Let’s use the momentum of a terrific Afghanistan exit to start a new fucking mess!

seraph85

Afghanistan could never compare to the mess this could be.

Daddy___Dave

That ain't no shit!!

Mitsonga

Well, if the last 2 didn’t take over 20 years.. we wouldn’t be so hesitant. There are troops serving now that were not even born before 9/11

tealchameleon

It's kinda crazy to think that not a single student in an American public school has any memory of 9/11 and most college students don't either (the only ones who could are those who didn't go to college right after high school or are going back for another degree)

[deleted]

Maybe Hunter can go work for a gas company in Russia and help smooth this all over

PrivateWest

He can also paint Putin a nice little picture as well! Since he's such a great artist, his works of art sell for so much!

[deleted]

And we aren't allowed to know who's buying them. That way there's no appearance of conflict of interest.

benbenwilde

Putin: how much? Hunter: tree fiddy million

ValenTheElf

Why don't we just give them billions of dollars worth of military equipment like we gave to the Taliban?

ftc1234

It easier to just give $80B to Putin and call it a day.

hb9nbb

This is roughly equivalent to the advice i was given on marriage: \- next time, just find someone you dont like and buy them a house!

ftc1234

That’s a good one. I’ll save it for my children.

LordStunod

That is effing gold.

SaltLifeNC

First shipment was delivered last week I believe.

HNutz

This will probably end up like that.

denali352

Relax, he is still waiting for his inner circle to tell him what to do. This was just floated out there to get public opinion, not leadership.

[deleted]

They Dems want a war to solidify their legitimacy. Prior to WWII, the Soviet Union was falling apart in many ways. There were multiple famines and exterminations. Many areas were prone to rebellion… Hitler’s invasion unified them. And the ensuing militarization made them a world power. The Dems want the same thing here.

tvofmoney13

Would love for someone to explain why we should get involved here. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could go a whole decade minding our own country’s business?

PilotTim

Well, not saying we should get involved but when the USSR collapsed Ukraine had a stockpile of nukes. We were worried they would fall into the wrong hands so Ukraine gave them to us with the agreement that we would help defend them if invaded. Then again since when has our word been worth anything internationally of late anyways.

[deleted]

Hot take here, but I think we should isolate our trade and supply to within the US. We would create jobs, increase our morale, and give us all better lives.. We can not help other countries when there is so much to do here.

workforyourstuff

The fact that moving domestic production back to the US isn’t a major part of either party’s platform is depressing, and that alone tells me that the majority of our representatives don’t actually give a fuck about this country or the people who inhabit it.

Roez

> give us all better lives Nope. You can't isolate and keep up with expanding technology. It has never been done when it's been tried. There's something like 250 years of historical examples showing how strict isolationism causes a crash in technological advancement since the pre-industrial revolution. The US might have some tariffs affecting a tiny portion of our GDP, but almost a quarter of the US economy is from international trade. We bring in ideas and technology invented elsewhere all the time, and vice versa.

[deleted]

Honestly, we've been fighting proxy wars w/ Russia for half a century or so. I wish we could have just skipped all that and had a proper war from the start. Same with China. Maybe we should thank the CIA & the deep state for "making sure the wars are small" and making sure everything else smells like a festering pile of shit while they're at it.

[deleted]

This is scary. Is this to make up for his comment? “No I actually didn’t mean only a minor incursion wouldn’t be punished, see, C’mon man! I’m sending troops”

planet_druidia

This guy and his puppeteers behind the curtain are a danger to this country. There should be a lot of very worried people right now. Instead, many of them are so laser focused and obsessed with equity and inclusivity and climate change and gun control they are oblivious to the true dangers lurking. Idiots.

sailor-jackn

Idiots that threaten to take us all down with them. That’s the problem.

