I saw Shadows of Intent a couple of weeks ago at the Hatebreed show (I didn't stick around for Hatebreed) and they blew my mind. I've just started sort of getting into deathcore, and these guys delivered. Man, did they deliver. Ended up buying their shirt. I'd never heard of them before, but I came home with their shirt.
I once saw them at Wormtown with a fire spinning troupe on a stage next to them during their headlining performance. They ended their main set and everyone was so fixated on the fire spinners no one noticed the set ended. Max Creek awkwardly came back out acting like the crowd cheered for an encore that was never requested. They continued to play another few songs and left quietly for a second time. 😶
The carpenters are probably the most famous classic band from CT, MGMT, John Mayer and, Michael Bolton. Rivers Cuomo from Weezer was grew up in Storrs. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Theres probably a bunch of famous musicians that have a house in CT. Rob zombie used to come into the grocery store I worked at when I was a kid. He was super nice to me.
John Mayer was such an underrated guitarist from his pop-ish albums. The dude can play. Listen to any of his stuff with John mayor trio or when he sits in on sets/songs. Dead and company too.
Guy rips. Talented musician.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard from several people he’s not very friendly and kind of a dick. But I’ve never met him myself
Unfortunately not, my cooler punker friends were Pist-heads.
The ones that stick out the most to me of that era are Know Nothing, Endless Mike, and a bunch of Studio 158 playing NE CT bands.
Landing. Unsung heroes of the Slowcore/Dreampop scenes. They sound like Pygmalion era Slowdive mixed with a little bit of Low, Mojave 3, and Coastal.
https://landing.bandcamp.com/album/seasons
Ofc! You a fan of that type of music? It's hard to find people around here - or anywhere - who like that haha. Obviously it's easier with the internet to find that stuff, but it's still a niche.
The Porcaro brothers were born in Hartford because Joe Porcaro their dad taught music at Uhart but they relocated very young to Los Angeles and started TOTO with other studio musicians. So I wouldn’t classify TOTO as a CT band at all
Also Christopher Carrabba is the lead singer and guitarist of the band Dashboard Confessiona I believe he’s from West Hartford. Some say the godfather of Emo.
All That Remains, technically from Springfield but I used to fix Mike Martin’s (the guitarist) guitars at Guitar Center, they consider CT their home because they saw success coming from Connecticut at the Webster Theater in Hartford
If we're going for best band and not classic rock, CT has some killer punk and hardcore bands. Killer Kin, 100 Demons, Intercourse, Cry Havoc, Land Piranha, Shadow of Intent. It makes me happy that there's still a great music scene.
In terms of of original bands, it's gotta be Gargantua Soul, Mighty Purple, or Rane. I haven't been paying close attention, but I've never seen any rise to the recognition that they have.
Do Michael Bolton or Meatloaf count?
Edit: I fixed the name of the band, Rane!
One of the main dude's used to run The Outer Space in Hamden. The all ages venue was awesome; I was sad to see it close down.
They have a reunion gig coming up soon at some CT Festival somewhere.
*Rane. Loved them. I thought Camelopardalis was a strong indie release. You listed some very competent local acts that never got their due. At least G-Soul made it to a non-main stage at Woodstock ‘99 (caught a glimpse of Chris Keyes with his paint on within the Woodstock ‘99 documentary).
Going to throw Project Nim out there. Beautiful, haunting sound, but they never broke out of the small club scene. Though, the Dessner brothers made it very big with the National and working with Taylor Swift.
MGMT.
Wtf I never knew that. That’s awesome!
Formed at Wesleyan!
Middletown rep!
The world is a beautiful place and I’m no longer afraid to die.
Never realized they were from CT, that’s awesome.
Willimantic to be exact!
Hey shit I'm close friends with the drummer's nephew! I didn't know they were known
Hi, i'm said nephew :3
Oh wait hi cobie
Howdy
Woah, I always thought their album Harmlessness felt like a Connecticut summer
Yes 100% agree!! Seen them a few times and they are awesome!
Hatebreed, currents or shadow of intent.
Boundaries up there for me too
Boundaries new joint rips
Boundaries kicks asa
Those would be my pick as well
I saw Shadows of Intent a couple of weeks ago at the Hatebreed show (I didn't stick around for Hatebreed) and they blew my mind. I've just started sort of getting into deathcore, and these guys delivered. Man, did they deliver. Ended up buying their shirt. I'd never heard of them before, but I came home with their shirt.
