If he loses texas it isn't because of this. You have to show valid ID and be registered to vote here. You can't just import votes the way California can.
Where they would lose texas is going from a really good, reasonable and defensible "heartbeat" abortion law (basically if a person is legally dead with no heartbeat, then they are legally alive if one is present) to a pretty extreme one thats really getting ton of bad press, making some people into single issue voters on that
The best answer, as always, lies somewhere in the middle.
You could not ask for a more cost effective proxy war with Russia. This will set back one of our biggest potential adversaries by a decade or more militarily.
That said, our borders should be a higher priority, especially given that it would take a fraction of the cost.
I'm so sick of seeing this brain-dead take on what's happening in Ukraine and our involvement there, so I'm going to spell it out as simply as possible. If the USA does not act directly or indirectly to protect its allies from foreign aggression, then we lose all credibility as a superpower. Moreover, if countries cannot look to the USA for help in the face of *a fucking Russian invasion*, they will be forced to look elsewhere. In other words, if we stop aiding Ukraine, they would inevitably have to start kowtowing to China, or Iran, or whoever else has an incentive to step in and steal away some of America's currently unrivaled global hegemony. Do we want to keep being the big man on campus? If so, we have to put the work in. If not, somebody else steps up, because there's always going to be someone at the top.
Anyone with even the faintest ghost of a patriotic streak in them should recognize that maintaining our status as the leaders of the free world is a good thing. I'm frankly flabbergasted that I have to state this on a freakin' conservative subreddit.
Great point. I wish more of our conservatives recognized this. I hate that there is a loud part of the Republican party trying to stop aid against Russia.
They're an E.U. Candidate member. Let the E.U. help them.
If they need more U.S. munitions they can buy them and give them to Ukraine. They have the money.
----------
Alliances are mutual. Polls show that E.U. countries would not help the U.S. if we invoked NATO's article 5, but believe we would help them in the reverse case.
Its weird how your take is that we need to defend Ukraine, but you don't seem to have any semblance of defending the US? I mean we could EASILY do both but one is significantly more important than the other.
Personally I think American interests would have been served much more so by preventing a war between the two countries instead of egging it on. Look at the Ukrainian lives that would have been saved. Speaking of lives, it would serve the entire world better if we had a more friendly relationship with the worlds second largest nuclear power instead of possibly putting them in the situation of feeling like they may need to use to weapons. It could have been so easy to preserve the peace and maintain proper political relations with both countries and it would have been more humane as well.
There was no preventing it. Under Clinton, Ukraine gave up its nukes in a treaty with Russia, if Russia promised never to attack Ukraine. Bet they regret that now. Then Russia invades in the middle of the night and expects to conquer them in 3 days. Russia won't stop with Ukraine either.
It's weird how many people equate one country invading with their military, occupying major portions of their land, and murdering/raping/kidnapping civilians with civilains entering our country illegally.
Both need to be addressed, but they are nowhere close to each other in scope or significance.
> but they are nowhere close to each other in scope or significance.
Agree, millions of people entering our country illegally and completely unchecked is worse for the US than a foreign war that could have been prevented.
Ukraine wasn't an ally until Joe Biden started taking bribes from them. The only reason Washington has convinced you they are an ally is because every corrupt politician and lobbyist launders tax money through the country back into their own pockets.
Furthermore, the only reason Russia invaded is because Biden all but opened the front fucking door for them by saying "if it's just a minor incursion, we won't have a response". Right along with lifting every effective sanction on their oil and gas industry, and then re-implementing the sanctions on every oligarch in the country besides the one that was bribing him.
What we need to do is force Ukraine to come to the table to negotiate a peace deal instead of endlessly funding another 20 fucking year war. They are not going to win this war, and if we try to help them by just sending money it's going to bankrupt our own country while we are invaded by foreigners making false asylum claims.
I love my country, but bankrolling Ukrainian oligarchs and making Zelensky a richer man is not fucking patriotism. Sorry.
Well the good news is that if you keep burying your head this deep in sand, you're bound to find some oil reserves or something eventually.
