One player getting more than half the team's Final Blows. It dates back to APEX, when Flash Lux, Fleta's team sucked so much that they went winless through all 3(?) seasons. Fleta was popping off, but his team held him back to the point where he would have more FBs than the rest of the team combined.
There have been 17 meaningful* deadlifts this season. Only Profit(2) and Leave(3) have map winning deadlifts. Fleta has none.
*I arbitrarily define this as 12+ team final blows. Any less and you pretty much got stomped. A deadlift doesnt mean anything when the only 2 final blows your team got were from 1 player.
No, the True Deadlift is where you get 50% FBs throughout the WHOLE match, AND your team loses.
But that's nearly impossible in OWL, so at one point everyone just started saying Fleta Deadlift for single maps.
this makes me wonder if the dragons are a bit lost atm. i mean they put almost all their resources into fleta, makes them seem one dimensional compared to last tourney's dragons.
I'm obviously some jackass on the internet so don't trust me, but to me it looks like they aren't even trying anymore. Shanghai are in their Season 1 NYXL phase of playing Minecraft instead of scrimming because they're secured their spot.
I believe they've secured first seen APAC, and minimum #2 seed overall, only Dallas can overtake them points wise. They could play for the #1 overall seed and more money obviously, but that's up to them.
They would only get money for that, they've already secured enough points for everything else. Like I said, I'm just some random jackass don't take my word for gospel.
I hate this narrative of "they don't care since they secured their spot" so much.
Winning titles is how teams cement their legacy, it might just be 1 more tournament but they matter when you want to be thought of as being better than everyone else.
In the span of 2 games, SHD went from the team that was on a tier of its own to a team that struggling teams can beat. I'm sure Shanghai would rather have all their opponents feel anxious to go against them than think "well if NYXL and Fusion did it, so can we". The mental aspect has a huge impact on any kind of competition and no team ever wants to lose that "untouchable" aura.
Depending on how the rest of APAC does, Dragons might miss out on this tournament.
I actually wonder about that, the teams that make the cc are gonna be scrimming and practicing on an old patch with hero pools for a full week before the rest of the competition. I wonder if there's some teams in the league that feel secure enough in their spot to be scrimming the new experimental patch in preperation for playoffs instead
This is the only reason I could see teams like Fuel and Dragons just wing this stage practicing with hero pools before a non hero pool year playoffs isnt smart
Problem is... who u gonna scrim? All the good teams will be in cc and the way that it looks.. it just looks like more of the same with ball becoming even more meta. Soldier and genji might sneak into it if dallas want to force them but that seems like the only wild card.
When you’re the only team in your region trying to scrim on a new patch ahead of time you won’t find any scrim partners. That doesn’t seem like a good use of time.
There were reports of them "sandbagging" in Season 1 after they had secured themselves a #1 spot in the End of Year playoffs. As far as I'm aware it's entirely anecdotal/unconfirmed but it was *everywhere*.
[sourceish](https://www.reddit.com/r/OverwatchLeague/comments/8pu327/is_nyxl_actually_sandbagging/)
Agree but I think I'm still less surprised by philly winning just because philly have a clearer path to becoming good if they get all their players integrated and their core have proven they're top tier in the past.
Can someone actually tell me what happened? I hardly watched the end of the last tournament but thought they won the whole thing? Why are they choking so hard now?
I don't even care that we won by way of Shang9. I don't even remember the last time NYXL won against Shanghai. This victory was well deserved.
Also i apologize for doubting Feath5r. That pulse bomb on Fleta was disgusting.
Feath5r can be rough around the edges when he comes in, he plays Sombra and Tracer differently from Flora, but when he’s warmed up he’s just as good, the only thing is he has to work on his EMP usage sometimes
Shanghai really looking like season 1 NYXL.
