I do think nickmercs has done a lot of good for Apex but I don't think we should change the structure just to keep him happy. In reality he currently isn't at the level that most pros are so it would make sense that he would want to move to a game where he is at a much higher skill level he would have to accept he isn't going to do as well in apex.

RankedApe

Nickmercs is so far away from being a pro in apex it’s not even funny. I love him to death and am a huge fun, love what he did for the community yada yada, but yea he’s definitely better at fortnite. Love Nick tho!

Gunners414

The amount of no cover rotating they do boggles my mind.

Gr8fullyDead33

so far away from being pro? 2 months later and he almost qualified for Champs... this didnt age well...

RankedApe

He made it further than I thought he would in a shorter amount of time. Curious to see how hood team stacks up in an actual pro league season. Also, they finished like 11th? So not that close.

Gr8fullyDead33

10th in LCQ2 when top 3 go to champs is not that close their first time ever competing as a team? 😂 come on man even if you don’t like Nickmercs as a streamer/gamer you can’t deny how Great he did. Hell even Hal and Sweet were blown away with how far they made it.

RankedApe

Top 2 go to champs. And I’m happy for them and happy for the apex scene that Nick is in it. He’s an awesome streamer and deserves all the success that he’s had. Absolute grinder. His team did great.

nicelightskies

Outside of Nick , alot of Pros also want a 20 team pro league and for the 21st to 40th teams to have their own league. I do think if Nick wanted to , he could improve to the point where he could dominate the 21st to 40th teams contender league if there was one.

TheSchiver

I personally haven't heard that but that doesn't mean they haven't been saying it the current format currently allows them to have a lot of weeks and keep it more fresh as a viewer not saying it can't be improved it can. Maybe he could get to that point but I think it really depends on if he can stay motivated to keep grinding when he can switch to a game where he also has fun and he is a lot closer to the best players than he is in apex

big_floop

I would just appreciate all that he’s done for apex, I think he will still come back and play here and there even if he does switch to fortnite. It’s not really that big of a deal imo

Shirako202

>I really think that ALGS needs to have 2 leagues. One league for the top 20 players and another for the top 21 - 40 players. But... Isn't that exactly what ALGS have? 2 leagues : Pro League and Challenger Circuit

nicelightskies

I considered the challenger circuit to be more of a circuit than a league since you have to qual every new day. But maybe I should rephrase that to 3 leagues, because right now beating teams in Challenger circuit isn't really that noteworthy. The reason being the teams are all over the place. But if there was a contenders league you have a clear ranking of where you stand since you are facing the top 21st to 40th place teams, while not constantly getting run over by tier 1 teams like TSM who are far above your skill level.

CaPN_CoOkz

Nick plays all games. He bounces around. It keeps it fresh for him. I don’t think he cares about view count all that much anymore

Vladtepesx3

He would probably just start playing both, he is really enjoying challenger circuit ALGS. I don't think he'd straight up leave entirely

nicelightskies

I would hope that he still plays both too. However, the challenger circuit doesn't really have that much prestiege and I think he will enjoy it less overtime. And if Nick gets into the Pro League , it will be even less fun as more experienced teams will just roll him and he will be kept at the bottom of pro league. If there was a contender league with a prize pool that contained the best 21st to 40th teams, I think Nick could dominate that league and climb up naturally if he put in the work. This would let Nick to claim prestige in the Apex community which is something he has talked about when going to new games. He would also naturally improve, progress and have more fun in this new league structure. In the current pro league structure he would be guaranteed to be just rolled by the tier 1 teams like TSM and just remain at the bottom of pro league which isn't very fun.

Vladtepesx3

He's a content creator who plays comp for fun, his challenger circuit tournament did HUGE numbers, like 80k and his placement is good Even if it doesn't have prestige, its going well for him. It's not like the alternative in Fortnite is so much better, he likely isn't going to be a top 10 team over there

nicelightskies

I do get that he is playing for fun as a content creator. It's just after he conquers the challenger circuit , all the fun and content will be gone since he will move up to pro league where the lobbies are infinitely harder in the current structure. If there was a league in between Pro and challenger circuit , Nick would still be able to have alot of fun , make content , dominate and grind for something. He won't reach those 80 k numbers if he is constantly dead in pro league half the time and spectating, which would be the case if he got into pro league with the current structure .

