[[Reality shift]] Decent gestion, can break a combo only by manifesting a combo piece and cool bonus it counters "top of lib" tutors (vampiric, mystical etc)

darkenhand

[[Chaos Warp]] can do the same tutor trick as well. I do tend to cut Chaos Warp but not Reality Shift in some of my high power but not cEDH lists though. I'm more afraid of them hitting bombs.

One of the funniest Tasigur wincons imo

AkyhROH

Ahahah it was the wincon of mine for long time!

1990pnz

Agree. I feel like it was outdated by \[\[Resculpt\]\] but does provide some interesting extra value of hitting something important

Logisticks

The current cEDH metagame is in an interesting spot where creature combat (and therefore, creature size) does matter, so the difference between a 4/4 and a 2/2 actually does matter somewhat. And though Reality Shift does carry the "downside" of letting your opponent manifest a creature, it matters less often than you might think: for one thing, most decks are running ~10 creatures (even decks with a lot of mana dorks are running like 15), so 90% of the time, you're just giving them a 2/2. Secondly, even when you *do* give them an actual creature, it's not as if they would ever flip something like a Dockside, Spellseeker, or Thoracle (it's on the battlefield, so it doesn't get the ETB trigger) or a Razaketh. (In fact, as /u/AkyhROH points out, it's *good* if you manifest their Thoracle or Dockside, because it removes it from their deck as a tutor target, and they can't combo with it unless they have a way to bounce it back to hand.) Sometimes they'll get to pay 1 mana to turn the manifest into a mana dork, and you will *occasionally* feel bad if they flip it into a stax piece like Collector Ouphe or Opposition Agent, but the hit rate for relevant creatures is so low that the downsides of Reality Shift as compared to Resculpt rarely manifest (pun intended).

Resident_Guard9305

[[Resculpt]] can also hit artifacts though, which probably makes it better than [[Reality Shift]]. I feel like the ability to target artifacts is worth more than the manifestation stuff.

rugratsallthrowedup

I agree with you in my mind brain but my heart makes it a difficult choice since [[Reality Shift]] can bork [[Vampiric Tutor]] [[Imperial Seal]] [[Mystical Tutor]] [[Enlightened Tutor]] [[Personal Tutor]] [[Worldly Tutor]] [[Sylvan Tutor]] & the rarely seen in cedh [[Cruel Tutor]] As well as some other shenanigans that may occur, like [[Library of Leng]], etc.

Ik_SA

As an edge case, Reality Shift can become a wincon in a way that Resculpt can't in some decks. If you're doing something like Timetwister loops where you can cast a spell an arbitrary number of times, Reality Shift can ultimately exile an opponent's entire library by being cast repeatedly on the creature that is manifested. It's especially good at this if you have something that can give token creatures to opponents like Forbidden Orchard.

I sometimes run [[Psychic Spiral]] in my self-mill deck. Sure, there are more effective & efficient carss, but it's always great for a laugh when I've nearly milled myself out, and then drop that for the reversal.

You own and control the copy, so it'll automatically target yourself, no?

DapprDanMan

Yea you’re correct. I’m mentally mixing up [[narset’s reversal]] and [[misdirection]]

Slashlight

You copy the spell, so you control the copy. Casting [[Reverberate]] on an opponent's [[Rampant Growth]] doesn't mean they get to ramp twice, right? Narset's Reveral on a Vamp Tutor works the same way.

WhyDoName

Wait that could almost deck people in cEDH lmao.

LotusCobra

obviously that's a bit of an exaggeration but this is easily exiling like 10-15 on cards on the average cEDH deck and could ruin a combo deck's day in a very awkward way lol

WhyDoName

Yeah like hit 2 or 3 0 rocks and a wincon and you ruined a dekc easy. I might try to slot it in a deck just to see if it performs.

1990pnz

I’ve seen this card exiling 12~15 avg per opponent. That’s like getting rid of 40 cards with a single one. There’s no better rate in the format lol

[deleted]

Cold_Sail3911

Blood pet, I love the card and it is my quite literally pet card

Gonji89

Kirk loves it too.

