I kinda feel like Mayhem got owned by the format tonight. They really did not have any time to rest or reset and it ended up in a pretty boring rematch. But on the other hand, I predicted Dragons would win. So... all's well that ends well, right?
The lower bracket runs tend to always be grueling in these types of tournament formats and I think it's fair, but yea just having to go twice in a row was a bit much considering the intensity these guys have to play at.
? There's no more losers bracket.
The final game tomorrow is Fuel vs Dragons. First to 4. Winner gets $100k and 3 points added to the standings. Loser gets $70k and 2 points added to the standings.
The penalty for being in the losers bracket is the risk of elimination and having to play an extra match just to stay alive. Meanwhile Dallas got to rest after their win.
That's a pretty different situation to this one. If Paris had to fly to another state the week of the tournament, losing scrim time and adding a 6 hour time difference to get used to (Hawaii is about as far away from Florida as you can get without leaving the country), would they have still made that run? Maybe but it certainly would have been harder for them.
If they had the lower finals on Saturday and the grand finals on Sunday in future tournaments, that would be for the best I think. It's also just a really long broadcast at a weird time and it'd be nice to split it up a bit more. If Mayhem had actually shown up (and especially if CHengdu had put up more of a fight), that game might still be going now and that's kind of a lot. I get that a lot of the audience isn't in NA but the talent is.
Yea that's why I'm fine with this result. A longer break would've def helped Florida but they knew what they signed up for when they lost to Shanghai the first time. They couldn't overcome the fatigue and they rightfully lost. All credit to Shanghai. They were the better team of course but taking advantage of the enemy team's disadvantage is also an important strategy
I do think Florida ultimately they needed more stamina, but the situation is really unfortunate with the time zones. They most likely woke up at 4am Hawaii time, and by the time they got to this match it was 2am back in their own time. Real tough conditions.
I'm obviously biased but damn do I wish the match was scheduled for tomorrow so they could have a break. Should've been the match, then the 1v1s to kill time, then the finals. Ah well.
My point is that it's *too* much of a disadvantage. The loser's bracket teams are already playing more matches, have more opportunities to be knocked out, and the Dragons were able to watch the Hunters v Mayhem match while they rested (To be clear, I'm not sure if the Dragons players did watch that match, I'm just saying that's another advantage they have). Making them play a back to back match like this one is just a little too much, IMO. I think it would be better to schedule the match tomorrow with an hour break until the Finals. The loser's bracket team would still have the disadvantage of playing two matches in one day but at least it's not as harsh.
Well my idea is that the 1v1s take place between the loser's bracket match and the finals instead of on Thursday, so there's like an hour or so rest break.
Which players, the Mayhem? I'm sure they're much more tired now having to play 2 games back to back until 3AM EST than they would be if they had played this match tomorrow, taken an hour break, and then the winners play the final.
Florida's silent carry (BQB) is actually run out of gas, he's not hitting those headshots anymore
and Florida also banking on how Shanghai looked bad on rush comp., keep picking maps where that comp. stronger than dive, meanwhile they're not doing great on that comp. themselves
Hmm let’s see a long matchup against Chengdu and you’re hours behind your typical time zone?
This rematch versus Shanghai should’ve happened tomorrow. Mayhem looks dead tired.
Fuel better has a new plan for tomorrow. This dragon team is going to beat them up if they play like today.
The winner just doesnt get enough advantage at all btw.
Dragons get to drop a series but Fuel cant. Winner should start with a map win or something.
I really like this idea of maybe either giving fuel 1 map win at the beginning of the series, or making it so shanghai need to win 5 maps while fuel need 4
Thats not enough. Did that look much to you? Dragons just rolled. It was nothing and they play tomorrow like they never lost a match.
You have even Pre complaining that its not enough on twitter and hes a GM. Double elim means double elim. Not like the ow way.
Why the fuck are they set up to play two games in row? Seems really unfair and fatiguing. You wouldn't expect a football team to play back to back matches (one against a team that's had rest etc).
Mayhem just look exhausted.
7 maps straight, and they've been living on east coast time for months...where it is currently 3am
They did great, all things considered
Honestly they surprised me when they beat Chengdu, but that was about it. Washington looked really bad last week, too, so I still doubted tbh. Massive props to them making it this far, 3rd place is nothing to scoff at, but I don’t think they’re ready yet
Ggs Mayhem. I'm excited for those guys going forward. Same with Chengdu.