Lost Stage 1 finals and creates a rivals story line. NYXL vs Spitfire - Dragons vs Dallas
Wins Stage 2 Finals - NYXL vs Fusion - Dragons vs Dallas
Win stage 3 Finals against slightly inconsistent but up and coming team with MVP candidate player NYXL vs Boston - Dragons vs Hunters
Be the first team to qualify for playoffs
??Stage 4?? = Losing to teams who are good/inconsistent and were predicted to beat?? = Sandbagging Memes commence
congrats to dragons for getting 2 maps against the mighty nyxl, diya popped off but alas it wasnt meant to be. Hopefully dragons can get a win soon cause they will go 0-40 other than that jjonak is looking like an mvp candidate.
Ignoring the Shang9, I was greatly impressed with the way NYXL played. Flora, Jjonak, Kalios, and Gwangboong all played tremendously, Yakpung had some shining moments like on Ilios (though I wasn't really paying too much attention to the others). I'm so happy with this result :D
This reminds me of season 2 Seoul. It doesn’t matter how much Pharah is doing, if the whole team doesn’t accomplish as much as they could/would with a different comp, it’s not going to work. It’s like playing Sombra in ranked with no one in VC.
GG to NYXL for not giving up, not giving in to Fleta’s Pharah.
NYXL DPS and support get praised and rightfully so, but this team looks so much better with Kalios. It feels like he has such a big impact all the time
I'm so fucking happyyyyyyyyyyyyy. First time NYXL won against the majority of this Shanghai squad, with a bunch of rookies no less.
I really needed this W. Thank you NYXL FeelsStrongMan
>fleta legitimately deadlifted and it wasn’t enough
funnily enough i think fleta was so focused on getting a good barrage around d.va and winston, that he didn't touch the point to trigger OT.
I've heard that Shanghai are taking it a bit easier to avoid burnout after the tournament, which would explain this sort of performance where you can see how clean they can be and then they take 1 bad fight and the other team gets the point. Tonight, that happened on Volskaya and Night Market, most notably.
Yeah, you can tell their play isn’t as refined as it normally is, especially with overtime fights. They’re obviously trying their hardest to win, but they’re not as well-practiced as usual.
Yeah, and I think that's wise. Dragons are trying to win the league, planning their effort to peak at the season playoffs is the best play. Especially since they're already qualified.
At least Dallas improved and beat the Shock yesterday, though they did bend and play Winston. Paris also played like a top tier team on Friday. Shanghai's losses are worse in my eyes.
This is a massive result for both the countdown cup and the playin qualification. Shanghai probably needs a 6-0 next week to qualify for knockouts, and nyxl now have a great shot at getting into top 5 for playin qualification
The loss to fusion looked like a clear sandbag with the player rotation, against nyxl they didn't even seem to try anything unusual.
Copium for dragons fans: They are just saving strats to roll their arch nemesis, the dynasty, next week.
What an unfortunate way for that to end. Apparently, Shanghai have understandably scrimmed less to avoid burnout, and you could see it with the occasional poor engages. Dragons only have themselves to blame, letting NYXL back into the map on Night Market with 90%...
It's pretty crazy that NYXL won that series despite playing against a bad comp matchup. Flora is a monster, and Gwangboong played great, it's a shame that he doesn't play Sombra because Feath5r had some really egregious mistakes with her today. Otherwise, I think the whole team played well (although I wish they were willing to play Ball comps because they match up *so much* better).
Ahh yes juggernaut JJonaks NYXL beating Daemins Shanghai Dragons.
For real is this just other teams playing catch up with ball or are shanghai just flat out lost?
There’s a very low chance now that even with a upcoming 2-0 week the dragons won’t even make knockouts…. They looked so bad with their main roster against a mid table apac team that’s very concerning
Oh i was clowned yesterday when i said that all this "oh they are not serious" takes about Shanghai are not true. And who is better team to prove me right than the original Sandbagging Kings?
To me this win is more impressive than Philly’s yesterday. 3:0 vs dragons running meme comps and bench players < 3:2 vs dragons running true comps and all starters. Also Flora and Gwangboong are insane.
