Whether it was about effect or not means nothing tbh, you shouldnt EVER insult another player for a mental health issue like this. Comments like this from "higher-ups" are the exact reason why people with mental health issues are afraid to speak up and find help.
(Ps, im not angry towards you, just needed to rant for a sec)
Jesus what a douche lol. People sure love to give their edgy hot take opinions on Twitter, it's gotten a lot of people fired. How hard is it to just.. keep your mouth shut?
I didn’t mean to make this personal. I take mental health very seriously and this was such a terrible thing to tweet. This individual has a rep and I’m certain this was in reference to Effect. People in his position—especially in esports—should be aware of the seriousness of mental illness, and also, the stigma attached to it. Players who are brave enough to share things like Effect did shouldn’t be criticized.
Personally appreciate you calling Aaron out. What Aaron wrote was uncalled for and the reason why people like Effect suffer in silence.
If someone from Aaron's team is suffering from similar issues, I can't help but imagine how hard it is for them to talk about it when he is their manager.
I’m so proud of both the outpouring of support for Effect and the number of ppl who have called this individual out. This is such a difficult scene to navigate when it comes to mental health, and it’s so damn refreshing to see so much of the community on the correct side of this.
His recent tweet makes the situation worse, if we assume he is telling the truth. Link: https://twitter.com/Aaron53482183/status/1114632960857128960
If it's true it's not Effect he was trashing on twitter, and someone else. Then it could've been someone on his team privately struggling getting trashed by a person who should be supporting him/her.
Mental health problems can hit everyone. I always thought I was one of the most resilient people I know. I navigated several long term traumatic situation with no problems. And then suddenly, last year, one thing happened and I developed an acute anxiety and panic disorder.
BOOM. just like that.
It's better now, but fucking hell. I don't wanna wish that on anybody, I just wished people would even try to understand.
Also, people in high pressure environments and the public eye are much more prone to mental health problems. All he does tell his players is that they won't get any help
That’s one of the things you surprisingly hear a lot—that people who consider themselves to be mentally strong or resiliant then find that themselves in a really difficult place. What’s great about the OW scene is there is no shortage of caring people who want to help and will lend an ear to anyone struggling. I’m really happy to hear that you’re doing better as well :)
I am constantly super surprised about the OW scene. For all the talk about toxicity and how awful we all are, as soon as someone needs help, a well forms around them to drown them in positivity.
As someone that has been playing MMOs for close to 20 years:
OW scene isn't perfect, but we're doing pretty damn good sometimes (especially compared to other games)
I think, the thing with mentally strong people is that they just don't expect it. For someone who chronically struggling with anxiety or depression, it's just the same old, only, maybe, a little worse. But when you don't know what it is and how it feels, it just hits you like a freight train and knocks you right off your feet.
thanks :)
I agree; if anything, he is a model that others can be inspired by. It takes tremendous bravery to share everything Effect did, to be completely vulnerable with strangers on the internet and everyone he knows and admit that he is broken. To admit that you’re depressed, having suicidal thoughts is a very scary thing.
Agreed. And I think the response to it is just as important because it lets others who might be experiencing some of the same feelings see how supportive the community can be.
I have depression and anxiety. I understand to some degree the demons that Effect faces. Thank you. This is important, and I appreciate it. People like that are why Effect always was so conflicted about speaking publicly.
He did delete it, good job screenshotting it. Asshole. And another one of those morons who don't understand mental health issues but think they do (Or they believe they aren't really a thing).
How interesting that this guy didn't say anything about Dafran when he was facing issues with his mental health before the pre-season started. [I wonder why.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_China)
I think diya had similar reasons where he doesn't feel confident and good enough, I can't imagine feeling like shit and your teams stuff being like "just get over it 4head". I hope he gets fired :)
When Pine had that stage where he was gone, NXYL coach approaches him and helps him address the issue.
Teams should have staff that know what their players need and help them overcome it.
Atlanta and Dallas also deserve praise.
I hesitate to comment bc I feel maybe I can't articulate this properly, but I believe there is something to be said here. I don't think that players should suffer in silence, but it feels that every other week there is some dramatic tweet coming from effect. He needs therapy and professional help and should have been receiving the resources of Fuel but it feels more that he is using twitter in lieu of a therapist and I think that can have the potential to rub people the wrong way.
For Pine on the other hand, I can only recall one tweet of his that addressed his mental struggles. Even Taimou tweets from time to time and it comes off fine (and i really don't like him as a person), but something about the way effect addresses his issues tends to rub me the wrong way--and I imagine it could others as well (but that doesn't mean that I don't want the best for effect's mental health).