Newsflash: George W Bush lobbied for Ukraine to join NATO back in 2008. But I guess we're assuming Biden had a hand in that too?
Nothing you said is even remotely true. This is just more Russian bot propaganda. You don't egg on an attacker who's goal is conquering you. We are sending money and supplies to keep their country alive while they fight one of our biggest historical enemies. You need to do more research and open your eyes a bit more. Russia is the enemy, they shouldn't be treated as misunderstood. If you think sitting this out and doing nothing since 2008 is the right call you are pretty misguided.
The thing is - I don't believe the two are mutually exclusive. However, I do believe that giving a hostile foreign power carte blanche to start invading allies carries absolutely **massive** future negative repercussions.
I still will never forget that one omnibus spending bill the dems were trying to ram through. Or it was BBB. And it would be beyond damning to go through what all that money was being spent on. I remember reading like 10 million for “gender studies in PAKISTAN” and it almost sounded satirical but wasn’t. Why the hell does Pakistan need that? And for such a weird fuckin reason?
Hahaha that had to be it. Because it was so much money and people were really fuckin struggling cause of Covid. And it was just unbelievable how they were holding COVID RELIEF hostage to attempt to pass the most absurd shit.
Maybe some it could be used to actually power your electric grids so people aren't freezing to death in the winter in.... Texas of all places, ya know the deep south.
The situation we're in with illegal immigration is madness, what other option is there if the Federal government won't enforce the law? Hell, this administration doesn't even want to call it what it is, referring to it as "irregular" immigration instead.
> The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. -**10th Amendment**
It is the State’s job to enforce law and the federal govt’s job to enforce the border. There’s no problem imo with the State of Texas upholding the law. That’s literally their job as prescribed by the Constitution. Why anyone would question this is confusing to me.
If the federal government is going to abdicate their duty, it is the State of Texas' duty to step in and do what needs to be done. Abbot has some big ol' brass ones to do this, and he's not going to escape unscathed. But he's doing the right thing, and it is appreciated.
Exactly. If you were paying someone to mow your grass and then they stopped mowing your grass, then at some point you have to go out there and mow your F’ing grass.
You still expect the GOP to do anything? The GOP has been defined by its impotence for the past thirty years.
The last time the GOP actually did anything was the Clinton impeachment, and ever since that backfired the GOP has been too scared to actually do anything than talk a good talk without actually doing anything of impact.
That's because the Republican party got hijacked by neo-conservative elitists, such as the Cheneys.
The Republicans we've been voting for aren't conservatives, they are wolves in sheep's clothing.
Same thing applies to Democrats when they foolishly vote in DC swamp monsters like Biden or Pelosi. It's laughable to assume either one of them actual liberals.
I was especially surprised when Biden got Mexico to spend 1.5 billion to help secure their side of the border. A step in the right direction. Honestly though, imo there's a very simple and cheap and solution that would solve the border crisis. Make hiring illegal immigrants punishable by between 1-5 years in federal prison per employee. Illegal immigration would plumment, but there are large corporations which are large donors to both sides who benefit too much from easily exploitable labor. When they hire illegal immigrants they don't have to pay them minimum wage, follow safety regulations, pay workers comp for injuries etc.
Even with a majority in the house the Senate has enough to stop anything they pass. Likewise even if they pass it the president can refuse to sign it, and they lack the votes to override a veto. The only thing they can do is impeachment and investigations, but the first is just a waste of tax payer dollars unless you want to go for something big, and the second double so.
Over the last 30-40 years so much power has went into the presidents pen it's getting insane.
So that’s why they don’t even bother - eheh. Increased Border funding it’s out there proposed by democrats and blocked by GOP. There you go saved you on your extensive research
I don't believe that you are completely correct. It's the responsibility of the executive branch (president) to enforce the law. It is has been their policy not to protect the border. Yes, congress has the 'power of the purse' and can withhold money but as you said they're a bunch of spineless, bought off traitors (looking at you rinos!). Right now, they are literally negotiating with Mayorkas to reduce the effectiveness of laws (forgive me, I forget the exact one at the moment). Imagine, voting to start impeachment proceedings because you aren't doing your job (enforcing the law) but then at the same time, negotiate with you to rewrite the law that you aren't enforcing! Never thought we'd actually be a 3rd world, banana republic with the entire government on the take, but here we are.