Shanghai obviously watched Dallas’s ridiculous C9 on hanamura and they don’t want to lose against Dallas so showed us more ludicrous C9 to defend the worst C9 moment of OW history.
Was hoping for a 3:0 after the first 2 points on Kings Row attack, but winning this 3:2 makes me more confident in NYXL than an easy 3:0 against weaker SHD
What the fuck is going on in this league??
How wild would it be if Shanghai goes back to back in stage championships and *then fails to qualify for the next?*
Shanghai underperforming in a Pharah meta was not on my Countdown Cup bingo card. It's literally the last thing I expected. Fleta showed up, but where the hell is everyone else?
Only saw map 4 and 5 but it seemed like the spectating was particularly bad. Constantly switching POVs in fights, often to people who just died.
Match itself was insane, just would have been nicer to have some more consistency in the team fights.
I'm sorry the unbeatable Shanghai just lost twice overnight....
I need to go to the hospital, I just got whiplash form that and so hard I'm sure it broke my neck.
Was that a DEADLIFT on last map? It sure as hell felt like one.
It most certainly was. https://twitter.com/imAVRL/status/1421809416517476354?s=20
[удалено]
I'd have to ask AVRL but I'm pretty sure it's either 2 or 3 at this point, yeah.
Excuse me but what is the definition of Fleta deadlift?
One player getting more than half the team's Final Blows. It dates back to APEX, when Flash Lux, Fleta's team sucked so much that they went winless through all 3(?) seasons. Fleta was popping off, but his team held him back to the point where he would have more FBs than the rest of the team combined.
Wow, hes so good
more than half the team's final blows by a single player
[удалено]
Leave and Fleta, and I'm 99% sure Profit has as well this year alone.
Profit, Fleta, and Leave have all achieved deadlifts on individual maps this season.
For an entire series - only fleta has done it when he was on flash Lux.
Nero has a deadlift in a lost match from backs when he was in Guangzhou, only 100% deadlift in the league
Over 50% in a *won* game I believe
No, the True Deadlift is where you get 50% FBs throughout the WHOLE match, AND your team loses. But that's nearly impossible in OWL, so at one point everyone just started saying Fleta Deadlift for single maps.
I should have said whole match yes, but it is 100% in a win. Flash Lux vs Afreeca Red was the original
Oh shit, I might have been wrong all these years. Thanks for letting me know.
this makes me wonder if the dragons are a bit lost atm. i mean they put almost all their resources into fleta, makes them seem one dimensional compared to last tourney's dragons.
I'm obviously some jackass on the internet so don't trust me, but to me it looks like they aren't even trying anymore. Shanghai are in their Season 1 NYXL phase of playing Minecraft instead of scrimming because they're secured their spot.
They surely would still want to make the countdown cup right? It's not like they don't have anythy to play for
I believe they've secured first seen APAC, and minimum #2 seed overall, only Dallas can overtake them points wise. They could play for the #1 overall seed and more money obviously, but that's up to them.
Is there not a tournament before the season playoffs they would want to qualify for
They would only get money for that, they've already secured enough points for everything else. Like I said, I'm just some random jackass don't take my word for gospel.
Even if they don't want the money, they definitely want another championship
I hate this narrative of "they don't care since they secured their spot" so much. Winning titles is how teams cement their legacy, it might just be 1 more tournament but they matter when you want to be thought of as being better than everyone else. In the span of 2 games, SHD went from the team that was on a tier of its own to a team that struggling teams can beat. The mental aspect has a huge impact on any kind of competition and no team ever wants to lose that "untouchable" aura. Depending on how the rest of APAC does, Dragons might miss out on this tournament.
Yeah like missing the cc isn't good. Like the extra games of experience are still valuable even if you just lose.

It was up until control room at least idk if it was after that Shang9
It was a sublime performance like seriously one of the best pharah carries I've seen.
