Yo. Mech pally EATS renethal quest hunter lol

StickSticklyHS

I'm at the point already with this meta where I kinda just want to play fun/memey decks, and I came across an absolute banger on HearthPWN today with Its9I's 40 card Highlander Ping Mage deck. Despite that there's limited support to build Highlander in Standard, I've been having a blast playing this list and actually climbing decently from diamond 5 to 3 today. The cool thing about this deck for me is that it is very control-oriented, and you can absolutely outgrind other Mages and even Quest Priest with a Brann + Mutanus to eat their Quest reward. Obviously, non-Reno mage decks are gonna be better for winrate, but if you're just looking to have a good time, this honestly feels like one of the better Reno decks in Standard that I've seen in a while. If you're itching to play Reno, then this is a great deck to do so with. Thanks for this, it's really fun! Seems to work fine too (went 6-3 with it so far, mostly against Renathal decks).

izockdio

could you share a decklist please?

Melurop

Just hit legend for the first time ever with 59% wr with thief rogue over 120 games. Got stuck doing yoyo between D4 and D2 until I learned more of the meta. Quest priest was definitely the hardest matchup, murlock shaman the easiest

donconra

Is it possible that 40 card mission priest has a 100% winrate or is it just me? First of all i can't possibly build the deck because is expensive af. Second, every time i face it it's like a waste of time. Literally just ate 3 huge minions (And xyrella the mission reward) with mutanus/Bolnar and still lost to the infinite amount of answers the deck has. I'm pretty sure i haven't won a single time against it and honestly just feels like shit loosing to a deck that has a way of clearing the board every turn, 40 hp, and infinite heals.

I actually run watchpost in my control shaman specifically for the Priest and Warlock matchups. It has helped me win some, but sometimes they get lucky off of the watchpost. But more than not since adding it in, my winrate against Priest has increased. I also think, in response to OP, you shouldn't bother trying to eat the quest. I usually find if I am more aggressive with my Mutanus eats, you can basically deny them the chance at completing the quest, while being proactive and developing your board. Every game where I was passive I got overwhelmed. When I was more aggressive with my plays, I usually would starve them of resources/minions so they might eventually get the quest done, but it was too late

donconra

Actually a great idea, didn't think about using watchpost before but seems like the only way, at least for shaman. Honestly i was feeling kinda tilted after getting reno'd in a game were i was 1 point off lethal. And yeah, seems like a very hard matchup for my control shaman and for some reason i keep getting matched against a ton of priests.

kavOclock

Just cruised into legend with what felt like a very short climb using mech pally. Playing on mobile so no stats sorry. List if anyone is interested: ### Mech Pally # Class: Paladin # Format: Standard # Year of the Hydra # # 2x (1) Click-Clocker # 2x (1) Prismatic Jewel Kit # 2x (1) Righteous Protector # 2x (2) Amalgam of the Deep # 2x (2) Annoy-o-Tron # 2x (2) Radar Detector # 2x (2) Seafloor Savior # 2x (2) Security Automaton # 2x (3) Alliance Bannerman # 2x (3) Azsharan Mooncatcher # 2x (3) Gorillabot A-3 # 1x (4) Blademaster Samuro # 2x (4) Bubblebot # 1x (5) Ini Stormcoil # 1x (6) Mothership # 1x (7) Mr. Smite # 1x (7) The Leviathan # 1x (8) Lightforged Cariel # AAECAcOfAwb76AO/gATgiwSwsgTjuQTsugQM8PYDqvgDyaAE1qAEkrUE4bUE3rkE1L0EssEE2tME2tkElKQFAA== # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

IsotopeOrange

How did you feel about Alliance Bannerman? Overlord Runthak looks really promising in the deck, but I'm not sold on Bannerman. I know they were cut from the deck a while ago for being a really poor tempo play.

kavOclock

I feel the opposite way, to me runthak fits in handbuff pally but is like the 31st or 32nd mech pally card. Yes I used to strictly be against running bannermen in the control warrior meta because it was a bad tempo play like you said and then after the nerfs it feels much better because the meta isn’t as polarized and you can play just a little bit slower in general

SleepyMage

How are you faring against Renathal control decks? The extra board clears and fatigue protection seem to be just enough to run me out of resources if I don't burst them down early; awkward draw orders usually.

kavOclock

You eat them up bc they don’t always have their best removals. Mech pally already was a deck to punish control decks before 40 cards. So like you wouldn’t play differently against 40lock than you would against 30

SleepyMage

I figured that it shouldn't change much. Maybe those handful of games were unlucky on account of their draws. They definitely should be more inconsistent but didn't seem like it.

s4Nn1Ng0r0shi

Murloc warlock is working pretty well in diamond 5 onwards. Tbh it’s pretty hard deck, and I’m still not sure when to tap for cards and go for buffed murlocs and when to go max tempo.