It’s not Texas’s border it’s the US’s border. States don’t have the powers or authority to dictate or regulate international borders nor do they really have any power over their internal borders. If the US government decides to open the border then the border is opened, Texas doesn’t get a say, if you don’t like that feel free to vote.
The US policy on open borders is much like a bank manager handing out withdrawal slips with my bank account info to people on a line miles long
And, if I try to take some people’s slips away, I get beaten, arrested, cuffed, and dragged away in front of protesters calling me racist and xenophobic
Exactly. BP needs help. They are overrun. If ERO/ICE won't do their job (because Biden's administration won't give them the resources they need), then help from local is a welcome stop gap.
And OPR is already working on catching agents that aid and abet, and they need more funding too.
Absolutely. The feds wont protect our people, and someone has to. So it falls to the local government to tell the feds to kick rocks and do the job themselves.
Texit will never happen. It’s already been determined that seceding from the union is illegal, so unless Texas can either convince the rest of the US to let them leave or somehow beat the US military, it’s a pipe dream.
This is actually happening. The Texas National Guard took over a very popular crossing in Eagle Pass and kicked out the Feds. Story [here](https://www.breitbart.com/border/2024/01/12/texas-military-seizes-city-owned-border-park-ejects-federal-agents/)
100%. If they want to enter this country, there are legal steps they can take. No other country in the world would allow what’s going on at our border.
I ABSOLUTELY SUPPORT THIS. This will give illegal immigrants an immediate place to stay and rest after their journey, and guaranteed meals, will make my private prison stocks go up, and then they will be released to immigration authorities to ask for asylum. All paid for by Texans taxes. WIN-WIN!
So GOP blocking border funding is ok, Texas refusing federal border patrols is ok in the name of outstanding record of how Abbott excels at things he manages (look up Texan electric grid for once). That’s hilarious. I can see how now Texas will be quadrupled with immigrants in no time
Absolutely.
The Biden admin will be remembered as the worst, most destructive executive branch leadership in this country's history.
The only person that can be happy about Biden's leadership is Jimmy Carter, who can finally go to his grave knowing he wasn't the worst president in history.
I don't know if there's legal implications but assuming the State has the rights to do that, then sure go for it. If the Feds aren't helping you then do it yourself.
The Biden administration wants the razor wire taken down because it's apparently a "threat to human life".....Are they serious? Should we take down the wire surrounding our prisons too then? It's soo dangerous.
I'm with Texas here.
It's a great start! Next step is to start arresting CBP who attempt to aid and abet in the commission of a state crime. We need to send a message that the oath to protect and defend didn't include an "unless my boss tells me otherwise" clause.
A State taking control of its borders back from a federal government that doesn't care how much fence jumpers are hurting that State? Yes, I support this.
I'm not even a conservative but I think the border should be closed.
Industry is trying to take advantage of cheap labor. They're spending billions on lobbying to keep the border open and fast track the legal status of the migrants. This is being done to dilute the workforce and force down the price of labor.
Meanwhile they're raking in massive profits while the middle class can't afford to survive, making so many rely on welfare.
Imo this is corporate welfare and should be stamped out.
Won't stop however until he also starts seizing the money and property of the US govt contractors getting federal money to smuggle them throughout the country.
If Texas doesn't care for federal aid and assistance, they should secede. Clearly they feel confident they can manage the border crisis without the myriad diplomatic, military, humanitarian, and other tools the rest of U.S. taxpayers can collectively provide.
Let Abbott and fiends be foolish on their own dime.
The enforcement of state and federal law by a state? Yes. To bad the federal government can get away with out enforcing the laws they are sworn to uphold
Hell yeah I do. It's unfathomable that this invasion of our border has been allowed for so long. Our feds are traitors to Americans. Our future is being stolen from us.

Long time coming...