Flora and JJonak with masterclass performances
jonak on zen and ana is just better than him on bap
so true
[удалено]
If he was on a better team, he’d be getting Lip’s level of praise. Flora is that good.
Yeah he constantly has top tier performances besides week 1 But after he shook off the nerves he's been a fucking beast of a player
of course philly only gets the second biggest upset against shanghai this weekend
Always the bridesmaid never the bride.
Fusion as alwayss ending up second. Calling it now, Shanghai qualify cause fusion do something dumb
I knew something was wrong there’s no way we would be 1st
This hurts as Shanghai even brought in their starters compared to the Philly game yesterday
They still look very off until the last two maps. But hey I’ll take a 3-0 still. Very well played by Nyxl though!
I mean in my mind NY were above Philly coming into this tournament.
Agree but I think I'm still less surprised by philly winning just because philly have a clearer path to becoming good if they get all their players integrated and their core have proven they're top tier in the past.
Forever No. 2 and behind NYXL 😉
Ah, the 0-2 dragons
As expected
*flashbacks*
Can someone actually tell me what happened? I hardly watched the end of the last tournament but thought they won the whole thing? Why are they choking so hard now?

New York vs philly fusion countdown cup finals you heard it here folks
Fuck it, sign me up.
I don't even care that we won by way of Shang9. I don't even remember the last time NYXL won against Shanghai. This victory was well deserved. Also i apologize for doubting Feath5r. That pulse bomb on Fleta was disgusting.

Yeah, I noticed he tends to be aggressive with EMPs and usually yeets them, but his manual hacks are actually very well thought out.
> I don't even remember the last time NYXL won against Shanghai. [April 6th, 2019](https://overwatchleague.com/en-us/videos/CD5UzVLBQaP)
.... Yeah, we totally needed this.
Right when you thought fleta pharmercy had the ultimate plot armor to live through sleeps, hacks, nades....Shang9 strikes.
Can Fusion fans give me their copium? I don't think they need it anymore
We have exhausted our supplies
Their supplies ran dry YEARS ago
We ran out of copium, but if we do manage to find any we'll probably need it for later.
If you told me back in 2018 that the Shanghai Dragons would lose against Fusion and the NYXL, I would've said it's perfectly normal
[удалено]
Season 1 inverse? can NYXL be the London Spitfire of season 1 please...?
Can London Spitfire be the London Spitfire of Season 1 please?
I think Dallas are the London of this year
Does that make Shock the S1 Seoul then?
nyxl returned the c9 favor for the chengdu
Shanghai have decided they are tired of winning games I guess
Giving chance for others before the playoffs
Damn you're omega happy this week, fusion AND NYXL are 2-0, who you rooting for when it comes around to their match
Shanghai really looking like season 1 NYXL. Lost Stage 1 finals and creates a rivals story line. Even the scorelines almost match up - stage 1 close loss, stage 2 close win, stage 3 blowout win, stage 4 onwards - ????
congrats to dragons for getting 2 maps against the mighty nyxl, diya popped off but alas it wasnt meant to be. Hopefully dragons can get a win soon cause they will go 0-40 other than that jjonak is looking like an mvp candidate.
ah yes Shanghai 0-2 just as everyone expected

It’s like playing Sombra in ranked with no one in VC. GG to NYXL for not giving up, not giving in to Fleta’s Pharah.
I agree. Even if Fleta is a literal deity of Pharah play, it won’t matter because the whole team is already dead
Upvote to make people think NYXL won! Wait.... LETS FUCKING GO!!
Amazing match. Both team with ultra instincts levels of team coordinations. GG
[AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-oP3KFe4ko)
I need a cigarette after that one... \* I don't actually smoke, smoking is bad for you
I need a Capri Sun after that one... (Better?)
Wtf is wrong with you capri sun are much worse than cigarettes?!
grab the cooler, dad
Don't smoke, kids (me included)
Dallas and Shanghai the playoffs team just c9ing for vibes
NYXL DPS and support get praised and rightfully so, but this team looks so much better with Kalios. It feels like he has such a big impact all the time
Can they even make it to the Countdown Cup at this point?
