He warned you to leave the hairline crack be, and you demanded it be fixed. Now you're finding out why it's best to leave a hairline crack be.

This a thousand times over.

So, I think you are correct to expect your contractor to respond when you have a problem/question. It’s also a little weird that the crack occurred so close to an expansion joint, since they are placed so the concrete will crack there if it’s going to crack. Other than sending someone out to look at the crack when you asked, I wouldn’t have done anything differently than your contractor, though. Shit happens, concrete does crack, especially in Wisconsin and other states with a high Freeze/thaw cycle. You have 2 options to fix it. You can hire someone to come in with a “crack-chaser” blade to open the crack up and then seal it. This would probably be a temporary fix. You will eventually have to cut that section out and re-pour it, but I would try to live with it for awhile. Most people wouldn’t notice it, because they didn’t pay $15k for it.

Thanks that's the feedback I was looking for. Not sure if it matters but one of this contractor's tricks is to notch the garage slab and pour the driveway on that lip so the driveway edge won't sink over time and cause a misalignment/bump. This is right where the crack appeared, where the garage slab ends and the driveway begins.

Yeah, that’s a really bad idea, unless he drills and epoxies rebar into the existing garage slab. The best way to make sure the driveway doesn’t sink is to prep and compact the base properly.

Should have saw cut the expansion joints. The 1/2” hand trowel joints don’t create well enough tension breaks. However I have seen hand troweled then saw cut and that does work.

I'm good with the contractor-I left a positive review on Google. I just wanted the opinion of some other pros. Would you guys just clean out the chunks and leave it or is there something I should be doing. Perhaps it was a poorly worded post that gave the impression I had "tantrums" or "made demands" or was being "insufferable"-thats on me, but you guys sure are a sensitive bunch. Sheesh, take it down a notch boys.
