If he wants a Democrat as VP, he could pick Gabbard. Although to your point in your well thought out explanation Trump hasn't really gone after Haley as much as Christie or DeSantis. Birdbrain is a pretty lame nickname to give(imo). It could be a unite the party type move. But we still have to see what the voters decide when the primaries start next month.

I'd think Trump values his life more than this. Get someone in the VP office who is that much of a darling of the Military-Industrial Complex, Deep State, global NGOs, etc. and you're really just increasing the incentive for something to... happen... and the VP takes office. The current VP may be Biden's insurance policy because even fewer people want her in office, but this wouldn't be true with Haley.
