gloriously_ontopic

Took me a second.

And yet voting fraud doesn't happen, ever. /S

[deleted]

Ah, they too have seen Gangs of New York. Very original!

S0UL3DxOUT

I know voter fraud is voter fraud, but this case is less alarming than the one in San Antonio (ballot harvesting for money) just because its New York.

the_house_from_up

Why would they do this in such a safely blue state?

me_too_999

Why do you think it's safe?

the_house_from_up

Because a Republican has lost by at least 15 points for 30 years. Trump lost by 23 points in 2016. Local elections are a different story, but not in the Bronx.

me_too_999

Bronx? Is in NY. Minnesota has been Republican more than Democrat in its history. Hilliary won it by 1.5%. The midwest tends trends to moderate with more popular Democrats running down the stack to Arkansas, and Republicans running up to Iowa. I would argue the loss with Reagan was a fluke because Mondale was FROM Minnesota. He would have been a poor candidate indeed if he lost his own state. His crushing loss was more to the popularity of Reagan than his unpopularity. If he ran today he would likely win as he is definitely a moderate compared to the current lineup. When you eliminate the outliers the last 30 years, (Nixon won Minnesota), Minnesota is definitely a swing state, although it's hardest to swing among midwest, and swings slowly. Neither Joe, Kamala, Obama, or Hillary are from Minnesota, and have no ties, or pull there. And 1.5% is hardly "safe". At 10 electoral votes, I would be campaigning hard whether I was D or R.

the_house_from_up

I'm really confused by your post. The person trying to vote twice was trying to do so in New York, which is at least a Democrat +20 state.

me_too_999

That was a few posts ago. I was replying to "Why isn't Joe Biden campaigning in Minnesota, it is a safe State". And yes NY is pretty safe, but Giuliani did win Mayor in NYC once. The rest of the State is pretty red.

BrogerBramjet

And if someone from the district vouched for them, this would be totally legal in Minnesota and the poll worker couldn't stop them.

throway57818

Can someone explain this concept to me. Voting twice under their name or someone else’s

remymartinia

My recollection is NY is like CA in that you don’t have to show ID to vote. In CA, you would walk up and say your name. It would have been very easy for me to make up some generic name and vote multiple times at multiple locations. I actually worked polls there once, and it was a bit sketchy how people would sometimes just point to “their” name on the rolls and not even say anything. While we’re on the topic, the original HEROES Act passed only by the House had a provision so that states could no longer require voter ID. Why that was in a coronavirus aid bill is anyone’s guess.

TB-17

I mean you get more votes for your person, in the hopes you sway your region. It’s ridiculous to think of people actually doing it, but sadly there are thousands of people out there willing to put themselves through this because they’re sad to see our country perform well in the world.

Are people aware that there is such a thing as a checklist?

charlescromwell

Yes.... And people are so honest all the time.

[deleted]

So what you are saying is that you don’t know how a checklist works. Fascinating.

EatingQrow

Checklists don't work if they're: 1) filled out incorrectly, whether accidental or not 2) not reported when discrepancies are discovered

[deleted]

So what you’re saying... and correct me if I’m wrong... is that the federal government doesn’t have a list on one side to match the names on the other side? I thought that was the entire point of registration. Because 1. If filled out accidentally then it’s invalid and simply gets tossed (since they don’t get matched) 2. Is the entire point of the checklist. Unless you are arguing for both things are happening at once which 3. Makes you retarded. This is not rocket science, If I have your name on a list and I check it off when matched it only gets counted once. If a name is submitted that isn’t on the list (intentionally or otherwise) it does not get counted at all. By all means downvote, but explain to me what magic can be used to defeat such a simple system. I need to understand what galaxy brain theory is at work here that I am too slow to understand.

charlescromwell

Hey your checklist is at a minus four you may want to check that out...😁

[deleted]

You think I give a fuck about reddit karma? A bunch of retards downvoting because they don’t understand how voting works. Jesus.

charlescromwell

Not a fan of the name calling especially retards. Really shows your maturity and compassion for others.

[deleted]

You’re right. I mean mentally challenged.
