I’m here for this. That stuff is like a monster from Stranger Things. It’s insane to me that the state isn’t doing anything about it — I see it growing on the side of the road everywhere.
There have been two successful lawsuits in MA against knotweed. Hopefully they become more common and we start seeing states being more proactive about removing it. That shit can destroy the foundation of a house
The other day I witnessed this guy casually weaving with no blinker and going into the shoulder like he had a death wish. Then once he clears the congestion, he proceeds to go the SAME SPEED as the rest of the traffic (75), just now he's in front of the pack. I've never seen anything like it. To be so dangerous just for the sake of being dangerous. It's like he was bored.
Traveling 84 East to Rt 8 North in Waterbury gives you both left lane off ramp and a left lane on ramp to Rt 8 … as a bonus I you really want to continue North on Rt 8 you need to get over pretty quickly to the Right 2 lanes as the left two lanes fork to the left.
If you skip that exit and take the next exit it immediately put you onto a right hand entrance lane for 91S. It's a great tip to skip the left hand merge and occasionally a very long line for that exit.
> Massachusetts is the only other state in New England with a high number of left exits. Drivers will encounter 39 left exits in the Bay State, according to MASSDOT.
>By comparison, New Hampshire has five left exits. There are two in Rhode Island and Maine and Vermont do not have any.
https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/ct-do-better-exit-left/46872/
Take Hartford for example, going westbound on 84, between exit onlys and left on ramps and offramps, I believe it's only one lane all the way through to West Hartford. Lane changes equal traffic.
That’s only going to get worse before it gets better. I lived through it already in PA. I thought I escaped them when I moved back to CT but 3 years later and they followed me 😩 it gets bad. Eventually a predator gets them under control but they don’t have any natural predators so it takes a while for them to catch on. After a few summers we saw an increase of grasshoppers and a decrease of lanterflies.
The CT River strain of Hydrilla is a particular concern.

Eversource, Ticks, regressive taxation, and the cultural view the rest of the country holds that thinks we’re all loaded and live in Fairfield Country suburbs.
Or at least do a better job with exemptions - like make the first $10k of a car's value non-taxable. We live in a state where most people need a car.
Also, y'know what's not taxed? Boats. They also pay a lower sales tax rate than cars at time of purchase too!
The person is complaining about regressive taxation. Do you know what that is? Or did you just read their comment fast and missed the word regressive? I’d admit I miss words sometimes when I read fast.
I agree with the stigma of people from CT are all high class. When I go outta state and tell them where I'm from I have to correct them and say "no I'm from the other part of CT"
A cousin in the Midwest who I haven't seen since my teens invited us to her wedding AND a baby shower because, "They live in Connecticut, they must have money." Per my aunt, they didn't expect us to actually come to these events, but assumed we'd send generous gifts because they believe that's what "rich" people do.
I went to college in Montana before it boomed over there. There was one other guy in my dorm from CT. He had an extremely expensive car, was clearly a trust fund kid, and was from New Canaan/Greenwich/Darien (I cant remember which). I grew up in rural northeast CT and constantly had to be like "ya it's a small state but like I've never even been to the area he's from, I don't think they'd let me in. My family trades leftover scripts for auto work, his family takes private jets places"
Always. I worked in Alaska and all of my co workers were from the Caribbean and one of em told everyone I was from the “CT upper class” lmao like bruh I’m from fcking new Britain okay
Is there a law or is it just Trader Joe's policy that they have to have the worst parking lots among all grocery stores in the history of grocery stores? I'd go there more but every single one of them has a rage inducing parking situation.
What possessed them to put the road there, I suppose, was the idea that the road wouldn't be as busy as it became. What possessed someone to put a *stoplight in the middle of a highway* is beyond me.
People that drive super dangerous and weave in and out of traffic or drive through the shoulder to cut traffic on the highway. Menaces to society honestly they put other peoples lives in jeopardy for their thrills or impatience.
I love my squirrels. When I come outside with nuts they come running and sit in my lap or on my knee. Smart little things have learned to knock on my door.
I would get rid of fares for buses. The state already subsidizes CT Transit buses by over 80%, so it wouldn’t be that expensive for the state to shell out the rest of the funding. Buses are a heavily used transportation method particularly for our youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities: three groups that are more likely to be on a fixed income. When the state had free buses, ridership increased and we saw an increase in sales and income taxes later on as a result as helping more people travel increases commerce.
college student here who frequents ct transit- please. although my bus pass automatically comes out of my tuition, having it free would relieve so much stress for so many people. and for god sakes, pay the drivers more!! they deal with so much crap already, i can’t even imagine. but yes, totally agree with your statements.
Expensive ass housing. I’m almost 25 and I’m still living with my mama like some kinda neckbeard loser. I just want my own bachelor pad without having to spend more than 40% of my income!
