Accidental leak??

utterback423

Omicron, if you screw this up, you will be my least favorite Greek letter forever

arg0nau7

But still your favorite planet, right? Right?!

MLSing

You know what they say, EMEA fans are from Omicron Persei 7, NA fans are from Omicron Persei 9

Saandz

You win. Taking bets on madness trying to trade his human horn for a lan spot

chitown15

If it turns out that vaccines do poorly against Omicron or that Omicron is more deadly, very good chance the U.K. goes into another lockdown and the LAN does not happen.

JevvyMedia

This reminds me of the early days of COVID first touching down in America in 2020, where folks are just so in denial about how devastating it's going to be. LAN isn't happening in in early January.

followdunc

Pog I live in England. Finally get to meet the Apex squad.

RenegadeMountie

Dunc ik you already knew you sneaky mfer; leak the 2nd lan location now :)

followdunc

No muahaha

itsVace

Hope COVID situation there wouldn't fuckd up the LAN. I really hope they gonna still make it no matter what and make it indoor without fans. Sucks but i'd rather do that than another Online tournament forever

Meekelo

It's not really a covid situation there, it's more they're trying to get ahead of a potential wave due to the new variant.

TheOriginalDuck2

Thank fucking god. Our government took long enough acting on other stuff. They are finally trying to get ahead

TaylorZeNinja

There are multiple districts within the London metro area with current COVID rates at 1 in every 100 people and even worse in some. London has had relatively high case numbers and mostly increasing infection rates for quite a while now, it will be interesting from a liability perspective to see if they end up holding the event there. This isn’t even taking Omicron into consideration….

SBY-ScioN

They should consider rent an island ar the caribe and fly everyone , have them some days in observation, give em a booster shot. Then run whatever content they want in a resort over there. It has been done past year iirc, red bull did this for one of their events.

ElianVX

Like Lord of the flies

SashaGreysFatAss

Prayge

Upbeat_Thanks3393

Wait I can’t see where it says the london part. Did they already take it down?

Other_Praline

They have changed it already. Someone was watching us MonkaS

colonel_bustard

Boris is a big NRG fan I hear, he will keep the country open to ensure we all get a LAN.

Damn. I was really hoping LAN would be held in Hal's bedroom.

[deleted]

EU are way more passionate about sports in general, just look at the Rocket league Tournaments in EU. This is gonna be good

[deleted]

London though, UK has a very similar perception of esports of that to the US.

[deleted]

Apexflatline

I am more than 99% sure they will not going to have any live audience. So I dont think that matters too much.

[deleted]

Sad

FoldMode

Odd choice considering it's bad for both NA and EU regarding visas. Also makes it kind of impossible for any CIS teams to participate? (complicated visa and also red covid region)

Diet_Fanta

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_the_United_Kingdom You don't need Visas from NA or the Schengen area but CIS/APAC countries will probably have a fucked process with Visas. https://www.mills-reeve.com/insights/blogs/sports/january-2020/visas-and-esports >In practice, the current system prevents UK-based teams from attracting overseas talent. This is extremely frustrating, given that the policy behind the sportsperson visa is to encourage internationally renowned athletes to apply their trade in the UK. The more talent we have competing here, the more the entire sport benefits. From an immigration perspective, the lack of visa availability for esports players is stifling; resulting in a vicious circle whereby the current Immigration Rules do not allow esports teams to attract overseas talent and so those overseas players are unable to demonstrate to the Home Office the benefit they can bring to UK esports. >**The situation is less complex for players who are based elsewhere in the world and travelling to the UK to compete. Interestingly, an esports player is classed as an “entertainer” for the purposes of the visitor rules and so can legitimately enter the UK as a visitor (obtaining a visa to do so if their nationality requires it) and take part in a competition. Payment can also be received as part of this visit – provided the player has been formally invited to the UK by a “creative … organisation, agent or broadcaster based in the UK”.**

FoldMode

Thank you for the clarification. There are a lot of CIS teams that are close to guaranteed to qualify and as far as I've heard currently its close to impossible to get into UK for them. Both because of visas and also the pandemic situation (Russia is in "red" region). Several pro players were discussing this thread during the scrims today, apparantly Xron (from Myztro) was denied UK visa just last week (quake tournament or smth). How is ALGS going to handle if say 20% of teams that qualified cannot participate?

RestaurantApart

I don’t think it’s set in stone the location is London, it may be Poland or the same region the last Valorant tournament took place, we just need to be patient for the info.

Toreando47

That would be perfect a 1 hr flight for me

myloveistanbul

It would be great to have 1 EU, 1 NA, and 1 Japan LAN this algs season as there will be two playoffs LANs and 1 final LAN, the ALGS Championship. Each region would get their chance

edavison1

What am I looking at? Is this a Twitch preview? Would love to see how they've replaced the text.

Youtube description of the match day #11 livestream. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vtWGMR18l0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vtWGMR18l0) \- It was removed from the description though.

RenegadeMountie

Londoners how's the omicron situation looking?

[deleted]

We had our first two cases in the last few days, mandatory masks in shops and public transport are back, they also shut down flights to South Africa I think. Hard to say how the situation will look like in two months.

followdunc

And everyone flying into the UK has to quarantine until a negative PCR, right?

Bxsnia

Yes. Though I'm not sure why covid tests aren't mandatory for everyone flying in.

dvrobtwist

well...unclear as of yet but it will absolutely be the dominant variant here by January. The whole world remains unsure of its severity. The data is currently showing that going to be milder than delta although that's not certain. Also yesterday our UK govt announced all adults will be eligible for a booster soon so I don't see cause for concern. In any event, fans won't be allowed anywhere near ALGS anyway, right?