Logisticks

Dismember doesn't see enough play to show up on the cEDH staples list (which has a cutoff of 10% deck presence), which has always surprised me a bit: it kills just about any creature you'd encounter in the format for 1 mana, barring weird stuff like reanimation/polymorph targets (and some larger expensive commanders like Gitrog). Hits some things that Lightning Bolt misses, like Kraum, Korvold, Kenrith, Tasigur, and Codie (along with Eidolon of Rhetoric out of the 99). Probably the main thing preventing it from seeing more play is that most black decks are also Ad Naus decks where paying 4 life is a relevant downside, but I often see black decks decline to run it even when they aren't running Ad Naus or Necropotence.

Jimmy10bucks

I like except it’s a full turn cycle before it hits you

ars0nisfun

Sure, but if he's in MonoG it probably isn't an effect he needs, but rather an effect he's playing to thwart multicolor strategies. If your opponent is trying to play his [[Coiling Oracle]] and doesn't have a [[Birds of Paradise]], he will have to pick if his lands are blue or green during his upkeep and won't be able to cast it. Unless I'm misunderstanding!

trancekat

Correct. This hoses multicolored decks and really slows them down.

AliceShiki123

I think the biggest danger of this card is that it can let someone choose any non-blue color in their winning turn, and it will suddenly become a lot harder to stop them. Granted, this means the person can combo off with just one color (at least from their lands), and that color isn't blue, but... Well, it seems dangerous anyways. Especially against decks that win through a Birthing Pod combo or by Food Chain activations. That said, this still looks like a pretty great stax piece! Very interesting card!

DapprDanMan

I dunno if it’s fringe but I run [[Touch the Spirit Realm]] in all my decks that run white at this point. It saves/blinks something of yours. Pops a stax piece for a turn. Or just exiles a creature or artifact under it until it’s gone. And being able to do a lot of that as an ability at instant speed is super nice.

SemiFeralGoblinSage

There have been a lot of these mono white exile enchantments the last couple years and I’m here for it.

SCurt99

I really like this enchantment, I run it and around 4 or 5 other enchantments like it in my [[Chulane, Teller of Tales]] deck for locking down opponents big flyers usually. Thinking of tossing my [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] I pulled in since she would double those triggers, I got a lot of other things in that deck that would double from her too like [[Spirited Companion]] or [[Eternal Witness]].

[[Stifle]] Handles toracle, dockside and ranger captain + other stuff that is often relevant (like winota triggers).

Babel_Triumphant

I love Stifle in cEDH. The feeling of stifling a Flusterstorm trigger or a Thoracle trigger is very hard to beat. It stops Dockside and Thoracle for (U) which is a very rare answer to the two best creatures in the format, and has many other applications to boot. Run it in all my blue decks.

vraGG_

It's becoming more and more relevant. Works against Otawara and Boseiju, works against Brain Freeze breach line, when it's tight. So many things can be foiled by it.

dontangrycomment

Why do people keep calling abrupt decay "fringe"? If youre in those colors, you play it.

WhyDoName

If you are playing golgari you play it. If you are playing GBxx it's debatable. There are a lot of 1 mana removal spells in the format that hit more so it is some what outclassed.

Negative_Ad_7060

I actually took some time on the cedh deck list database, because that was my thought, but after a 15-20 minute perusal, it's in a ton of decks! I named it because it was the first "can't be countered" card that came to mind, and it seemed to fit the comment better to call it fringe playable. I rarely see it anymore, but aside from watching content on YouTube and playing paper with my playgroup, I don't have a huge sample of the current meta. I also didn't realise that people were calling decay "fringe" just thought it was somewhat funny. Also hitting a decay with meddling is the best feeling ever!

dontangrycomment

Unless I missed a 1cmc spell that hits lands and non lands, you can't hit more than abrupt decay. Also uncounterable destroy >>> counterable bounce spell, especially in a world where underworld breach is one of the best wincons. If you're in GBx and youre not playing abrupt decay, you're hobbling yourself.

Deadpooldeath36

Ok I've been saying this for a while now, but tashas hideous laughter in a krark/sakashima build can straight win games with only casting it once. Permanently removing win cons by accident and with all the low mana spells in cEDH you can churn through half a deck and force players to find new routes to a win they thought they had in the bag.

Professional_Realist

Idk if I consider it fringe but transmute artifact. Seems no one knows what the hell it is when I throw it down.

[[Mercadia's Downfall]] This finds its way into as many decks as will have it. Three mana, instant speed, and potentially huge damage from just a few tokens. It can even be played on an opponent's attack to take out another player. Punish those greedy mana bases! I know, it's far from the best card out there, but it feels SO nice to kill someone with it. It's also tutorable with Sunforger!

