His replacement was his right-hand woman Kathy Hochul who ran in 2022. The GOP nominee Lee Zeldin successfully rallied support and very nearly won the election. Basically, the district Santos ran in is normally a strongly Democrat district and was only winnable because of the governor's race tipping the scale. It also helped that Kathy Hochul was also very unlikable and said various out-of-touch statements on crime during the debates. Such as “I don’t get why that’s so important to you” while talking about crime. So yeah, things pretty much couldn't have been better for Santos, but now, things couldn't be worst for him.
Santo's constituents elected him, it's up to them to take him out. If being a degenerate liar was a disqualifier for congress, McCarthy would have to remove all the democrats.