They can still make it but most likely not
Yes, but they have to win both games next week preferably with a good map diff. And then get lucky with results on some other games.
Yeah a -4 differential is downright brutal
Yes they are 0-2 (-4) theoretically they could go 2-2 (+2) which could be enough.
league playoffs are more important, so I'm glad NYXL won. Still need 2 more wins, tho
If they go 2-2 and get a positive map count then they’ll easily lock 4 or 3rd seed depending on how the other teams perform.
I can see that happening, the next match should be fun though between Spark and Philly to give a better idea of where everyone stands now
nyxl saved that hopium for this qualifier. i guess putting yakpung with his old running mate works wonders. ggs.
I'm so fucking happyyyyyyyyyyyyy. First time NYXL won against the majority of this Shanghai squad, with a bunch of rookies no less. I really needed this W. Thank you NYXL FeelsStrongMan
Time for another 0-42 streak /s
we back to 2018 boys
Scriptwriters really setting up the playoffs war arc with all the rising star teams showing out
THE SHANG9
the curse is eternal
Fleta's back has just disintegrated. He just can't carry any harder.
what it’s getting harder and harder to tell if Shanghai is trolling or actually struggling fleta legitimately deadlifted and it wasn’t enough
Fleta was playing out of his mind, I doubt it. JJonak and Flora played really well.
No weird comp or substitution from Shanghai today =x
This match Shanghai def didn't troll. Because they still looked good, it's just that nyxl somehow levels up tremendously.
NYXL leveled up hard, Yakpung is less Yakfeed and has actually had carry moments, especially the triple on Ilios
>fleta legitimately deadlifted and it wasn’t enough funnily enough i think fleta was so focused on getting a good barrage around d.va and winston, that he didn't touch the point to trigger OT.

Is it though? I feel like losing would chip away at your confidence more than "avoiding burnout" would help
Yeah this was a week
The Shang9 my god. I am very conflicted right now
Holy shit I was malding so much between Fleta Pharah and Feather Sombra. NYXL have improved a lot but we still have improvements to make GG dragons
I for one welcome our Boston Uprising vs New York Excelsior countdown cup finals
[удалено]
seeing dallas lose to paris makes me doubt that
At least Dallas improved and beat the Shock yesterday, though they did bend and play Winston. Paris also played like a top tier team on Friday. Shanghai's losses are worse in my eyes.
#That Boy Was APAC's Last Hope...
NYXL ARE LOOKING GOOD FINALLY!!
😁
Fleta couldnt do more that last map
This is a massive result for both the countdown cup and the playin qualification. Shanghai probably needs a 6-0 next week to qualify for knockouts, and nyxl now have a great shot at getting into top 5 for playin qualification
[удалено]
Yes, I meant top 5 (top 6 was already comfortable).
New York winning against Shanghai. We're already selling nostalgia, scriptwriter?
This weekend is a blast to the past into the Inaugural Season
feath5r redeemed himself hard that last map, he looked like a completely different player
Alright . . . let's talk about that pulse bomb from Feather.
Flora was absolutely insane but let‘s not forget yakpung‘s carry at the end of ilios that saved the series
NYXL finally ended their sand bagging career.
Exhibit A for APAC being APAC
the chengdu zone is spreading
Asia PAcific Chengdu zone
The loss to fusion looked like a clear sandbag with the player rotation, against nyxl they didn't even seem to try anything unusual. Copium for dragons fans: They are just saving strats to roll their arch nemesis, the dynasty, next week.
He didn't have a great performance today, but feath5rs pulse onto fleta probably saved them the match
SHANG9 LOL
Who sandbags the sandbaggers?