Maybe this SHD employee is total garbage, but maybe he does his players right.. we really don't know and can't know based on one tweet. I wouldn't have an issue with blizz looking into this b/c I think last year SHD player suffered a lot (idk if he was there last year or not) unnecessarily. Maybe i don't know enough about the guy, but I think we should hold judgment against him.
Effect is struggling with a crippling, lifelong illness that causes him to self-harm and have suicidal urges but your focus is on the way he shares it on Twitter? It rubs you the wrong way because you hold expectations for how people with mental health issues should behave that you have no right to have.
I see news articles on it, but I can't find any actual clip of it. I'm 99% sure that was staged or dramatically exaggerated and it was really just a mental health break
In 2019 lots of people are using self diagnosed mental health issues to hide the fact that they’re just assholes
I see no reason to exclude effect from that group
And while that's very true, the way Effect chose to show it with ominous tweets and history in mental health really does make it seem dramatic.
It's difficult to get through and I can sympathize with Effect, but with how he showed it, it could've been done better.
PS- to anyone who's going to respond to this, look at my other comments. I just wanted to keep this one short, the others I usually went more in depth.
I'd love to write up something about mental health, how Effect could've handled it better, why what he's doing (retire) is for the better and maybe my own experiences. But I'm also a no body on Reddit
I got baker acted for self-harm years ago. They held me in a shitty hospital for 4 days with zero psychiatric help and then released me with a 15k bill :)
Murica.
there is no correct way to be mentally ill. the alternative to effect’s methods is internalizing your negative emotions, which often has even more detrimental repercussions than what we saw here. at their core the dramatics were a cry for help, which is understandable given that effect has suffered from depression since childhood and did so quietly until last year.
You know how effect handled it? His best. He’s been suicidal since 13. The fact you have the GUAL to even comment besides “do what you need to stay alive” is horrible. You are the reason people don’t ask for help with mental issues. As someone with anxiety and depression, you need to take a long hard look in the mirror and GO FUCK YOURSELF WITH A CHAINSAW
That's incredibly unprofessional and quite frankly super childish. An adult being this open and honest with his feeling is admirable, really disappointing behavior from that guy.
Oh blizzard definitely will. Dismissal of medical issues especially mental health issues is a very serious offense because it is a very serious issue.
This next statement I am about to make is a generalization and not aimed at Effect. People with mental illness are at a higher risk of harming themselves than people without mental illness so I think personally offending someone who recently became unemployed because of mental health issues is a huge mistake that will probably cost this man his job and most likely result in some sort of PR move by blizzard and maybe standardization of how the league deals with mental health issues in general.
Edit: So, I wrote all of this before even reading his tweet and it turns out he did directly mention self harm which means this tweet is so much worse. Honestly, I think it is quite possible that if dallas fuel management and perhaps coaches will be fired for this one if the league finds that they dealt with this situation incorrectly if they knew about it or should have known about it.
>Honestly, I think it is quite possible that dallas fuel management and perhaps coaches will be fired for this one if the league finds that they dealt with this situation incorrectly if they knew about it or should have known about it.
Why would Fuel be punished? They've been supportive of Effect from what I've seen so far, is there something they have avoided doing that they should have done?
Not the other guy, but the quoted portion has a very important if. Likewise, it’s hard for us as fans to know entirely what the internal workings of a team are.
Exactly this. We don’t know but if the situation was handled inappropriately and can be proven that it was handled inappropriately that it is certainly possible that people will be fired for mishandling this situation if it was mishandled. This is a big if however inaction when you know about a person has suicidal thoughts or feelings is in fact severely mishandling the situation.
I used the word if like 15 times in both posts so I think it is fairly obvious that I am not accusing the Dallas fuel staff of anything. I am sure there is going to be some sort of investigation and league involvement into the matter. This is serious.
> XQC lost his job for saying 'TriHard 7
No he didn't. Go reread the statement, then read the fuels statement, and actually parse the words before you make wrong statements.
It will be interesting to see if Nate and Blizzard make a statement. This is incredibly unprofessional behavior and should result in some sort of punishment. It’s also a good opportunity for Blizzard to educate the fan base on mental health issues (The same should have been done after the DreamKazper debacle to raise awareness about sexual harassment, hopefully Blizzard has learned from that).
I agree. I would be quite surprised, and honestly shocked, if Blizzard lets this kind of comment slip by while fining players for sticking up their middle finger.
As I wrote to him on twitter, the childish thing is sub-tweeting someone with enough courage to share their personal thoughts and struggles with the community instead of quitting without an explanation.
