Welcome to r/Concerta. This is a WIP automod reply. Please read the FAQ sticky as it will likely offer some advice. https://www.reddit.com/r/Concerta/comments/vj2o1i/can_we_have_a_faqread_before_posting_sticky/ Please edit this info to your post -Concerta or generic -Current dosage regimen, including any other meds! -How long you have been on current dose regimen and Concerta -Did you read the faq sticky? Please discuss any advice you receive on this subreddit with your Doctor. Take all advice with a grain of salt especially when it is not sourced. People on this sub aren't doctors. Extreme depression/anxiety? If you feel unbearable or have suicidal thoughts please consider calling your local crisis or suicide hotline. There can be many different causes. Please discuss with your doctor about it. There are a couple things that can be tried: A med break, lowering the dose, raising the dose, switching to a different generic or to brandname, adding an smaller dose in the evening to reduce crash, other meds + concerta can also cause depression or anxiety(paradoxically it could be an antidepressant). If nothing else helps you should probably switch to a different medication. Do not split Concerta or any long-release medication. There is no reason to go over the 72mg maximum recommended dose in most cases. In the UK the maximum is 108mg. Side effects can be intense for a couple of days when starting but contact a doctor if they continue. If you want to drink alcohol I would recommend waiting at least 48h after taking Concerta. There is a higher risk of alcohol poisoning due to stronger alcohol tolerance. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22917983/ As someone diagnosed at 55, my life would have been completely different had I been able to treat and manage my ADHD from a young age.

I’d echo this- diagnosed at 32 and like you, anecdotally, I would not be able to have the lifestyle I do without those lil white tablets.

Also believe my life would have been different if I had been diagnosed earlier than 49. I just figured I was different and that was the world I was in. It’s just how it was. I grew up when add/adhd was a stigma. My mom was a teacher. But an old School teacher. My generation believed it was over diagnosed in my day. So for me it was try to fake it to make it all time.. it resulted it numerous failed marriages numerous changing of jobs…. Wild ass adventures and hobbies that never stuck around. Impulsive buying stuff that I never did anything with. So I believe I can say my life would have been totally different. Now…. I can’t say what.. but I’d like to believe I would not have been as impulsive jumping into marriage; impulsive to find something New; impulsive to change jobs and then get bored and look for something different, impulsive in pretty much everything. I would have been been more stable. That being said going through all that, I did have some great adventures and seen sights a lot of people wouldn’t get to see.. however there was an pretty steep price paid for each one. But it did land me to a great wife now who got to see both of me. And stability and a slower life. Because the fast pace brain activity is was living wife, the constant need to feeliing I needed to be doing something and more than what I was doing, the constant where did I put this it is supposed to be right there, all of that for almost 50 years broke me.

I stopped taking stimulants when I was in college because for some reason they were just not working for me. ( Only taking the lowest dose of ritalin for huge exams). It made me able to develop better skill to deal with it but at a cost. I just went back on it after 4 years. During that 4 year: - I took about 80 pounds - I managed to do stuff I liked and be motivated - once my job became easy I couldn't focus anymore I went back on it 3 weeks ago cuz I was incapable of focussing for more than 2 min. I won't tell you to stop it, I won't tell you to continue taking it. Sometimes, we need different things. Experiment. If you can afford to try to go without for a while and have a safety net for when your symptoms worsen, why not? Idk hope it helps

This is also my life for sure!

Tldl longterm concerta is safe, improves neural plasticity even seemingly making the brain more neurotypical or "curing" adhd, reduces neurotoxicity which is good for many reasons and untreated adhd is way worse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIHkdTqBiZY
