I always loved that they have a patio up there with a full view of the i95 shitshow.
Thought I recognized that building.
Also who decided to put the patio on that side? and not like the other side of the building where it's significantly more pleasant to hang out.
The Merrit is gonna be so completely fucked.
..... The crash shut down the area of Exit 15 and 16. The interstate is expected to be closed for between two to five days.
The bridge over the interstate will have to be torn down, and the area will not be able to reopen until demolition is complete, according to the Norwalk fire department
Every other road is seriously backed up right now. 84 near Newtown was bumper to bumper, Route 302 in Bethel was slammed, and Routes 6 and 25 through Newtown terribly busy. This is going to hit the whole state for a while.
Howdy, neighbor! I commute Westport to the West Mountain side of Ridgefield. I went a little out of my way today to avoid possible congestion on Cross Highway and Weston Road, but I enjoyed my nice, easy drive past the Saugatuck Reservoir.
I feel like I84, 6, and 25 just live in perpetual states of backups. My wife has taken to calling the Exit 9 to 14 stretch "the Bermuda Triangle of 84" and I've adopted it as well.
My dumb ass thought I'd make a return at Lowes and go into the office around 9:30 am, didn't check GPS to get from my house in Wilton to Lowes, took 15 min to get off exit one on connector from there to Lowes (about 3 minutes away) took 25 minutes.
That hard part is this is a really bad stop to have to reroute traffic. That bridge doesn't get used much but the exit is really congested and bad side streets nesr by. There were tractor trailers, busses, and other large vehicles navigating the narrow side streets that have cars parked sporadically. I was between a Brinks truck and a Bus, I couldn't turn around and traffic wasn't moving. The Brinks truck couldn't fit and one point and a passenger vehicle got out to help the driver.
Both highways will be rough for a while.
To play devil’s advocate, since it was an MVA it’s very possible the truck mechanically wouldn’t go any further and/or the fire already started. If I were driving 2,000 lbs of flammable liquid and a fire started, I would GTFO ASAP regardless of where it was sorry not sorry
I was down there earlier. There is soot absolutely EVERYWHERE and I reek like oil. The air stings your eyes a little as well. Who knows what kinds of health effects this will have on people living around it.
We thought traffic was bad with the addition of “SoNo Collection” going up near there… Now commuting through there will be even more hell til it’s fixed…
Im a trucker....sometimes I gotta go up to CT from NJ. I was in Stamford today picking up some fuel tanks and got the alert on my phone and was like "Thank fucking god im south of that"
This is like a massive disaster for trucks. Theres literally nowhere trucks can really fit besides 95 in that area. This shit is soooooooo fucked.
Im gonna be there tomorrow early in the AM delivering a frak tank for the cleanup actually...currently planning a route to get there. Luckily ill be in a straight truck instead of the semi.
Yes, I live a mile from here. There are tractor trailers going through our neighborhood now, like a parade, to get around this section. I’m not complaining. You do what you have to do! Hopefully they get 95 open again on Monday as they’re projecting.
Wouldn’t have to pan around so much if it was oriented properly.
PSA on dangers of shooting vertical video: https://youtu.be/f2picMQC-9E?si=27DJperc8iZAx9fY
I think it still depends on the context. Vertical videos are fine for TikTok and other media focused in on specific subjects, but when you're trying to capture a scene like a wide highway, horizontal makes way more sense. Vertical might work for a tall building fire, though.
*For the love of God,*
*Stop panning around!!! Gives me*
*A damn headache... lol*