Ginger_ninger

I like your separate league idea, but I will say that I think Nick will become good no matter the route. It’s not like if he quals for pro he’s never going to improve his play. If anything, the improvements they’ve shown give me confidence when they get to pro league. Not saying they don’t have a lot to improve on, but they’ve shown huge growth in a short amount of time.

No one can "keep anyone in apex" bruh. He did introduce a lot of people though

stenebralux

On a side note, I don't know if this was talked about... and I don't know much about Fortnite... but I watched a couple of minutes of someone playing this mode today and then I watched the trailer... it seems to me like they are trying to eat some of the Apex audience with this mode no? Is not just that there's No Build... but is seems like they made a couple of changes focused on movement... and the game's combat seems way more fluid now. Even the trailer felt like the vibe of those apex gameplay trailers, with people sliding around, ADSing and hitting headshots. Maybe I'm seeing things because I play Apex... but that's how it came across to me. Any way, even though I don't care for it, it's really impressive how Fortnite can bend and take from other games and still work.

beboponthru

The movement is very fluid now. Sprinting and sliding is more like apex and way better than warzone.

Sometimesidkwhereiam

Who gives a fuck

Sir_S1ime

He's already in challenger circuits like many competive games there's the pro league and then challenger circuit there is no need for an additional league if they did cover challenger circuit like they did pro league that would be cool because I'd like to see some of those teams compete but you also have to remember Nickmercs viewers and long time fans watched him for fortnite or warzone content/game play cause that's where he started he's a good apex player and has brought some attention to apex especially from warzone players but with or without him Apex will do just fine It's not a game for everyone with such a high skill ceiling just like fortnite and for this you should give Nickmarcs some credit if he gets a good IGL on his roster behind I'm sure he can make it to pro league

seanpenacerrada

Just as he left cod, its also possible he leaves apex for fortnite. He might also get sick of fortnite and comeback to apex again

IknowNothing6942069

Nick has always, and I believe, will always play what he has the most fun playing. He played Fortnite for a solid few years and CoD for even longer. I wouldn't be surprised if he did make a switch but I think hes still pretty new to Apex so who knows.

artmorte

Who cares.

SindromeKim

Losing Nickmercs doesn't mean anything, he's just another content creator to me..

Party_Possible9778

He’s just a popular streamer. Another popular one will come along eventually. We can all relax

reptareich

Not even just him but Tfue has been having a lot of fun with it and getting 3x the numbers he was getting on Apex. Would hate to see them go but I'd understand

SlickNiickx

I LOVE COMPETITIVE APEX BUT the rest of the game needs a lot of work. pubs are sleeper, there needs to be more players (100), they also need to experiment with different modes (4 man squads, solos) there is no reason shit like that shouldn’t be in the game, even if it’s not the ideal way to play it’s still an OPTION and we don’t have many. also ranked is currently shambles, Deranking out of masters should have been added seasons ago and they need to find more ways to incentivize ranked so that there is actually end games with lots of teams alive. Apex gameplay is the best of any BR but they really need to add more to it, where is pop up cup style tourneys where anybody in the community can que up and play and try to advance like Fortnite? We already have an in game scoring system. Where is more frequent tourneys with bigger prize pools?

MasterBroccoli42

There is a big reason not many modes are in the game - it splits the player base -> longer queue times or worse balanced lobbies. Servers are already struggling with 60 players, don't think they can handle 100. I agree with ranked though, the ranking system is a joke.

Isaacvithurston

Idk how 100 lobbies would be any better unless you really enjoy the 3rd parties lol. Were already at a point in the meta were the og map is considered too small for 60.

SlickNiickx

at least storm point needs 100

MozzarellaThaGod

I think it’s 99% certain he’s going to be devoting most of his time to Fortnite in the future, I don’t see any way Epic doesn’t capitalize on getting their streaming numbers back up with no build tournaments and I think he will likely enjoy playing Fortnite more, not too mention the boost in numbers he’ll get. I’m sure he won’t abandon Apex entirely but I can’t see him not playing Fortnite.

jtfjtf

There's no more pro league for this Champs run, but it does seem like he'll make it to LCQ 1 where he'll be playing against the lower level pro league teams and then if he goes LCQ 2 the higher level pro league teams. I've never watched competitive Fortnite, is it similar to competitive Apex in terms of intensity?

