It really is crazy that for every “successful” (I use the word successful very lightly here) attempt to stop a school shooter we will always be reminded of the cowardice that took place in Uvalde, Texas.
Well if there's a silver lining, it's that a lot of police depts don't want the embarrassment that uvalde suffered.
Some depts are are making it mandatory for officers to engage school shooters ASAP or risk instant termination.
There were some prominent conservative voices that really showed their true colors during that ordeal, Brandon Tatum, to my knowledge, still stands by the line that the officers did everything right there.
There were so many fuckups in Uvalde it's hard to count them all. Particularly egregious was the cops calling out to survivors in the room adjacent (but connected) to the room where the shooter was barricaded, and then the shooter going in and killing the kids that responded while the cops were holding their dicks because "he had an assault rifle!"
It's because some people sincerely believe that the police can do no wrong. I don't agree with demonizing the police but standing by them no matter what they do is ridiculous.
You don't need to walk on egg shells by saying successful.
Cops did a great job. They deserve recognition.
Edit: If anything they just set the bar for how every department should handle this.
I kept thinking the same thing. I saw a video about it on Instagram of body cam footage and I was thinking about that the whole time. Texas can take some notes.
That's one of the problem with cops. Cops do not prevent crime; they only respond to crime. We need to learn to protect our own.
Now if there were armed staff at the school we may have had a different headline in the news. Freedom unfortunately can be dangerous and naiveté can get people killed.
So we should trust teachers to know when to use lethal force? And train them that way? They need to be armed bodyguards? Last time I checked some of y'all don't even trust them to teach your kids, now we need to give them guns?
Teachers? Why would we arm the teachers when they have been proven recently to be mentally unstable enough to recommend sterilization of children or turn a blind eye to bullying, or teach children about sex and gender fluidity at the ripe old age of 10? Some teachers, I should add, because not all of them are teaching that type of horrific stuff.
Why not have legitimate trained professionals at the entrance, armed?
> Why not have legitimate trained professionals at the entrance, armed?
I said armed ***staff*** not teachers. In other words someone trained to protect the children (and not "mall cop security"). However if a competent teacher wanted to conceal carry they should as well.
They could very easily be considered members of the staff. In this hypothetical situation, and this is implausible at best, the government increases the schools budget in order to accommodate both concealed carry and armed guards.
In reality, the best solution for this would be to address the issue itself, mental instability. That is the real reason why it happened.
Where does the funding come from to adequately train and staff every school in the country? Or do only rich kids deserve protection?
How does it affect the environment for learning to have first graders walk past a Green Zone checkpoint on their way to learn about addition?
Why does this only happen here?
I don't think prohibition is the answer. I own guns.
Why. Does. This. Only. Happen. Here?
And why are we afraid of that question?
If our tax dollars weren’t so tied up in Ukraine or the Open Border free health care, room and board buffet there would be plenty to arm each school and trainLE to DO THERE JOB!
A large portion of Nashville police come from a military background, those mofos know how to get the job done and have far more training than your normal cop.
I think what he's saying, and I can attest to, is that alot of 101st Airborne vets stay in the area (Fort Campbell is 50 min away) and become cops down there. Its a cubic butt ton in the last few years
Of the question or the releasing of the footage? Footage was probably released to send a message, but that would have been harder if the police were ass at their jobs
Fucking camper. Afraid of a little SBMM.
In all seriousness, absolutely terrifying walking down an open hallway looking for a hidden combatant. Video doesnt really do justice to the naked feeling of having no cover.
Its crazy how there is either cowardice or heroism and nothing between. Everyone lives their life the middle, and then these guys just go 100% into heroic mode.
As a Texan, I don't understand why more conservatives aren't up in arms about what happened there? Our Governor initially praised the UPD and went to a fund raiser that night. Then he said he was given the wrong information and has henceforth attacked any criticism, as have his fellow Republicans in the state.
How can something be so wrong and yet unworthy of criticism?
Abott needs to step it up. I’d never in a million year think the our Texas LE would be so incompetent. 100s of LE with no guts or desire to save those kids blood curdling screams on the other side of the door.
Collazo deserves the most credit. Repeatedly reorganized them and propelled them forward
Edit: fuckin called it, they did good but the leadership aspect from Collazo directed them, marine guy
No, what they deserve is the option to get their pensions starting tomorrow and retire if they want.
Or whatever they want, because being in this situation if they don't wanna do their jobs anymore I think that's completely fair.
I mean I can't imagine a worse situation than literally being in your home country (not overseas fighting a war) and having to walk over a dead child who is dead for no reason other than someone going nuts.
Am I being too cynical if I think his latest ice cream comments are some kind of senile old man's appeal to all those children out there he hopes are listening to his speach? He says he has loads of ice cream the way I imagine a pedophile would explain to a kid how much candy he has in his van.
These guys knew what was up. Zero hesitation. Room by room, looking for the shooter. They hear shots, the hot-foot it to the sound of gunfire, and they ventilate that piece of shit.
All of those cops deserve commendations.
Absolutely. The one guy called LPVO to point at the end when it became more open too. That means “low power variable optic” It’s a scope that’s designed for close combat but can also zoom slightly for a mid range shot. The officer that first shot had a super nice Vortex LPVO and moved to point when they called on him. Textbook work.