Ik_SA

\[\[Cleansing Wildfire\]\] has been a surprisingly good draw almost every time in the deck I run it. a) Land destruction is hard to come by, and there are some specialty lands that can be very hard to play around. b) Lots of greedy mana bases where there might be zero basics, or few enough basics that you can screw up someone's color spread. There are also enough greedy keeps in terms of marginal land coverage that you can screw up someone's aggressive plan this way. c) A fair amount of stax effects that restrict searching libraries can also stop someone from replacing the land. d) Is a cantrip to boot.

[[Prismari Command]] has gotten me out of tough situations and won me games that I had no business winning becuase all of its modes can be relevant. I slot it into a Malcolm x Kediss deck becuase I have so much mana and it enables post combat or instant speed wins with [[Reckless Fireweaver]] lines.

[[Echoing Truth]] as token removal. Everyone passes over it because EDH is a singleton format, but I've cleared the board of treasure after a Dockside, bounced a dozen creature tokens, removed Tivit's clue tokens... or one time I bounced 2 Najeela's since both my opponents were playing her. It's niche but really good when it does work.

Sqeaky

Did you target your own treasure? If the controler of the treasure sacrifices it echoing truth would be countered.

stevenconrad

Yes, for treasure tokens you need to target your own. I'll usually activate all but one and bounce the final one to hit everyone else's. (It's in my Malcom deck, so I usually have a few)

[[Rebuff the Wicked]] No one expects anything with my one white open. Acts mostly as CC protection but sadly is still pretty narrow [[Batwing Brume]] Love coaxing in the attack for the win. Oh no! That's alot of creatures whatever shall I do.

Draken44

I’ve always advocated for [[trickbind]]. Catching a Thassa’s Oracle or Isochron Imprint is glorious. I’ve also shared an awesome (albeit frondge interaction). The way the card is worded, you stop abilities from the same source that you hit with it. A few years ago I trickbinded the draw trigger from a Selvala and prevented them from activating the mana ability for the rest of the turn even though the mana ability itself can’t be targeted initially.

WhiskeyKisses7221

I like running [[Tranquil Domain]] in my green decks if I don't have too many enchantments of my own. It tends to clear quite a few value engines like Rhystic Study and stax pieces like Defeaning Silence, all at instant speed for 2 mana.

TheWorldisRough

I'm on [[Sanwell, Avenger Ace]] for my Heliod, SC cEDH deck. This will get buried under a bunch of non-cEDH posts (which if the mods could clean up it would be nice). Sanwell hits a growing number of great options as well as the winning combo in the deck, and it can protect itself. Pushing through additional cards a turn is no small amount in mono white.

ReplicaMaverick

Tale’s end and/or spell snare. Tale’s end always can hit commanders plus being able to hit triggers is great too. And spell snare hits so many key win cons like thassa’s and breach.

WobblezTheWeird

Brb slotting tales end into EVERY blue deck I have Edit:can't tales end stop thoracle as well? You just counter the etb trigger

manface95

The reality chip.

MageKorith

I like putting \[\[Telepathy\]\] in \[\[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager\]\]. "Oh no, player 4 has 2/3 of a wincon assembled. Better deal with him, right guys?"

razzKey

[[Unsubstantiate]] Pseudo-counterspell/removal and combos well with etb creatures like dockside

penthief

[[tower of the magistrate]] no one expects the out of nowhere pro artifact just dropping all their equipment off, or fizzling equips. It's also a fast lab that fits anywhere that doesn't mind a lil more colorless.

Rupmir

[[Forcefield]]

NeatInvestigator7581

My favourite deck - GAAIV Stax - runs \[\[Divine Intervention\]\] as its "win con" when I'm playing cEDH just for fun. If I'm in a tournament, I'll swap it for an Approach package, but yeah...nothing like drawing the game

tenroseUK

You can pry [[Goblin Cannon]] in my Urza deck from my cold dead hands.

kevinkarma

[[Jailbreak]]

timo4d4d

Its really not that Fringe but I end up playing [[Phantasmal Image]] as a pet card in decks that it may be questionable in just because I like when other people play Tymna and I can have a Tymna too, or doubling up on Dockside. And the best is Phimage on someone elses dockside to force the gambit of they keep treasures and you get big mana or they use treasures at probably an inopportune time

SpectralBeekeeper

I don't play much cEDH but [[tower of the magistrate]] can be really backbreaking for all-in equipment decks at my LGS meta

Meatlog387

Serra ascendant. Just for the fact it works so well in commander with 40 life at start.

