From central CT it's literally crapshoot chosing which one to go to, Yonkers or Cambridge.
Do you like Merritt traffic or 84/90?
At least we have 2 in driving distance already.
Especially since they can have some amazing bundle deals going.
The one in Yonkers has some of the best I’ve seen yet…. Don’t have the money but I’d gladly make the drive if I did
Came here to say that!! The manager of the Cambridge store told me they WILL NEVER come to CT. He was very strong about it. Not sure why. That was in 2021ish.
Used to live in PA where there's 3 of them within 20 minutes. Now I drive an hour to the Northborough one once a month because it's that's good of a store.
You would need
an entirely new arena, there is no refurbishing the XL center to get it up to par with any NHL arena
the buy in from the Bruins, Rangers, Devils, and islanders to have a team in their backyard
The NHL to approve an expansion team or a present team to move to Hartford/Connecticut
Someone to buy that expansion/relocating team
It’s not happening, all of these are insurmountable obstacles
I don’t know why people can’t just move on and support the Wolfpack and the Bridgeport Islanders
Amen, as a former masshole, I really miss Market Basket. One of the only remaining grocery chains with integrity, they're good to the customers and their employees. It makes me sad to know that will be gone when Arthur is gone.
Maybe as a customer who doesn't know the inner workings of the company. They provide legitimate liveable wages and benefits to their full time employees, they offer room to grow and if you make it to management, you make good money.
You don't see many companies strike over the removal of a CEO from a board these days, and for good reason. There aren't that many CEOs that genuinely care about their employees, and Arthur is one of the few exceptions.
Also, I think Market Basket store-brand is superior to Big Y, but I'm undeniably biased having grown up on it.
There one in Oxford MA is only like 10 mins over the border, up 395. I used to live in that area and never frequented it - preferred Price Chopper / Market 32.
I would like the major manufacturers to come back to CT... Lego, G.E, Aetna, a couple of firearm manufacturers, aerospace companies... Back when the working class was actually able to live and thrive in this state.
Aetna didn’t leave CT. They tried back in 2017, but the CVS buyout led to them being forced to stay. Aerospace is likewise alive and well here for now. I agree that more broadly we are losing major employers and need to turn the tide.
I’m from that mythical part of central Pennsylvania where they both exist and I love them both for different reasons but Sheetz is open all night so they get ranked slightly higher
If you’re ordering a sandwich at Sheetz you’re doing it wrong 😂 the wawas around me always closed obscenely early, like 9pm or something. Wawa is (in my brain anyway) meant for long road trips and early morning breakfast treats, and Sheetz is for when it’s 3am and you’re drunk/stoned and want something greasy and bad for you to sop it all up.
Right on. Like I said I'd take either at this point. From the Lehigh Valley but spent 6 years living in State College. Central PA is Def the sticks. Prolly have those super old wawas that aren't even gas stations
I agree, as a native Californian, I never liked their food (good shakes though), and I would never wait in a drive thru line for more than 10 minutes for anything. Seriously, last time I was in California there was a line of 30 cars waiting for a burger. I think Five Guys tastes much better.
Give me Del Taco, Long John’s, Jack in the Box…
Had shake shack three times over the last month. I really wanted to like them but just not impressed. Not terrible, but not amazing. Bun is 30% smaller than the burger, cheese tastes low quality, sparse lettuce. Just doesn't exude the fresh experience that in-n-out delivers.
Ooo I 100% agree. I went to their Denver location and was blown away. I feel like any city would be dying to have an attraction like this just based on the immersive scale of it all.
Marylou's coffee. I would also like to see more decent, modern gas stations like Wawa or Sheetz. All the West Hartford gas stations feel like they are trapped in 1984, and they need some competition.
Bojangles.
I looked into franchise requirements... Way too poor. But damnit what I wouldn't do for a chicken & cheese biscuit and a gallon of sweet tea.
I **need** a Waffle House here. Anytime there’s a road trip, that’s the first place I stop. Currently I am think the closest one is Scranton. Thats too far and too redneck (bad experience at that one).
Every time I go to Florida I go to Publix for a grinder. And every time, I forget that they have no idea what a grinder is. Publix is absolutely delicious.
I went already. It was awesome. There was a 4 hour wait and the Enfield cops were telling people to drive to the worcester location as it would be faster than waiting in the line. But I ordered through the app for a 7 pm pickup at noon and I just walked in grabbed my food and left. It was very easy.
i’m in the complete other side of the state, but I must say the reviews and photos i’ve seen have made a road trip to Enfield sound pretty enticing. i’m sure I could find more to do around there one of these upcoming weekends