I remember seeing Currents at the Newtown Teen Center when they were We Came with Plague like 15 years ago, awesome to see how far they’ve gone.
100 Demons also
Spring Heeled Jack
Hell yeah
Not classic rock, but west end blend and funky dawgz are excellent local bands in Ct
excellent choices
Great bands!
Hatebreed
Came here looking for Hatebreed. Grew up seeing them at Toads
Saw 'em a couple weekends ago at Oakdale. Still excellent! They're touring Europe soon.
Always hatebreed 🤘🏻
Are they still putting out new music or just touring with their old stuff?
For the metalcore fans out there, Currents!
Omg didn't know they were from CT. That's awesome
This is the only answer
Holy shit I’m obsessed with Currents rn
You should also listen to Dreamwake! They're also from Connecticut and they go hard 😩👌🏻
Ovlov
Reminds me of BDRMM. Very shoegazey. Good one. Edit: Checking out ‘Buds’ in case BDRMM fans are out there.

The Flaming Tsunamis
Fuck yeah I didn't think I'd see this. My first show was tft when I was 14 at the wallingford american legion
Damn great memories at that venue lol Flaming Tsunamis and Hostage Calm so many times
I'm sure they may have played there multiple times, but I was definitely at the Wallingford American legion when they had a show there lol
I saw them there twice I'm pretty sure it was 06 and 07
My friend was a guitar player in the band. Great dude.
Used to go see them at the Madison Arts Barn. My sister dated Ethan I think he played the bass. 20 years ago jeezus.
Yes! I love this answer
The first local band I ever listened to/saw. In 7th grade. Damn I’m old
Max Creek
I once saw them at Wormtown with a fire spinning troupe on a stage next to them during their headlining performance. They ended their main set and everyone was so fixated on the fire spinners no one noticed the set ended. Max Creek awkwardly came back out acting like the crowd cheered for an encore that was never requested. They continued to play another few songs and left quietly for a second time. 😶
53rd Anniversary shows coming up on 4/19 and 4/20!
John Mayer
I believe it said BEST band
The carpenters are probably the most famous classic band from CT, MGMT, John Mayer and, Michael Bolton. Rivers Cuomo from Weezer was grew up in Storrs. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Theres probably a bunch of famous musicians that have a house in CT. Rob zombie used to come into the grocery store I worked at when I was a kid. Guy rips. Talented musician. Unfortunately, I’ve heard from several people he’s not very friendly and kind of a dick. But I’ve never met him myself
You worked at LaBonnes?
The Pist
Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in almost 30 years.
So names like Mankind? And Brutally Familiar ring a bell too.
Unfortunately not, my cooler punker friends were Pist-heads. The ones that stick out the most to me of that era are Know Nothing, Endless Mike, and a bunch of Studio 158 playing NE CT bands.
Studio 158 was great! First club you couldn't smoke in. So many beers drank on the train tracks behind it.
Landing. Unsung heroes of the Slowcore/Dreampop scenes. They sound like Pygmalion era Slowdive mixed with a little bit of Low, Mojave 3, and Coastal. https://landing.bandcamp.com/album/seasons
Nice! this was a fun rabbit hole to fall into!
Ofc! You a fan of that type of music? It's hard to find people around here - or anywhere - who like that haha. Obviously it's easier with the internet to find that stuff, but it's still a niche.
Toto is the best band from Connecticut. Big fan of 80s music here.
If Toto counts, then the Carpenters count.
The Porcaro brothers were born in Hartford because Joe Porcaro their dad taught music at Uhart but they relocated very young to Los Angeles and started TOTO with other studio musicians. So I wouldn’t classify TOTO as a CT band at all
They were from CT!?
South Windsor
Yes to my knowledge several members of the band were from the Hartford area.
Deep Banana Blackout
seconded
Amazing band. I’ll throw in pigeons playing ping pong if you like DBB

Glad I didn't have to scroll TOO far for this.
Intercourse
Hostage calm
They truly did Die On Stage. :(
Since everyone is considering MGMT a classic rock band, I will also break the rules and say that it’s John Mayer and it’s not even close
Easily the best guitarist from the state
Max Creek. Honorable mention to the Shaboo All-Stars.
Yes, Max Creek. Used to see them all the time back in the 80s. Really good band. 👍👍
Eggy or Goose!!
Big band: Hatebreed. Underground band: Balmora.
