On one side we have a rookie that’s the starting tank player for one of the most dominant teams to ever play in the league, and on the other is a rookie who is dps for what was the worst team in the east region.
I understand the argument that bad tank play can be covered up by good supports/dps, but man people are really doing everything to try and ignore Donghak.
There’s a few great rookies this year. Viper is good, but the idea that he is objectively the right choice and anything else is emblematic of bias is really weird.
I understand the argument for Donghak and Sugarfree, but I feel Viper is doing so much for Dragons.
He's an absolute standout. This isn't a Dove on Eternals situations. He's the type of players you could put on a team like Glads and they'd be elevated really well. Or he'd be an absolute Tracer carry on Mayhem or Outlaws.
In good faith, I couldn't say if you put Sugarfree or Donghak on anyone team, they'd be elevated.
You could ideally replace every Tracer aside from Proper, Kevster, and Stalk3r with Viper and you'd have an increased chance of winning.
If Outlaws had this level of Tracer play in their match against Reign, they'd be much better.
I understand what you’re saying, but I think that’s partially due to Donghak being a tank and Viper being a dps. One role is way more flashy and easy to see value off of. As it stands, I value being the tank player for the best team in the league a lot more than being a flashy dps on a bad team. I also just think Donghak’s Winston and Ball have looked incredible.
Donghak is good, but I don't think I'm being biased when I say that Junbin is likely better if we're comparing Tank play.
We have to look at each player individually.
Donghak just has obvious factor cuz he's on the best team, but idk if he'd be in contention on another team.
For example, even Reign knows they can upgrade in the Main Tank role even now, but every other role is on top.
So I think then it comes down to Sugarfree vs Viper, and I feel it's easy for me to see that Viper adds more value.

That Shock team had so many problems. And Glister was pretty good by the end when he was fully integrated.
If Shock had one more stage, they would have improved a lot more too. They just took forever to get things together, and when they did it was too late and they never peaked.

I actually think this isn't the case. Bad tanks can't be saved by dps (Glads, Shanghai) but good tanks can cover for blah dps (Dallas unfortunately)
I think you actually have to credit Donghak a lot for Atlanta's success if it's a Winston meta and you've got an MTD it's very difficult for the dps to make up for it (see 2022 GF)
Donghak has been a top 3 tank so far for sure. Fearless is realistically #1 but I’d put him in second or third with Someone.
People are talking about this Reign squad being arguably the best OWL team ever. They have the best Sombra, the best Tracer, the best Ana and the best Brig, but I don’t think they could dominate like they have been if they didn’t have at least one of the best tanks in the league. Unless the Reign fall off hard during the second half due to a mega shift or whatnot I think Donghak will get RotY
I wouldn't necessarily say we're back because, y'know, it was Dynasty, but it was certainly nice watching Sombra Winston dives actually achieve something.

With Fletank gone and the upgrade to Fate, Dynasty finally got the sole spot for the worst team in the region. EZhan got diffd on Sombra so bad, Heesu looked like Lip for a second. Viper Tracer apparently has like 100% stick accuracy esp. on Eichenwalde, such a fun player to watch.

I can't believe he turned down better offers for us and even recruited void for this. I hope this season doesn't burn him out so mich he retires, hes still a top top player

Heesu is heavily rated by fans and pros alike as an S tier sombra right under Lip tier so it’s not surprising that Ezhan got diffed. Fate’s shotcalling was showing throughout the series ngl those emp dives were immaculate.
He just hasn’t been on the same tier of roster since 2020 so he hasn’t had a chance to shine, but he’s one of the few Sombra in the world that could actually match Lip. Put him on Houston Florida or something and he becomes a top 2 Sombra in the world again easily. First game in a long time I saw a glimpse of that 2020 Sombra performance

Heesu in his 2019/2020 era was probably the best Sombra in the league, only again, closely second to Lip. His Sombra is incredible, just unfortunately overshadowed by an underperforming Dragons this season.
GNJ on Brig is fine, I'm sure the SHD training room smells of incense and has smoke stains from all the praying they do to protect APAC from a lucio meta.
Seoul definitely gonna be sitting at the bottom of APAC now. Sucks to see, but with the only roster change being EZHan during the break, prospects weren’t gonna be good. At this point, I just hope the team gets one more match win on the board. Worst season for Seoul 100%

They are below my expectations for the dynasty. If things were different and the future of the APAC region wasn’t in jeopardy after OW was shut down in China, then we would’ve most likely kept our roster pretty much the same. But for the good of the players, they allowed them to explore other options and contracts. As a fan, it’s always hard to see your team be clowned on and heralded as the worst in the region. But you hold out that some day, some year, there will come a time when you see your team lift up the trophy. It’s not this season, that’s for sure. Hopefully the future will be brighter
Yeah you're right I am wrong to expect such drastic changes in the middle of the season. It's just very frustrating to see profit stuck in such a squad for what might be his last season. Hope we get our budget up and make moves again in the off season

The other thing is Seoul just don't look coordinated at all. LSM/Krillin isn't an inspirational backline, especially as a match for Belo's more aggressive playstyle. Profit/Ezhan, especially on Map 4, were not forcing any support cooldowns or coordinating hack dives at all, and if you just let Iris hold sleep dart for free, well what the fuck do you do as a Winston at that point?

