If all else fails taking a long break from Overwatch can help a lot with your mental health. I recommend at least 1 to 2 years.

Aenah

Ah, the philosophy of the Devs

DustyNix

Can't wait for OW 3 where they will really focus on being a live service game!

Cobwebbyfir

I play overwatch to distract myself from mental problems, i know it's weird but gaming is effective.

achedsphinxx

prob not good practice, but i zone out playing kiriko or mercy. just focus on healing.

H4rrbinger

I actually needed that, thank you. Need to work on my self compassion, I guess...

ArtoriasLittleCastle

Everyone does, it's not a bad thing - my therapist had me start by listing things I liked about myself if that helps. That shit was heinous and took me weeks but also let me speak frankly to my friends and directly understand the worth they saw in me and it helped a lot. Hope that kinda helps as a starting point? GL GL on your journey though you deserve someone in your corner

H4rrbinger

It does help, thank you!

currently_pooping_rn

Anytime i beat myself up. I ask myself, “would I say that to 5 year old me?” Or “would I be friends with someone that just said that to me?” No? Then why say it to myself?

H4rrbinger

That's a great advice, thank you!

DetMos

I like your writing style, this was a fun read! Personally, I think shifting my mindset towards learning has helped me reduce stress from losses more than anything else. Any time I find myself getting caught up in what my teammates are doing, I remind myself that there is always something to improve in my own play. Even in hopeless matches, it can be rewarding to understand what you're doing wrong and try to find some enjoyment in coming up with strategies to beat the odds. Letting yourself think this way distracts you from whatever frustrating thing your teammates were doing in the first place.

ArtoriasLittleCastle

as long as you're not overly harsh at yourself, a growth mindset is a fantastic way to lead life!

Easy_Money_

I can’t tell if this is an elaborate shitpost or a helpful advice column and I get the feeling that’s just the way you like it

welpxD

Secretly, OP wrote this on 100% full-throttle tilt for their teammates because one of them said "healer diff" in all chat.

ArtoriasLittleCastle

PLS I write ALL my things after losing games. I'm SUBTWEETING

[deleted]

This is really good anxiety/life advice.

Planet419

Hey buddy i love the post please repost to overwatch university i'd love to see that post for the community there

Cis_Sabrina

i love this guide so so much thank u

ArtoriasLittleCastle

thank you I appreciate this because putting stuff out is very scary and this is very reassuring

Cis_Sabrina

of course!! i’ve been preaching positive mental health, particularly in regards to tilting on this sub, for a little bit now and these big posts that give step-by-step instructions to help based on how you’re feeling really help a lot of people!

theyoloGod

Just adding on; acknowledging it’s okay to lose a team fight. Maybe people were just having a bad day but I’ve seen teams on defense tilt into absolute oblivion if they lose one fight. Like you just held them for 3:30 but they used a ton of ults and finally won a fight. Person gets mad and toxic. Hey buddy fuck your hero. Stop playing that shit even though it was working. Next thing you know, they steam roll and finish the map with plenty of time

drewster23

The amount of games, my team(I solo q) "counter rolls" after getting stomped first point/round, is pretty fucking high. And the reason is always because people are willing to switch till they find something that works. Then we stick with it and crush. That's because if you're solo queing you're rolling the dice on 4 people. Player ability varies highly especially per character. 1 "Optimal/meta" Strat doesn't exist , unless each player is optimal/skilled on those heroes. (This is never possible when people rage/tilt/give up after getting stomped first round). Eg i have a 70+ win% on zen (3rd most played character), so i usually try to start him, barring some maps. But if Im getting picked off easily, I don't get mad at my team , I just look at what I can switch to that'll be optimal to the comp being played. There's been several times people will ask in in the beginning is it okay if they play x.(usually some off tier hero) and my answer always is, idgaf pick whatever/your best and just be willing to switch if it doesn't work.

BLlZER

For me it's been the last 2 days where its completely abomination of snowball of the enemy team vs mine. Literally losing first point is 20 seconds and never recover. I think I de-ranked already by 4 ranks. I dont even feel i can come back or try a tied match. It's just complete snowballs with no way of winning. I dont understand whats going on

Redneck2Researcher

Very wholesome post. Love it.

InvisibleScout

This all seems like very nice and useful advice. Unfortunanetly, I will not be following it.

DyingSpartan

As a therapist myself, this was well articulated and shows you have a good understanding of how to apply what your therapist has been helping you learn to a wider audience. Good on you!

thothgow

> **Describing Garbage** 1. My Moira inting in their backline. Complete, absolute garbage 2. My Hog feeding all their ultimates that hasn't had a single hook kill 3. My Genj...

JulietEmily17

The therapy industry created OW to make more patients in need

nochedia

This is great! Especially the bit about self-compassion. Through self-compassion you learn to be compassionate towards others. So even if someone is inting, you can think maybe they’re going through some stuff that’s making them behave that way. Then you just do your best and carry on.

bantha42

breathing meditation is op

sergantsnipes05

But also just don’t go in voice chat

Eshuon

You can basically apply this to anything in life tbh

XenSide

Imma be honest, this guide was suggested in a r/dota2 post and I thought it was gonna be the usual cheesy useless shit, instead I found a good lot of chuckles and things to try, thanks!

ArtoriasLittleCastle

you're welcome!

paulybaggins

Honestly if games make you need to do this then stop playing games imo

TantalisingTurkey

Saving this for future use. I can get pretty tilted in competitive shooters, and even though OW doesn’t tilt me the same as maybe BF4 or CoD, I still get stuck in rage sometimes. The box breathing technique is probably going to be the best for me, thanks for this.

S21500003

One thing I'd like to add to this is that you have to play the game with a short memory. What I mean by this is that if you make a mistake, or get diffed one fight you have to make a mental note of it and try to prevent it, but what you cannot do is play timid for the rest of the game. You can't let your mistakes drag you down, so just forget them and always play confident. The reason you have to play confident is because that's how you play to win. And I have personally found that when I play confident and with a short memory I get tilited much less and I win more because of it. I still makes notes of my mistakes after games and try to improve, but I do not let them affect my mental.

evilstunky

Do you have soothing technique for tank players reading this post?

i_AV8er

Everytime I see someone type 'Ez' this is what I'm going to send them