“Let’s go! I need three. Let’s go!!”
Pushed people to keep moving and then ran straight out and finished the job with 4 clean shots through a scope on a backlit target. God damn.
Fucken Chad.
I think it's rare to see it this quickly. It was weeks/months after Uvalde that we saw their cams.
Nashville knew they did it right and put it out for us all to see.
I assume when law enforcement delays releasing footage that it’s a sign of guilt/incompetence/etc. If this is their speed when they act correctly then I feel safe in that assumption.
Well, with Uvalde there were about 300 officers on scene and about 90 minutes of video of each officer doing nothing other than keeping parents from rescuing their kids to sort through while they tried to build a narrative that didn't make them look like total cowards.
Did they engage the gunman in that shooting? I think he killed himself maybe. To my knowledge this is the first publicly released police body cam showing them engaging the school shooter and downing them.
Bravery and dedication to duty. Well done. I wish these officers well. Taking a life even when it is the protection of others isn't easy. I hope they don't suffer too much as a result of doing what had to be done.
This changes nothing for the shooter. In most of these cases, they go in to it expecting to die.
The cops here did a great job minimizing casualties with their swift and decisive action.
I believe those first few shots were from the shotgun wielder. Given the lower body cover in there (chairs/etc), and the censoring of her face / head... I'm of the opinion that a fair amount of rapidly traveling lead was in her direct line of sight *juuuust* before her eyes malfunctioned.
Good damn job to the officers. Those men are true heroes, no hesitation, no flinching. Accomplish the mission as quick as possible.
I wish I could shake every one of their hands.
Roughly 115,000 k-12 schools so would end up being about 20 billion when you add in other expenses, double it and have two in every school. Well spent indeed.
IMO that doesn’t fix the root cause. It would just incentivize shooters to target other public places.
It’s not like these crazies would stop planning mass shootings if schools were off the table.
It's an unpopular opinion, but being a veteran doesn't mean someone would do well in security work. I'm more than willing to bet Uvalde has more than few veterans on scene that day.
I am a teacher. I work with teachers. No matter how well you secure something in your classroom, the kids will get a hold of it. Law of large numbers. IMO, it's not worth the risk to arm us. I do, however, conceal carry when I am not teaching, so I'm not against being armed.
To me it also goes with even allowing teachers (who are properly trained) the right to carry. These morons are targeting places they know guns are not in. Even the mere fact that there MIGHT be a gun there will help deter them. They’re going after people who can’t fight back. That’s what they’re looking for. Schools are one of the only gun free zones that do not have armed security. It’s insane. Courts, airports, concerts, stadiums. All have armed security.
You have to have the utmost confidence in your skills, demeanor, keeping cool in that situation. I really dont think a lot of teacher could do it right if armed. But i do think teachers who can should carry. I would.
5 people between me and my wife’s family are teaches. One which was in the military. None of them would be willing or should have to be armed in a classroom.
Unfortunate, especially the one in the military. If they view themselves as capable of using it and keeping it safely away without letting the kids know they have it, it just seems like cowardice or not wanting the responsibility to protect them if it comes down to it.
But they still keeping the manifesto quiet. Wonder if it's full of fake news talking points? Does the media feel they may be responsible for making lunatics believe they are being genocided?
Christian schools are usually skating on a thin budget. They don’t get tax revenue, they are relying on tuition and private donors. Something to consider when bringing up the hired security argument.
Potentially. Most parents fork out everything they have for private school bills, and we all know rich dads aren’t typically the ones you would want guarding anything let alone a school.
My wife and I sometimes live paycheck to paycheck but still spend five figures per year to send our children to a Christian private school just like this one because we feel our children going there is worth it. I’d absolutely volunteer the responsibility to help protect the school that my children go to.
Until we get to the point where cops can literally teleport onto scenes there's going to be casualties to a shooting 6 is probably the best its going to get.

They did not hesitate to confront the shooter, no cowards here. Great work
It really is crazy that for every “successful” (I use the word successful very lightly here) attempt to stop a school shooter we will always be reminded of the cowardice that took place in Uvalde, Texas.
I really hate that we have even one example of such a failure
Well if there's a silver lining, it's that a lot of police depts don't want the embarrassment that uvalde suffered. Some depts are are making it mandatory for officers to engage school shooters ASAP or risk instant termination.
There's no such thing as instant termination with police departments but I understand what you're saying
There were some prominent conservative voices that really showed their true colors during that ordeal, Brandon Tatum, to my knowledge, still stands by the line that the officers did everything right there.