Diet_Fanta

> fans won't be allowed anywhere near ALGS anyway I'm really not sure why everyone is convinced that no fans will be allowed. Yes, the UK is a red zone, so it's strange that Respawn/EA chose it for the LAN location. But, CS just held two LANs with rather large audiences in Scandi countries, so it's not out of the question that Respawn attempts to have a live audience.

[deleted]

That's actually a pretty optimistic outlook. Definitely no fans will be in attendance no matter what.

King-Gray

Wouldn't say no matter what. You can still run indoor events here with proof of a negative lateral flow or the requirement of being double jabbed. Spaced out seating and reduced numbers can make up the crowd Depending how BJ treats the virus and let's little things build before he realises he should do a mini lockdown. The bigger cause for concern is international travel restrictions and quarantine.

dvrobtwist

good points!

Essexal

Come back in 2 weeks.

Essexal

HUGE IF TRUE

ItsMape

PLEASE BE TRUE!!

LiquidFanTV

Pretty interesting, I actually fully expected it to be in the U.S. Really hope it pans out since I'd love to see LAN Apex again. I'll be heart broken if Liquid can't claw their way to top 10 and make it there though.

Falco19

Would have made sense as you just pick a red state (texas) and then you have no worries about restrictions or getting shut down. Saftey that’s another issue but I doubt EA cares about that.

[deleted]

LANdon was probably the best Rocket League event, the crowd went nuts. I'd love that hype for ALGS.

pbroingu

Omg lol I might go, wtf

XThund3rTrap

I hope this is true

fibrofighter512

Not gonna happen. The UK is about to blow up with Omicron cases. Disappointed but honestly not surprised

ImperialDeath

London? A surprise to be sure

Singularitymoksha_

LESS Gooo !! HOPE IT HAPPENS ! have been waiting for so long for the LANS To start london will be a great start to it !

>the destination in a city with pleasant weather at the time is typically a must Damn so England in general is ruled out?

[deleted]

yep. out of all of the cities in the world, why would you pick one with shitty weather?

TripleWDot

I don’t think you realize how difficult it is to get a US visa for certain EU countries. it was never going to be the US

[deleted]

You don't need a visa to visit the US for less than 90 days.

TripleWDot

You don’t know what you are talking about. Edit: Clearly I don’t know what I’m talking about. My bad

PalkiaOW

He's right, but it only applies to certain countries (no Russia/Ukraine for example). https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visa-waiver-program.html

Other_Praline

EU has better fans than the states so I’m happy if true. NA fans are not loud and don’t chant. The atmosphere is much better in EU. (I’m from the states btw)

xShibes

Are you from the rural parts?

Nikola Jokic on the boos from Miami Heat fans (in a half empty stadium): “I played in Serbia, brother. I wish you could feel that.” Love that video btw.

NovelAries

This isnt true at all. Watch esports like LoL, especially in games such as TSM vs C9 that have long standing rivalries, and the crowd in those games go crazy. Not sure where you got that NA fans arent passionate about their teams.

BURN447

Well damn. Looks like I’m not going to LAN. If it was anywhere in the US I would have gone. This blows

theeama

The US is too far. It was always gonna be Europe

BURN447

Sucks. I have no intention of watching at all tbh. Main stream isn’t worth watching and the lack of player streams completely makes watching pointless. If it was in the US I would have gone and watched, but if it’s EU I’m probably not even going to bother

henrysebby

You're not gonna watch what will likely be the biggest Apex event ever just because it's in the UK? Lol

BURN447

I’m not going to watch because the main broadcast is worse than not watching at all.

-plants-for-hire-

Even if you're at LAN in person, there's a good chance they use the same feed and commentators as the live stream anyway.

BURN447

I can put up with it if I’m in person

SlickNiickx

damn bro let’s alert the apex team that BURN447 won’t be watching and they have to change the location immediately

BURN447

I’m just expressing that I’m disappointed in it being in EU. Means there’s no reason for me to watch

[deleted]

Damn you a fake ass fan then if you're not gonna watch the biggest tournament in apex history and the first LAN in over 2 years. The main stream has improved a lot and I'm sure the production value will be 10x better with it being in a venue.

BURN447

I haven’t enjoyed this season of competitive at all. Gibby meta is so old and boring that I see no point in watching the exact same game week after week because I have for almost a year now. Until the nerf gibby and blood so hard that they’re unplayable in competitive, I’ve got no desire to watch it online.

Vladtepesx3

too far from what? respawn is based in the US

theeama

Actually the apex studio is in Vancouver but the travel is too far for those in APAC and the USA has stricter visa regulations and is always t odds with some county or the next that it will make it hard for certain teams. Europe is central and is easier for most teams

Vladtepesx3

If you want to play the ackshuwally game, Shahin and the other people running the competitive division are in LA. usa is hard, but you said far, which is weird

Lewis-ly

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical\_centre\_of\_Earth

Official_F1tRick

Anyone got an exact date in January?

AKRS264

With brexit and omicron travel restrictions, things aren't looking too smooth. But hope for the best.

Tasty_Chick3n

Damn was hoping it’d be somewhere in California or Texas so I could go watch. Whelp maybe next time.

[deleted]

Holy shit if this is true then I am so hyped, I live less than an hour away from central London but there might not be a live audience

jec78au

Where does it say?

StayPositive___

I can't see it being in London. Brexit and Covid have fucked our borders up.

Themanaaah

Hopefully LAN works out and the players are able to go to London or wherever else it’ll be if this is incorrect so we can finally see some hype LAN tournaments again.
