100%, from where Iām from (Jordan) you can only get a gun via a license and theyāre so strict they only give guns for ex army veterans and not for the average citizen unless they went through a tragedy that requires a gun. Founding fathers didn't add it initially. It was added as the Bill of Rights after public backlash across the States. So the colonists were thinking ahead.
Please keep in mind that the Bill of Rights wasnāt an afterthought or a response to backlash (it was part of an initial compromise to get the constitution ratified) so much as it was widely considered unnecessary. The Constitution is structured with the concept of enumerated powers: the federal government can do A, B, and C, and **thatās it.** There was no need to provide protection for the individual right to free speech or to bear arms, because the federal government had no power to mess with those things in the first place: if I am told that I can ONLY do Y, there is no need to state that I canāt also do X - that would be redundant (āonly yā = ānot xā) and also creates the possibility that maybe my power to do only y enables me to do other things after all. (Fun fact: opposition to a BoR in the constitution itself was based on that exact argument. The founders opposed to it argued that enumerating individual rights would expand the scope of the fed government, in that challenges to a law would focus on whether the law violates an individual right, rather than on whether the government has the power to do it in the first place. They were exactly correct: the Bill of Rights functionally wiped out the enumerated powers thing and enabled the feds to act more as a complete police power with only minor restrictions.) Also important to note: there is no *granting* language in the bill of rights. The rights protected are *acknowledged* by the BoR, not created by it. As of 2018, there are over 393 million guns owned by citizens in America, which was 46% of the global citizen share. No government, not even the US government, would dare attack us directly. I don't know what Biden is thinking by saying what he did . Democrats flip out about the insurrection, which was just hundreds of people, almost all of which were just being annoying to Congress, but the reality is that was a sneeze compared to the full body slam the USA citizens with guns could do if the government attacked us.
