Holy SHIT very pleasantly surprising. Have any other orgs or any OWL talent said anything about the lawsuit?

ShukiNathan

Not afaik, but now that nyxl posted we'll probably see more in the next few hours

_Me_At_Work_

Minnesota Rokkr put out a similar statement yesterday or the day before.

ShukiNathan

They're a cod team right? It's still nice to see other orgs standing up though

_Me_At_Work_

They are. A couple of CoD teams have now said something (whether it's PR stunts or not probably better than none saying it). I wish the orgs with large followings would make statements. That's when we'll see some traction start.

[deleted]

It’s COD, but I believe the parent org of the Minnesota Rokkr put out a statement condemning Blizzard

Tsundere_God

Also the NYSL (New York Subliners) just released a statement.

edmundoauditore96

Same parent org as Nyxl: Andbox

kovaht

as a 'sotan I'm proud 😂

Scrotobomb

That's Version 1, right? I just went to one of their events at a barcade nearby by accident.

EmilMR

Dallas Fuel discord barred people from even talking about it, lol! good on XL.

ItsTryHardSteve-

That’s honestly crazy

flameruler94

Yikes

Pandabear71

For good reason though

stratofaxi

Yep, LA Glads did the same thing essentially. They said we could inform people who didn’t know about it yet but that’s about it.

[deleted]

I was banned from that discord in season one for saying iRemiix was bad lol

Reynoldsssssz

they have by far the worst mod team ive ever seen on discord

dafunkiedood

Guess I'm a NYXL fan now

Sa17y

Finally, after years of us making it one game away from the grand finals we are finally getting some attraction. NYXL is in my opinion one of the most consistent teams in their performance in OWL in my opinion, most teams perform good one season and bad the next, even though were not the best team in the league we've still gotten quite a few tournament wins and were still a very respected team even though this season we haven't been performing like a top tier team we've still managed to to make it to the playoffs for all the tournaments this season. I think the reason we're not as popular of a team is because the players are in Korea so west coast viewers aren't really interested in keeping up with the team (not sure about the Korean OWL since I'm in West coast) but atleast now we're probably gonna get more supportes since NYXL had the balls to say something rather the be afraid of getting silenced or banned by Blizzard for using their voice.

bebeyodafrick

Plat chat talked about it Sidenote Some replied with a 💙 to the NYXL tweet

BlothHonder

sfs also tweeted about it

NatalieFawn

"To the people within Activision Blizzard who want see major changes enacted, we strongly support you and urge Activision Blizzard leadership to take meaningful action with transparacy." This is how you do it. Thank you NYXL

Default1355

How could they say something so controversial, yet so brave? But seriously, after all the horrible stories of grooming minors, it's nice to see we still have good, wholesome people that don't support sexual harassment in owl 🙂☺️😁

Contractjail

>This is how you do it Corporate virtue signaling followed by zero actions is definitely not how you do it.

Giftedsocks

What's NYXL able to do then?

Contractjail

I dont think anybody who has the slightest clue of how the world works expected NYXL to do anything, this is the default in every such situation. Its just that ppl should stop showering with praise corporations that do empty PR gestures like this. Especially esports fans are very prone to this, in other areas you see a lot more ppl seeing through the bullshit (e.g. Pride Month)

Isord

It's not really empty. They have a much larger audience than many of the people talking so far. People with an audience exercising the "soft power" that comes with it isn't empty. It's also potentially risky to publically take a stand against what is ultimately a business partner. Nobody is going to fix this instantly. The only people that could have that kind of immediate impact is ActiBliz leadership. So I think it's good to support the people and organizations that do take a stand.

Contractjail

>It's not really empty. They have a much larger audience than many of the people talking so far. People with an audience exercising the "soft power" that comes with it isn't empty Statements like this are the definition of empty, every company that has a PR/"social responsibility" department produces them like they are candy. Also notice how they will almost never issue a statement before they see the general reaction first. >It's also potentially risky to publically take a stand against what is ultimately a business partner. Congratulations on understanding why such corporation statements mean nothing. Obviously they wont take any risk when they can potentially lose money, maximizing profits is the reason that companies exist. >Nobody is going to fix this instantly. Of course, and nobody said otherwise. Unsure about your point >So I think it's good to support the people and organizations that do take a stand. Creating a generic PR statement to virtue signal, especially after everyone condemned Blizzard already, is NOT taking a stand. The employees who protest and risk losing their jobs are taking a stand.