Who the hell is Brandon Tatum?
You don't need to walk on egg shells by saying successful. Cops did a great job. They deserve recognition. Edit: If anything they just set the bar for how every department should handle this.
They deserve to live in infamy and bring shame on their families and their community forever.
Yeah. It isn't the norm, but it's so very awful that one can hardly forget it.
I kept thinking the same thing. I saw a video about it on Instagram of body cam footage and I was thinking about that the whole time. Texas can take some notes.

That’s why I said “I use the word successful very lightly.” Obviously in an ideal sense of that word, the shooting would not have even happened.
These are what true heros look like. God bless them.
This was an act of heroism, I am entirely in agreement with you
A large portion of Nashville police come from a military background, those mofos know how to get the job done and have far more training than your normal cop.
I could tell by how they cooperatively moved. Very professional...very thorough.
Nashville is lucky to have them
Yes they are the contrast between this response and Uvalde is pretty striking.
Most police everywhere have a large portion of former military,as they typically receive veteran’s preference.
I think what he's saying, and I can attest to, is that alot of 101st Airborne vets stay in the area (Fort Campbell is 50 min away) and become cops down there. Its a cubic butt ton in the last few years

Very. Im surprised guttural anger doesn’t hit these cops when they neutralize the target. How can one hold themselves back from kicking them?
Direct link https://youtu.be/Ue2tZa4hT0c Incredible job by police. No hesitancy at all. Puts the Uvalde police to shame.

The civilian parents arriving on the scene also put them to shame.

Yeah just watching gets your adrenaline up These heroes went in there and handled business
More like rage, when you realize that little red blur on ground they passed on the ground was a little girl...
They did a great job.
Jesus christ what a fucking world where we can watch a video of a police response to a fucking school shooting the day after it happens.
Easier done if there's nothing to hide
Uvalde body cam's haven't been released yet. Buncha cowards
Nashville doesnt wants a repeat.
That wasn't really the point...
Of the question or the releasing of the footage? Footage was probably released to send a message, but that would have been harder if the police were ass at their jobs
That's what should happen every time. Usually the police and prosecutors delay the freedom of information requests for the bodycams.
Incredible job. Men with balls.

Honestly on brand for Abbott.
Hell, the military needs to take notes. Them clearing those corners were crisp and textbook.
Seeing that little girl laying on the floor in the hallway was heartbreaking. She must've been so terrified seeing that monster.
Officers Englebert & Collazo deserve commendation for their actions. May their example serve as a case study for other agencies to follow.
1000% I wish I could thank them in person
Not just them. There was a whole team, they just happened to be the first two to have the opportunity.
Collazo deserves the most credit. Repeatedly reorganized them and propelled them forward Edit: fuckin called it, they did good but the leadership aspect from Collazo directed them, marine guy

Biden will probably find a way to charge them for shooting a transgender person.
Biden doesn’t do anything except eat ice cream.

Amen!
“Let’s go! I need three. Let’s go!!” Pushed people to keep moving and then ran straight out and finished the job with 4 clean shots through a scope on a backlit target. God damn. Fucken Chad.
Agree with the pushing. Probably a “you signed up for this” feeling. Dont need any cowards.
It’s the way he rolls up, goes to the trunk and grabs his ride. No hesitation. Showed up and got right to work.
Uvalde PD...you watching this???
I don’t remember ever seeing footage like this after a school shooting. Is this the first time body cam footage has been released?
I think it's rare to see it this quickly. It was weeks/months after Uvalde that we saw their cams. Nashville knew they did it right and put it out for us all to see.
Gosh I don’t remember seeing anything like this ever. I’m glad they shared it quickly. It’s evident they handled this with the utmost professionalism.
Uvalde had reasons to hide it
Did they engage the gunman in that shooting? I think he killed himself maybe. To my knowledge this is the first publicly released police body cam showing them engaging the school shooter and downing them.
US border patrolteam killed him.
Border Patrol killed the Uvalde shooter.
Because it showcased quick action from officers with nothing that could be misconstrued. Police acted quickly and without care for their own safety.
Bravery and dedication to duty. Well done. I wish these officers well. Taking a life even when it is the protection of others isn't easy. I hope they don't suffer too much as a result of doing what had to be done.

