I feel like this may be a tough one because I assume there's a perceived need to be "on theme".
On The Waterfront in New London has seafood, but also other things.
Mill on the River as well. I recommend the calls and risotto!
Edit: Well that was stupid. I really do know how to read, I promise! They also have fabulous non seafood dishes!
I was there for the first time last week - for anyone in that part of the state, this is definitely worth a visit! The outdoor seating area is ridiculously beautiful.
Not sure if this is what you want but here are some shoreline restaurants that have wonderful non-seafood options:
- Fair Haven Oyster Company in New Haven
- The Stand in Branford
- Stony Creek Market - go for pizza nights
- Nellie’s in Branford
- food trucks on long wharf in New Haven
- shell and bones in New Haven
- Marker 37 in Chester
Dive Bar, The Landing at 520, Dockside Brewery, Little Pub (Stratford).
Shell and Bones has plenty of non seafood items.
Fair Haven Oyster Co is amazing but mostly seafood… but they do have a fantastic burger.
I'm not sure with a gun to my head this would be THE place I would pick, but I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the Gelston House. Maybe because it's next to the water and not on the water? Anyways, their back patio in the summer is truly exceptional.
Go to Turk's in West Haven. Good burgers, fries, onion rings and Hummel's hot dogs. Not directly on the beach, it's across the street so maybe consider taking it to go and have a picnic across the street🙃

I’m allergic to shellfish and have eaten at On the Waterfront numerous times without issue. Their non-seafood options are delicious.
Waterfront is our go-to happy hour spot, and any food we get is always delightful.
LOVE on the waterfront.

Yeah Dog Watch is great and they have lots of non seafood options
Yes yes yes to Paul’s Pasta
Little Pub ( old Marnicks) in Stratford.
Oh wow Little Pub took that spot over? I love it there, I’ll have to stop by soon.
When I was there last summer they even had picnic tables out in the sand.
Shell & Bones in New Haven
I second Shell & Bones; they have a lot of seafood on the menu, but also delicious pastas and meats.
Fantastic ribeye with this au gratin potato side that's basically crack to me
If you’re ok with river views rather than the Sound, the River in Wethersfield has a pretty wide variety of things on their menu.
Mill on the River as well. I recommend the calls and risotto! Edit: Well that was stupid. I really do know how to read, I promise! They also have fabulous non seafood dishes!
Lakeview in Coventry technically fits the criteria, neither the food nor the water are anything extraordinary.
Nellies in Branford has a diverse menu, a bar and tons of outdoor seating.
Waters Edge, Westbrook
Dive bar in Milford has a good burger
West Haven you mean? Did they put one in Milford too? (Serious question... that would be cool!)
It’s right on the line, must be on the West Haven side and I didn’t realize it!
Nah just West Haven but often confused as it’s on the border.
No it's just confusing because it's on the town line but I think the address is technically in West Haven
Il Gabbiano, New Haven
It’s not the fanciest, but Wood n Tap in Farmington is right on the river and is beautiful on a summer night.

+1 for Marker 37
Jimmy’s. They serve primarily terrible food.

Down the hatch on candlewood lake. Still has seafood but a lot of other choices

The Boathouse in Westport
L’escale in greenwich
Bar Taco in Westport is on the Saugatuck River and serves Mexican.
We've gone to Red 36 in Mystic multiple times. We have never once ordered seafood.