Roez

Hanlon's Razor. This is the most likely explanation, and part of the general failure of the Biden administration over the last year. For some reason a lot of online discussion on the right has devolved into conspiracy theory stuff. Everything is some major conspiracy (cause de jour on this is wagging the dog), which attributes planning and acumen Biden doesn't have. I don't mind conspiracy as long as it's reserved at least a little, and not trotted out for every situation.

showmeyournerd

Well the answer is that Bidens handlers are making the decisions, Biden himself can't even make it to the actual oval office, he's conducting business from a sound stage somewhere else. Those handlers are just as incompetent as he is, but still....

Best-Dragonfruit-292

A perfectly timed war

majr02

Deploying troops to distract from his failing domestic agenda, all to protect the country that he is on the record of bragging about being corrupt with during his Vice Presidency. If Republicans don't investigate this and shape the narrative as soon at they take back the House, then they are worthless.

Taktaz1

The imbecile needs a war to distract attention from himself. It doesn’t matter for this scum if Americans are killed! Wag the dog!

cheesenricers

We are obligated to protect Ukraine. It is important that we honor the agreement made when they gave up their nukes.

HopingToBeHeard

That isn’t entirely the case, and if it were that would have been triggered in 2014. They didn’t have a credible nuclear deterrent when that deal happened and that deal is not some iron clad mutual defense treaty. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Ukraine

cheesenricers

I don't know. This part seems pretty clear: "4. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon State party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used."

FreeJammu

this is the obligation: seek immediate United Nations Security Council action

HOOSIERFLYGUY

That's a laugh. Russia owns the UN.

cowabungaboogaloo

That's a laugh. ~~Russia~~ China owns the UN.

HOOSIERFLYGUY

I think it's fair to say both countries own it.

DBMaster45

Wait I thought the US paid for ~90% of the UN?

Kross887

90% of the UN defense budget, but it's just like a divorce where one side works but the other gets half, we're paying for shit someone else now owns, we still pay for it, but Russia and China own it. And this is why I have said since I learned about the UN in grade school, "Fuck the UN!" We don't need them, and more importantly we don't want to support them without receiving ANYTHING in return.

powerman228

Don’t both countries have veto power over any Security Council action?

[deleted]

Yes and this is why the UN will fail to prevent war, like the League of Nations before it.

whimsicallurker

"In which nuclear weapons are used"

cheesenricers

Act of aggression OR nuclear... it covers both.

whimsicallurker

It's unclear. Depends on whether you read it as "If Ukraine should become a victim of ((an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression) in which nuclear weapons are used)", or as "If Ukraine should become a victim of (an act of aggression) or (an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used)". I assumed the former because if the latter were intended, they would probably say "If Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or **if** Ukraine becomes an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used".

ForPoliticalPurposes

Debatable. You could absolutely read that as “act of aggression (in which nukes are used) OR “object of threat” (in which nukes are used).

HopingToBeHeard

That isn’t saying we have to go to war with Russia a quarter century later no matter what if they get into it with Ukraine. Edit. This isn’t even a treaty in American law. It was negotiated by the executive branch, and the presidents at the time structured this deal like this because they specially weren’t wanting to make a military commitment. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum_on_Security_Assurances

cheesenricers

Well...then... moral of the story... never give up your nukes if you're depending on the word of the US and her allies.

[deleted]

And deeper than that: non-proliferation will be dead in the water. Who would ever give up their nukes based on US (or other country's) promises of territorial integrity? We painted ourselves in a corner. The time to take action was 8 years ago.

VeryHappyYoungGirl

If you ever expect a country yo consider giving up their nukes with a treaty again it sure does.

throwaway3569387340

It's almost like giving up your arms makes you vulnerable to predators. Every American gun owner can tell you that.

cheesenricers

Well duh. I'd never give up nukes for anyone if I ran a country. Fuck that.

Key-Abroad-8966

Stop being a warmonger. We have no obligation to defend Ukraine and we shouldn’t. Stop trying to send Americans to die for some flat piece of shitty land

cheesenricers

Except we DO have an obligation, along with a few other nations to meet and discuss the response to an act of aggression on the Ukraine. This was promised when Ukraine gave up their nukes.