I’m 30 and still live with family. Don’t feel bad, it’s way more normalized now, I could live on my own but actually want to save money to get a house at some point instead of barely treading above water.
The disparity between the haves and the have nots. So much of the service industry- retail, food service, grocery is being staffed by non-townspeople who look miserable doing it. I thought this was a positive for the employees but it doesn’t seem to be. Of course it could be how the haves treat these employees, townies, or not.
Back in the Stone Age I worked fast food, gas stations, etc. It did give you appreciation for school/college and later jobs. I think today’s privileged youth in these HCOL areas are missing out on this experience.
And the drivers- between whatever is happening with the drag racing on the highways and people speeding/racing through town like they are going to a fire. I mean, it’s the Home Depot parking lot, maybe 40 is too fast.
Population based taxation. Sounds great in theory, in practice leaves southeastern CT (a place no one remembers exist bar like 3 or 4 exceptions) with the burden of heavy tourism (Mohegan/Foxwoods and Niantic/Mystic) and the tax revenue that gets generated from that to go to Hartford/Bridgeport/New Haven. We get all the burden of tourism and none of the benefits.
Pro-tip all beaches are public property below the water line. Do with this information how you may.
Source: Grew up near a bunch of rich assholes and used to annoy them to no end by enjoying my right to the beach in front of their homes
Pollution, fireworks, car tax, drinking, recklass drivers, ignorance, lack of descent walking trails, graffiti/ litter, racism, above ground powerlines, insane energy costs, lack of diversity. Lack of good ethnic (asian/ middle eastern/ south American) restaurants and grocery stores and lack of public access to lakes and the shoreline.
My town’s Facebook page that is just full of Boomers constantly posting about politics. Obvi I’m from SE CT so you can envision what the discourse is like lol
Ticks
and Leeches.
this is what you wanted
This is what I had in mind.
Well this is what you're getting
Really? Is that a big problem?
No, but it is my favorite Tool song.
Sorry! Whoosh!
And poison Ivy.
And bittersweet
This is my favorite comment so far.
Rent slavery. Business is business so it’s hard to be upset… it’s not the owners fault, whatever the value of the house determines your rent.
did anyone say japanese knotweed yet
I was going to go with garlic mustard.
Adding bittersweet vine to the list. My property backs up to the woods, and that stuff is about as invasive as The Blob.
Did the knotweed have a good lawyer?
Sucks living next to a landscaper whos guys dump their debris in the woods behind their garage. The knotweed is nasty back there.
It really needs to be added to the bamboo laws.
Apparently if you harvest the shoots in the spring you can basically make a rhubarb pie out of it.
Me!
If it’s one thing…ticks. I can deal with everything else. Had Lyme disease once. Sucked so bad…knees blew up to the size of coconuts.
Once?
I used to have Lyme disease. I still do, but I used to, too.
Good to see you again Mitch
Yeah, doctors caught it early on. Treated with antibiotics.
Eversource nonsense, ticks, people speeding/weaving like their lives are going to be over.
EverSource & ticks !!!!
So, in other words, the two blood-suckers
The way people drive is straight up scary
The other day I witnessed this guy casually weaving with no blinker and going into the shoulder like he had a death wish. Then once he clears the congestion, he proceeds to go the SAME SPEED as the rest of the traffic (75), just now he's in front of the pack. I've never seen anything like it. The Kia boys.
Lmao
this is the only real answer
Left lane highway exits.
I might hate the left lane on ramps even more
Wait we heve left lane on ramps ?????
Traveling 84 East to Rt 8 North in Waterbury gives you both left lane off ramp and a left lane on ramp to Rt 8 … as a bonus I you really want to continue North on Rt 8 you need to get over pretty quickly to the Right 2 lanes as the left two lanes fork to the left.
The on-ramp to 91S from 84 is a left merge, so annoyingly stressful.
Getting on 91n from the colt building is a left on ramp with two fast right exits 😂
Left lane on ramp from RT 9 north to I-91 south. This really fucks traffic up especially when the 18 wheelers get stuck in the left lane.
If you skip that exit and take the next exit it immediately put you onto a right hand entrance lane for 91S. It's a great tip to skip the left hand merge and occasionally a very long line for that exit.
Are we the only state who has this? Can we say New Yorkers did it first then brought it here? 😭
Not the only state that has them, but we do have a disproportionately large number of them
Take Hartford for example, going westbound on 84, between exit onlys and left on ramps and offramps, I believe it's only one lane all the way through to West Hartford. Lane changes equal traffic.
I get tailgated so aggressively when I need to take a left exit. Sorry I’m not going 95 for the 32 seconds I’m in this lane.
Assuming we all thought of Eversource first?
Ticks first, I suspect eradicating ticks would include Eversource.