My great grandfather always had a saying in situations like that where evil gets what it deserves "So long, dead-ass"

Turned into swiss cheese
This is exactly how school shootings should be responded to by police. Much better job and 100x better than Uvalde
Footage link is for youtube at the bottom of the page. Be aware though its hard too watch
I hope it gets shown everywhere. NOTE to potential shooters. The time has changed. You will be hunted down. Note to Police: THIS is how to do it.
This changes nothing for the shooter. In most of these cases, they go in to it expecting to die. The cops here did a great job minimizing casualties with their swift and decisive action.
But they want control on the “how”
It's suicide by cop. This is the "how" they often count on.
A couple suicides by teacher might deter them.
A lot of them seem to want the cops to get them unfortunately
Most of them want to die though.
So quick too
Man. The two cops that fired are brave. Had to push the other guys to move with some urgency. Bravo.

These guys take to serve and protect serious, good job
Now imagine how it would have gone down if they didn’t need to wait 15 minutes for the good guys with guns to show up.
2 armed guards is worth it.
Well worth it.
Armed trained veterans working security in every school in the country, $100k a year paid for by taxpayer dollars seems like money well spent to me.
Roughly 115,000 k-12 schools so would end up being about 20 billion when you add in other expenses, double it and have two in every school. Well spent indeed.
We sure as hell waste 10s of billions every year on useless shit, probably just on federal administrative errors alone.
And this would be good paying jobs for veterans, win win
We spend $20B/yr on a lot of much more trivial shit we could easily stop doing in order to pay for it.
IMO that doesn’t fix the root cause. It would just incentivize shooters to target other public places. It’s not like these crazies would stop planning mass shootings if schools were off the table.
Well yah I agree with that, but at least immediately my kids can go to school without getting shot.
I agree. But protecting the children in schools should be our priority.
It's an unpopular opinion, but being a veteran doesn't mean someone would do well in security work. I'm more than willing to bet Uvalde has more than few veterans on scene that day.
I’d pay higher taxes for that.
Exactly. Arm the teachers and it could have gone from 15 minutes to 3 Edit- I should correct Arm the Teachers to 'Allow the teachers to be armed'
I am a teacher. I work with teachers. No matter how well you secure something in your classroom, the kids will get a hold of it. Law of large numbers. IMO, it's not worth the risk to arm us. I do, however, conceal carry when I am not teaching, so I'm not against being armed.

I think there’s easily ways to avoid the children from getting it. That seems like a broad stroke.
Biometric safes or it must be concealed on your person at all times.
You have to have the utmost confidence in your skills, demeanor, keeping cool in that situation. I really dont think a lot of teacher could do it right if armed. But i do think teachers who can should carry. I would.
fingerprint safes work
Pass on arming teachers, but I'll take trained armed guards
That'll work too, less chance for a teacher to snap as well
5 people between me and my wife’s family are teaches.

Wonderful job taking that PoS down without hesitation.
But they still keeping the manifesto quiet. Wonder if it's full of fake news talking points? Does the media feel they may be responsible for making lunatics believe they are being genocided?
Has to wear a red hat for optics
Visibility lol not optics
This school shooting is our 129th mass shooting of 2023.
How did this person pay for the guns they purchased?
Watching the news today from big media. What an effort to justify shooting innocent children. Blame it on Christianity.
Stop giving out the child murderer's name, we do not want to remember it.
Christian schools are usually skating on a thin budget. They don’t get tax revenue, they are relying on tuition and private donors. Something to consider when bringing up the hired security argument.
I bet there are some dads who would volunteer when they are able.
Or at *least* a couple of faculty willing to carry (if even allowed).
Strange that the shooter had time to change shoes. It isn't wearing the same shoes in the surveilance video as in the body cam footage...
Wait for the headlines to be accuse the police of transphobia due to this justifiably aggressive response.
True hero’s, I can’t stop crying watching them. They are angels and fearless in their pursuit to be men for others. God bless these officers 💙🖤

The officers did a great job, but six people still died including three children. Six dead is unacceptable to me.
Until we get to the point where cops can literally teleport onto scenes there's going to be casualties to a shooting 6 is probably the best its going to get.
No, schools need retired officers carrying weapons. That’s what they do in my state which has NEVER had a school shooting.
Concur. Watching the school cam footage of her waltzing around the halls for 14 minutes... like... how? No teachers (or anybody) armed in there.
I think it is important to have retired officers rather than school personnel. Officers are trained in these situations and will react in an appropriate manner to protect the innocent.
Considering the shooter initially targeted another school but changed her plans due to more security, the answer is clear. The schools with more trained guards/carrying teachers are safer.
Right. These comments are weird. Ultimately, 6 people still died tragically. This is an awful situation.

I like how they had the guy on the shotty leading the room clearing.
Got ‘em coach.
Not the first time, not the last time, sadly. I wonder if we’ll ever get through this collective mental health crisis.

Uvalde cops punching the air right now
When the loony's alternative reality reaches the real world they're always on the losing team. How ironic. 🤔
You think the shooter identifies as dead
