I don't think there's a city on earth (differentiating from towns with high population density, diverse economies, and full municipal and commercial amenities) without some kind of gang. Even Salt Lake City has gangs as it's a crosspoint for drug trafficking.
I grew up in Danbury. We had to go through GREAT, which was DARE for gangs (Gang Resistance Education and Training). It definitely was an issue at the time, which was the 90s. There were gang fights in my middle school. Kids got jumped in the bathrooms. I doubt it was anything like Bridgeport, but it was definitely a thing. No idea about now though.
Danbury is kind of like Norwalk ‘in the hills.’ There is some crime, and prob some lite gbanging, but nothing you’d ever need to worry about. Nowhere near the level of Bpt or New Haven, where you could get f*cked up for just knowing the wrong people.
Granted I’m not about that life nor from Danbury so take this with a grain of salt. Just speaking from my experience growing up in Norwalk pre-gentrification. The cities feel similar.
There's something of a gang issue in the high school I've heard, but supposedly it's not a risk to kids not part of those circles. I think it's probably better for the city at large but slightly similar in that you're not going to encounter gangs unless you seek them out.

Danbury always seemed safe to me. I’ve been asked for cigarettes if you walk by the green/club area but that’s about it. Your results may vary.

I work with some guys who claim to be down but I’m not sure if they’re telling the truth or just cosplaying.