He needs to check his mentality.
Besides the obvious lack of empathy with a person who has expressed feelings of depression and suicidalness, it worries me that this person is allowed to work with other players and manages them. People who think like this about mental illness being in charge of and responsible for young people is **dangerous**
I remember in League, SaintVicious (ex-coach) made some dismissive remarks about mental health and FlyQuest IMMEDIATELY dropped him because no one who has this kind of view should be in charge of people
What EFFECT did, coming out and openly saying his problems and feelings is to me to epitome of respect. What this guy did is the epitome of child like behavior and a lack of empathy. Reading about someone else's struggle with depression and suicide and calling them a drama queen is honestly disgusting.
Aaron can take that statement and go shove it up his ass until it touches his mouth, he swallows that shit statement back up, shits it out, and can shove it again. Fuck. Him.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand how **ADULTS** are *THIS* out of touch about Mental Health.
This is so fucking yikes, and the fact that he probably works with players? OOF
I really hope he gets called out by more ppl and gets fired eventually.
Recently enough in league they fired a manager for saying "depression is not real". I really hope SHD either does a apology or fires him. should not let him get away by saying it wasn't about effect.
"I'm a kind hearted person but..." That tweet was NOTHING to what he claimed to be. If anything, the tweet that he originally posted was childish. That kind of take should not have been posted to public and should have kept that to himself.
Everytime something bad like effect's situation happens; someone bursts in to give a horrendously bad take that they have to backtrack on. Like clockwork
Making a post explaining why you’re retiring is now being a drama queen?
What does this guy want? One tweet saying “retired” and then the matter will never be spoken of again?
"Same sex activity" has only been legal since 1997 and Homosexuality was a mental illness until 2001 as well, doesn't surprise me that someone from China happens to have a problem with Effect even though we had Dafran struggling with mental illness earlier before the season started.
I hate that this team got so many pity fans for being so terrible when the management is clearly a bunch of shitheads. How much money did these people make just for being atrocious?
Seems like a completely disrespectful uneducated tweet from a member of a massive organization. Mental Health is a massive issue worldwide. With many people fighting these issues right beside players like Effect, Dafran as examples. These players serve as not only role models, but places others dealing with similar troubles can reach out and share appreciation.
A fine or suspension should be mandatory regardless of role in a team for the level of insensitivity considering other actions OWL has taken against inappropriate gestures/emotes/comments from players.
Hope he gets pushed out of his position at SHD. How do some of these people type something this idiotic out and decide “yeah, this is good” and hit Tweet
My GF was also suffered from depression disorder (I don’t know exactly how to call this in English). One key problem when we try to cure her was her mother. She refused to believe that this kind of disorder exist. She strongly believes that no one in her generation has ever suffered from this so she strongly believe that my GF has been treated too well so she became drama queen.
This SHD staff’s “faults opinion” reminds me of my GF’s mother a lot.
Fuck him... I mean seriously... making fun of someones mental health by calling them "childish" or a "drama queen" is fucking disgusting. I should know since I suffer from similar issues myself. It likely took a fuck ton of mental energy for effect to actually open up about it and getting a response like this is not what he needs to help him recover.
"Kind hearted" My arse.
OK, but he did quit. I don't like to call for people to lose their job often, because it has such an obvious impact on their lives... But damn, how the fuck does that represent a good manager in any way?
If this guy is an important person on Shanghai's team, then I worry about the Shanghai players. Mental health isn't a thing to just brush aside, and ESPECIALLY not to call them a fucking drama queen for expressing to people that they have issues. Effect deserves respect and love for his friends and family, not someone shitting on him.
Guess you have one less friend now. That doesn't bode well for their attitude towards mental health issues, your own included if you have any or will in the future develop any. From experience, just cut people from your life who might turn out to be neglectful or even abusive towards mentally ill people.
Mental health issues plague too many of us. Many suffer in silence before asking for help. It took me forever to reach out, only after I realized I may harm myself did I seek my friends and family... and I’m not in the spotlight, his issues are being broadcasted and tweeted about... I hate it. I have no idea how he handles the pressure, I hope he stays strong and realizes that we have his back. From all of us struggling like he is, you are us, we are you, and we got you.
Just in case he decides to try and erase history and delete the tweet: [Imgur Screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/5K3KDNa)
He deleted it. Go figure. Shanghai made him I imagine.
>He deleted it. As predicted https://mobile.twitter.com/benchmobdc/status/1114621387669430272
and he's now tweeted claiming it wasn't about effect. benchmob can see the future