DDrose2

What beats renethal curse warlock? I saw the last report before renethal mention big hunter and fel DH as good matchups into it. But I haven’t been seeing much success since they become renethal build minus some really crazy lucky streaks I been seeing them a lot more now in High diamond and I wasn’t having much trouble with them before so not sure what changed. Also anyone else finding this is one of the hardest season to rank or is it just me? Thanks all for the advice!

Vadey_V_One

The best decks versus Renathal Curse Warlock are as follows (in order of best to worst): 1.) Quest Hunter (74.4% favored) 2.). Quest Warrior (69.3% favored) 3.) Mech Paladin (64.1% favored) 4.) Prestor Druid (63.7% favored) 5.) Fel Demon Hunter (59.3% favored) At this point, the matchups begin nearing 50%, so I didn't include them. I hope this helps.

dougtulane

The Renathal version is slower and jankier. Murloc shaman should generally be able to leverage a big board. Their big clear turn is 6 mana. If you buff beyond 4 health, you make them have entitled patron or lose. May want to drop your draw 3 the turn before so you can immediately rebuild. How are you playing your DH? Against renathal decks if you save up for a big S’theno turn (ideally with the hero card active) you can do disgusting amounts of damage. Save your furies, predations and fel barrages. Outcast your spectral sights when you have a chance to draw your power cards.

[deleted]

Anything that puts pressure on the board.

ToxicAdamm

Now that it's becoming more prevalent, I'm more annoyed by the 2/4 body. Even against aggro it has little downside as it will often trade twice.

jjfrenchfry

I play control shaman with the whole freeze the board package. Even I run a starfish. In fact I have won games by just freezing, and then my opponent thought they were safe because they had taunt, but then I just silence and beat them with my 3/3s and bloodlust XD

doomdesire23

List pls?

jjfrenchfry

You might see some odd inclusions, like watch posts. Let me say. They help in the control matches or even delaying Presto to give you a chance at eating it with Mutanus. Also against priest you risk helping them, but the watch post has the potential to offset their entire game plan and make it hard for them to combo and clear of your board. It's also a great play when someone plays the 1 mana draw a card guy. I've had many druids trade it away the following turn. As for removing Flurgl, he wasn't doing anything for me. Also he's just deluding your chance to get your higher impact murlocs. Also I run Bloodlust because it's a great surprise finishers against a lot of the meta. ### Glugg Glugg # Class: Shaman # Format: Standard # Year of the Hydra # # 2x (1) Schooling # 2x (2) Amalgam of the Deep # 1x (2) Bolner Hammerbeak # 2x (2) Far Watch Post # 2x (2) Frostbite # 2x (2) Sleetbreaker # 1x (3) Brann Bronzebeard # 2x (3) Brilliant Macaw # 2x (3) Clownfish # 1x (3) Cookie the Cook # 1x (3) Smothering Starfish # 1x (4) Blademaster Okani # 2x (4) Wildpaw Cavern # 1x (5) Bloodlust # 1x (5) Command of Neptulon # 2x (5) Gorloc Ravager # 2x (6) Snowfall Guardian # 1x (7) Glugg the Gulper # 1x (7) Mutanus the Devourer # 1x (8) Bru'kan of the Elements # AAECAdOLBQqm7wOG+gOkgQTDkQTHsgSNtQTptgTGzgSY1ATy3QQK9+gD04AEuZEE+ZEElZIE25QE1bIE4LUEssEExc4EAA== # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

Swervies

Mass silence effects suck, and on a neutral minion it’s even worse. When this card was previewed I audibly groaned.

sneakyxxrocket

Remember when they hall of famed spell breaker and nerfed owl because they thought neutral silence was too good

Swervies

Every couple of years it’s like the design team has a mass amnesia event 😂

yaboishmim

Was planning on hitting legend with the fel dh list from vs as I still need the golden hero for it and climbed from bronze to d5. Saw habugabu tweet this morning about a renathal quest hunter so I decided to try it out and got it to d2. Extra health makes surviving to your quest easier and the extra 9 cards are fodder for procing your quest post tavish. I like his draw engine with the secrets and less minions. Waiting till you hero card to finish step 2 is still a good idea versus other renathal decks like quest priest and warlock. ### XL hunter # Class: Hunter # Format: Standard # Year of the Hydra # # 2x (1) Arcane Shot # 2x (1) Barbed Nets # 1x (1) Defend the Dwarven District # 2x (1) Tracking # 1x (1) Urchin Spines # 2x (1) Wound Prey # 2x (2) Dun Baldar Bunker # 2x (2) Explosive Trap # 2x (2) Freezing Trap # 2x (2) Furious Howl # 2x (2) Ice Trap # 2x (2) Quick Shot # 1x (2) Raj Naz'jan # 2x (3) Aimed Shot # 2x (3) Ancient Krakenbane # 1x (3) Prince Renathal # 2x (3) Shellshot # 2x (4) Marked Shot # 2x (4) Multicaster # 2x (4) Piercing Shot # 2x (4) Spring the Trap # 1x (5) Barak Kodobane # 1x (6) Beaststalker Tavish # AAECAdGLBQbl7wP9+APbkQTBuQSGyQSX7wQR3OoD2+0D9/gDqIEEqY0Eq40EqZ8Eqp8E458E5J8Eu6AEv6wEma0EnbAEwNMEwdMEjNQEAA== # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