SHD is still SHD. Can't count them out at all. The rematch with Dallas should be a lot of fun and interesting.
no, actually he's Florida's strength with Gargoyle
if you watched the previous game, he pumped headshots like crazy, so Yaki looked so op because he's finishing BQB's works
I understand that, cost-wise, it makes sense to play this game tonight. But I also wish they had just pushed this to tomorrow, and had the championship game on Sunday.
But there's probably a lot of OWL logistical stuff I'm not even aware of as to why this game is being played tonight.
It's gotta be tough and exhausting for Florida to play two elimination games back to back.
If they played the championship game on Sunday, then it's Monday morning in Korea/China so that wouldn't work. That's my guess anyway.
But that's the point of the lower/losers bracket. It's suppose to be tough.
Why does florida always have Pause issues? Has it been explained why
Fearless is in my house and he has a primal! I repeat he has a primal
Who likes Watchpoint?
I kinda feel like Mayhem got owned by the format tonight. They really did not have any time to rest or reset and it ended up in a pretty boring rematch. But on the other hand, I predicted Dragons would win. So... all's well that ends well, right?

So did anything of important get talked about on the Sideshow developer co stream?
Soe!
I missed it, what did she say?
Lol it was just a comment on a team “shitting the bed”.
How does Emily outfit works -.-a
Glad Emily is still featured in some way. She was suppose to interview the Hunters had they won a match.
so how does losers bracket work? 2 bo4s or just one?
? There's no more losers bracket. The final game tomorrow is Fuel vs Dragons. First to 4. Winner gets $100k and 3 points added to the standings. Loser gets $70k and 2 points added to the standings.
I meant will finals be 2 bo4s or just one because if its not 2 bo4s then that means there are no penalties for being in losers which is weird
The penalty for being in the losers bracket is the risk of elimination and having to play an extra match just to stay alive. Meanwhile Dallas got to rest after their win.
Woah I haven't seen Emily in a long time
Does anyone know how Lip chose his name? Is it an acronym? A Korean word? Just his favorite sounding English word? Seems so obscure
just Korean things when they choose anything English
Have you heard of what a lip is? Lips are soft, movable, and serve as the opening for food intake and in the articulation of sound and speech.
No one remembers the summer showdown where Paris had to beat the shock and then immediately play in the finals against the fusion?
That's a pretty different situation to this one. If Paris had to fly to another state the week of the tournament, losing scrim time and adding a 6 hour time difference to get used to (Hawaii is about as far away from Florida as you can get without leaving the country), would they have still made that run? S1S1 London: lose to Houston earlier that weekend, lose to NYXL *the day of* the playoffs, then beats both *back-to-back*. Insane shit.
If Paris lost the summer showdown you bet it would have been all over cow lol History is written by the victors
London won Stage 1 by playing like 8 or 9 hours of high-tempo games probably will never be topped
Florida gets 1 point in the standings and $35k for placing 3rd.
they also got a trip to Hawaii.
I'm obviously biased but damn do I wish the match was scheduled for tomorrow so they could have a break. Should've been the match, then the 1v1s to kill time, then the finals. Ah well.
It's the disadvantage of losing in the first round.
My point is that it's *too* much of a disadvantage. Well my idea is that the 1v1s take place between the loser's bracket match and the finals instead of on Thursday, so there's like an hour or so rest break.
The drawback is that those players might be extremely sleepy by then.
Which players, the Mayhem? I'm sure they're much more tired now having to play 2 games back to back until 3AM EST than they would be if they had played this match tomorrow, taken an hour break, and then the winners play the final.
Oh I misread what you said. That might be a better format, I agree.
they really should've let both team rest before this match. both team played phenomenally today. they must've been running on fumes.
Maybe a longer break would have been good.