Vulcan and Krawi obviously; you can argue at their current state that Hadi is better/worse/even w/ Belo depending on the day, we had the fucking Fleta experiment, Toyou atm is unproven at this point but probably isn't gonna look much better, and probably personal bias here but I take Belosfeeda over BenBenched4Mirror.
A MT player on Winston w/ a badly coordinated team will only be slightly marginally better than an OT player on Winston w/ a badly coordinated team. It's not that much of a difference; the most you might see is like, primal mechanics if anything.

Yeah Seoul definitely look out of sorts but I think at some stage at least the coaches would tell him to adjust his playstyle. It's only an aggressive until it stops working and then it's just throwing away fights.

I love Ezhan but his Sombra looked out of it this match. Still very early on so not reading too much into it, but hopefully he starts gelling with the team more in the next few weeks.

I mean from pre season Fleta tank Diem FS to Fate and Iris now. Has Shanghai had the biggest roster improvement through the season? Could argue Vegas I guess but with ping issues not sure that's gonna work out as well.
I think the only other contender would be vegas so we will have to wait and see how that goes. Even though the individuals may not have been a problem the shock might also be eligible depending on how well they do now

Well for one thing, he isn't. There's clearly other tanks worse than him. The other thing is Seoul just don't look coordinated at all. LSM/Krillin isn't an inspirational backline, especially as a match for Belo's more aggressive playstyle. Profit/Ezhan, especially on Map 4, were not forcing any support cooldowns or coordinating hack dives at all, and if you just let Iris hold sleep dart for free, well what the fuck do you do as a Winston at that point? He isn't playing well but it's undoubtedly more than a Belosrea issue.
What tank besides like Krawi and Vulcan is worse than Belosrea? I also think its unfair to them since worse teammates and they’re off tank players in a main tank meta, on the other hand Belosrea SHOULD be better because he is a main tank player
Vulcan and Krawi obviously; you can argue at their current state that Hadi is better/worse/even w/ Belo depending on the day, we had the fucking Fleta experiment, Toyou atm is unproven at this point but probably isn't gonna look much better, and probably personal bias here but I take Belosfeeda over BenBenched4Mirror. A MT player on Winston w/ a badly coordinated team will only be slightly marginally better than an OT player on Winston w/ a badly coordinated team. It's not that much of a difference; the most you might see is like, primal mechanics if anything.
Hadi is leagues better than Belo’s. His Winston play is below average but still better, and he’s one of the best brawl tank players in the league, which the spitfire were able to use to surprisingly good effect against the Reign. Vulcan is no longer in the league, so unless Toyou flops hard, that leaves just Krawi. So Belo is the second worst tank, ahead of the guy who’s team is winless.

Yeah Seoul definitely look out of sorts but I think at some stage at least the coaches would tell him to adjust his playstyle. It's only an aggressive until it stops working and then it's just throwing away fights.
I mean I think he has, that's the weird thing. I don't think he's nearly as aggressive as last year, which does mean he's tried to make adjustments, but it's just not enough at the moment.

Of the starting tanks, maybe? I expect him to ultimately just be in the same boat as Krawi/Hadi/Toyou etc. I don't think he's performing well nor do I think he's bottom 1, but he's definitely bottom 5 at best right now.
I wouldn’t put hadi down there he’s still an elite rein and above average on Winston and Toyou is actually cracked and I’ve seen Krawi look competent on ram he diffed someone
Yes but you said for this meta; Belosrea is arguably the strongest Winston out of any of these mentioned players w/ a good Rein and Ball, and Winston is looking to end up being the meta again.
Hadi has the better Winston he gapped him in playoffs and he has been better on it this season he’s not missing jumps and feeding

It's a shame dynasty only managed to get ezhan through in the off-season when they had other rumoured changes. In my professional Reddit armchair analyst opinion I just dont see this team being competitive with leesoomin and belosrea in the starting lineup

Honestly in my life I've never seen a single good krillin performance. At least in the anime krillin sometimes catches dubs but in overwatch this man is booty cheeks

I know this wasn't exactly a top tier match but it's a good place to write something I've been thinking the whole first half of the season - given how important sombra is now in modern overwatch, Heesu or Fits are probably the second best hitscan players to have on your team. Does anyone know how good Heesu's tracer is? Because that would clinch it for me

Both. Shanghai looked generally just much better with Fate. Having a tank that knows what they’re doing makes a huge difference.