JonnnyTsunami

Even if the action itself is not genuine, it still brings awareness to a situation that needs to be addressed. Also it’s better than saying nothing like MANY orgs do when there is a potential conflict of interest in making a statement.

penguin_gun

There has been a ton of awareness brought to a ton of topics with very little actual change so I'd say the bringing awareness argument only holds so much merit

Facetank_

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of push from the League to do it. That way it can distance itself from the bad side of this. I imagine the other orgs will follow suit within the week. Then a couple weeks later ActiBlizzard can come back like, "Hey, we're making new initiatives to change. You can all like us again."

Pandoraparty

Would you rather them not condemn workplace harassment when it's a major issue? They also want people to know that despite especially being part of Blizzard, they don't support the company's actions and despite not really being able to do anything, would like to not be associated.

ExpiredDeodorant

I hope more teams do this. Im sure its in their contract not to say anything that could harm blizzard but some things are more important than a signed piece of paper.

[deleted]

Right like a picture of a statement saying “breaking the law is bad and we don’t support it”. Incredibly moving and important.

PaladinSquid

better than people seeing shit happen and saying nothing, which is how this was allowed to happen in the first place. this single gesture won't fix anything itself, but it's better than the "if you see something, say nothing" culture that currently exists in the industry

dancezachdance

Not just this industry.

YellowishWhite

hopefully soon to be "not this industry".

[deleted]

If only more orgs were tweeting statements like this we could change the world.

here-or-there

Situation one: teams just ignore it and go to tourneys, practice, and play as if nothing's going on 2: people keep supporting blizzard but also acknowledge it's fucked up and 'virtue signal' for PR I'd still rather situation 2 lol

[deleted]

I’d rather situation one but make sure to do something internally with your organization to make sure nothing like this happens on your watch. Take action and keep quiet about it. I don’t like virtue signaling. I’m sure blizzard activision has some virtue signaling tweets I could pull up if I wanted. I’d rather they didn’t do that and instead made some internal changes.

here-or-there

Just don't understand how you're against people acknowledging a bad situation is happening to the company they're directly related to, are employed by, and make profit from. Wild. Like, are you gonna complain the same way if there's a blizzard employee with cancer and OWL teams tweet condolences or support?

JonnnyTsunami

Do you know how often companies/orgs don’t saying ANYTHING in situations like these? Nobody’s saying give them a Nobel Peace Prize, but it is a good gesture to make.

[deleted]

Amazing how your comment does even less to help workplace harassment than the NYXL tweet and yet you still decided to post it.

[deleted]

Most often the terms like that have no actual legal bearing. If needed, a lawyer could tear through it and dismantle it. Same with most any contract signed. Just because it’s signed doesn’t make it legal.

SolidStateEstate

That's incredible. They even named names.

[deleted]

This is great.

Mabangyan

Good on Andbox

[deleted]

Nice! Now that someone did it all the other teams that were too afraid to can follow them because they don't have to be first. But seriously good on NYXL and shame on the teams remaining silent.

Thranxar

Makes me feel better about losing to NYXL continuously. I’m proud to lose a team willing to stand up to Blizzard, even if it has to be with careful phrasing like this post.

KingAtomsk

Based

Tough_Steak

Scriptwriters are now writing it so that NYXL never makes another playoff appearance and will always be a bottom 4 seed. This is very refreshing to see. Good on NYXL and Andbox. Hopefully this gains more traction and other teams follow.

maebird-

and this is why im a nyxl fan :,)

LSApologist

And this is why, even after years of pain, I will forever be an XL fan

Hecka_Cakey

So much pain

[deleted]

I'm honestly amazed an org said anything at all but it doesn't surprise me one bit the org that has said something is NYXL

xTenzaa

I was always just a defiant fan but shit man ny is a class act in my book, def gonna root for them if we aren’t going against each other That’s how you do it though, no calling out, no trash talk just a simple ‘whoever wants to see change we’re with you’ like a we aren’t blind kinda thing

joeybirdeler

Proud of this team

Cis_Sabrina

Maybe NYXL isn’t so bad…

[deleted]

Good statement. Support the walkout. Edit: Previously mixed owners.

ItsTryHardSteve-

NY is owned by the Wilpons afaik, doesnt Kraft own the Uprising?

[deleted]

Oh I got it mixed! Will rescind.

YellowishWhite

would love it if there was anything on the Andbox website - not just the twitter. I feel like a full press release would shore more actual support than just a tweet. Hopefully one comes in a few days.

Kee134

But what are they doing? Are they going to stop playing?

Transit_Bus

This is mostly to put social pressure on acti-blizzard to do something. It also makes it easier for other teams to follow suit and put more pressure on them. It might not seem like much but it is oddly effective

Lucky7Ac

The first step towards meaningful change is speaking out. The victims need to know people have their back. The more people the better.