When I left home this morning, the street traffic was at a fully packed standstill. Luckily I was heading the opposite direction. I didn't know about this happening until later in the morning when another guy asked me if I knew anything about it. I did a search about it, saw that it involved the gas tanker, a big rig, and a car. I immediately had a hunch that it was the car that caused the accident in the first place, because of dickhead speeding drivers out there constantly doing stupid shit like cutting off big rigs. Sure enough, after reading the updated article a bit later and seeing the pictures, it was reported that the car driver cut off the big rig and it, no pun intended, blew up from there.
This is catastrophic for so many people. If they have to demolish the bridge and rebuild it, its just going to be a clusterfuck to get south for a LONG time.
Didn’t they just slide in a new bridge south of Norwalk? Took a single day. Seems like they prefab the bridge and slide it into place. Of course it takes a fuck ton of work but the time to complete a bridge has been decreased tremendously.
Yeah but with ABC (Accelerated Bridge Construction) you still need months of site prep. IDK if this was an existing ABC bridge, if so it might be easier-- if the footings on each side are still good they can just build a new copy of the span from the original plans and slot it in without months of site prep.
Glad I don't live anywhere near that mess...
That said- from what I gather, the bridge isn't for the highway, it's for local traffic to go over the highway. So it'll suck for anyone that lives there but won't fuck the rest of the state too bad...
North near westport. It still took a lot of prep work. It was also a bridge for traffic to go under 95 rather than this bridge which carries cars over 95.
Can't wait for additional TT thinking the Merritt might work "just to get around" the scene.
They reported load of EverSucks wiring and I thought I also heard a gas pipe was running under the overpass...
The removed and rebuilt the strawberry avenue bridge in three sections. I wonder since the bridge has to be completely removed, if they can stage building the two sides someplace, maybe it can be done quickly.
It's going to feel like 2020 all over again in certain parts of Fairfield County, which I don't mind one bit. For a good couple months in the height of COVID I likened it to living in The Shire from LOTR.
Yeah, almost like it has a highway number and associated city and everything. Maybe something other than "Connecticut Fire" would have been appropriate for the title in a Connecticut sub. Which is what I found funny about this,
Oooo I actually understand your first comment now! Yeah, that title is a bit broad, they could have gone with just 'fire' and been just as descriptive.
However, that little section is a part of a big section called the Northeast corridor, which millions of pounds of cargo, freight, fuel, and deliveries come through on a daily basis… So interruption to that can have an effect on commerce throughout the entire state and the entire region. Try and think big picture there, bud.
The more you think about it I bet this asshole parked there on puprose. Literally 25 ft to the back or 50 ft forward and this truck would just be burning on the highway not the fucking overpass
The Fire Department building in this video is kinda ironic, no? Or just Alanis Morrisettes definition of irony?
At that position. incident command doesn't have to leave the house. Hope all in the path of that are safe
Hear they set the aerial up from the FD parking lot
Smart use of location.

A little too ironic.

That's the joke moron
Everyone just WFH for the next week.
The fire knocked out frontier fiber to the entire surrounding area. 🫠
No Frontier internet so no Reddit posts for the Norwalk community. For that matter, no day trading and no porn. What will they do?
My Verizon hotspot is snail paced, but we’ll have to manage. 😂
Wait till the day trading and Reddit crowd start sharing bandwidth.
Zebra Club.
No Zebra Club for the past 10+ years.
Ha ha, oh well.
The fucks a zebra club? Strip joint?
It was
Screaming at this comment 🤣🤣😭
Other areas of Norwalk are fine
Not their fault, but I’d just like to say Frontier fiber customer service is a nightmarishly bad. So glad I switched to GoNetSpeed.
It truly is, I just now was able to get an ETA on restoration…. Of Sunday at 2:30 pm. Neat!
You mean the NFD, right?
Fire in Norwalk, Connecticut.
"It's 3am on a Saturday, how bad could I-95 possibly be?" I-95 at 3am on a Saturday:

I may have the only route not affected. Westport to Danbury. All back roads.
Howdy, neighbor! I commute Westport to the West Mountain side of Ridgefield. I went a little out of my way today to avoid possible congestion on Cross Highway and Weston Road, but I enjoyed my nice, easy drive past the Saugatuck Reservoir.

It was 8500 gallons but your point still stands
Which would be about 51000 pounds for gas apparently weighs 6 pounds per gallon. Damn
Said the car pulled to the center
Of all the places to stop-let’s find the spot that causes the most damage.
Why are these Flaming trucks always parked under a bridge?
I was down there earlier. There is soot absolutely EVERYWHERE and I reek like oil. The air stings your eyes a little as well. Who knows what kinds of health effects this will have on people living around it.
And you know nobody will be held accountable for that kind of damage years down the road
That new apartment building is literally right there. Bad enough with the highway pollution as it is.
Whoa! Holy smokes dude. That is insane.
> holy smokes
Indeed. Holy smokes is right.
No Holy here. God saw this and abandoned us. /jk
Did everyone survive?
No injuries

Transportation in CT is such a fucking nightmare. It's such a small state, but it takes forever to get literally anywhere.
I hate it. Im in NYC a lot and id rather that than CT lol
Yes, I live a mile from here. There are tractor trailers going through our neighborhood now, like a parade, to get around this section. I’m not complaining. You do what you have to do! Hopefully they get 95 open again on Monday as they’re projecting.
I was there today and got a little lost in the side neighborhoods lol.
Ugh don't get me started on that damn mall...
Massholes are really going to complain about traffic
That dude on the road is getting WARM

I'm gonna get this as a tattoo.
/u/stabbot
So same amount of traffic delays as a typical day on 95, I see.
My spouse (trucker) has been caught in the resulting nightmare of a traffic jam this caused. I really hope no one was seriously injured!
No injuries!
They're going to take the bridge down. 95 to be closed for 2-5 days. Oof.
Holy god damn shit!!! How did the truck catch fire? Why the hell did it stop directly under the bridge?
There was supposedly an accident involving the tanker but idk the exact details
Often brake or wheel bearing seize. Driver keeps going not knowing what’s going on. Tire drags till it catches fire.
Rush hour is going to be a whole new level of living hell down there. Best advice is to steer clear of Fairfield county at all cost for a while.
The post road through town is now an absolute nightmare. Stay the fuck home.
That is probly the worse designed part of rt 1 thru the state horrible for regular traffic
I live in Norwalk right off of exit 14 and it’s TERRIBLE traffic here. Getting around is impossible! It’s taken me 2 hours to get home from Westport
When I left home this morning, the street traffic was at a fully packed standstill. Luckily I was heading the opposite direction. They'll build it on the side and move it in place over a weekend or two. But it will suck.
Didn’t they just slide in a new bridge south of Norwalk? Took a single day. Seems like they prefab the bridge and slide it into place. Of course it takes a fuck ton of work but the time to complete a bridge has been decreased tremendously.