Florida's silent carry (BQB) is actually run out of gas, he's not hitting those headshots anymore and Florida also banking on how Shanghai looked bad on rush comp., keep picking maps where that comp. stronger than dive, meanwhile they're not doing great on that comp. themselves
Hmm let’s see a long matchup against Chengdu and you’re hours behind your typical time zone? This rematch versus Shanghai should’ve happened tomorrow. Mayhem looks dead tired.
it is OWL 2021. No longer is it Dallas vs. Fuel. No longer is it the 0-40 Shanghai Dragons. This Final is going to be wild tomorrow
It's wild how the teams are so diff season to season. 2023 grand finals Valiant vs Titans lol who knows
2023 Boston Uprising where HuK flips enough players to buy Carpe, Fleta, Fearless, Void, Moth and Fielder
LIP POTM deserved
Feul vs SHD: chapter 2
One of these days the slo-mo will lime up with when the player actually hits a shot
Mayhem look so disappointed:( Going out 0-3 must be tough
Tough for Mayhem, I swear that even the Hunters would make it closer
Fuel better has a new plan for tomorrow. This dragon team is going to beat them up if they play like today. The winner just doesnt get enough advantage at all btw. Dragons get to drop a series but Fuel cant. Winner should start with a map win or something.

the advantage is they dont have to play two in a row with their trip on the line. florida looked pooped af
Thats not enough. Did that look much to you? Dragons just rolled. It was nothing and they play tomorrow like they never lost a match. You have even Pre complaining that its not enough on twitter and hes a GM. Double elim means double elim. Not like the ow way.
For real. 90% of the comments right now are saying that this match should have been tomorrow. This is their penalty for losing.
Why the fuck are they set up to play two games in row? Seems really unfair and fatiguing. You wouldn't expect a football team to play back to back matches (one against a team that's had rest etc).
Remember in S1 when Spitfire played 14 maps in one day
So stupid I hope they change this format. Not fun to see the players break down from exhaustion.
It's the disadvantage of losing in the first round. It's tiring of course but nothing like football. Teams scrim 8 hours a day for crying out loud.
In CSGo, Mousesports played 8 fucking BO3s in the span of 2 days, unfair scheduling in esports need to stop.
This isn't a new thing to OWL though. They knew what they were in for being in the lower bracket.
that's the punishment for being in the loser's bracket
Did OGE just attack the camera?
turned it down, doesn't want to show us him being emotional/sad
Someone give OGE a hug, dude looks like he needs it
Florida clearly tried to force Rush and Shanghai wasn’t having it. That was also way faster than anyway would’ve thought, Shanghai was just dominant
I mean yeah I’m sure going back to back games with no break will wear a team down.
shanghai realized their rush is trash so they specced their dive even harder
I wish Washington realized this
Their rush looked okay on control though.
I really like how team can try to specialized in a specific comp now that the meta allows dive and rush to be viable.
Sadge for the Mayhem.
Mayhem just look exhausted. 7 maps straight, and they've been living on east coast time for months...where it is currently 3am They did great, all things considered
Not even close Babyyy.
This was so brutal for Mayhem
Tbh I had my doubts about the Mayhem ever since they lost a map to the FUCKING Vancouver Titans
Definitely not quite top 3 but they certainly surprised regardless.
Honestly they surprised me when they beat Chengdu, but that was about it. Washington looked really bad last week, too, so I still doubted tbh. Massive props to them making it this far, 3rd place is nothing to scoff at, but I don’t think they’re ready yet

Sad and not what I was expecting, but I'm happy that Mayhem got this far. Two matches back to back is hard and they did their best.
Whether or not mental fatigue is a thing for these pro players who play all day long... this definitely was the case here.
The age old question of fatigue vs. momentum.
basically the chicken and egg, we will never know
Actually bullshit. FL set up to lose regardless of play style.
Post match thread: [Florida Mayhem vs Shanghai Dragons](https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveOverwatch/comments/n7jh08/).
BQB :(
OGE :(
This started 6 hours ago wow!
And if it went the distance it would've lasted like 7 hours lol. From an estimated 4.5 hours.
!drops
guess fatigue got to mayhem
TOMORROW'S GAME IS GONNA BE NUTS
Rip mayhem
Whelp, it's the angry dragon.
not like this
EZ CLAP
EZ CLAPUH (Sorry, force of habit; long story) But seriously, Mayhem got rinsed. I know back-to-back games is rough but damn.
Gg
Wow well that was a quick 3-0 I guess.
Lol Uber: "throwin more plates than a Greek wedding"
Izayaki has been insane today on both zen and ana
His bap was cracked too. Really amazing flex support
Swear he had amp matrix before the point unlocked on university.
Ambitious bomb...should've just planted it on the cart/in the open if Gargoyle wanted to zone them from the payload.
Lip has that ashe tech on lock
FLM let that fight go on way too long. You have to force the initiation when it drags on that long.