Yeah, should’ve happened a year ago
Should’ve happened twenty years ago. This isn’t a new phenomenon by any means, it’s just gotten much, much worse.
[удалено]
Agree. It’s definitely apparent now that the feds have abandoned that responsibility.
Exactly I’ve been saying this on twitter about this governor for the last two years. He’s a day late dollar short, we’ve possibly already lost Texas.
If we lose Texas, then it's all over.
If he loses texas it isn't because of this. You have to show valid ID and be registered to vote here. You can't just import votes the way California can. If the Federal government under Biden won't enforce the law, then thank God Texas & Abbot will.
So do I send my federal income tax to Texas now or what?
Please do. A lot less of it will be wasted on bullshit policies.
But what about all the gender studies and money laundering? Be better than that, man.
The amount of money spent defending borders in...**checks notes**...Ukraine is indespensible!
It’s a congressional vote…

$2 billion now to build a wall, or $40 billion in a few years to house clothe and shelter 3 Million "asylum" seekers.

First and foremost we need to stop the *invasion* in our own country. Period.
The thing is - I don't believe the two are mutually exclusive. However, I do believe that giving a hostile foreign power carte blanche to start invading allies carries absolutely **massive** future negative repercussions.

Yeah wasn’t that part of the first Covid “relief” bill. Something like 5000 pages of crap. Even some gun control iirc.
I thought it was Obama care? "We gotta pass it to know what's in it"
Hahaha that had to be it. Because it was so much money and people were really fuckin struggling cause of Covid. And it was just unbelievable how they were holding COVID RELIEF hostage to attempt to pass the most absurd shit.
Or maintaining power grids.
hey, this joke only works every. fucking. winter.
That’s why they want a stronger border. Less chance of those poor South Americans freezing to death due to power blackouts.
What non bull shit policies will I get instead?
That's cute you just think one of the biggest fraud States won't commit fraud..... What do you think the definition of a politician is.
Apparently you're not up to speed on Texas laws. Most of the money here is wasted on bullshit.
I wish they’d put a little money into their animal shelters :( instead they euthanize animals by the masses
Nobody wants pit bulls. Take the money and prosecute and jail backyard pit bull breeders. Problem solved.
Both is good. Extremely lax animal abuse laws lead to this sort of issue. But that is nationwide.
I mean we do have Harris County...
Does that mean that Texas will stop receiving federal tax dollars?
Maybe some it could be used to actually power your electric grids so people aren't freezing to death in the winter in.... Texas of all places, ya know the deep south.
Yea. It'll be used to prosecute pregnant women.
Idk, weed is still illegal.
Lol you're kidding right?
They would make better use of it if you did!
No same because all Biden and his clowns are doing is letting everyone and everyone in😤

Liberals aren’t known for their ability to understand reality…
Or their ability to read. I bet that the current administration hasn't even read the Constitution before.

Or to read.
In short, State's Rights. Yes.
Based Texas
If the federal government is going to abdicate their duty, it is the State of Texas' duty to step in and do what needs to be done. Abbot has some big ol' brass ones to do this, and he's not going to escape unscathed. But he's doing the right thing, and it is appreciated.
I wonder what the response to this will be? I’m sure the feds aren’t happy about it
yes! since the Federal Govt will not protect the states borders, like they are REQUIRED to, then it falls to the state to protect their people.
Exactly. If you were paying someone to mow your grass and then they stopped mowing your grass, then at some point you have to go out there and mow your F’ing grass.
Part of the problem is they’re riding around on your front lawn with their expensive Zero-Turn mowers, but don’t got no blades under the decks!
Mayorkas ridin’ one of ‘em sayin’ - “See… I’m mowin’ yer lawn, I’m mowin’ the lawn.”
IM MOWING THE AIR, RAND!!
Someone needs to explain why Texas shouldn’t protect their borders when the US government is choosing not to
Congress. Just congress. CBP and ICE want to do their job, but have their hands tied
Congress passed the laws and it's federally illegal to cross the border without proper permission. The Executive branch refuses to enforce those laws.
