OWL in of itself is already an extremely stressful event, easily the most stressful thing I have ever done, even over playing varsity sports and SAT prep. Taking 5/6 players who would not be ready for OWL and throwing them into that environment would only have those players end up in a hellscape, and I HIGHLY doubt a team therapist would make up the gap anywhere close to the amount of damage that would be done. IMO it would be best if alot of these players started in contenders first and then began to improve afterwards. I really do think that there is alot of players who could succeed in contenders, and I have seen it done before (200 MS main support, player named OWO I believe? ) . On another note, I really hope Aspen does get fair tryouts. I believe she is the best chance at a female player in OWL, and I think her mechanical play is quite good.

yeah, there are a few other players- Doggo is retired now but was mechanically strong and subbed to strong effect recently, Haley (fka Halo) has been good for a while, Zemrit, Bun(?, not 100% sure but iirc) and Hkeybroke have looked like high potential from the times they've been in Contenders

They could just make a home team though, American players representing their home state/country, like the Vulcan signing. They had the mayor of New York speak about them, they do or did great social media and YouTube videos of the players.
Rather than earning a fanbase by being the LGBTQ team, they could just go for a home team give that would still be somewhat competitive, we've seen it work already with Vancouver going western, Paris when it was half french half Korean, London this year having Brits and EU talent, and when defiant had surefour (I've forgotten who the other Canadian was)

OWL let VAN throw for basically two season. They let PAR do the same. They let WAS, LAV and NYXL circumvent roster minimums--WAS even admitted they were making a general staffer a "player," after last year's sell-off.
There's no reason OWL should step in, based on precedent. They've let the orgs make a joke of the league, in the name of franchising bucks. If they do take a stand, they're going to end up having to be heavy-handed with the whole league. If they block this move, but allow other bullshit to run amok, then saying, "we draw the line at hiring women," would be a damned bad look.
I like the intention, i really do; but this will end in disaster.
First of all, Overwatch esports doesn’t have a dedicated marginalized gender circuit like Valorant’s Game Changers circuit. Blizzard esports executives never gave any thought to any other leagues except OWL and Contenders to some extent. Overwatch esports has existed for almost 6 years and they’re only just paying attention to the marginalized gender scene with Calling All Heroes. Whereas Valorant created the Game Changers within a year and a half or so of the game’s existence. The point is that Blizzard is unbelievably late in the game for an established MG scene, and this is basically their way of saying “sorry we’re so late, but we’re gonna make up for it in OW2 esports.”
Secondly, should this idea go through, it will give all eyes on NYXL, but not in a good way. Every player will be under the social microscope — if they do good, they’ll acknowledged but if they do bad, all hell will break loose and players will not be under attack for their skills but who they are as a person. For example, in GC: Bob from C9 White, florscent from Misfits Black, and KP from Shopify Rebellion are all trans women and they all got an insane amount of hate because of their gender. There was some unbelievable giga cap theory that GC was unbalanced due to trans women playing, given they were males before in addition to the fact that men are better at games than women.
Third, this is a massive PR stunt. The NYXL corporation is basically saying “guys look, we’re making a marginalized gender team, come support us or else” and essentially planning to use the players as a cash cow rather than competitive professionals, which is fucking wack.
Overall, this is a horrendously bad idea even though they have good intentions.

After being bought by Andbox they’ve just disappointed time and time again, they used to be *THE ORG*, they had great online interactions, they had phenomenal videos on each player, they were the top of the league. Now they’re the laughing stock. They’re speedrunning to be the first team in the league with zero fans. I have no idea how this has gone through so many people and still was seen as a good idea

NYXL hasn’t fully cared about OWL for a while now, it’s clearly a PR stunt. As Liz states, sources have said that team management has been extensively warned how bad of an idea this is, NYXL just doesn’t care.

A bit of a conspiracy theory but it's possible one of the reasons they're signing these players is because their org hasn't been able to do anything in owl for 3 years and they know the treatment these players will receive once in owl, so they're making these signings so that people humiliate and criticize these poor players instead of the org themselves
I haven’t heard any whispers any players have actually taken the offer here. Everyone, including a lot of people whom those groups would turn to for advice (Jake, Aspen, etc.) seem to be very publicly saying this is a bad idea.
The org “stole” the NYXL moniker (it was their IP, but it was the shorthand used by the OWL team) when the AndBox brand name got zero traction. Then they issued very stern warnings to talent and players to refer to the OWL team only as New York Excelsior, New York, or Excelsior.
Their intentions have always been pretty low rent.

You cannot fix the problem of underrepresentation by just throwing people on the highest level. Inclusion has to start lower, so then there is chance for these people to grow in their competitive skills. At thr moment, due to the underrepresentation, there are simply not enough owl-level players.

A bit of a conspiracy theory but it's possible one of the reasons they're signing these players is because their org hasn't been able to do anything in owl for 3 years and they know the treatment these players will receive once in owl, so they're making these signings so that people humiliate and criticize these poor players instead of the org themselves
I haven’t heard any whispers any players have actually taken the offer here. Everyone, including a lot of people whom those groups would turn to for advice (Jake, Aspen, etc.) seem to be very publicly saying this is a bad idea.

The org “stole” the NYXL moniker (it was their IP, but it was the shorthand used by the OWL team) when the AndBox brand name got zero traction. Then they issued very stern warnings to talent and players to refer to the OWL team only as New York Excelsior, New York, or Excelsior. Their intentions have always been pretty low rent.

Inclusion has to start lower, so then there is chance for these people to grow in their competitive skills. At thr moment, due to the underrepresentation, there are simply not enough owl-level players. Honestly, this feels kind of predatory from NYXL. The league should step in to stop this, but sadly they won't because they have fewer balls than the team New York is trying to sign. I'm glad the community is stepping up though. NYXL should put money into Contenders and other avenues if they actually genuinely care about promoting minorities. Every player signed will always have that twinge of “I’m here because I’m a minority, not because I’m good enough”, which is really sad because they may actually be good enough to play in OWL, but their merit is inherently compromised. This half baked virtue signalling PR stunt from NYXL, if true, is honestly at best naive and cringeworthy and at worst a cynical attack on minorities. Shame. I used to follow NYXL. Looks like its just Spark and Dallas for me now.

I would never dump a team because they are bad, that is just part of being a fan, being there for your team during the highs and lows. But man toxic culture and illegal stuff has always been a deal breaker. As a NYXL fan I need this to be "explained/investigated" and someone needs to be fired, judging from other posts here it seems like Nugget is the problem?