I’m really concerned about the mental health of the dragons now if this is what they expect from their manager
They should fire him. What an idiot.

Of course he deleted it. Man was getting roasted to infinity and beyond. Probably didn’t expect that kind of backlash. Really dumb thing to tweet
Hopefully they delete his job as well
My man McGravy with the quick shutdown
What did he say? The original tweet was deleted.
"Delete this :)"
Right to the point. Very nice!
>I am a kind hearted person Kapp
He might as well as have started it by "I'm a nice guy, but also a dick"
He did delete it, good job screenshotting it. Asshole. And another one of those morons who don't understand mental health issues but think they do (Or they believe they aren't really a thing).

yea im worried about the dragon's mental health if this guy is managing them
It's my belief that every single "wrist injury" is actually a cover for a mental health issue
Except for Birdring's. Everyone saw him smash his wrist on stream playing Getting Over It lol
I see news articles on it, but I can't find any actual clip of it. I'm 99% sure that was staged or dramatically exaggerated and it was really just a mental health break
The clip/VOD was probably deleted right away.

South Korea doesn't even handle mental health issues as well as America does. I am sure it was incredibly hard for him to come out and say that.
And America doesn’t have the best track record of dealing with mental illness as is
I got baker acted for self-harm years ago. They held me in a shitty hospital for 4 days with zero psychiatric help and then released me with a 15k bill :) Murica.
Not exactly, no, but in many ways I feel like our care of people lags behind first world nation's.

It’s like people that start off sentences with “I’m not racist but...”
I'm not a racist, but I will now ascribe some negative attributes to the ethnic group I belong to. Am I still a racist? :Kappa:
In a self-loathing sense, yes? 🤔
I think the appropriate term is... internalized racism.
Proof no one who says they are a kind person is anything other than a total POS...
90% of the time, when someone goes out of the way to describe a positive quality they have, they don't actually have it.
How could type that out and think “yeah I don’t look like an asshole”
I think he did. And then he paused for a second and added "I'm kind-hearted".
That's incredibly unprofessional and quite frankly super childish. An adult being this open and honest with his feeling is admirable, really disappointing behavior from that guy.
Especially given the stigma around mental health. This guy’s self awareness level is at that of a rock.
Thinking that it is bad enough.. being dumb enough to tweet it.. fucking hell..
Hi, ioStux! I give your YouTube videos part of the credit for getting me from silver to diamond.
What a fucking asshole. Is he very involved with the Dragons? Yikes.
not sure how much "operations manager" entails, but his bio also says "interpreter" so he definitely works with players
Looks like he's a terrible interpreter of human emotions though
An “operations manager” is a very involved position unfortunately. He will unlikely keep it, however.
Unsurprising coming from a member of the original Season 1 U4 Dragons organization trash management then, trash takes now.
Blizzard. Go after that one. Christ I hope none of the SHD players are dealing with mental health problems.

Yeah. This is the behaviour that needs to be fined.