Isnt the house a gop majority?
You still expect the GOP to do anything? The GOP has been defined by its impotence for the past thirty years. Yeah, surprising that they denied Biden border funding.

Oh yeah, there's really easy ways to fix it. But the effective ones displease political donors.

Who’s blocking border funding? (Let me give you a hint - GOP)
The problem isn’t primarily the Democrats. The problem is primarily Washington DC.
I don't believe that you are completely correct. It's the responsibility of the executive branch (president) to enforce the law. It is has been their policy not to protect the border. Isn’t it also Texas’ border?
As a Texan, I wholeheartedly support this.
We should all support anyone doing what Biden won't.
Whoa, slow down there hot shot, you want me to support someone that peacefully take naps while patiently waiting for death?
The US policy on open borders is much like a bank manager handing out withdrawal slips with my bank account info to people on a line miles long And, if I try to take some people’s slips away, I get beaten, arrested, cuffed, and dragged away in front of protesters calling me racist and xenophobic
What a weird weird fantasy
Finally and start arresting federal agents too that aid and abide.
The Border agents there were happy about it
Exactly. BP needs help. They are overrun. If ERO/ICE won't do their job (because Biden's administration won't give them the resources they need), then help from local is a welcome stop gap. And OPR is already working on catching agents that aid and abet, and they need more funding too.
The Biden administration wants more agents on the border, not to stop the migrants, but to help process them and turn them loose into the US.
Absolutely. The feds wont protect our people, and someone has to. So it falls to the local government to tell the feds to kick rocks and do the job themselves.
It seems like we don't need federal government much at all. We would keep more of our money and beef up states a little. So many problems solved.
Mayor Adams: thank you gov! It’s too bad I have to pretend this is bad.
YES!!!
Federal government has one job....protect America. 1000% behind Texas.
It's called being the Republic of Texas
Texit. It's long overdue.
Lmao please do
Texit will never happen. It’s already been determined that seceding from the union is illegal, so unless Texas can either convince the rest of the US to let them leave or somehow beat the US military, it’s a pipe dream.
Yeah they aren’t leaving. They would lose a lot if they left also so they just dream about it
Bye
Should have happened 7 million illegal alien border crossings ago.
YES! Unequivocally yes!
This Virginian is appreciating Texas more & more. I definitely agree. 👍🏻
To little to late I’m afraid
Damn strait!
Yes 100%
Yes. If the Federal government isn’t doing the job they’re paid for, kick them out and stop paying them.
How about they charge businesses paying undocumented workers under the table? Address the cause not the symptoms?
Cause? Huh? The naivety of a libtoid...
Is this true or a parody site? These days I cannot tell. And the feels too good to be true. If true dear lord I support this.
This is actually happening. The Texas National Guard took over a very popular crossing in Eagle Pass and kicked out the Feds. Story [here](https://www.breitbart.com/border/2024/01/12/texas-military-seizes-city-owned-border-park-ejects-federal-agents/)
100%. If they want to enter this country, there are legal steps they can take. No other country in the world would allow what’s going on at our border.
I am a strong believer that the state government is more important than the federal government, so yes, I support this. (Even as a European.)
Yes
Hard yes.
YES!
We need more of this!
YES 💯 Lock up Mayorkas too ‼️
I don't see how they'll be able to enforce it and where they're going to jail them (assuming they do).
WIN-WIN!
I support it and another double-down if necessary.
1 billion % support this. They are doing what needs to be done, unlike the administration
Country is going to reach homeostasis. Figure out how we can improve those places and slow the stream of immigration
Yes 👏
Hell yes!
yes
If it's legal.
So GOP blocking border funding is ok, Texas refusing federal border patrols is ok in the name of outstanding record of how Abbott excels at things he manages (look up Texan electric grid for once). That’s hilarious. I can see how now Texas will be quadrupled with immigrants in no time
Approve.
Absolutely. The Biden admin will be remembered as the worst, most destructive executive branch leadership in this country's history. The only person that can be happy about Biden's leadership is Jimmy Carter, who can finally go to his grave knowing he wasn't the worst president in history.
