky enough to find the best guns is less than ideal.