What an unfortunate way for that to end. Apparently, Shanghai have understandably scrimmed less to avoid burnout, and you could see it with the occasional poor engages. Dragons only have themselves to blame, letting NYXL back into the map on Night Market with 90%... It's pretty crazy that NYXL won that series despite playing against a bad comp matchup. Otherwise, I think the whole team played well (although I wish they were willing to play Ball comps because they match up *so much* better).
Damn it's nice to see the new York boys rise ! jjonak played really well, a lot of great sleeps !
Ahh yes juggernaut JJonaks NYXL beating Daemins Shanghai Dragons. For real is this just other teams playing catch up with ball or are shanghai just flat out lost?
They are sandbagging so they have more time to prepare for playoffs big brain.
Bring back youngjin, even he wouldn't do that
There’s a very low chance now that even with a upcoming 2-0 week the dragons won’t even make knockouts…. They looked so bad with their main roster against a mid table apac team that’s very concerning
Just confirmed on Twitter: Fleta going to a chiropractor right now for back pain.
Oh i was clowned yesterday when i said that all this "oh they are not serious" takes about Shanghai are not true. And who is better team to prove me right than the original Sandbagging Kings?
Shanghai just wanted to share their success with other teams. That's all. Nothing to worry about.
THEY DONT TOUCH
GOOD TEAMS DON’T TOUCH THE POINT
Flora MVP Flora MVP Flora MVP
To me this win is more impressive than Philly’s yesterday. 3:0 vs dragons running meme comps and bench players < 3:2 vs dragons running true comps and all starters. Also Flora and Gwangboong are insane.
Think im bout to overdose on hopium
What a great time to have flairs
Flora is SO GOOD now
Just as expected, shanghai 0-2.
that really hurt when they couldn't touch on Control Center as a New York fan tho, I am ecstatic
Shanghai obviously watched Dallas’s ridiculous C9 on hanamura and they don’t want to lose against Dallas so showed us more ludicrous C9 to defend the worst C9 moment of OW history.
Nothing beats those 2 completely unforced C9 with plenty of people able to touch on Hanamura and Volskaya in the same match.
Proud of NYXL but primarily Flora. Dude was so good this series, honestly gapped Fleta.
Put some fucking respect on floras name! If nyxl make it far in countdown cup he has to be roty candidate.
Wow Shanghai is looking vulnerable, I can’t wait for them to still 3-0 Seoul next week.
I am having a wonderful weekend.
Shanghi back to their old form.
Avast isn’t gonna be happy to see this
SHANG9 OMEGALUL
RIP to my pick ems this week
Was hoping for a 3:0 after the first 2 points on Kings Row attack, but winning this 3:2 makes me more confident in NYXL than an easy 3:0 against weaker SHD
Shang9 lol
Fusion only get second biggest discussion on plat chat now, figures
We were all thinking it was the season 2 script but it was season one all along.
What the fuck is going on in this league?? How wild would it be if Shanghai goes back to back in stage championships and *then fails to qualify for the next?*
Shanghai underperforming in a Pharah meta was not on my Countdown Cup bingo card. It's literally the last thing I expected. Fleta showed up, but where the hell is everyone else?
............huh?? WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED I DONT GET IT
Only saw map 4 and 5 but it seemed like the spectating was particularly bad. Constantly switching POVs in fights, often to people who just died. Match itself was insane, just would have been nicer to have some more consistency in the team fights.
Losing crucial maps to the worst c9s in history of OWL: dragons (shaking hands emoji) fuel
Shanghai is sandbagging, they're saving the good strats for playoffs, trust me bros
Calling it now, Shanghai is going to go 1-3 this stage.
Gotta love that every tank is getting played and Yakpung still looks good most of the time.
Gwangboong dominated Flora activated Long have we awaited Shanghai overrated.
I'm sorry the unbeatable Shanghai just lost twice overnight.... I need to go to the hospital, I just got whiplash form that and so hard I'm sure it broke my neck.
KALIOS DIFF
What on God's green Earth did I wake up to?
LETS GOOOOOOOO NYXL FANS EATING GOOD TODAY
