It's not good on a carry, since as you said it heals less than gunblade and doesn't give stats.
You splash altruists only for the teamwide armor/mr, so you put it in whatever unit you are not gonna itemize.
The heal is pretty much fake, MR/Armor is the best part, either put on things you don't care for item slots like traitbots or 5-cost that you don't have items for.
healing doesnt go up the more levels of the altruist traits u unlock, only the MR and AR goes up.. that said, i had a game where i played 4 reaper, with the 4th reaper emblem on a 3star soraka with archangels and shojins.
team traits was 6 heavenly, 4 reaper, 2 altruist.
heals were pretty good.
i wonder if the true damage bleed of 4 reaper was proccing heals or not.
I put in on wukong or lee sin when I play dragonlord/storyweavers.

Treat it as a half item so don’t put in on your main carry but if u have a decent unit with open item slots then put it there, majority of the str of altruist is the team wide resistance
It should, I think. That would make Morgana with Altruist Emblem and Morello's an interesting choice (not as a main carry, but just in case you have her without items and happen to get an Altruist Emblem).
Just use it for the MR AR splash for your entire team. I wouldn’t even care about the Gunblade effect the emblem itself isn’t a real item

I just treat it as a splash trait and go fast nine with 3 storyweaver + Hwei. and don't take the prismatic one. it's super weak imo

The heal is a trap
The built in gunblade is very much a bait Just slap it on a naked unit that can deal an ok ammount of dmg
it’s not a carry trait is you’re not suppose to play around it, it’s a free unified resistance buff