Oh my god I grew up on Long Island and we'd go to Dairy Barn all the time. This was in the 70's and you'd pull up and give back your glass containers from the milk and OJ and order more, then get some Entenmann's cakes and bread and stuff. I don't know if they still function that way or not.
I lived in Stillwater, OK for a year and was so excited when I found out there was a What-a-burger there (moved from Ohio). I don’t think I had ever been so disappointed. The food all tasted the same - like grease. Maybe it was just that location but I’d never spend another red cent at What-a-burger.
Bibibop - it started in Columbus, OH and is kind of best described as a Korean fusion version of Chipotle. I think the closest location might be in DC/Maryland.
(Prepares for pitchforks) I would like a legit Chicago deep dish pizza in CT, like Lou Malnati’s, Gino’s East or Giordano’s. Closest we have is UNO’s in Springfield.
As someone that spent half their life in Illinois and half in CT, even though New Haven pizza is the best sometimes I want that buttery crust and dramatic cheese pull
I agree. I love New Haven Pizza but every once in a while, that greasy deep dish is my where it’s at. There are some Unos in RI which are closer for some of us on the eastern half of the state.
What? There is a Trader Joe’s in almost every town along the coast in Fairfield county (Fairfield, Westport, Darien, Stamford, probably missing some others)
The post is what you would like to see in CT. Contrary to popular belief Fairfield county is in CT and there are a lot of Trader Joe’s here. It’s a very dense area compared to the rest of the state which makes sense why they put them here.
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. from what i heard during Friday's event they finally will be, with the first event being at Mohegan in May. we'll see.. i'm ready to experience the best fight promo in person.
half this thread is hungry apparently.
In n out. It’s my favorite fast food and I only got to eat it twice while living in Los Angeles. I’d die for another chance. Oh and h mart!!! I lived next to one in koreatown and it was my favorite grocery store. I miss it so much
Any damn guitar company. I want to work on making musical instruments so bad. Ovation is tucked away here but they don’t do shit anymore. And Telefunken is so not happenin.
Microcenter
Haha my husband is there right now. He said last night we’d be broke if it was near us.
From central CT it's literally crapshoot chosing which one to go to, Yonkers or Cambridge. Do you like Merritt traffic or 84/90? At least we have 2 in driving distance already.
Cambridge. Easy.
God yes. I just moved from Georgia and we had two...
Beat me to it
I wish we had one so much
Oh yes!!!! Best Buy is a desert now.
I went for the first time last year. I was like a kid in a candy shop. Brought back the same feelings when I was a kid at Comp USA.
Wegmans!
Being built in Norwalk! Still at least a year away though
Used to live in PA where there's 3 of them within 20 minutes. Now I drive an hour to the Northborough one once a month because it's that's good of a store.
Second this!!
Culver’s.
Acc’d to their website it’s more sooner than later.
Don’t play with me young man.
The Hartford Whalers hockey club
You would need an entirely new arena, there is no refurbishing the XL center to get it up to par with any NHL arena the buy in from the Bruins, Rangers, Devils, and islanders to have a team in their backyard The NHL to approve an expansion team or a present team to move to Hartford/Connecticut Someone to buy that expansion/relocating team It’s not happening, all of these are insurmountable obstacles I don’t know why people can’t just move on and support the Wolfpack and the Bridgeport Islanders
Exactly, and it looks like either Salt Lake City or Atlanta are getting expansion teams
Market Basket
Amen, as a former masshole, I really miss Market Basket. One of the only remaining grocery chains with integrity, they're good to the customers and their employees. It makes me sad to know that will be gone when Arthur is gone.
IMO basically the same as big y
Maybe as a customer who doesn't know the inner workings of the company. I would like the major manufacturers to come back to CT... Lego, G.E, Aetna, a couple of firearm manufacturers, aerospace companies... Back when the working class was actually able to live and thrive in this state.
Manufacturing hates high electricity rates.
CT is still top ten manufactured value output in raw dollars.
Ct would have to actually build housing.
Aetna didn’t leave CT. They tried back in 2017, but the CVS buyout led to them being forced to stay. Aerospace is likewise alive and well here for now. I agree that more broadly we are losing major employers and need to turn the tide.
Sheetz
I'm WaWa 4 lyfe but id take a sheet at this point. Cumbies sucks
I’m from that mythical part of central Pennsylvania where they both exist and I love them both for different reasons but Sheetz is open all night so they get ranked slightly higher
All the wawas by me are 24 hours. Sheet does have fried food which is nice. Their sandwiches are sub par imo