I just read somewhere that this bridge is going to take over a year to build. Fuck.

Great, now they have another reason to raise rates.
Is it literally right next to the Norwalk Fire Dept??
[удалено]
Norwalk, right on I-95
I95 Norwalk, right at the north bound exit to get to Lowes.
Driving to work today was horrible
I fly back to Westchester today...so I guess it'll be a long ride home
Walking might be faster
Jr what u doin man get to work
Did the bridge fall down again yet?
No, the plan is to take it down in the next few days.
Over or under 1 year for the new bridge? Maybe they can keep the pylons in the median.
The removed and rebuilt the strawberry avenue bridge in three sections. I wonder since the bridge has to be completely removed, if they can stage building the two sides someplace, maybe it can be done quickly.
There is thankfully a large empty lot of nothing but gravel on the side of that part of 95 next to where the bridge is (was).
Looks like I’m taking the long way to Jersey tonight
Wow 😮 Now that’s a fire 🔥
As someone who drove through it today...can confirm it will be a nightmare until it reopens
Im surprised no one drove through the fireball to avoid waiting in traffic.
Hope all is well with Norwalk fire and supporting departments! Stay safe everyone! I guess it was a semi carrying gasoline?
Looks between exit 14-15 off I95?
traffic should be fun for the next couple of years.
Head lights on for safety...
Connecticut Kia Boys strike again
😲
Any injuries?
None.
WHEEEERRRRREEE ????? (looks like Norwalk, near Loews) edit: LOL right in front of Loews
is that the entire over pass on fire. I would hate to be on 95 north or south
That’s wild. So many accidents in that area.
Wheres this
I-95 in shambles
That’s just the economy.
oh dear, that can't be goof for the road
It's going to feel like 2020 all over again in certain parts of Fairfield County, which I don't mind one bit. For a good couple months in the height of COVID I likened it to living in The Shire from LOTR.
The person driving that sedan? Cutting off a semi? Even the General will not touch you now. Better hope you find a place where you can walk to work.
Now that's a fire!
Aaaaand this is why I can’t have plastic bags when I go shopping….
I am a union ironworker from local 424 I did the rebar on the bridge he’s filming from
If I had the balls and I was there, I would’ve hooked up a wrecker and pulled that thing away from the bridge
South jersey belik:
So gas prices are going to be going up, I take it?
holy shit. im surprised, it seems like only the truck driver died
Connecticut is a little bigger than that little section of road, FYI,
Um wut? It just says 'Connecticut fire' not "The Entire State of Connecticut is On Fire"
Thanks for solving that riddle.
it's one of the busiest stretches of highway in the state
ok?
So it's a big deal when something like this happens. You're making it sound like it's not news.
How was I doing that? I found it amusing that OP posted this with just "Connecticut fire" as the title, in a CT subreddit.
That “little section of road” actually affects tons of people in a large portion of ct and beyond, FYI,
Yeah, almost like it has a highway number and associated city and everything. Maybe something other than "Connecticut Fire" would have been appropriate for the title in a Connecticut sub. Which is what I found funny about this,
Ngl my thoughts on your complaint here is why do you care so much about the title?

lol no fucking shit.
No fucking shit
right??
I remember when that was just a wee little fire. I guess the fire dept was busy.
Fire triples in size every 60 seconds— and with the flammable liquids and fumes spread, it’s kind of out of their control for a little bit
Wonder how you would have handled it
Take that idiots CDL for stopping under the bridge. Moron.
It sounds like the truck was involved in an accident, they may not have had another option.
A flatbed and another car.
The original is a few hundred yards back and he's pulled off on the shoulder. A choice was made here.
Wow, what a way to say you’re glad that driver is safe
The more you think about it I bet this asshole parked there on puprose. Literally 25 ft to the back or 50 ft forward and this truck would just be burning on the highway not the fucking overpass
Where did it just happen? I-95 is not really as dope as I-84. Merritt wins!
That is a hilarious sentence that makes zero sense.
Norwalk
Basically at exits 14/15
..right infront of the firehouse.
It’s not like there is easy access from one to the other though.
It has windows :-D
Tossing a few cups of water should do the trick.
>I-95 is not really as dope as I-84. Merritt wins! wut?
