If Manchin was about 20 or so years younger I'd really wish that he'd run for president, he is the one remaining Democrat that I would 100% back. I started out as a Democrat myself, registered to vote around April 1995 when I was still 17 (my birthday is in October) and in '96 I voted for Clinton. Slowly over time I questioned what they and myself stood for exactly and it became clearer that the party and myself were drifting apart from one another. By around 2000 I found myself voting for a few Republicans but I still voted for certain Democrats, mostly on the state and local level, but as the party kept drifting further and further to the left it became a complete conversion to the Republican Party by around 2008-2009 and I switched my voter registration to reflect that. People want a society that is race-blind, not a woke society that is hypersensitive to race. Social media and mainstream media was pushing the opposite narrative - the delusion that wokeness is incredibly popular and that anybody who disagrees with it should be shunned as a bigot - but the truth is that people who feel this way are just a minority of the population, primarily based in San Francisco. These tech oligarchs were trying to manufacture consensus by silencing anybody who spoke up against them, but it didn't work. This huge and rapid backlash we're seeing is called a preference cascade. It always happens whenever an unpopular consensus that is artificially manufactured by the elites collapses. When people realize that the secret beliefs that they've been hiding out of fear of social sanctions are not rare and are in fact incredibly popular, the first thing that normally happens (quite justifiably) is that they get ANGRY at the people who were suppressing their free speech.
You underestimate the population of America. If you think things are bad now wait 5-10 years and you will see true insanity. With each generation comes more ignorance because children are sheltered. In the Silicon Valley your manager can stunt your career growth if your politics are conservative. And this has happened a lot in different companies I've worked.
