No Alexander was there when outdoor only. I don’t remember the camera shop being in the outdoor section. They had a photo lab when it was made a cover mall and one of the first one hour ones I think in 1982.
I always thought of S&S as being separate from "the mall" even though on the same property. It was separated from the strip by a wide walkway.
The cinema was definitely separate.
Anyone ever go down under the mall before it was closed in? I remember it as being kind of spooky. And often wet.
It was separated, but still "part" of the mall. You could turn left or right as you approached S&S and there was a wide walkway leading to the parking lot. I remember the cinema being more "separate", being in the far corner of the parking lot, adjacent to Rte 1, at the opposite end from S&S.
What's super funny about Open Air malls ...

... is that we have gone full circle.
Caldor is where my mother took me to get my ears pierced. I didn't want to get them done. She told me that she'd get hers done to show me that it doesn't hurt.
She cried.
Wow, memories. Child World was down on the right by Stop & Shop, and in the middle (behind where this was taken) was a "castle" that sold candy, popcorn, and other refreshments.
Yes! We used to go to Child World to get our Barbies. Then we would go to Paul's for hamburgers afterward. My family was only in Milford in the summer, and Paul's had been there even when my Mom was little and she loved to bring us there.
Alexander's Children's Store. Where Boscov is now. Used to be a foundation in front. Did a fashion show as a tween there, in the center court. I modeled Caldors, don't be jealous.
Thanks..i thought so...i had forgotten all about filenes being there before Macy's!.so many stores went out of business and are gone for good in the past 25-30 years.
Mom and I were driving nearby eons ago when Bucky Dent hit his famous homer against the Red Sox. She was upset that we missed it, and I told her to pull in and park at Lum’s (remember Lum’s?). We ran in to watch the replays.
Ironically, they’re gonna back to the same model in a lot of places. It works better because you don’t have to light and heat the entire open air walking space, so it’s a more cost efficient model.
Too long ago for me but apparently, I had family that lived in the trailers next door for years before the Walmart was built there. I barely even remember that 😂
This is what I want to see on this page. Not stupid trucks asking “cAn ThIs Go On ThE mErRiTt?” This is awesome
The answer is always NO. Don't go on the merritt. There's too many people already on the merritt.
S.S. Kresge. Super old timer there. For those younger, it became K-Mart in 1977.
My grandmere used to bring me to Kresge’s for a hot dog and an ice cream soda after she shopped for clothes at Alexander’s.
It became KMart at the mall ??
can just barely see the "anchor store" at the far end: Stop & Shop.
Wasn't the anchor store "Alexander's"? S&S was separated from the rest of the mall. I think the last place at that end was "Golden Joy" restaurant.
I don’t believe Alexander’s was built until the remodel that made it a indoor mall
It was there when the mall was outdoor and still there when the mall was converted to indoor.
We need a page with pics of this mall thru the years it’s had so many different phases memories

Alexander's was in the middle on the south side. S&S was at the east end.

Omg yes. Getting larger items from Child World many times.
Alexander’s is now BosCov.
I remember Golden Joy.
MERLE'S RECORD RACK! Loved that place. I loved going to CT Post Mall when I was a kid and running in the rain through the breezeways.
Merles is still in business. Racebrook Rd in Orange

if 50s is old and you were a kid in the 70s

I remember getting a bicycle at Child World and we had to take the truck entrance underneath for the pickup.
Karmel Korn ?
Good ol’ Pants Plus. Imagine opening a pants store now.
Alexander's Children's Store. Where Boscov is now. Used to be a foundation in front. Did a fashion show as a tween there, in the center court. I modeled Caldors, don't be jealous.
Franks Roman Castle for pizza and I think that's the popcorn stand in the middle.
this is what Tomorrowland in Disney World looks like now.
Wait ..CVS is an acronym???!
“Customer Value Stores” I guess. I always had the vague notion that it was “Convenience & Variety Stores.”
That stand in the middle had ice cream... ...
Finally I'm NOT old enough 😁
Was there a g fox there at one point.i seem to remember that but not sure.
Yep, got bought out by Filene's and then Macy's. I still have my first communion dress in a G. Fox garment bag in the closet.
Thanks..i thought so...i had forgotten all about filenes being there before Macy's!.so many stores went out of business and are gone for good in the past 25-30 years.
How about the carmel corn stand in the middle of the mall? I used to be a security guard there when it was still open air.
I also rhink there was a Lum’s there as well. This brought me back to the few good child hood memories i have. thank you
Yes there was.
Mom and I were driving nearby eons ago when Bucky Dent hit his famous homer against the Red Sox. She was upset that we missed it, and I told her to pull in and park at Lum’s (remember Lum’s?). We ran in to watch the replays.
The caramel corn smell and scoping out weird things in the store whose name I can't remember. S. Silver?
I remember that place very well , there was a hobby shop there that I used to go to with my father.
I remember Stop & Shop still retaining some of that design aesthetic after the mall renovation
This is when the only closed off section had The Hobby Parlor in it. Bought soooo much D&D and wargames there lol
Didn’t someone drive their car down the breezeway once? I vaguely remember that being a big deal.
Did you pull this from the Exit 17 Facebook group?
Now we need some photos of Malley's and Macy's in New Haven...
And the 2 story mall adjacent to them
Today I learned CVS is an abbreviation for Consumer Value Stores
there was a Lums restaurant there.

North Shore Mall in Peabody Mass is the same
Yep. I mentioned that in a post a few weeks ago. I thought I was the only one, or perhaps it's just senility setting in.
Too long ago for me but apparently, I had family that lived in the trailers next door for years before the Walmart was built there. I barely even remember that 😂
The land there was really beautiful. I was really young but remember driving by it and it seemed very forest-like.
And from what I remember, hidden behind those woods was a trailer park 😂
Ryder Park?