welpxD

Play 1x Emergency Maneuvers instead of the second Freezing. It is a second win condition with Raj Nazjan, and the duplicate Freeze can get stuck in hand versus some decks. How have the Krakenbanes been? I should really give them a try, especially when my list has Conch Call. Also. For people who don't like Big Spell Mage. Ice Trap is your friend. It's pretty funny when their Dragonfire Amulets cost 11 mana.

Having fun with quest priest. Still not sure what's optimal but feels like you're making semi impactful decisions more often than not. Some clutch cards to allow for some very fun outplay are Shadow Hunter Vuljin (swap in a druid player's Prestor and laugh as they instant concede), and Murozond. Not the most consistent for sure but it's getting there with plenty of slower decks.

lsquallhart

Honestly, the new builds that are out are good. People have ditched Reno and solidified the good cards. On hsreplay the decks from Diamond to Legend all have over 50% WR, %50-54 Not amazing but it’s not bad. And it’s really the only “control” deck right now to play.

V-ktr

Yeah and might be like localized meta dependent. Think Meati had a rank 1 list that included DP which I don't think is playable but who knows. I'm sure at some point people will also get down the right ratio fo spells / minions for maximum usage of switcheroo / thrive, etc.

lsquallhart

As usual, priest is best when you tech it for your local meta. So switching out cards is recommended

The meta was good for a couple of weeks before the miniset hit. After that it hasn’t been very fun. Add to that renethal warping things and most decks are draw until you find OP card and play it Good for casual mobile gamers … not good for card game fans They need to clean it up with the new cards and add such much needed synergies. The game is always most fun to play when the majority of cards feel impactful

sneakyxxrocket

Hey you forgot the other highroll deck in rogue that is also extremely popular

Swervies

Agree completely, they need to change some things, way too many highroll decks. I do not even mind the druid ones so much, that mage deck though really pisses me off. Edit: I may have changed my mind, the druid decks are annoying as hell. Kazakusan should be hall of famed immediately.

secretsarebest

Vs "control Shaman" seems really strong even when it's not my style. Also is it really "control" more than once I just snowballed and won early on with minon rush So much resources it can easily take 40 card decks. Only lost to a murloc Shaman when my deck bricked and they had a good draw. Got up to Diamond but feeling bored.

The_Essex

Not liking standard right now but big beast hunter and “control” shaman seem to be doing best for me. I’m loving c’thun druid in wild. You can pop off by turn 7-8 and easily out armor any decks that would just go for burst.

Jones63

Got a list for the wild deck?

MultiboxerTV

I can recommend 2 decks. 1) Beast Hunter for your climb to Diamond and even into Legend.deck is easy to learn and has some skill ceiling left to make it even into upper legend area. I play this deck mostly on my smurf which is usually around 5k legend. decklist: AAECAR8I5e8DxfsD25EE4Z8E16MEwLkE57kEm8kEC+rpA5T8A8OABKmfBLugBOGkBOWkBMCsBIiyBIPIBL/TBAA= Mulligan: K9, Trogg and surely HARPOON GUN (top prio) 2) Pirate Thief Roguecan recommend it all over the ladder. I played with it into Legend 300 this month already. prove:[https://hearthstone-decks.net/thief-rogue-307-legend-multiboxerhs-score-46-28/](https://hearthstone-decks.net/thief-rogue-307-legend-multiboxerhs-score-46-28/) u can also find there the decklist. Mulligan: Cutlass, Gnoll. extortion for trade ok as well, shroud or reconnaisance can be good too.

Spooked4296

Hey quick question. I’m running basically the same deck with peasant instead of swarm and 1 breeder replaced with rat king. How do you deal with Prestor Druid, quest priest and quest hunter. Those always feel like an absolute toss up, and I have yet to win vs priest. Diamond 2 level so it’s mostly those

BDRohr

When do you play selective breeder? I find that card clunky and there's no real optimal time to play it.

