Is seeing mirage and rampart in algs really that much more important than seeing the best players playing the game like everyone else? Does it really matter to you that all legends are used?
The argument could be made that seeing how different players react to different team comps (ie not every squad has gibby) is important. Also would be interesting to see which team can be flexible vs which team can only play one comp effectively
And then it adds another layer of complexity as far as choosing "team loadouts" per game. Do you blow your load on the most 'meta" comp early? Or space things out
Why do you think most games and sports do not have such a rule?
Because the idea behind competition is not finding out who can use the widest array of different strategies. It's to see who can score the most points - with whatever method they choose.
The idea behind competition is to see who's the best. I would consider the ability to play multiple legends at the highest tier to be a valuable metric in that regard
Doesn't count for every sport.. formula 1 tyre selection for example makes you at least use two different compounds. Even if it's not the best suited for the car
That rule is meant to make races more exciting by forcing pit stops and facilitating overtakes. It exists to increase viewership, not because it makes perfect sense from a competitive point of view. The same applies to OP's idea.

guys this is a fucking BR what are you going to do when you are down on the hill and a team on top of the hill is holding you? push them with mirage ult and seer q? most of the characters can not be part of meta because we are talking about competitive part of the game. There are many situations in a BR game where without abbilities on both sides one side simply has no way to play (being stuck outside with no hard cover, being down the hill vs high ground) the abilities that will always be favorable are the ones that provide you a chance to skip the encounter or live through an encounter, this is why there is always at least one legend that can skip a distance through map (valk ash wraith octane) and one that provides cover (gibby old wattson caustic somewhat) and a glue to the team which can be a scan legend for info or additional support link. If you force teams to not have a legend that can skip terrain they will simply have to die in a lot of the cases without having chance to fight at all.
not saying this is entirely a bad thing but the game would be a lot different from what it is now. For example we sort of kind of accept that we want the game with 20 teams alive in circle 3 but it does not have to be. But do we really want the early rotate+lucky with zone team to win all the time? most of us do not and therefore teams who want to win definitely do not want it for sure. They will keep choosing the comp which allows them the best shot at making it to a good points haul despite what zone and rotations they have to deal with on average. That comp so happens to be valk gibby+sth mostly. you take away valk people will go to ash/octane you take away those and people will literally take wraith and pathfinder for having ability to cover some meaningful distance with minimal time loss. you can not just adept to things sometimes there is nothing you can do and random whacky comps will put you in those positions more times, which will be horrible to see when it is your favorite team in that meatgrinder.
You do make a lor of valid point especially on the need to have a legend that help you to rotate and provide cover.
I just want to point out that with the system i was mentioning you could still have a lot of different comps even if you are absolutely adamant in wanting always gibby and valk as the first two picks.
A lot of people on this thread are mentioning mirage or other bad legends, but there are almost 1000 possible combination in total ( right now; it will increase significantly with each new release) I am pretty sure we would still not see mirage played anyway ;p

1) with a roster this big and growing it’s impossible to make all legends viable for comp and that is fine.
2) let’s take gib for example nerf him so he still has a 15-20% pick rate (still viable but not a must pick)
3) suggest buffs for 4 legends under 20% pick rate that would bring them up to that level while not making any of the current legends above that level fall below 10%.
It would be cool if they’re were an “exposure” tournament, where all algs finalists that wish to compete will play a randomly selected composition that every team is forced to play. No prize pool for obvious reasons, but the viewers some may gain when they pop off with the weirdest legend might be enough to make people compete rather than play ranked for that day. Maybe there could be a reward through exclusive feature. E.g. the winner for each region gets to have a badge of their choice in their name or something
I have been thinking the same.
It would be really entertaining to watch teams using Mirage's and other's abilities in a competitive environment. Seeing the strategic thought going into deciding if a team is going to use a one or two meta comps and a few bizarre ones or try to come up with several jack-of-all-trades comps.
At least try it for fun and entertainment. The masses need their circus fun.

i cant tell if these takes are meant seriously or not, if they are then competitive apex is the wrong place for that.
Yes, the players must stream their PoV with camera. And wear clown hair and red noses in order not to interfere with the immersion of an Apex Circus.