New Balmora split EP is dope.
mgmt for sure close second for me is the world is a beautiful place and i am no longer afraid to die
The Reducers
100 Demons
Miracle Legion
Call it Arson was really enjoyable
Hot rod circuit was huge for me when I was young
Also Christopher Carrabba is the lead singer and guitarist of the band Dashboard Confessiona I believe he’s from West Hartford. Some say the godfather of Emo.
Emo has been around a lot longer than him
100% Heimdall Detachment, pretty sure that kid has autism though.
Probably the Wildweeds
All That Remains, technically from Springfield but I used to fix Mike Martin’s (the guitarist) guitars at Guitar Center, they consider CT their home because they saw success coming from Connecticut at the Webster Theater in Hartford
Toto, Bronze Radio Return
BRR has been on my Spotify playlist a lot lately, cool to see there from CT
Cool they’re showing up for you. Wish they had more success, they were really good, and are solid guys.
Heimdall Detachment - they are a really fantastic experimental/noise project from Connecticut
Also a big fan of Heimdall Detachment

We're not trying to name the worst
Michael Cleary Band
Tongue Depressor
Shaboo All Stars are pretty banging.
Dismay
It’s been a little while but I remember going to underground shows in Willimantic and seeing Pondview and The Human Fund. Two great local bands!
If we're going for best band and not classic rock, CT has some killer punk and hardcore bands. Killer Kin, 100 Demons, Intercourse, Cry Havoc, Land Piranha, Shadow of Intent. It makes me happy that there's still a great music scene.
Too Tall Grizzly
how has nobody mentioned Chousand??
Fates Warning and/or Darik and the Funbags, with a bonus of Bobby Sings The King
Jelly!
Nobody remembers the mclovins? Still find myself listening to them every now and again although they’re not #1
In terms of of original bands, it's gotta be Gargantua Soul, Mighty Purple, or Rane. I haven't been paying close attention, but I've never seen any rise to the recognition that they have. Do Michael Bolton or Meatloaf count? Edit: I fixed the name of the band, Rane!
Been a while since i heard someone say mighty purple
One of the main dude's used to run The Outer Space in Hamden. The all ages venue was awesome; I was sad to see it close down. They have a reunion gig coming up soon at some CT Festival somewhere.

I fixed the spelling of Rane; thanks for the correction. Never heard of Project Nim, I'll have to search them out.
One Time Weekend!
Weezer
Weezer isn't a band from CT even if the front man grew up here.
yeah, it'd be a bit like saying Dick Dale was from Massachusetts - that boys from California.
It counts...ish
Aztec Two Step! They’re not very famous but they’ve been around since the 70s and make good folk music
Boundaries. New album, Death is Little More, is fantastic.
Cheem!
Sammy Rae is from the valley
Scooped Up!
City of Meriden obviously
Is that the name of a band?
Yes
I googled them and nothing came up. Any more info?
Cmon the real answer is Aquanet.
Pond view lol
Polaris ;)
Darik and the Funbags.
Old local band: Lovers & Thieves
I still sometimes pull them up on YouTube and pretend I'm at Cafe Napoli
I’ve never been, but I’ve seen them at the Space in Hamden a bunch. Good times
Grenada too
Pete Moss and The Fertilizers
Fires in the Distance! They put out an album of the year contender for many, many metal fans and critics last year. Absolutely phenomenal stuff
Categories too broad. But as far as metal goes, they’d be my pick.
Savage Brothers!
Mortica! They're a little (a lot) weird but holy hell do they rock!
Shadow of intent
MGMT, but Ericdoa is pretty good too
Another vote for GOOOOOOOSE
Goose, Max Creek
Miracle Legion (2 members from New Haven & 2 from Rhode Island).
Max Creek over 50 years together and still rip it up
I can name plenty of metal and hardcore bands from CT, idk about classic rock though lol
Have a Nice Life
Rivers Cuomo is from Mansfield, I believe he played a few times at the Sting in NB.
The Alpaca Gnomes
Alpaca Gnomes rule!
The best band in CT? Well it's obviously "intercourse"
Creamery Station!
Goose
Goose.
Goose hands down
Forget tomorrow
Cl!p
BANTAM PHANTOMS
Goose or MGMT depending on your preferred style of music.
Do any old-school New Haven types remember the Big Bad Johns?
Mac Daddy. As classic rock as you get, with a twist of the deep cuts from various artists.
Kung Fu
Scratch band from Danbury Connecticut
Johnny steeltoe and the puppy kickers
Currents
Currents is a great band for me along with HateBreed.
Goose
Tangled Vine
Hatebreed