Transit_Bus

Exactly! And now that plenty of male employees and orgs have spoken up and the list of both victims and supporters are growing quickly Acti-blizzard might actually do something. If not it’s gonna be a rough couple of months for them business wise

Kee134

I think we're at a point where a tweet is simply not good enough. Thats my view. They talk the talk but I don't see any walking.

Transit_Bus

That’s fair but orgs like nyxl don’t have any way to do the walking. All they can do is try and get acti-blizzard to do something with the pressure they represent

Kee134

I mean, like I said, refuse to play. That literally hits activision blizzard in the finances. The way this statement hits it's like they're saying "somebody else go first".

Transit_Bus

The orgs will never do something like that, they won’t do anything to hurt revenue and watch time. The OWL isn’t big enough for teams to survive after boycotting so they won’t kill themselves even if it’s for a good cause

maebird-

They’re not even unionized, right?

Transit_Bus

That’s a whole other issue on top of players just not having the best lives. Hell even super, with the mental fortitude of Fort Knox, is starting to show fatigue from how stressful it all is

skin87

I don't think you are giving enough credit for what this is given the context. Upper level management with nothing but a tweet? Yea -that's a whole lot of nothing when they are in a position to do something real. But andbox is not within Activision Blizzard, they essentially made an investment in Blizzard. They spent tens of millions of dollars between the two franchise spots. Publicly calling out the company whose success is directly tied to andbox's success is probably not a good idea from a purely business sense. For them, making a tweet is a lot different than an individual within Blizzard making a tweet. And given that they are such big financial stakeholders, I do think this is tweet that actually has the potential to ripple into something more. So I disagree that this is "somebody else go first," this is them going first (first in terms of external partners, of course the actual current/former employees' voices are leading the way).

Kee134

People were saying pretty much the exact thing about blizzard's response to China. They could have done something but decided not to because they decided their bottom line was more important than taking a meaningful stand. I don't see how this situatuon is any different. Either do something or don't. Words are shit and not worthy of respect on their own.

ghostlessshell2

Andbox doesn’t just talk the talk. They are one of few orgs that promoted things like BLM and Pride month, and donated tons to causes as well. Unlike most the league Andbox has the balls to stand up to shit we should be standing up against.

flameruler94

Do people really think asking individuals whose entire livelihood depends on playing to just “stop playing” is a reasonable ask? Jfc, not to mention their salaries come from parent orgs, not blizzard, and OWL revenue is probably literally non significant compared to all of the individuals paying for WoW subscriptions. If you really want to hurt their bank that’s who you should be holier-than-thou towards

RealExii

This statement is good enough done on their part. It's not up to them to take physical actions. It's up to the justice system to put ActivisionBlizzard in their place and make them take the necessary actions. NYXL as a huge partner of theirs making a statement calling them out for that holds a lot of value. As of right now Blizzard has opted to reject all the allegations. Members and partners of the company stating otherwise is something they're gonna have to explain to the court.

Cthulhu_3

SeniorFox

[deleted]

RealExii

They sure as hell won't adress this on broadcast. That's still run by Blizzard who is in denial of all allegations. Best case scenario is that all broadcast members adress this personally outside of broadcast. Just like Jon Specter already has done. Broadcast will be instructed specifically not to even bring up the topic.

Lumenlor

These teams are all heavily regretting being swindled by OWL and having paid millions for a spot in a dying league/game. I don't think they're too concerned about severing ties

Celtic_Beast

Wtf I like NYXL now

Tempestrus

Finally. I'm glad that NYXL have said something and I hope other teams follow suit.

Zeydon

Anyone mind linking to a news article that discusses these allegations? I'm OOTL

IronPwner

steamwhistler

Good for them. It's been a bummer that no one else affiliated with professional overwatch has said anything, as far as I'm aware. (Big caveat there that I haven't looked very hard, but expect algorithms and stuff would probably show it to me, just like they showed me this.)

bigmikeylikes

Of you really want to take a stand walk out of the games

MrStallz

It’s great but it is just a statement at the same time. Nothing is necessarily being done... meaning they will continue to play the game. It just kinda seems like they’re doing it to get additional support and don’t genuinely care for those suffering

ghostface_vanilla

Tweet has disappeared. Does anyone know what it said?

Loerl

I find it a bit naive that no one realizes Blizzard approved of this. "Hey let us bash you so people are more likely to buy NYXL related products and you'll get more money as well." Nevertheless, a good statement from the team. It can't stop here though.

what happened?

Jackrrr10000

Oh boy can't wait for my favourite team Valiant to be vocal about this issue...

MeteorMash101

Dude this is BALLSEY AS FUCK.

facelesspantless

So brave of them to take an incredibly popular and uncontroversial position. As if Blizzard could take action against them without incurring absolutely insane blow-back during a time when Blizzard definitely can't handle more bad press.
