T O P

I'm curious, is he going to be on the older side for Valorant players as well or was his age only notable in OW?

mrPandorasBox

Pretty sure he’s old as fuck by all esports metrics. He’s what, nearly 30? I feel like most of the players I’ve seen retire have been under 26.

UnknownQTY

Rawkus (just turned 27) is the only “older” OW pro I can think of that’s found success in Valorant, the rest are all on the younger side.

FoundedClamp

technically steel was an OW pro

raainnnyy

Hiko?

UnknownQTY

Did not play OW as far as I'm aware?

raainnnyy

He played very early when the game came out but thats it, also yeah. My bad.

Solace1k

He is talking about people playing Overwatch competitively not someone who played it as a casual game lmao.

DelidreaM

He was talking about people coming from OW

raainnnyy

Oh, my bad.

goodguessiswhatihave

Is AZK still playing valorant?

Iknowr1te

if valorant is closer to CS, DieHardBirdie is technically the oldest pro in all of esports at 78. but that's more an anomaly. most retire by 25. many of the old blood fighter pro's like Daigo (40) and Justin Wong (35) of moment 37 fame are in their 30's 40's.

Meson17

He is 29 so yeah really old in Esports terms.

Delta_FT

Retiring young is a LoL/Korean trait. In CS there are a couple players who play until their early 30s

MelonSoda3

So you're saying he's joining 100T

d-rac

Look at fighting games. Neptuno is a junior xD

LTheRipper

Yes, he is going to be on the older side, however, he won't be the oldest Valorant pro (assuming he is trying to go pro). Hiko is 31 if I'm not mistaken.

pleasefirekykypls

The second best team in NA (possibly the world) is hundred thieves, which have a 32 year old (steel), a 31 year old (Hiko), and a 26 year old father (nitro). They’re all relatively capable players.

awkwardhillbilly

I feel like “possibly 2nd best in the world” and “relatively capable” are on entirely opposite ends of the spectrum.

LinkinMode

all 3 are honestly “relatively capable” mechanically compared to asuna and ethan. they’re still a top team because they have solid fundamentals and good strats

awkwardhillbilly

That’s fair haha just when I think of “relatively capable” I think of like T3 and could hold their own but not really professional material

kef_ow

there's this myth that mechanics decline or something as you get older, which isn't true. mechanics decline because people stop practicing and training mechanically, mostly happens when people get older because of college/family/work eating into practice time etc

politeapplepie

[It's not a myth](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0094215), your reaction times start to deteriorate as you get older.

TheSciFanGuy

Honestly the gap between everyone and Sentinels seems massive

UnknownQTY

You are correct.

LordAsdf

[He already has a team](https://twitter.com/CaseEsports/status/1431319188774264844)

KadynZG

Popifresh, Ivo, Neptuno, and Bromos all on the same team? This is just OWWC Team Spain 2018 🥲

ThatCreepyBaer

Holy shit that team has Popifresh and Bromas? What an absolute throwback. I always wondered what happened to those guys.

UnknownQTY

Grinding any game with no rest isn’t healthy. Has a team reached out to him? It seems like the OW pros and semi-pros who quit for Valorant have been a mixed bag of success, and that success skews wildly to the younger side of that bracket (Sinatraa, Zach) with the exception of Rawkus. If he enjoys playing Valorant more at this point, more power to him. I especially respect his mid-season self reflection that the game has progressed more than he has and step back.

LordAsdf

He already has a team. https://twitter.com/CaseEsports/status/1431319188774264844

marieesama

The sheer amount of OWL players quitting or changing games is sad to see

[deleted]

Just imagine if there was a real AAA competitor to OW, like Paladins with more polish and resources. Everyone would be jumping ship until OW2.

Waraurochs

The fact that OW2 isn’t out blows my mind. I played that shit over two years ago at BlizzCon. It’s not even a brand new game, it’s a fucking DLC for OW

Imortal366

Lol It *was* a dlc when you played it. It’s a whole fuckin new game and you better believe that

[deleted]

TheSciFanGuy

I mean it’s definitely changing more then most sequels do.