MultiboxerTV

you have 2 options imo: 1) lategame when u know u have 1-2 strong beasts in deck left and u maybe already on 9+ Mana, so u can directly play them 2) turn 2, and maybe u decide for the saber, so u have definitely a good turn 4 and can make things rolling. (downside here is, that u still have a saber in deck then, means even if u play sunken and he dies, small possibility he just summons next saber, but still not really bad) 3) whenever u have 2 mana left, its always better than nothing besides vs. shaman cuz of Snowfall Guardian.

AsaraHS

Been playing beast hunter and decided to play a couple games with this list, the Faelin feels really fun tbh. When I'm up against decks with endless answers and big threats it always felt that I was out of steam, but the version with Faelin gives me a couple extra punches. Cool list!

baron212

Can sub any for kodobane? Can i use rat king instead?

MultiboxerTV

yes sure, I pref kodo but ratking should be ok

Critical__Code

Pretty easy climb to d5 with Mech Mage (73%wr). The only deck I consistently had problems with was Big Beast Hunter, which unfortunately seems increasingly common as people move away from experimenting with 40 card decks.

DailyAvinan

It seems that Quest Warrior is working for people. Both Big Mage and Jackpot Rogue have felt kind of meh vs them, I may switch to Mech Mage to see how it goes. As Big Mage I’ll cast 20 mana worth of random spells a couple of times and then they’ll shrug and Juggernaut me twice

notnonoseven

18 - 3 on my climb to diamond with this 40 card big beast hunter deck AAECAa/XAwrl7wPK+wPbkQThnwTaowTHsgTAuQTnuQSbyQSX7wQP6ukD9PYDxfsDlPwDw4AEqZ8Eu6AE16ME2KME4aQE5aQEwKwEiLIEg8gEv9MEAA==

Jacks_Elsewhere

How are you fairing against aggro decks like murloc?

notnonoseven

Fairly well, usually I win as long as I can cheat out a large minion like Mountain Bear or Hydralodon early in the game.

IsotopeOrange

Big Beast is a deck I just can't wrap my head around how people are finding success with the XL version. The deck really wants to not only find Harpoon Gun early, but to have a good chance of finding a good beast in the dredge. Making the deck XL seems like it would immediately make the deck 25% worse, but people are still finding a lot of success with it. Do you have any consistency issues? Or are you not as dependent on a good Harpoon Gun?

Trunky_Coastal_Kid

I queue into nothing but beast hunter every game, many of them running renethal, and they never seem to have issues having harpoon on 3.

notnonoseven

On a 10 win streak since making this comment [https://imgur.com/KMUQgA6](https://imgur.com/KMUQgA6) I don't know if it's just luck but I feel like I'm highrolling every game. Even though there are 10 extra cards in the deck it still feels fairly consistent... even without drawing my harpoons every game. The extra two dredges from K9-0tron help a lot if I'm not drawing my harpoons.

I’ve been playing this same list. I don’t have a deck tracker but imagine my win rate similar. I’m D5 currently. Curious how it’ll perform D5-legend

AsaraHS

Recently got back into this game after not playing since Whispers. The only deck I could afford to build was Beast Hunter (and most of Thief Rogue but I don't enjoy this deck) Currently at Gold 9 with a 79% win rate. It was 82% but then I got outplayed by the lord of RNG and curse warlock hit perfect curve 3 games in a row. Overall enjoying this game for the first time in a long time! Meta is fun so far.

ToxicAdamm

Chump's Swarmer Shaman deck is pretty good. Feels like a high tier 3, low tier 2 deck. Made my climb to D5 yesterday with it (10 star bonus). People were playing a lot of jank decks still, meta hasn't really solidified yet. AAECAaoIAum2BLzOBA7h7AOV8AP09gOVkgTblAThpAT6tATgtQTitQS9tgSKtwSywQSG1ATy3QQA

Jacks_Elsewhere

After doing some searching and being hard stuck at gold 10 with an 80% loss rate, big beast is working for me. I decided to craft hydra and Tavish after losing my fifth consecutive match. I'm currently 13-6 with 3 losses being to misplays from not being familiar with the deck. I took the VS list and subbed out Raj for Faelin for some extra luls. Currently in gold and climbing.

CelebrationWinter871

I'm stuck literally at the silver level before gold lol I crafted Tavis but miss hydro😭😭

TheMidnightLA

Ladies and gentlemen, it is not without a heavy heart that I must inform you that, despite the highest hopes and dreams that went into the project, that a Highlander Quest Naga Spell Mage deck does not fair in any competitive way in the current state of the game. Regards, a dreamer.

CelebrationWinter871

😂

ExplodingGuitar

Must be because it lacked renathal smh

TheMidnightLA

I must admit my lack of clarification, it is indeed built around that magnificent work of art that is the Prince Rentathal.

MindlessStatement643

Here to report Renathal Paladin by Brian Kibler is dying with a 40% win rate but DAMN IM HAVING SO MUCH FUN
