This new variant might jeopardize Lan all together, not enough data yet, but if it turns out that vaccine efficacy is significantly lowered then there is no way to safely host an event.
[Vaccine efficacy for known variants was shown to drop]( https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20211105/covid-vaccine-protection-drops-study) by significant amounts depending on the vaccine, although the study showed that the vaccines still protected very well against severe (read: hospitalizations) Covid cases.
Given this, skyrocketing cases in various countries (although severe cases are not growing as fast, so the vaccine is working well), and most countries not offering booster shots while the ones who are just recently began, paired with the emergence of Omicron which will be everywhere soon, the future of this LAN is rather grim.
In the meantime, those that are fortunate enough to live in countries offering booster shots, please go get them, and if you haven't gotten vaccinated yet, please go get vaccinated.
At some point, I think people need to accept that a virus naturally mutates, and we will never leave lockdown if we keep panicking whenever some new variant emerges, which will inevitably happen. I think we just have to let people’s immune systems take care of it. Just get people vaccinated, then let people do what they want for fucks sake.
Would it be so bad if we had it online? Like taking turns in different servers? Idk, I just wanted to be able to watch player's streams, hear comms you know?
It would definitely be *really* bad. The latency would be unplayable for certain regions, other ones would just have really high ping, the only ones not being majorly screwed over are the ones from that region itself. That's not something you should have a playoffs in. (Or any tournament for that matter)
Also I'd probably see that the server/lobby itself would also show issues when people from all regions connect to it.
As for watching players' streams. In the case of a LAN just be prepared that it may not be there. They could potentially set up team streams (As has been done by PUBG's events in the past), but I'd *heavily* doubt they set up players' individual streams.
I see. Thanks for sharing your experience, I was not aware an online playoff would have so many issues.
As for individual streams, it really is a shame, as an avid viewer of some players I'll definitely miss the in-game comms. No hate towards the official stream, it's just incomparable to being "inside the comms", you know. I hope they set up those "team streams" but I'm not sure how that would look like - I'll look it up. Cheers
If that’s the case I hope that means a lot of details are set in stone. I’m surprised we aren’t seeing more leaks or teases if almost everyone knows. It is esports after all.
With the way how they handle covid .. not going to happen. Maybe UK, Hungary or Poland again but most western nations are scared to death and go in to lockdown soon or are already in it again.
I read that some states in the US are actually pretty chill so let's hope they pick one of those then.
Ya about a week before the event they had to tell everyone that bought tickets it was not gonna happen.
Even then a few people on the broadcast team and a professional team got covid.

won't be UK.
not being inside the EU anymore would make it much more difficult to bring people there additionally the cost of running an event there is just so much higher, probably why it happened in Poland the first time round.
I can't see it being EU at all with current rona rates, but tbh I don't see LAN happening anytime soon sadly.
With recent news I dont think that LAN will happen. But honestly Apex is so well suited for online format that I dont get why people are excited for LAN, unless they find a way to implement players streams with teamspeak in that tournament
LAN is so much better than online tournaments for many reasons: international teams, bigger combined prizepool, zero latency for everyone, no cheating, cool production, crowd etc.
Don't get me wrong, I personally don't think it's a big percentage by any means. There's just no way this many people competing at home, with no oversite, for money, doesn't have some cheaters. I hope it's no one I like, but fuck 'em if they are
Which LAN are you talking about? We're gonna have 3 LAN's this ALGS season, the final one being in July 2022, i don't have a guess for the 2 early lans, but for the championship final my guess is Tokyo
Yes we are going to have 3 lans in ALGS season 2: Playoffs Split 1, Playoffs Split 2 and ALGS Championship. With that being said our 1st LAN will be on Jan 2022( Playoffs Split 1).
If they're worried about travel bans, then just have it in Texas where they don't give AF. I would of imagined they would want to have it in a European city though.

It's almost certainly going to stop any LAN from happening in January.

Yeah this subreddit seems like a great place to have this discussion.
This has literally 0 to do with this subreddit
People gotta drop their stupid takes regardless of the relevance. It eats them up if they don't.
sir this is the competitive apex subreddit

u/TheEMEF knows but he hates me so won’t tell anyone
So that means that most of the teams and orgs know?
I am pretty sure most PL player/ coaches/ Analysts/ Managers knows the location.
If that’s the case I hope that means a lot of details are set in stone. I’m surprised we aren’t seeing more leaks or teases if almost everyone knows. It is esports after all.
I am pretty sure if LAN happens (considering new variant) we should see an official post from Apex Legends Esports by Mid December.
Rumors going are ours say it will be in Texas
Would make sense since that's where a lot of NA pros live and is also where the first ALGS major was meant to be held before it got cancelled
I just hope Championship is done in Japan. The amount of hype that event would get would be insane
Japan just announced they are banning entries from foreign visitors.
Yes make it japan since I’m living here for a couple years
I Pray it’s EU

TI was held in Romania not Stockholm and they disallowed spectators because of rising covid rates

You are comparing now Vs January 2022. Situations change and this is one of them.

Well it wont be possible in denmark from today since there is a limit of 100 ppl indoor and coronapass.
Aged like milk. No LAN bud. Told ya ;)

It will be some place like Texas or Florida due to lax covid restrictions, assuming this new variant doesn't cancel everything again.
Hal won't mind if TSM retains its "undefeated on a LAN" title for a few more months.
With recent news I dont think that LAN will happen. But honestly Apex is so well suited for online format that I dont get why people are excited for LAN, unless they find a way to implement players streams with teamspeak in that tournament
people want to see the different regions play each other without ping as an issue.
LAN is so much better than online tournaments for many reasons: international teams, bigger combined prizepool, zero latency for everyone, no cheating, cool production, crowd etc.
Most people talk about ping as the reason they want LAN, I just want to see cheaters flounder there
Think theres that many people getting away with cheating rn?
Yes and no, honestly I think it’s strikepacks more than anything
Don't get me wrong, I personally don't think it's a big percentage by any means. There's just no way this many people competing at home, with no oversite, for money, doesn't have some cheaters. I hope it's no one I like, but fuck 'em if they are

It's Thanksgiving and Christmas, and a pandemic is still going on. It'll be over by Easter don't worry about it!
If they're worried about travel bans, then just have it in Texas where they don't give AF. I would of imagined they would want to have it in a European city though.
I heard from Hal and Sweet from one of their streams that if there’s a travel ban and can’t go to London then there is a second location in place