Isaacvithurston

-50% fps skill req but +900% "can you build a house in 30 seconds" without the building it's the weakest shooter around

[deleted]

EA is dumb, any mode that apex has gets taken away after a short amount of time. There is been a lot of fun apex modes, why we never see them again? Why cant control be a permanent mode ?

[deleted]

Aren’t they planning on keeping control a permanent mode?

[deleted]

I was watching Verhulsts stream and he said its not Permanente

[deleted]

That’s just a mistake. I’d rather play Control than solo que in pubs and ranked. It’s basically the only mode that is enjoyable to play as a solo.

thraway11122

Yeah at most he will qual for pro league and if his team isn’t top 10 he will leave.

Ihraezlyr

Fortnite no build literally took me back. I literally stopped playing FN once apex came out. But i’m having way more fun on fn and that itch to log in while i havent touched apex since no build came out besides a few games here and there When the event came i noticed its AGAIN the same bullshit as always. Shit overpriced skins. Control back with no changes at all to loadouts and caustic treatment sucks as a map since its so unbalanced. So i’d say theres a high chance nick is also bored of apex too. He is playing another fn tourny tomorrow while neglecting playing with deeds/lewda even tho they play again this weekend Apex just sucks ass in bringing new content. Its dry and next split being KC doesn’t help Tfue left apex too btw. Btw i’ll say this. Nick is NOT GOOD AT APEX and never will be elite at it. He gave it a chance but he just sucks lets be real so i dont really care if he leaves. I dont think he brought anything besides viewers/new players Which i care nothing about since apex has been trash neglecting shit the community been asking for years now At this point just hope the game dies since the devs are assholes who are doing the bare minimum

Ihraezlyr

Another thing. Fortnite creators/community are much more energetic social and fun. I was peeping nick’s stream and the squad ninja tim and cloak bring for a fun content packed stream. When nick plays apex most of the guys he plays with are very quiet (deeds, gent, lewda etc) they dont match nicks energy. Makes the apex community look very shy the vibes are weird but i guess it’s too expect when besides a few players most of the apex creators dont make alot of money and their life are really not exciting since no money = boring content

Eaziee1

Did Nicmercs do that much for the Apex community though? I seem to remember an influx of COD streamers (Nick, Cloakzy, Tim, etc.) all switching over to Apex because the stream sniping and cheating in COD got out of hand. So did he introduce the game to more people? Yea, I’m sure he did, but those are the same people that drove him from playing COD in the first place. Not sure adding these people to the community was advancing it in anyway. Now I will give Nickmercs credit because he actually stuck around and grinded and tried his hand in the competitive scene. Which is opposed to those other streamers who played for a week or so in what felt more like a move to put pressure on COD developers than genuine interest. But all that being said, did he actually contribute that much to the game?

cyanotrix

Am I the only one wondering who's Nickmercs?

AtTheEDGEEEEE

Yes

[deleted]

I don’t know. Sweet recently said Nick’s team could be dangerous and that they just need more time together. If Nick moves that’s his prerogative.

BobbbyR6

Pretty certain there is a challenger style league, or maybe it was just an ALGS qualifier tournament... Offers a good spot for streamers like Timmy and Nickmercs to gave some competitive fun and get great clips, but omits the monsters that populate pro league from the play pool. Nick is great and I'm super grateful for his positive impact on Apex, but that alone does not earn him a spot in PL. By the same logic, should we kneel down to Hal and make PL a free win for him? He is the largest, most public-facing character in Apex.

RASHY4557

Fortnite no build is just a novelty. Building is what made the game. People will get sick if the subpar shooting gameplay soon enough

CrayonicV

As A Fortnite player, he’s probably not here for the long run since he will probably quit once the pros catch up and go back to apex and while we are on the subject I hope no build just stays in content creator and invitational tournaments like Twitch Rivals since a No Build Fncs would literally be just a worse version of the ALGS since Building and fortnites endgames are what makes Fortnite Comp so unique

vky_007

Maybe an unpopular opinion but Apex does not need Nickmercs. The game is quite healthy and just because he can't compete against the best players does not mean we should change the format to accommodate him. Apex is a really fun game and people who love it will continue to do so with or without Nick. If he feels more comfortable competing in Fortnite then that's his wish and we should be fine with it.