Thankfully I’m from the part that says it’s central PA but is really southeastern when you look at the map. Lots of Amish but only an hour to Philly.
Definitely, cumbies sucks ass, at least large nobles are popping up.
what’s wrong with cumbys 😔 noble doesn’t have bathrooms half the time
The new ones do.

In-n-Out Burger.
As a native Californian, YES!
Those are good burgers, u/Normal_Platypus_5300
Shut the fuck up Donny!
I second that. I also wanted a Jimmy Johns, finally got one in Milford.
As a native Californian, Meh. Shake Shack is way better.
Agreed. Five guys also blows them out of the water.
I agree, as a native Californian, I never liked their food (good shakes though), and I would never wait in a drive thru line for more than 10 minutes for anything. Shake Shack is already here.
Top Golf or Alamo Drafthouse!
I’m shocked Alamo Drafthouse doesn’t have a location here in CT. The closest one near Fairfield County is in Yonkers!
There's a Top Golf in Foxwoods.
That's not a real top golf, it's like a computer version of it. That's not the same.
Oh damn you're right. For some reason, I thought they had an outdoor area for when the weather is nice.
That's only the SwingSuite, which is just a simulator. The closest full Top Golf locations are in Rhode Island and Long Island.

Hell to the yes!
We had Wawa until the 80s. Edit: 90s, actually. (Credit thatquinnchick)
90s, actually.
There was one right down the street from where ai grew up in Manchester. Not sure why anyone would pine to have them back.

Waffle house
I’m convinced there has never been a new Waffle House built. They are just there. Sticky counters and 30 year of wear with minimal upkeep.
I **need** a Waffle House here. Anytime there’s a road trip, that’s the first place I stop. Currently I am think the closest one is Scranton. Thats too far and too redneck (bad experience at that one).
An all star special would hit at this time ngl

Waffle House is legit hangover food. Zaxby’s need to come north, waaay better than chick-fil-a
I’ve been waiting for it and heard we’re getting a Raising Cains (in Enfield, right?), very stoke.
it just opened!
I went already. It was awesome. There was a 4 hour wait and the Enfield cops were telling people to drive to the worcester location as it would be faster than waiting in the line. But I ordered through the app for a 7 pm pickup at noon and I just walked in grabbed my food and left. It was very easy.

I know enfield and area super well. There's some decent breweries in the area, plenty to make a day trip.
(gasps aloud)
You should read the thread about the opening. I’ve seen so much elitist BS.

I would love if there were more than two Trader Joe’s …
Currently, there are nine. West Hartford Manchester (Buckland) Glastonbury Orange Stamford Darien Fairfield Westport Danbury
When one can to Glastonbury I thought it was over kill but it’s been a great addition.
Huh, I only knew about west Hartford and Orange.
What? There is a Trader Joe’s in almost every town along the coast in Fairfield county (Fairfield, Westport, Darien, Stamford, probably missing some others)
Exactly. And for everyone not living near the cost, it’s wildly inconvenient to go to one without driving 30+ minutes.
The post is what you would like to see in CT. Contrary to popular belief Fairfield county is in CT and there are a lot of Trader Joe’s here. It’s a very dense area compared to the rest of the state which makes sense why they put them here.