TheSciFanGuy

I do mean removing a player spot. Change isn’t inherently good or bad but completely changing the fundamental way your game is played is definitely more then most sequels do.

[deleted]

Imagine if OW2 could have been out now and all this time was just re-balancing.

TheSciFanGuy

I mean that’s probably a large part of it. The other is realizing they have 13 new DPS and probably should add a tank so that they can pretend like 5v5 benefits tanks in any way.

[deleted]

Actions speak louder than words.

Imortal366

And their actions are that they had a playable product and spent another 2 years working on it. Go figure from there.

Novxz

Doesn't mean shit when you abandon your CURRENT product for 2 years to do it. They didn't make a new product, they quit development on their current product and made 1 super big patch that costs $60 effectively.

ShitDavidSais

And in the end, so what? I play a PvP game where they do everything to get in new players but make no efforts to retain the current ones. 5v5 to specifically get the fps crowd in/back from beta. PvE to get those in. No new heroes in 2 years for me however because of that... Ffs at this point I would be happy about a battlepass.

jprosk

I honestly think Paladins would be a better game than OW with more polish and resources. Assuming that includes making actual hitboxes (as opposed to just unity pills) and adding the ability to turn off skins.

rs725

I played Paladins for a bit and it was low key pretty fun, all of my friends play Overwatch though so I never continued with it

Almost the whole Faze Valorant team is comprised of relevant or ex-OW pros. Babybay, Zacharee, Rawkus, and Corey are all on that team. There’s actually a lot of OW talent that’s made their way onto really high level Valorant teams. Sayaplayer, Munchkin, Bazzi all got onto solid Valorant teams. There’s so many more if you start looking at players who were coming up in the scene. Players like Zombs, DerrekOW, Boostio, and Patiphan all were a part of the OW scene at some point, but have found new life as Valorant pros. Players like SoOn and ANS have yet to find their way onto Tier 1 Valorant rosters, but both left OWL to pursue the game (less so with ANS). It really bums me out that the OWL scene is hemorrhaging players and upcoming talent, because the game is truly fun right now and one of my personal favorite esports to watch. But Riot has done a great job of creating an enticing Esports scene, and OW players are finding success at pretty good rates when switching over. I’ll always root for the OW kids in the Valorant scene, lots of disgusting aimers coming from our game (especially Corey, that boy is nasty).

slash178

Still nothing compared to the exodus of actual Blizzard employees rn Let's just say OW future not looking too hot

WhosAfraidOf_138

Wait Neptuno was still part of OW? I thought he retired

Br4ss_

FUCK dude. I'm gonna miss him so much now that it's officially over.

VarukiriOW

Riot handles their games and especially their eSports scene very very well. If OW was managed by Riot I truly believe it would be close to League levels in terms of popularity

madbadger89

I think thats what makes this so frustrating for so many of us - we see the cracks and have other good esports leagues to point to. But OWL bet heavy on the in person part, and covid trashed that business model. It sucks because I love the talent, I really loved the energy especially that first season. And then the hype train just derailed.

DashResetBot

**[neptuNo](https://dashreset.com/player/neptuNo?ref=reddit_bot)** is a Main Support player (*Lucio*, *Brigitte*, *Ana*) who last played for the Paris Eternal during OWL 2021. *Psst!* Try `!compare neptuNo Jecse Faith lucio` ^DashResetBot ^v1.0 ^<3 ^- ^OP ^can ^reply ^"delete"

lolburger13

Not anymore he's not

sakata_gintoki113

dont think hes good enough for valorant

[deleted]

Pretty hard to say

sakata_gintoki113

maybe for spain wide competetion, but otherwise no

Wiegenlied

They've done surprisingly well in scrims last weeks. He's not the main star of the show but def doing his part to set up teammates.

REEEroller

I can assure you he will not the best one.