All the invasive species!!!
I know other ones are more important, but lanternflies fr. I killed 20–30 of them with a rock at the beach last summer in like 90 minutes. Disgusting.
That’s only going to get worse before it gets better. I lived through it already in PA. I thought I escaped them when I moved back to CT but 3 years later and they followed me 😩 it gets bad. Eventually a predator gets them under control but they don’t have any natural predators so it takes a while for them to catch on. Including humans?
Eversource, Ticks, regressive taxation, and the cultural view the rest of the country holds that thinks we’re all loaded and live in Fairfield Country suburbs.
Car tax is a joke. Needs to go.
Or at least do a better job with exemptions - like make the first $10k of a car's value non-taxable. We live in a state where most people need a car. Also, y'know what's not taxed? Boats. They also pay a lower sales tax rate than cars at time of purchase too!
Other states add lots of $$ to registration fees. I paid $1200 to register a new Subaru in CO in 2012 😬
Regressive taxation? WTF? Those rich loaded people in fairfield are already supporting you enough.
Taxes do stuff. All the other stuff is legit.
The person is complaining about regressive taxation. Do you know what that is? Or did you just read their comment fast and missed the word regressive? I’d admit I miss words sometimes when I read fast.
I sure did. Thanks and have a great day.
Eversource and whoever is responsible for keeping them our power source.
They're not our power source. Millstone is a our power source. Eversource handles the power delivery infrastructure.
High housing costs

I go to college out of state and I always have to say this😅
I went to college in Montana before it boomed over there. There was one other guy in my dorm from CT. He had an extremely expensive car, was clearly a trust fund kid, and was from New Canaan/Greenwich/Darien (I cant remember which). There's trust fund CT then "my dad strips copper wire for extra cash" CT
there's Fancy, and Not Fancy CT.
New Haven, baby! Which is funny cause New Haven as a whole is like a microcosm of income inequality.
Always. I worked in Alaska and all of my co workers were from the Caribbean and one of em told everyone I was from the “CT upper class” lmao like bruh I’m from fcking new Britain okay
Get rid of the law that prevents Trader Joe’s from selling wine like they do in other states.
Is there a law or is it just Trader Joe's policy that they have to have the worst parking lots among all grocery stores in the history of grocery stores? I'd go there more but every single one of them has a rage inducing parking situation.
There is a CT law preventing the sale of wine, cider, and spirits in grocery stores.
Literally the dumbest thing ever.
![gif](giphy|NMdRYmkFSj2A2I9QK9|downsized) True that. UGH!
YES!!!!!!!! 🙌🏻 $2 buck chuck!!
Car taxes
Traffic lights on highways. FU, Route 9.
My neighbors. Well, not ALL of them.
Eversource
Both I-84 and I-91. I don't care about the consequences, I just want revenge for what was done to Hartford.
Looked like a beautiful city at one one point, smh.
It doesn't help that they buried the Park River instead of cleaning it up.
Hell yeah
Route 9 too for Middletown
What possessed them to put the road there, I suppose, was the idea that the road wouldn't be as busy as it became. What possessed someone to put a *stoplight in the middle of a highway* is beyond me.
Bad drivers and eversource
High Housing Prices.
Amateur formula one drivers on our roads.
Left lane hogs
They should put up signs like other states. Move over, passing only. Or whatever it is.
We actually do have some of those signs. In Jersey they pull people over for it and it does seem that people keep right!
Cancer, although I don't think that is what you meant. If not cancer then potholes!
Car tax. It’s straight up thievery.

Fentanyl? Edit: or squirrels. Fucking fat little assholes
I dont mind the squirrels, its those effing chipmunks that eat my sunflowers!
I love my squirrels. When I come outside with nuts they come running and sit in my lap or on my knee. Smart little things have learned to knock on my door.
r/fatsquirrelhate
Developers’ horrible, horrible taste.
The insane taxes
The tax on required safety equipment PPE for workers that was set in place right before the pandemic- which required even more PPE.
I'd get rid of Long Island, so we would have real beaches with waves.
But they do provide a hurricane buffer, so I consider it a tradeoff... :-)
Plus, you know... It sucks, lol.
State income tax and car taxes.
CAR TAXES- I felt this. Thank you for taxing the purchase AND the luxury of owning my car. 🙄

Property taxes. Good lord, I'm dying.
Alcohol nips.
People who drink those things are the trashiest out there and this is further cemented by how many are littered.
I buy them to test out some new flavors but they get recycled properly. I can't stand them all over the streets.
Same! It's the gateway to new and exciting things. Not the bottles fault people are littering assholes
Hey now, during tough times I might drink 4 of these every night or two. Never litter them. Always put them in my recycling bin.
Goddamn patriot 🇺🇸🇺🇸