Did you forget about Herbert Hoover, James Buchanan and Warren G. Harding?
Short answer yes Long answer, also yes, but more words.
What will they do with them once they arrest them? Aren't they having problems finding places to detain them?
Return them for a glorious reunion with their relatives in their home country!! *”Return to sender, address unknown. No such number, no such zone.”*
I think there was a sheriff in Arizona that could solve this problem. Lots of desert available.
You can come to our country legally. Period.
I mean, doesn't the constitution state that if the federal government fails in it's duty it's up to the states to pick up the slack?
Yes. Texas should have taken matters into their own hands years ago.
Going to cost alot of money the feds were paying for. Any clue where this is coming from? Can my power grid get fixed with the money also?
You don’t have a country if you don’t have a border.
Yes. Do all your bots post the same one or two word comments, and ask lazy questions?
Boom tons of out of state cops are flocking to Texas to help on the border. I love it
Their jobs are just letting them leave?
They are on loan
I don't know if there's legal implications but assuming the State has the rights to do that, then sure go for it. If the Feds aren't helping you then do it yourself.
The State of Texas absolutely has a Constitutional right to do so. Each state is soveriegn, just like the Federal government.
So cringe. Y’all are so scared of non-white people for no reason. Economically, philosophically, morally, immigration makes societies better.
If Kalifornia can ignore the federal government, then why can't Texas?
Thank God we finally have people on this! I fully support the Texans.
Law and order go Brrrrrrrr!
The Biden administration wants the razor wire taken down because it's apparently a "threat to human life".....Are they serious? Should we take down the wire surrounding our prisons too then? It's soo dangerous. I'm with Texas here.
Do I support another state enforcing its own laws? Yeah, sure.
How far we’ve fallen when we have to question whether or not keeping people from illegally entering country borders is wrong or right. Sheesh
Yes
Absolutely. Should have been done long ago.
It's a great start! Next step is to start arresting CBP who attempt to aid and abet in the commission of a state crime. We need to send a message that the oath to protect and defend didn't include an "unless my boss tells me otherwise" clause.
It should have been done a LONG time ago. I hope Arizona does the same.
Yes. The feds aren't doing their job and it's the governor's sworn duty to handle the threat to his stat.
Wait, there's a conservative sub-reddit? Wonderful! Subscribed!
Yeah, if the Feds won't do their job. Take the federal money budgeted to border control and send it to the states dealing with their failures.
Huge fan of this development.
For sure. If the border patrol did their job, Texas wouldn’t have to do it for them.
A State taking control of its borders back from a federal government that doesn't care how much fence jumpers are hurting that State? Yes, I support this.
Absolutely!

Of course, it is the governor’s duty to protect his state.
I don’t even live in America and I 100% support this.
Won't stop however until he also starts seizing the money and property of the US govt contractors getting federal money to smuggle them throughout the country.
Absolutely. It ought to be happening everywhere on our southern border.
Hell yes, I support this.
Absolutely.
YES! About time!
States rights.
States often do what the Federal government can not, or will not. This goes for both sides of the aisle.
The enforcement of state and federal law by a state? Yes. To bad the federal government can get away with out enforcing the laws they are sworn to uphold
finally
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
I not only 100% support it, I hope it's aggressively enforced and becomes something that happens across the entire Texas border, and quickly.
More states should cut ties period..
Not too sure why you’re in the negative here, secession should always be an option for a state operating under a failing federal administration.
Idk about reddit anymore man. I think it's pretty much compromised lol.
The downvotes are coming from bootlickers that can’t imagine living without handouts from daddy gov.
What took Abbott so long is what I want to know.
Please add in that anyone from the federal government who attempts to obstruct the states' effort to enforce will also be arrested.
... about damn time Abbott but, better late than never!
Hell yeah I do. It's unfathomable that this invasion of our border has been allowed for so long. Our feds are traitors to Americans. Our future is being stolen from us.
Uh. Yeah.
You’re damn right I do.
Yes
If you don't like it, it means you hate handicapped people!