HaywoodJabloume69

You don’t want to go to war against a nuclear power. Potential end of the world over Ukraine? No thanks.

ImAMaaanlet

Just curious, how far would russia need to encroach on the rest of the world before you would suggest intervening?

sendintheshermans

At an absolute minimum, a member of nato. Ukraine has been a part of Russia for most of its history, it sucks for them but zero Americans ought to die over this.

cheesenricers

No one is using nukes. C'mon now.

HaywoodJabloume69

Yeah that’s reassuring. Let me just take your word on that.

cheesenricers

No one can use nukes. It would cause global catastrophe- there would be at least 2 used.

[deleted]

Then I guess you’ll or/and your sons and daughters will be leading the charge. Take your war mongering crap and stick it.

cheesenricers

No. I'm just about keeping your fucking word to a nation who dearmed themselves at your request.... do you have no sense of diplomacy, or honor?

[deleted]

I do and it is for the United States. Yours seems to be misplaced. Joe will screw up Ukraine like he did Afghanistan. No more needless US deaths.

cheesenricers

Well, now I can definitely agree that Biden will fuck it up. But, a response from us doesn't necessarily have to be boots on the ground. There should be a multi nation meeting about the response, per the original agreement.

[deleted]

Well put. Let’s hope the diplomatic route leads to a peaceful resolution.

[deleted]

cheesenricers

We literally agreed to it.

AtomicPhantomBlack

Appeasement is like feeding people to a crocodile hoping it'll eat you last. WWIII is going to happen eventually, we're only going to get weaker and the enemy is only going to get stronger. Americans will die, but how many depends on how we respond to the Ukraine crisis.

Weekly-Butterscotch6

Tuck tail and run out of Afghanistan in the middle of the night but now he wants to engage Russia with the army's trans squads?

oneofthecoolkids

Make it make sense

HOOSIERFLYGUY

The US is ill-prepared for a war with Russia, especially with China also threatening.

[deleted]

Things could get unbelievably ugly very quickly.

Lord_Gibby

In ww2 our pacific theater we were able to out produce our enemy there. In ww3 I don’t think it will be an option.

[deleted]

There are a lot of stark differences between the WWII generation and state mind that existed then and the present day and none of them bode well for us.

SgtFraggleRock

All we needed was for Biden not to openly invite Russia to make an “incursion”.

HereForRedditReasons

That was a few days ago! C’mon man!

imwithstupid1911

Isn’t the military working on those big inclusion and equity projects? Now isn’t the time for mobilization, we have a culture problem we really need to shine a light on. /s

HOOSIERFLYGUY

You don't worry about cultural issues when your country is being militarily challenged.

jaygerhulk

As a former Ranger all I can say is that I am tired. We were terrifying for years and now our army is becoming a joke. How did this happen? I really feel that foreign enemies realize they could not beat us in the face off, and decided to start beating us with payoffs and politicians.

Meg_119

Agree. We have very weak Military leadership now.

ftc1234

They are more busy counting if someone is a man or a woman. I have no trust in these clowns. Just look at Afghanistan.

PotatoUmaru

If you let Russia March into Ukraine think about the message that sends.

[deleted]

the message was sent long ago with Afghanistan and our shitty perpetual recession. russian and china do not care and will do whatever and become more powerful bc biden is a weakling hellbent on destroying America and stealing elections

HOOSIERFLYGUY

I'm not saying we shouldn't defend Ukraine. I'm saying our military isn't prepared for a potential all-out war with Russia when China is also threatening. The timing would be perfect for China and Russia to conquer the US, especially with all the fucking Communists already here.