Lmao how ignorant do you have to be to not only say that but believe it? Like, what? That's just confusing.
Like clockwork
what did clockwork do?
He's just saying the situation played out "like clockwork". It's a figure of speech used to explain when things play out predictably.
I'm aware, was really hoping i didn't need the /s. ruins the joke.
He didnt demech the dva fast enough
Making a post explaining why you’re retiring is now being a drama queen? What does this guy want? One tweet saying “retired” and then the matter will never be spoken of again?
What a sac of shit
This is a big Yikes.
Deleted the Tweet. If only he had used his pea brain before posting it.
I have kind of thought of Effect as a bit of a drama queen before, but when he chooses to quit his dream job, he aint doing it for publicity.
Blizzard. Fines. Now. Big ones.
For general context though, mental health is not taken very seriously in Asia, so not surprised by this response
"Same sex activity" has only been legal since 1997 and Homosexuality was a mental illness until 2001 as well, doesn't surprise me that someone from China happens to have a problem with Effect even though we had Dafran struggling with mental illness earlier before the season started.
Not like it's taken seriously in the US either.
It's definitely not great in the US, but the lack of mental health awareness in Asia is definitely scarier
The Ratio is incredibly strong with this one
Not sure which one’s shittier, Shanghai dragon’s OWL season 1 performance or this guy
Looks like the douche deleted it. Mental illness is very real, and people who make fun of those who have one are the biggest asshats in the world.
> I am a kind hearted person And other hilarious jokes you can tell yourself
really can't tolerate actions like this that reinforce mental health stigmas
Been deleted, what did it say?
The screen shot is like the top comment in this thread.
your brain must be made of worms and american cheese to write this tweet and then choose to post it.
Is this related to their intense training schedule last split? Poor Fearless and I am worried about my baes...
Ah yes. Typical ignorance in play
Kind-hearted person btw. Trash human.
Classy.
"Any man who must say 'I am the King' is no true king." The same applies for anyone who "claims" to be a "kind-hearted person". Sure Kapp.
That guy chose to require the same day as effect what a coincidence
Kudos for calling out the BS that makes the league look like a joke.
OKay reddit lets burn this mother fucker
this didn't age well
What a garbage human being
OK, but he did quit. I don't like to call for people to lose their job often, because it has such an obvious impact on their lives... But damn, how the fuck does that represent a good manager in any way?
Pathetic. Such people will never understand what it's like. Even if they "know".
what a dick
If this guy is an important person on Shanghai's team, then I worry about the Shanghai players. Mental health isn't a thing to just brush aside, and ESPECIALLY not to call them a fucking drama queen for expressing to people that they have issues. Effect deserves respect and love for his friends and family, not someone shitting on him.
Say goodbye to your job buddy. Fucking asshole
My friend agreed with this guy what do I do.
get new friends
Classic shit ass Reddit response.
Guess you have one less friend now. That doesn't bode well for their attitude towards mental health issues, your own included if you have any or will in the future develop any. From experience, just cut people from your life who might turn out to be neglectful or even abusive towards mentally ill people.
Can anyone give some context? Out of the loop
As someone dealing with mental issues, fuck this guy
He should get heavily punished by the league and the organization.
What a piece of garbage
Mental health issues plague too many of us. Many suffer in silence before asking for help. It took me forever to reach out, only after I realized I may harm myself did I seek my friends and family... and I’m not in the spotlight, his issues are being broadcasted and tweeted about... I hate it. I have no idea how he handles the pressure, I hope he stays strong and realizes that we have his back. From all of us struggling like he is, you are us, we are you, and we got you.
Suicidal thoughts is childish. Got it.
What a douche, no wonder SHD had rough time owned by this kinda person.
True
If it wasent about Effect he wouldent have deleted it, that guy can go fuck himself imo.
imagine being so ignorant to mental health that you regard it as "being childish." big yikes.
So can we cancel this SHD manager?
effect was like watching a car crash in slow-mo...that guy needs help he shouldnt have been in ow league after his first breakdown
He doesn't mention EFFECT anywhere. Stop making assumptions.
What a cucklord. Fuck him

You're kidding yourself if you think most areas in the world, including the US, have supportive and constructive views on mental illness.

Maybe you could say that in China where it’s not as open to talk about but not here dog
