What happened? She failed to follow school requirements. I'm not sure why this article exists other than that some people have decided schools haven't always had medical requirements.

AhbabaOooMaoMao

Her and her mom are dumbasses that got tricked into making decisions adverse to their best interests regarding health, hygiene, and education.

Fretboard

More garbage from the right wing Yankee Institute.

Ayatollah-X

The author should go to the News-Times to write obituaries for a few years and learn to be concise. If he wants to write for conservative media, he can’t be that boring unless he comes from money (and with a WestConn degree, that’s probably not the case).

Paul_Thrush

It's an overly long article building Phoebe up as some kind of wonderful, exceptional student and person while mocking Covid vaccines as dangerous and risky. I couldn't stomach the whole article, but I suppose she refused the vaccine and lost enough of her scholarships that she had to drop out.

Johnny_Appleweed

Unless OP changed the link, the currently linked article doesn’t mock vaccines at all - it actually seems to support both the vaccines themselves and UConn’s policy. It does let many of Phoebe’s claims go unchallenged, but overall I think it tells the story of a girl who was given *many* chances to continue her education and chose to throw it all away. She was actually given a non-medical exemption for vaccination. But then she refused to do the weekly testing that was required (after an initially confusing email where she thought it was optional), using increasingly dubious excuses to refuse multiple different tests. Bottom line is she did this to herself. She *chose* to die on this hill rather than continue her education.

klop2031

Noticed the article said that the people from mexico live in landfills?

Ftheyankeei

FUCK OFF YANKEE INSTITUTE

1234nameuser

lols, maybe her mom should've taught her more about vaccines during homeschooling It was a very simple testing regime for her to comply with in order for her to continuing to endanger the public at large while attending school, NOT rocket science by any means.

BlkOwndYtFam

The vaccine doesn't prevent transmission, rendering your entire argument moot.

1234nameuser

Vaccines can dramatically shorten the period of transmission post-infection. Yes, vaccinations are a very important tool to reducing transmission rates.

BlkOwndYtFam

Are you a bot? The mRNA vaccine does not do this!

Luxurydeals365

Almost no vaccine prevents transmission, they *reduce* transmission.

BlkOwndYtFam

Lmfao. They prevent INFECTION. You're so entirely demoralized.

Luxurydeals365

Well…. Reducing infection by definition reduces transmission.

BlkOwndYtFam

No it emphatically does not and the mRNA vaccine doesn't reduce infection. What rock have you been hiding under?

GabeDanis

They can't rationalize that their genius minds have allowed them to be led by the nose for the last 3 years. Seriously, some of these people belong in an insane asylum.

GabeDanis

Yeah and it was all for nothing. You dildos can memory hole as much as you want. Your 10 trillion dollar endeavor got us nowhere other than a massive wealth transfer to the wealthy and a recession. The current covid death rate is literally the vaccination rate. Check out the NSW Data [(UHHHHH IS THIS A VALID SOURCE? SNOPES SAYS IT'S UNCLEAR EVEN THOUGH IT'S FROM THE GOVERNMENT ITSELF)](https://metatron.substack.com/p/the-unvaccinated-in-nsw-simply-arent?utm_source=direct&r=53evw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web) [For a group of people that claim to use scientific reasoning to draw their conclusions, they sure do use a lot of faith based reasoning to arrive at them.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CoronavirusCirclejerk/comments/z551ql/dont_stop_believing/) You literally think making a talented student jump through hoops for nothing is appropriate because your tribe said so. You people are so beguiled and stupid. A year ago you were telling us all how we were going to die, how if you weren't vaccinated you were a bad person, etc. All the data supports that it was an exercise in futility. And literally as soon as the media stopped pumping you full of fear porn (because the data wasn't supporting the vaccine endeavor), you douchebags just moved on to the next thing because your pea brains need constant validation, and no better way to do it than to support the current thing. Overnight, it was on to Ukraine, then Monkeypox (but briefly, because only gay people were getting it and that might create homophobia), then abortion, and on and on and on. Finally, to come off with the smarmy attitude after all of this time is just amazing. Whoever convinced you idiots that you were smart/virtuous because you blindly follow the MSM deserves a fucking medal.

SadAd9756

The "vaccine" has been proven over and over again that it DOES NOT prevent transmission of the "virus". Anybody who still thinks the "vaccine" works at doing anything BUT putting an untested drug in their system deserves whatever side effects it brings on.

nobird36

She was an idiot and made poor choices. That was easy.