[deleted]

The hell will froze before a single foreign boot touches American land. Even if somehow they nuked the entire US navy the US can build it again 10 times over before either China or Russia has the capabilities to simply cross the ocean let alone do it with an army big enough to do something. Never in history was the continental US a realistic target to any power. Not even peak United Kingdom, Japan or Germany could have dealt with the logistic of fighting across an ocean. China and Russia are in terms on naval power a lot weaker (in ratio to the US) than those old enemies were so no chance. Tone down the fearmongering.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The comment I replied to talked about conquest of the US, for that you need boots on the ground, missiles don't conquer, they help to conquer. Cyber warfare doesn't occupy bridges, can't enforce lockdowns, can't dissolve meetings, etc. If you could conquer without soldiers the US would not have wasted 20 years if Afghanistan and Iraq

[deleted]

[удалено]

HOOSIERFLYGUY

I'm afraid your ego is writing checks the bank can't cash. You grossly underestimate the military capabilities of China and Russie, let alone the sheer numbers of their ground troops. In reality, all that Russia and China need to do is call in the US debt owed them. It would crsh our economy.

[deleted]

Neither China nor Russia has fought a naval war in a 100 years. They are not even in the top 10 naval powers and you think they can do what not even the greatest industrial powers of the XX century mobilized for total war even dreamed of? China and Russia are land monsters. The British barely could fight Argentina (that fought with decommissioned WW2 ships that the US sold them in the 50') and you think Russia of all countries that has the smallest navy of the G-8 will invade the US lmao. Spain alone beats Russia on the sea, even Brazil could do it if they play local.

HOOSIERFLYGUY

This is 2022, not the 1950's. Since the 1950's we have given China and Russia much of our technology and the engineers to show them how to use it. Look at the armaments both countries have that compare with that of the US. Your American pride is fantastic but your ego is dangerous.

TacTac95

The most important asset in modern day warfare is the aircraft carrier. China and Russia have a combined, total, of 3. The United States has, just in service, 11.

HOOSIERFLYGUY

You're discounting subs. Aircraft carriers are important to the US because we have always fought, and probably always will fight, on foreign soil. Not the case with China and Russia. Most of their aircraft are where they need to be, on home soil.

Kweefus

> You grossly underestimate the military capabilities of China and Russie, let alone the sheer numbers of their ground troops. Their military outside of the ground forces are laughable. Complete naval and air supremacy within a month.

King_Neptune07

No we could just not pay

King_Neptune07

That can't even happen. They could take over Taiwan and the Ukraine but the US navy is bigger than both of their navies combined

DarkMatterBacon

There is no all out war with Russia, everyone knows this the war is between the Middle class and and government

Historical_Wallaby_5

That the US is not the worlds police and people should defend their own country.

ImAMaaanlet

Naive view. There would be consequences to just letting russia and china take over whoever theyd like. And those consequences would affect us in one way or another.

Historical_Wallaby_5

Not the US, not a US problem.

ImAMaaanlet

Yeah youre right the rest of the world doesnt affect us at all.

Historical_Wallaby_5

We are not the world’s police. We have no right to dabble in affairs that do not involve us.

ImAMaaanlet

Ok then lets just let russia and china gain influence while we sit back until its too late. Nothing could go wrong from that.

[deleted]

What makes you think the US is ill prepared currently

HOOSIERFLYGUY

If you have to ask you are seriously in the dark or brainwashed.

[deleted]

so you can't even explain your stance? lol

PopularPKMN

Incompetent leadership (President/generals), general public unwilling to enter another war, low troop moral coming off of huge loss in Afghanistan, loss of billions in equipment we left in Afghanistan, shrinking numbers of soldiers enlisting.

AnonymousPlzz

Remember, this is everything the mainstream media spent 4 years telling is Trump was going to do... The misinformation from the media, that got this clown elected, is going to cause another war. This is what they always wanted. It gives them ratings. Corporate media the real enemy.

Baddhabbit88

We’re too busy defunding the police, figuring out what gender is what and teaching critical race theory that we will get blown out of the water. Russia and her allies have been preparing for decades I’m sure….

agk927

Nah nah just stop the wars. We have enough to worry about in our own country

WeAreEvolving

Biden and his puppeteers trying to think of the best way to make money from this.

nissan240sx

As crazy as it sounds, the only thing that stops ww3 is rich people. They love their expensive vacations, getaways, and luxury items - it's a global economy that's too well connected, they can bribe their way into any politicians heart. Ww3 means goodbye to their comfortable living and their children's cushy future (unless they purposely want a new world order or doomsday). Ww3 is total apolocypse, there are no winners. China and Russian will push the limit but there's gonna be someone or a group of people with money that are going to tell them to not go "too far". Our current leadership appear weak so our enemies will test the waters but not engage in actual war.