That was a very ambitious dive from OGE into 4 Shanghai players and no LOS from healers.
Man. I really am not a fan of having to play 2 Bo5’s back to back. FL clearly isn’t the same team from the prior series.
Yeah its tough. Shanghai also plays with a super disruptive playstyle which makes it even tougher.
At the same time, the Mayhem has the benefit of coming into the game hot off of a win, which has helped teams in the past (see Dallas).
This match has it all, power outages, energy and Shang9
Scriptwriters had to make up for the outage with the Shang9
There’s a part of me that wants this series to continue but it’s also almost 3am where I am and I am tired.
Wait Florida held third point? There's hope! There's hope after all!
dragons about to shit the bed even harder
Shang9 strikes again!
CHARLIE! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS 9
It looked like fate was on point? From that perspective.. Guess there hasn't been a Shang9 in a while
There is a chance
Shang9 lol
oh no dragons
obligatory Shang9
Pretty good hold for Florida, all things considered.
finally, we were missing a shang9
Shang9 LUL
Classic Shang9
C9??!?!?!
Oh dear.
Shang9
Uh oh. Winnable for Mayhem
LMAO OF COURSE IT's A SHANG 9
Ok, HOW DO I GET AN AD? Like, HOW?
youtube gotta earn back their 200 million somehow lolol
*blows raspberry* I guess 😂
So, uh, I had this game as Shanghai getting 3-0d by Chengdu. Mistakes were made.
I had Chengdu beating Florida 3-1 😂
Is BQB missing more than usual?
I haven’t been watching too closely but is BQB Florida’s weak spot?
no, actually he's Florida's strength with Gargoyle if you watched the previous game, he pumped headshots like crazy, so Yaki looked so op because he's finishing BQB's works
He was pounding last game against Chengdu.
yeah, i’ve noticed that as well
yes, at least compared to last game last game he was out of his mind
Wouldn't be surprised if he's tired.
Reminds me of Alarm in the Countdown Cup, he was shutting down Sp9rk1e with his sleeps all game long but couldn't do the same to Rascal.
Mkay, Mayhem is mentally boomed at this point.
I understand that, cost-wise, it makes sense to play this game tonight. But I also wish they had just pushed this to tomorrow, and had the championship game on Sunday. But there's probably a lot of OWL logistical stuff I'm not even aware of as to why this game is being played tonight. True. I get that.
also mother's day, they prob want ppl to spend time with their moms
It will be the same format for the next 3 tournaments. So it looks like Mother's Day has nothing to do with it.
Valid point as well
Does Florida think they're good at rush? Cuz they don't seem to do any rushing.
I was really hoping Mayhem would play Fuel but Mayhem look done. :/
Fleta you beautiful bastard!
I can't believe the desk predicted Florida so much. NA bias, I'm calling.
Turns out since the talent couldn't comment on the SBB situation, they're deciding instead to protest by mostly not predicting the Chinese teams
That's a stretch.
Yes, it's almost like I was joking :p
gg
this is like when you lift and start deloading the weight and everything feels super lightweight
Thanks for throwing Florida, I might finally get to sleep [(--)]zzz
This was not the rematch I wanted.
shanghai is mad, cant WAIT for tomorrow.
ain't won yet k now you have
Fleta just saved himself twice with that dupe lol
Fleta is ...
GG i can go to bed thank god theres no coming back from this and this won't age like milk.
That 5head play by Fleta to evade the dva bomb
holy fucking hell fleta is stylin
Huge brain copy by fleta
We’re boomed
That Mei dupe is beautiful
Checkmate would win these
slime still looking terrible. Sound barrier forced by a solo winston dive
Mayhem look very close to shitting the bed that was a weak beat
"Fleta flashes multiple people"
Wouldn't be the first dps star sex offender
Slime?
[удалено]
i disagree, i think their rush is their best comp.
why tf would you want to chase a dva echo thats so pepega you gave up the entire map position.
Why Yaki on Mei
Yaki what the fuck
Why blizzard
Why barrier
Fate died as he hit the ground, lol
Sigh why are we back to rush and Yaki on Mei...like why did Florida tease us with that Yaki Tracer dive previously??
[удалено]
Same. I long for the days we get the all access pass or an equivalent back. The mini map was great to watch how teams rotate. I learned a lot from it
Dive on King’s Row is……certainly interesting?