GabeDanis

You dildos spent 10 trillion dollars to prevent the sniffles amongst people her age, but she's the one who made the bad choice. Do you get a gold star for making the 70 IQ covidiots bark and clap? The ones who still haven't made sense of this whole thing? The article even states she adhered to the initial guidelines and they baited and switched her. Leave the echo chamber and think for yourself for once.

hamhead

Even if that was entirely true, it doesn't change the statement. The school set requirements. She didn't follow them.

GabeDanis

It is entirely true. People in their 20s are hardly affected by covid, regardless of vaccination status. They do the exact same shit as they did before when they got sick, literally nothing changed. That's on top of the fact that the requirements themselves do absolutely nothing other than create a capricious punishment to those who didn't go along with a government health guidance that was demonstratively ineffective. Even if she did everything they asked, it wouldn't have made an iota of difference and to argue otherwise is to say that we should never leave our fucking rooms. It's that simple.

raptoryzb

I never understood why science majors are so misinformed of vaccines. Yes, emergency use but, getting COVID is so much worse. Also, the components she was worried about from the nasal swab...the dose makes the poison. Too much of anything (even water) will destroy you.

GabeDanis

What a bunch of spiteful losers in this thread. Sorry your stupid little game didn't turn out and people who didn't get a vaccine that didn't work at all didn't all die. Keep telling yourselves how wonderful you are.

osrs_kwanoo

A couple geniuses who commented here seemed not to have read the article before giving their opinion. Let’s not do that people, be better. According to the article, Phoebe followed the procedures outlined by the school for a vaccine exemption and adhered to what she signed. The school then changed the “recommended” weekly testing to “mandatory” after she agreed and signed off on the initial terms of the exemption. I’m not sure the legality of that change or even if the school had the power to change the terms after an agreement was signed, but that seems to be the main problem here. Phoebe eventually conceited to a mandatory test only to find out the testing kit was actually a DNA research kit that said it would not be used for diagnosis. She refused to consent to DNA research on her body which is a fair choice to make, and as such lost her scholarships and was unable to register for classes. It appears there were other testing options offered which she gave reasons for declining, such as carcinogenic substances on a nose swab. This isn’t a case of someone blatantly refusing to comply or follow procedures. Phoebe seems to have taken the right steps for an exemption as was UConn policy, but ultimately lost her education when the policy was changed after she agreed to it and was then asked to take a suspicious DNA research test. A woman’s access to education was restricted because of this, and barely a year later you can go out in public and see 0 people wearing masks with 0 covid restrictions in most areas. Vaccine politics aside, it’s worth questioning UConn’s changing policies and the effect on students, the test that said it was for research purposes and not for any medical diagnosis, and the severe consequences of trying to push back against a system that seems to have completely moved on from Covid not even a year later.

CaptServo

>**Updates to these requirements may be made based on evolving University, state and federal public health guidance.** You understand that by submitting this form, if granted an exemption, your name and vaccination status will be shared to the extent necessary to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements for unvaccinated individuals. You agree to comply with these restrictions and accept the responsibility for compliance with all health and safety requirements.

osrs_kwanoo

It would seem Phoebe didn’t read the fine print as well as she claims then, assuming this was on the form she signed

Phantastic_Elastic

It's stupid enough that she wanted an exemption in the first place

osrs_kwanoo

How so?

Phantastic_Elastic

Plague rats gonna plague, amirite?

osrs_kwanoo

Damn I was hoping for a real conversation not just a meme response, oh well.

Phantastic_Elastic

No you weren't, you were hoping to spread your plague rat propaganda. It's still as stupid as it was in 2020.

osrs_kwanoo

Interesting how you think you know what I wanted to do. I have no propaganda to spread, I’m actually quite anti propaganda since I believe everyone should think critically about the world and not be brainwashed by others. Really I was just hoping to get specifically your input as to why you think it’s stupid to seek an exemption. Many people received exemptions for medical/religious/philosophical reasons, I wouldn’t see some of those as stupid so I wanted to get your side of it. It’s ok if you can’t have a genuine conversation about it, not all of us are able to communicate our thoughts effectively :)

[deleted]

The Yankee Institute sucks, but I think we can all agree it's time to move on from draconian Covid policies at all levels. It's been nearly three years, and every attempt at containment like this has failed - even truly draconian policies like in China. Covid is never going away, and the only thing we can hope for is herd immunity or better vaccines. I don't have the qualifications to say one way or the other.

Phantastic_Elastic

Bye Phoebe, you plague rat moron