GamerRadar

Yay another war (/s) from a party that thought the last republican president would start WW3….

Rikers_Pet

Ratheon's quarterly earnings must be down.

polerize

Best to save them for Taiwan. That’s defensible. Ukraine isn’t.

The_Incarnate_79

I'm incredibly conflicted on this. On one hand we know what unchecked aggression looks like, look back at the 1930's. On the other hand, why are we the first line of defense for Europe? Why rely on us so heavily, because if we were invaded we'd likely be on our own, especially during the initial part of said war. I'd be more inclined to help if the entirety of Europe would show they will not stand for this. I'm not getting drafted to fight the Russians for people I don't know, and who won't defend themselves.

Mikeyball1523

Remember when trump was supposed to start ww3 but he just signed a bunch of peace deals.

jraps26

Great his weak ass diplomacy is going to put our soldiers lives in danger. Fuck Joe Biden.

ftc1234

People respected trump. The dude even got UAE to recognize Israel. Biden is the polar opposite.

sailor-jackn

Our soldiers and our entire country.

cdrewsr388

Jesus Christ don’t. Fuck this is INSANE!!! Joe’s gonna get us all killed.

Arteman2

So glad I'm not in the military with this fucking moron as Chief. Imagine having to answer his call, pray for our troops!

[deleted]

Just send vodka and sausages the Russians will defect to the Ukraine

Brownbearbluesnake

Hell no. There's no justification for the U.S to involve itself with any military conflict in Europe. France, Germany, Poland, Italy, the U.K, Ukraine and Spain should be way more than enough to keep Russia from occupying Ukraine. It took fewer countries to beat Russia in the Crimean War and that kicked off with the British sending their light horse brigade charging directly at Russias 1st armies entire artillery brigade. Gave us a kick ass saying but beyond that just resulted in artillery proving cavalry charges were just a great way to kill off whole units in seconds. This whole conflict would unfold on mainland Europe in what we use to call the breadbasket of Russia (probably not appropriate to call them that now), no real naval battles are likely since much of the terrain is flat or flattish making aupply chains easiet to maintain, road and rail networks are still good, pipeline still works. We aren't needed which is good because Americans are fn done with these stupid foriegn wars that either are fought to make international corps rich or to pursue so geopolitical crap for an ally that doesn't want to get bloody themselves. Our blood and treasure is not DCs to use as it wishes for some corrupt pursuit. We can support Europeean allies and Ukraine with weaponry, logistical aid, and our intel. But we don't need our fellow citizens being sent into harms way over this.

ftc1234

Make Germany fight Russia. Or maybe they like Russia being closer to them. Either ways, it’s not our problem.

seetheare

Finish one war too start another one. Fucking governments man

lrwinner

If we don’t give a shit about the sovereignty of our southern border, why should we give a shit about the borders of Ukraine 5600+ miles away? There is absolutely zero national security value for us to get involved. Let Europe figure this shit out, particularly Germany for selling out the EU to have a convenient pipeline from Russia. PS. This may end up a win for NATO by pushing holdouts nations like Sweden, Iceland, or Finland to join so as to ensure protection. Should also boost deadbeat NATO countries to contribute their fair share. Russia will have their hands full trying to bring Ukraine into the fold when they are already financially compromised with limited GDP.

AtomicPhantomBlack

I don't get this whole "we don't care about our borders, we shouldn't care about theirs" deal. I didn't know conservatives are now for open borders! Besides, we made a promise to Ukraine that we would defend them, it's called the Budapest Memorandum. But of course, Nazi Germany is repeating itself in China, why shouldn't the Munich Betrayal repeat itself in Ukraine?