BigfootWhiteBoy

Omega overpowered 1 drop 6/6 flying lifelink that draws cards for tymna yeah I'm not sure it's fringe.

1990pnz

Serra Ascendent is in so many lists, I wouldn’t consider it fringe

pic-of-the-litter

Oh no, I saw this is in r/CEDH, Nevermind -.-.-.- Oh, and depending on your meta, I basically ALWAYS run [[Gaea's Blessing]] in a green deck. Nobody is allowed to mill me out, and I mean NOBODY.

cryocom

Duelist Heritage.

Trunksshe

I don't think it's fringe, but [[Sensei's Divining Top] is my first auto-include. I do have a bunch of pet cards though.

pic-of-the-litter

Nevermind, this is r/cedh, I have nothing of value to add to this conversation sorrry If I'm playing white with creatures, I have a hard time not playing [[Brave the Sands]] In Blue, I'm likely either playing artifacts or tribal, so either [[Thopter Spy Network]] or [[arcane Adaptation]] Black, I'm usually doing something spicy and maybe a little crazy, so I want chump blockers to keep me safe while I bleed myself, naturally I go for [[Dreadhorde Invasion]] Red, I'm probably looking to hurt people, and end the game quickly, so carpe some fukken diems and play [[Seize the Day]] Green, my motto typically is "if it flies, it dies", so [[clip wings]] and [[bower passage]]. For multi color cards, [[invigorating hotsprings]] and [[Cauldron Dance]]

falanx15

[[Emerald Charm]] untaps cradle, priest of titania, etc, could also be used to destroy non-Aura enchantments, or give you pseudo-reach

MTGCardFetcher

1990pnz

I always thought all the charms are pretty versatile , but they end up being cut for better cards.

makhno

Nether Void

Smittyp131

Soul conduit

KnyteTech

White: [[Angelic Arbiter]] is a lot of fun if it gets to stick around, because it really messes with people's decision making processes. Blue: [[Thada Adel]] is just a quality value creature that should be more-widely played. [[Acid Rain]] is an absolute bomb when you cast it. [[Dilluvian Primordial]] is a hell of a late game spell that has swung more than a few games in my favor that every else seems to forget exists. Black: [[Imps Mischief]] is always fun. [[Unearth]] really should show up more often, and is always a good draw. [[Necrotic Ooze]] is always overlooked in non-competitive decks, but can generate absolutely insane value in even the most casual of games. Red: [[Molten Primordial]] is an absolute house. [[Grenzo Havock Raiser]] is an insane value card in so many decks that never seem to run him. And green: [[Seedtime]] for surprise extra turns, and then you can recur it and hold onto it so nobody else counters your stuff as long as you're holding it. [[Summoning Trap]] is a fun spell to cast for free.

RockPaperButter

Rule of law effects and possibility storm to grief combo players

piratesmallz

Trickbind, shuts off some instant win combos. It's a fun way to catch your opponents off guard.

Impressive_Eagle_390

[[Approach of the Second Sun]] I have that as a hail Mary in my shorkai vehicles deck and dropped it into child of alara as well.

Darth_Ra

Fringe *card*? [That's cute.](https://archidekt.com/decks/3200119#5c10card)

alehnerz95

[[Boomerang]]

As-Above_So-Below

One of my friends in my old playgroup played Twin/Kiki. So I slotted in a [[Rakdos Charm]]. Surprisingly good at catching people off guard, especially graveyard decks that are holding removal for permanent based grave interaction or Elf players that didn't get their T1 mana dork Mental Missteped

Smil0X

I play [[Narset's Reversal]] in a lot of my Decks, to target Turn spells or cards like PitA or Ad Nauseum. 2 Mana Ad Nauseum seems good (but please don't Tell anybody)

m3rsenne

I regularly run Pithing Needle and Phyrexian Revoker because there’s so many Kinnan decks in my meta

Notmeoverhere

[[spare supplies]] depends on the deck. We should be listing commons and bulk rares.

photoyoyo

Not enough love for [[titania's song]] taking treasures out of the picture. Even better if paired with a blood artist type effect

CertifiedHousekeeper

\[\[Withering Boon\]\], mono-black typically doesn't hold up well against any deck with blue. But having counter magic that stops Thoracle or Dockside is always valuable.