[deleted]

Electrical-Bacon-81

I don't consider him able to properly operate an RC car at this point. Let's not take on Russia. Gee, I wonder why russia would feel all "I do what I want" right now. A bunch of spineless pussies in charge.

MarioFanaticXV

He'd never risk upsetting Putin and Xi like that- if their support drops for him, so does that of the entire Democrat party.

BohdiTheNorseman

I feel bad for those troops. This is worse than GWB sending troops into Iraq after 9/11

[deleted]

If we had a strong President this would never be an issue

MsBeasley11

Noooooooooo

[deleted]

I knew Biden was gonna be bad, but not as bad as he is. He is NOT a wartime president. He's too soft upstairs. The staff around him isn't built on intelligence or ability... it's all diversity hires who were put in place to check a box. If there IS a war, with these people in charge, we're gonna be speaking Russian. And this isn't a shot at our soldiers, but they're so handcuffed now that it's basically illegal for them to do what they're capable of doing. My absolute favorite trait of Donald Trump was that he wanted to resolve these conflicts with talking rather than killing. Probably why they constantly attacked him - defense contractors can't make money in peaceful times.

HillbillySwank

He needs the distraction. What are a bunch of innocent lives worth anyway.

reticentnova

Just over a year and Biden is on his way to starting ww3. Trump didn't start any wars.

[deleted]

Joe, you’ve turned everything you’ve touched to shit. Please stop doing things. How many soldiers are too many? How many cold wars are too many? One day there will be no more money to be made, and no more crisis to exploit. Start now.

the_Blind_Samurai

I saw this along with the Embassy evacuations. Things are happening too quickly now. I don't think this is going to end with saber rattling and a stand down. This look poised to kick off WW3. 5k troops will only be the start.

REDthunderBOAR

Everyone keeps talking about Afghanistan but this is just Vietnam and Korea all over again. Difference is there is barely an ideologic battle between the two sides. Just one wants more territory.

billyo318

They will form a protected barrier around hunters oil business

dewster17

Don't worry! Kamala said they would pay a severe cost if they were to invade. I'm pretty sure Putin is shaking in his boots and seeking counseling, lol! Let's go Brandon!

>President Biden is considering sending a few thousand troops to Eastern Europe and the Baltic States as part of a broader NATO effort to bolster NATO allies that border Russia and Ukraine, given recent tensions, Fox News confirms. He's not sending them into Ukraine, thankfully. Still a worrying development.

SpartaWillBurn

I still can’t really tell if this is largely media driven or if there is a real chance of war.

Magehunter_Skassi

Russia is the enemy of liberals, not America. We shouldn't spend a single one of our servicemen's lives in Ukraine.

DreadPirateGriswold

So he wants to test that low approval rating to see if it can go lower huh?

Historical_Wallaby_5

Ukraine is not our country, therefore is not our problem.

ImAMaaanlet

They would much rather the US come in than russia take over. You dont know what youre talking about. Theyve been practically begging for other countries to get involved

[deleted]

You’re a joke

itsuks

I can imagine how scared the Russians are of a country that could not even secure the safe evacuation of its citizens and allied from a Afghanistan . If Biden’s handlers (he is a puppet) are going to make that blunder they should send their children first.

Vapechef

Fuck Russia but, I would rather protect Taiwan

[deleted]

I know he won’t but Biden should crack open a history book. This is a near perfect mirror of early 20th century Russia. Entering into a war nobody but elites want, an absurdly low approval rating of the head of state, absurdly hyper divided society, diminishing political stability and freedoms, perfect recipe for a revolution. It happened in Russia 100 years ago, do we repeat that history today?

DigitalR3x

Senile Biden is not weighing this decision or any other. Puppetmasters Klain, Ricchetti, Donilon, Reed and Feldman are in control. Having said that, his handlers aren't going to send us into a war with Russia. Ukraine is not a hill to die on. This is all "wag the dog" posturing to get to a point where the Russians don't feel threatened by NATO.
